Asked to chase a daunting 515, the Najmul Shanto-ledBangla Tigers folded for 234 with Player-of-the-MatchAshwin shining with6 for 88 as the hoststook a 1-0 lead.
With the win, India also achieved a rare feat for the first time in 92 years (since its debut in 1932) by having more wins in Tests than losses. Following their big victory in Chennai, India now have 179 wins in the longer format of the game, joint fourth-most along with South Africa, whereas their losses stand at 178. Thus, India have a win-loss ratioof1.005 after the conclusion of 580Test matches.

After the win, captain Rohit said at the post-match presentation, "It was a great result looking at what lies ahead for us. We are playing after a long time, but you are never out of cricket. We came here a week before, we had a good lead-up to the Test match and we got the result that we wanted." He added, "Whatever the condition has to offer, we got to be ready for it. In the last few years, wherever we have played, we have managed to have that in our armoury, whether it is seam bowling options or spin bowling options. You have to give credit to the guys, whenever there is a responsibility, they never shy away from it and they want to put their hand up and get the job done for the team."
Soon after the Chennai Test win, BCCI also announced an unchanged India squad for the second and final Test versus Bangladesh in Kanpur, which gets underway on Sep 27 (Friday).
