Billionaire Warren Buffett, the biggest investor in the world, has pledged another one of his Berkshire Hathaway stocks to five charities.
The announcement was made on Friday as part of a series of annual donations aimed at reducing poverty.
This year’s contribution equals 13 million Class B shares of Berkshire Hathaway, with 9.93 million shares going to the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation.
The balance will be distributed among charitable organizations run by the Buffet family: 993,035 shares bound for the Susan Thompson Buffett Foundation (named after his late wife) and 695,122 shares each for the Howard G. Buffett Foundation, Sherwood Foundation and NoVo Foundation – all managed by Buffet’s kids.
Buffett, who is now 93 years old, has committed himself to giving away more than 99 per cent of his Berkshire Hathaway stake to charity. He has given 5 per cent of his shares each year.
As per Forbes magazine, he gave away over half of his stock but continues to be among the richest people worldwide, with a total net worth of about $134.3 billion.
Buffett is also planning to put the majority of Berkshire shares, valued at $130 billion, into a charitable trust managed by his three children.
Meanwhile, Buffett sold its 6 per cent stake in China's BYD. This comes amid news of BYD's EV struggles in Japan.
