Volkswagen Group’s Board of Management has revealed plans to open up access to affordable zero-emission entry-level vehicles across Europe. The Brand Group Core plans to bring electric cars with affordable prices to Europe with a debut in 2027. With a target price of around 20,000 euros, Volkswagen wants to make electric mobility a mass product, thus meeting its responsibility to society by offering affordable and environmentally friendly means of transportation.
Thomas Schäfer, CEO of the Volkswagen brand and head of the Brand Group Core, emphasized the company's mission: “The future is electric. For electrification, attractive cars are required, and above all, entry-level vehicles. Our brand claim reads: electromobility for all. This is now being implemented in the Brand Group Core. Our cars will be attractive in terms of price while still being first-class in terms of technology, design, quality, and customer experience. This task has now become even more challenging due to rising energy, material, and raw material costs."

The strategic initiatives that Volkswagen should involve in this project include high localisation in Europe, improvement of industrial base of Europe, and minimal long-distance transport of components to cut down the CO2 emissions. "Generations of people associate the strong brands of the Volkswagen Group with their first car – and with affordable mobility. As a group with strong brands, we continue to assume this social responsibility to this day. That's why I'm very pleased that we're launching a future-oriented project," said Oliver Blume, CEO Volkswagen Group.
This obviate is an important step forward in Volkswagen’s mission to spread the use of electric cars across the Old World. The company is already moving forward with its “Electric Urban Car Family,” with plans for EVs within the 25,000 euros bracket by the end of 2025. This range will consist of two C-segment vehicles: a Volkswagen and a CUPRA compact car; two B-segment SUVs from Škoda and Volkswagen; all of which will be produced in Spain.
The project, now confirmed, represents a crucial step in Volkswagen Group's strategy to deliver affordable electric mobility solutions, reinforcing its role in promoting sustainable transportation across Europe.
