US Vice President JD Vance was on Tuesday night (Mar 4) caught on a hot mic, lamenting the lengthy speech by President Donald Trump to Congress, which was expected to last around 90 minutes.
Just hours before Trump's address, Vance was heard saying, "I think the speech is going to be great, but I don't know how you do this for 90 minutes".
House Speaker Mike Johnson responded to Vance's remark by sharing his own experience of enduring a lengthy speech by President Biden, describing it as a "stupid campaign speech".
&ldquo;The hardest thing was doing it during Biden, when his speech was a stupid campaign speech,&rdquo; he said as he pushed down the microphone.
Upon realising the microphone was still on, Johnson discreetly pushed it away and continued to chat with Vance.

<h2>Trump's speech to US Congress</h2>
Trump, on Tuesday (March 4), used his inaugural address to a joint session of the US Congress to tout his administration's achievements since taking office.
In his address, he also mentioned India, stating that the United States has been "ripped off for decades" by "nearly every country on Earth" and "we will not let that happen any longer".
While talking about tariffs, Trump said that the US is set to see some "disturbance", but he touted levies as a tool that would help domestic industries boom.&nbsp;
"Tariffs are not just about protecting American jobs. They're about protecting the soul of our country," Trump said.
"There'll be a little disturbance, but we're okay with that. It won't be much," he said, adding that the tariffs will take in trillions and trillions of dollars and create jobs "like we have never seen before".&nbsp;
He further took a shot at the European Union and countries including Canada, Brazil, India, Mexico and South Korea, slamming "unfair" practices and said that "this is happening by friend and foe. This system is not fair to the United States, and never was".&nbsp;
Trump highlighted India's 100 per cent tariff on imported American automobiles, which is a contentious issue between the two nations.
He added that reciprocal tariffs tailored to US trading partners would "kick in" on April 2 to remedy the situation.&nbsp;

Just one in three Americans approve of President Donald Trump's handling of the cost of living in the U.S., a sign of unease as he enacts steep tariffs on imports that are stoking inflation worries, a Reuters/Ipsos survey has found.
"The main takeaway from this polling is that the American people continue to actually be focused primarily on cost of living issues, and that is potentially Donald Trump's biggest Achilles heel at the moment," said Chris Jackson, Head of Public Polling at Ipsos, in an interview with Reuters on Tuesday (March 4).&nbsp;

IPSOS latest poll on Trump

The White House said the theme of the speech at 9:00 pm (0200 GMT Wednesday) would be "the renewal of the American dream," in social media posts linking to a story on Fox News, the administration's preferred outlet.&nbsp;
Fox said Trump would cover four areas: his second term's achievements so far at home and abroad, the economy, a push for Congress to pass border funding and Trump's plans for "peace around the globe."&nbsp;
"President Trump is the greatest orator we've ever had in the Oval Office. Every time he's done one of these addresses, Americans have been overwhelmingly blown away," his Deputy Chief of Staff Stephen Miller told reporters on Monday.&nbsp;
"It's an opportunity for President Trump, as only he can, to lay out the last month of record-setting, record-breaking unprecedented achievements and accomplishments that have made this the most successful opening to any presidency."&nbsp;

Trump's latest action on tariffs has sparked trade wars that could slam economic growth and lift prices for Americans.&nbsp;
Trump has imposed new 25% tariffs on imports from Mexico and Canada that took effect on Tuesday (March 4), along with a doubling of duties on Chinese goods to 20%.&nbsp;
The tariff actions, which look set to upend nearly $2.2 trillion in annual U.S. trade with its top three trading partners, went live at 12:01 a.m. (0501 GMT) in the absence of any last-minute deal.&nbsp;
Director of US think tank Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS) economics program, Philip Luck, said he expects Trump's tariffs "to be massively impactful to the economies that border Mexico and Canada".
"This will massively disrupt supply chains. A lot of people will be laid off. This will increase prices, and this will be detrimental to the US economy," said Luck.&nbsp;
"Estimates suggest that the 25% tariffs on Canada and Mexico will increase prices for Americans by about $1,200 per household," he added.&nbsp;

"Alexis, moments ago, I formally renamed that refuge in loving memory of your beautiful daughter, Jocelyn," he said before asking Vice President JD Vance to hand him the signed order, which he then showed to the House.

<h2>Who was Jocelyn Nungaray?</h2>
Jocelyn Nungaray, 12, was sexually assaulted and murdered on June 24, 2024 in Texas. Her body was found in a creek in North Houston, and it was determined that she was raped and killed by strangulation.
Two suspects, identified as 22-year-old Johan Jos&eacute; Mart&iacute;nez-Rangel and 26-year-old Franklin Jos&eacute; Pe&ntilde;a Ramos, were arrested on suspicions of Jocelyn's murder. Both were charged with capital murder, trial is ongoing. The prosecution is seeking the death penalty for the defendants, who are said to be illegal migrants.
