Passengers overpowered a 17-year-old boy, on Thursday (Mar 6), who attempted to board a plane near the Australian city of Melbourne while armed with a shotgun and ammunition, according to police.
"No doubt this would have been a very terrifying incident for the passengers of that plane," police superintendent Michael Reid told reporters following the incident involving a Jetstar flight at Avalon Airport.
The 17-year-old was arrested after breaching the security fence at Avalon Airport.
Police said that they responded to the reports of a man attempting to get into a commercial Jetstar plane at around 2:20 pm on Thursday at the airport, which is also known as the state's biggest.
The young man was clad in a high-visibility clothing, similar to the one that airport ground crew wears.
He was tackled to the ground by passengers on flight JQ610 bound for Sydney and held down until police arrived, according to ABC news.
Officials took him into custody for questioning and indicated that he is expected to face charges under both federal and state laws.&nbsp;

Superintendent Michael Reid revealed that the teenager entered the Avalon Airport via a hole in a security fence on Thursday.
He said that the man progressed towards the Sydney-bound plane, walked up the stairs but was immediately overpowered by the passengers as soon as he entered the flight.
Reid confirmed that the teen was carrying a loaded shotgun.
<h2>Incident not being treated as terrorism</h2>
He then said that the police were in touch with the Counter Terrorism Command a nd that it was not yet being treated as terrorism.
"It's too early to establish that," he said.
Reid said that it was "very concerning that a person can approach an aircraft and make his way, potentially close to being inside an aircraft, with a firearm".

The American Civil Liberties Union, which has backed several legal challenges to moves by the Trump administration, welcomed the&nbsp;Supreme&nbsp;Court&nbsp;decision.
"President Trump's attempt to halt foreign aid funding was a reckless, cruel, and unprecedented abuse of executive power," ACLU executive director Anthony Romero said in a statement.
"The lower&nbsp;court&nbsp;rightly held that President Trump exceeded his authority when he unilaterally declared he was freezing funding for programs Congress had already authorized, stiffing federal contractors who had already done work," Romero said.
District Judge Amir Ali, an appointee of former president Joe Biden, issued a temporary restraining order last month prohibiting the administration from "suspending, pausing, or otherwise preventing" foreign assistance funds.

A Chinese PhD student was found guilty Wednesday in a London court of drugging and raping 10 women in England and China, as police warned there could be more than 50 other victims.

Using hidden or handheld cameras to record the attacks, Zou filmed nine of the attacks as &ldquo;souvenirs&rdquo; and often kept a trophy box of women's belongings.
Zou, a mechanical engineering student who was doing his PhD at University College London, claimed that the sexual interactions were consensual. He will be sentenced on June 19.
Jurors, who had to watch footage of the attacks during the trial, were given regular breaks.
Judge Rosina Cottage described the defendant as a &ldquo;dangerous and predatory sexual offender&rdquo; and that his sentence will be &ldquo;very long.&rdquo; Zou, who showed no emotion as the verdicts were read out in court, was also convicted of three counts of voyeurism, 10 of possession of an extreme pornographic image, one of false imprisonment and three of possession of a controlled drug with intent to commit a sexual offense, namely butanediol.

&ldquo;He has done all that he can in these offenses to incapacitate his victims to the point where they could not resist his attack, and in many instances may not even remember what has occurred to them,&rdquo; said Metropolitan Police Commander Kevin Southworth.
He thanked the two women who testified against the &ldquo;particularly cowardly and deceitful&rdquo; Zou and said there is evidence that he "may have potentially attacked as many as 50 other women in the same awful nature.&rdquo; The Met is appealing to anyone who thinks they may have been targeted by Zou to contact the force.

With the Ukraine war going on, along with the Middle East crisis linked to the Israel-Hamas crisis, the world seems to be staring at a bleak future. Most of the experts think that this is true, while only a handful believe a better world will emerge in the next 10 years.

The survey saw 62 per cent of respondents saying that the world a decade from now will be "worse off than it is today". Only 38 per cent think that things will improve, the team at the Atlantic Council said.

The war will have space play a key role, with the group reaching the conclusion based on the establishment of the Space Force by Donald Trump in 2019.
The Space Force is working on "combat-ready capabilities in, from, and to space" to let the US and its allies "deter and, if necessary, defeat any potential threat to US space capabilities."

The strategists also predicted that the war would not bode well for Ukrainians. It would also lead to a decline in America's economic and diplomatic dominance. A nuclear war remains the biggest threat.

Climate change was cited as the second biggest threat with three in 10 of them saying the world will suffer because of it. A financial crisis is also expected to hit the world, but only 5.1 per cent of them think the world will be crippled by it in 2035. A new pandemic might also be looming, however, only 1.7 per cent think it would become a major crisis for the world.

Climate change emerged as a major problem facing the world among the survey respondents. Human-driver global warming is slowly heating up the world and most experts agree that it would become a major issue in the coming years if appropriate steps aren't taken.

He further told the outlet that he saw a bald eagle making "several attempts" to attack the goose.&nbsp;
"When we thought that it was really over for the goose, strangely, the bald eagle just gave up and left," said Sequeira.&nbsp;
"The goose was spared that day," he added.&nbsp;

Sequeira, who is from Oakville, Ontario, said the iconic eagle-goose battle moment was captured on February 23.&nbsp;
Sequeira said he found the encounter "very symbolic".
"I only posted [the pictures to social media] in terms of what happened, not putting a political spin on it. However, there were lots of people who looked at it in the political context," he said, noting that he doesn't like getting into politics.&nbsp;

The extradition came after President Donald Trump announced on Tuesday that the United States had apprehended a &ldquo;top terrorist&rdquo; involved in the Kabul airport&rsquo;s Abbey Gate bombing in Afghanistan in 2021 that killed 13 American soldiers and at least 170 Afghan civilians.
Mohammad Sharifullah, a member of the terror group Islamic State in Afghanistan, ISIS-K, was allegedly involved in the planning of the terrorist attack. He has been charged with &ldquo;providing and conspiring to provide material support and resources to a designated foreign terrorist organization, resulting in death,&rdquo; according to the Department of Justice (DOJ)
During his joint address to Congress on Tuesday evening, Trump revealed that Sharifullah has been apprehended.
&ldquo;Tonight, I am pleased to announce that we have just apprehended the top terrorist responsible for that atrocity, and he is right now on his way here to face the swift sword of American justice,&rdquo; Trump said.

&ldquo;This evil ISIS-K terrorist orchestrated the brutal murder of 13 heroic Marines,&rdquo; Attorney General Pamela Bondi said.
According to a CNN report, Trump thanked Pakistan for &ldquo;helping arrest this monster,&rdquo; as it acted on CIA intelligence that led to the arrest.
Trump added that the development was a &ldquo;momentous day&rdquo; for the families of victims. He said that he had spoken &ldquo;to many of the parents and loved ones,&rdquo; of those who lost their lives in the attack.
<h2>Who is Mohammad Sharifullah?</h2>
Sharifullah admitted to helping plan for the Abbey Gate attack. He also scouted a route near the airport for the attackers.
He joined ISIS-K in 2016 and was arrested in 2019. However, he managed to escape the prison during a jailbreak by the Afghan Taliban when they took over Afghanistan in 2021.
According to the DOJ, following his release, an ISIS-K member contacted him to seek help in planning the attack in Kabul.

During his interview with the FBI, Sharifullah also allegedly confessed that he instructed how to use AK-style rifles and other weapons to the attackers who were behind an attack on Crocus City Hall near Moscow, Russia. At least 130 people lost their lives while several others were injured in the attack.
If Sharifullah is convicted of these charges, he will likely face a maximum sentence of life in prison.

As the Russia-Ukraine war continues, a drone footage emerges showing Kyiv&rsquo;s soldiers resorting to using a unique strategy when they run out of weapons amid the fight against Vladimir Putin&rsquo;s military.
After running out of grenades on the frontlines, Ukrainian troops seem to pick up a beehive and throw it on Russian soldiers, who were hiding in a cellar.
While Ukrainian forces have maintained a reputation for improvisation and ingenuity, this is thought to be the first time that insects were used by them during the fight.
The footage, which was posted on a Telegram channel, shows two Ukrainian soldiers in what appears to be a farm in the countryside in the town of Pokrivsk, in the east of the country.

The drone video shows them checking several beehives, then picking one and running over to the cellar hole. The men throw a couple of beehives into the cellar. However, the Russian soldiers were not seen coming out of there.

According to reports from last month, the Ukrainians are now using drones as improvised explosives. This is similar to the role played by roadside bombs in conflicts like Iraq and Afghanistan.
Video footage posted on social media showed drones being loaded with explosive materials at an obscured position along a road. After that, they were seen flying past Russian military vehicles and detonating their payload.
In 2022 during a senate hearing, then US commerce secretary Gina Raimondo said, &ldquo;We have reports from Ukrainians that when they find Russian military equipment on the ground, it&rsquo;s filled with semiconductors that they took out of dishwashers and refrigerators.&rdquo;
Ukrainian officials said that they discovered parts of household appliances, which they found in captured Russian tanks. They were used as substitutes for components that Russia could not import anymore.

After running out of grenades on the frontlines, Ukrainian troops seem to pick up a beehive and throw it on Russian soldiers, who were hiding in a cellar. While Ukrainian forces have maintained a reputation for improvisation and ingenuity, this is thought to be the first time that insects were used by them during the fight. The footage, which was posted on a Telegram channel, shows two Ukrainian soldiers in what appears to be a farm in the countryside in the town of Pokrivsk, in the east of the country. The men throw a couple of beehives into the cellar. "We don't want to be Americans, or Danes either. We are Greenlanders. The Americans and their leader must understand that," Egede wrote in a Facebook post.
"We are not for sale and can't just be taken. Our future is decided by us in Greenland," he said, six days before the island's legislative elections where the longstanding question of independence tops the agenda.
Trump offered only passing lines on world affairs in his speech, focusing on his domestic goals like rounding up undocumented immigrants and slashing government spending.
But he repeated his aspirations to take Greenland and claimed an initial victory on retaking control of the Panama Canal.
Trump said he had a message for the "incredible people" of Greenland. "We strongly support your right to determine your own future, and if you choose, we welcome you into the United States of America," he added.
