TV reporter injured by bullet fragment while covering Senate campaign event

A TV reporter was injured while covering a campaign event for United States Senate candidate Lucas Kunce on Tuesday (Oct 22). The incident took place at a shooting range at a private residence in Holt, Missouri, located about 40 miles northeast of Kansas City.

Democrat Lucas Kunce was alongside former Representative Adam Kinzinger, a Republican from the US state of Illinois, during the event. This unexpected event unfolded when KSHB 41 reporter Ryan Gamboa was covering Kunce’s activities ahead of the upcoming election.

Theincident comes just two weeks before Election Day (November 5) in the US, where Kunce is set to face off against incumbent Republican Senator Josh Hawley. Throughout his campaign, Kunce has consistently emphasised his military background and has often featured gun usage in his advertisements.

Details of the injury

Gamboa, who was covering the event, suffered an injury to his arm. However, it remains unclear if the injury was caused by a bullet ricochet or another type of metal fragment.

At the time of the incident, Kunce was shooting an AR-15 and was the only person firing.

Immediate response to injury

Following the injury, Gamboa began to bleed. Kunce, a former Marine with 13 years of service, quickly responded by using his belt to help control the bleeding. He applied gauze to the wound, which was later secured with medical tape.

Subsequently, Gamboa was taken to a nearby hospital for a precautionary examination and reported that his injuries were minor, according to KSHB 41.
