Trump urges his supporters to bail out Democrats after Harris campaign’s ‘$1 billion disaster’

President-elect Donald Trump urged his supporters on Saturday (Nov. 9) to lend financial support to the Democrats as they face a tough financial situation following the recent general election.

In a post on X, Trump mentioned that despite record fundraising efforts during the 2020 Presidential Election, the Democrats are now low on funds. “I am very surprised that the Democrats, who fought a hard and valiant fight in the 2020 Presidential Election, raising a record amount of money, didn’t have lots of $’s left over. Now they are being squeezed by vendors and others. Whatever we can do to help them during this difficult period, I would strongly recommend we, as a Party and for the sake of desperately needed UNITY, do. We have a lot of money left over in that our biggest asset in the campaign was ‘Earned Media,’ and that doesn’t cost very much. MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN!" he said, referencing reports that the Harris campaign is currently $20 million in debt.

Kamala Harris, 60, was the Democratic candidate in the November 5 elections but was defeated by Trump. She had set new fundraising records, but her campaign now finds itself under financial strain. Data from the Federal Election Commission shows that the Harris campaign and associated Super PACs brought in $2.3 billion and spent $1.9 billion. Comparatively, Trump’s campaign raised over $1.8 billion and spent $1.6 billion.

“Despite raising and spending over USD 1 billion in fundraising, Kamala Harris’ 2014 election bid failed to resonate with the voters who mattered most. The heavy reliance on celebrity endorsements, star-studded concerts, and backing from elite political figures couldn’t bridge the growing gap between the party and middle-class Americans struggling with rising costs for groceries, rent, and healthcare,” said Ajay Jain Bhutoria, a top fundraiser for the Harris Campaign, in an interview with PTI.

'$1 billion disaster'

Several members of the Democratic Party weren't happy with the campaign's execution. Lindy Li, a fundraiser for the Democratic National Committee (DNC), described the outcome as a “$1 billion disaster” on Fox & Friends Weekend. “The truth is, this is just an epic disaster. This is a $1 billion disaster,” Li said.

Li further explained that fundraisers were promised a close election, leading many to raise large sums. “I raised millions of that. I have friends that I have to be accountable to and to explain what happened because I told them it was a margin of error race. I was promised, [Harris campaign chair] Jen O’Malley Dillon promised all of us that Harris would win. She even put videos out that Harris would win. I believed her, my donors believed her. And so they wrote massive checks,” Li stated.
