However, he did not mention any specific details of the deal.

"I would do that,” Trump said, adding, "We have to make a deal because the consequences are impossible. We have to make a deal.”

The Republican presidential candidate made the statement while speaking to reporters on Thursday (Sep 26) in New York City, and said that talks are necessary because of the threat posed by Iran’s pursuit of nuclear weapons.

In 2018, Trump withdrew from a deal agreed to by the Obama administration alongside major world powers that granted Tehran sanctions relief in exchange for limits on its weapons program. Since then, Iran has returned to enriching uranium to the levels required for creating nuclear weapons, a threat that is likely to heighten tensions in the Middle East.

Threats from Iran to assassinate Trump

The statement by Trump also comes a day after the US intelligence agencies briefed the former president about "real and specific" threats from Iran to assassinate him.

Trump's campaign issued a statement, highlighting that the threat of assassination was an effort to destabilise and "sow chaos" in the US.

Later, the Republican presidential candidate in a social media post said that big threats were there on his life by Iran, adding that moves were already made, but did not work out.

Moreover, on Thursday, a grand jury indicted multiple Iranians on charges related to hacking Trump’s 2024 presidential campaign.

Trump said that he was prepared to make a deal with Iran “within one week after the election” if he had won in 2020.

“But Iran would have made a deal with us,” he said. “It would have been a great deal for them. The only thing is they cannot have nuclear weapons.”
