Palestinian man killed by Iranian missile

A chilling footage has revealed the moment a Palestinian man was instantly killed by a piece of shrapnel from one of the hundreds of missiles launched by Iran on Israel on Tuesday (Oct 1).

The horrifying video was posted by the official State of Israel account on X (formerly Twitter), noting that the man was killed in Jericho, West Bank.

"Iran fired 181 ballistic missiles at Israel tonight. Only one person was killed: A Palestinian man in Jericho," the post read.

"We've said it once, and we'll say it again: the Iranian regime is dangerous, destructive, and one of the greatest threats to regional and world stability," it added.

The man has been identified as a labourer namedSameh al-Asl by the Palestinian media. He is believed to be the only man killed in the barrage of ballistic missiles fired by Iran to avenge the loss of top Hamas, Hezbollah and Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) leadership.

More than 180 missiles fired

Israel Defence Forces (IDF) claimed that the blitz by Iran involved the use of more than 180 missiles. The US said the attack was nearly twice in scope as the attack in April.

Israel's entire 10 million population was told to head to the bomb shelters as the projectiles targeted the major cities as well as the Nevatim airbase in the Negev desert and the headquarters of the Mossad spy agency near Tel Aviv.

“There were a small number of hits in the centre of Israel, and other hits in southern Israel. The majority of the incoming missiles were intercepted by Israel and a defensive coalition led by the United States," the IDF said.

Media reports on Wednesday hinted that Israel was mulling targeting Iranian strategic infrastructure, such as gas and oil rigs, or Iran’s nuclear sites. Axios reported that the government of PM Benjamin Netanyahu was also considering targeted assassinations and attacks on Iran’s air defence systems.

Amid reports of imminent Israeli retaliatory strikes on Iran, Iran's President Masoud Pezeshkian struck a cautious note Wednesday and said his nation was not seeking a war.
