Prague university shooting: Police say more than 15 killed, shooter 'eliminated'

Czech police said on Thursday (Dec 21) that a gunman killed more than 15 people and wounded dozens of others at aPragueuniversity.
Later, taking toX, formerly Twitter, the police said that the "gunman was eliminated!!!"
"The building is currently being evacuated and there are several dead and dozens of wounded people on the scene," the statement added.
Theemergency services spokeswoman Jana Postova told public Czech TV that"at the moment I can say there are 11 dead people on the scene including the gunman".

The Czech media reported that the shooting had occurred at the Charles University Faculty of Arts.
The teachers and students of the university were instructed to lock themselves up as police action was underway.
The private Nova TV reported a blast and a gunman on the roof of the building in Prague's historic centre.
Vit Rakusan, who is the interior minister of the country, told the public on Czech TV that "no other gunman has been confirmed" and called on people to follow police instructions.
Local reports mentioned that the police closed the area and asked people living nearby to stay at home.
Czech President 'shocked'
"I am shocked by the events... I would like to express my deep regret and sincere condolences to the families and relatives of the victims claimed by the shooting," Czech President Petr Pavel said.
Pavel is wrapping up a two-day visit to Paris on Thursday.
Saturday announced as day of state mourning
The Czech government declared Saturday a national day of mourning to honour the victims ofthe mass shooting in Prague, PM Fiala said.
He was speaking at a news conference alongside President Petr Pavel and Interior Minister Vit Rakusan.
Pavel expressed his anger over the "absolutely senseless loss of this many young lives."
Rakusan told the briefing: "There is no indication that the matter had any connection to international terrorism or was tied to any foreign events."
