Nancy Pelosi hails Biden's presidency; says Kamala Harris 'ready to take us to new heights'

Former US Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi expressed gratitude to President Joe Biden for one of the most successful presidencies of modern times, adding that Vice President Kamala Harris is ready to take us to new heights.
As Nancy Pelosi walked on stage at the United Centre in Chicago for the Democratic National Convention (DNC), democrats applauded her.
Pelosi thanked Biden and called his term "one of the most successful presidencies of modern times".
After turning to Kamala Harris, the former speaker of the house said that Harris is “ready to take us to new heights”.
Further recalling the January 6 attack, Pelosi underscored that the Republican nominee Donald Trump tried to overturn the results of the 2020 elections, adding that his supporters attacked the Capitol on the day Biden's victory was certified in Congress.

"Let us not forget who assaulted democracy on Jan. 6: He did," she said. "The parable of Jan. 6 reminds us that our democracy is only as strong as the courage and commitment of those entrusted with its care, and we must choose leaders who believe in free and fair elections, who respect the peaceful transfer of power."
She added, "The choice couldn't be clearer."
Bill Clinton's remarks at DNC
Former US President Bill Clinton also addressed the Democratic National Convention, expressing support for Kamala Harris and Minnesota Governor Tim Walz.
Before proceeding, Clinton thanked President Biden for his courage and service, saying he "had an improbable turn that made him president."
"And then he did something that's really hard for a politician to do. He voluntarily gave up political power," Clinton said, adding that he believes the difficult decision will enhance Biden's presidential legacy.
Americans have a "clear choice" to make in November, Clinton said, adding, "Kamala Harris, for the people."

Referring to Trump, he said, "The other guy, who's proved, even more than the first go-around, that he's about me, myself and I."
Recalling Harris working at McDonald's, Clinton said that thenshe greeted everyone with a bright smile and now, she's doing the same.
"You know when she was young, she worked at McDonald's, and she greeted every person with that 1000-watt smile and said, "How can I help you?" Now she's at the pinnacle of power, and she's still asking," How can I help you?" Clinton said.
"I'll be so happy when she actually enters the White House as president because she will break my record as the president who spent the most time at McDonald's," he added.
