Malaysia: Fire erupts at Resorts World Genting's SkyAvenue complex

A fire broke out at Resorts World Genting in Malaysia's Genting Highlands on Friday (June 14) evening. Massive plumes of smoke were seen rising from a burning structure in the Genting Highlands hill resort, according to eyewitness footage.
Abdul Ghani, deputy head of the Pahang Fire and Rescue Department, informed reporters that the fire had been extinguished and that no one had been injured.
According to a Genting Malaysia official, the four-story SkyAvenue shopping complex experienced a fire at about 4:30 PM.
In its initial statement, the Pahang Fire & Rescue Department stated that it received an alert at 4:55 PM. Firefighters arrived around 5:00 p.m. and got the fire under control by 6:30 PM. The fire began on the second storey and spread to the fourth.
Social media users posted images and videos of the structure with fire and plumes of black smoke destroying at least one side of the building.

Witnesses told the news agency Bernama that as the structure filled with dense, black smoke and flames, panic ensued.
According to a statement released by Resorts World Genting on its website, "Evacuation was carried immediately to ensure members of the public are out of harm's way" following the confirmation that a fire had damaged the SkyAvenue complex.
From her hotel room nearby, she took a picture of the aftermath, which showed the building's burned facade and what looked to be ongoing damping down efforts.
