Israeli strike kills Hezbollah spokesman in central Beirut: Report

Hezbollah spokesman Mohammed Afif has been reportedly killed in an Israeli strike in central Beirut, confirmed a Lebanese security source to AFP.
The spokesman reportedly died in an air strike which hit the Lebanese branch of the Syrian Baath party.
"The strike on Ras al-Nabaa killed Hezbollah media relations official Mohammed Afif," said the security source, whose identity was not revealed.
Secretary-general of the Lebanese branch of the Baath party Ali Hijazi "confirmed the death of Hezbollah media official" Afif, reported the official National News Agency (NNA)
Lebanon's health ministry stated that one person was killed in the strike and three others were injured. It further stated that the toll was provisional and work was going on to remove the rubble from the site of the incident.

According to Reuters, the Ras al-Nabaa neighborhood—where many of those displaced from southern suburbs in Beirut live—was hit by the strikes.
Who is Mohammed Afif?
Mohammed Afif was Hezbollah's former secretary general Hassan Nasrallah's long-time media adviser.
Nasrallah was killed in an Israeli air strike in Beirut on September 27.
Afif used to manage the Al-Manar television station of Hezbollah for several years before he took over the media relations office of the Iran-backed group and shared information with local and foreign journalists.
He had also hosted various press conferences for journalists in the capital.
On November 11, he had said that Israeli troops had not occupied any territory in Lebanon and that Hezbollah had supplies and weapons to support a "long war".
In one event, Afif said that a drone had been launched by Hezbollah towards Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's residence.

The NNA stated that the strike by "enemy aircraft" caused "great destruction" and further reported that some people were "trapped under the rubble" in Ras al-Nabaa, which is an area close to the French embassy and a university.
It said that "one of the residents of a neighbouring building had received a warning call urging evacuation but it was not taken seriously".
Several press conferences were held by Afif in the southern suburbs of Beirut since the assassination of Nasrallah in late September.
