Israel airstrikes near Aleppo 'kill 42 Syrian soldiers' as fighting intensifies

The Syrian Army said early Friday (Mar 29) that Israel as well as some insurgent groups launched airstrikes near the northern city of Aleppo, killing and wounding several people and damaging military structure. The army didn’t reveal the exact number of casualties but a war monitor claimed that 42Syrian soldiers were killed.
"The aggression resulted in the martyrdom and injury of a number of civilians and military personnel and caused material losses to public and private property," the Syrian Army statement said.
According to Syrian state media, which cited local military sources, the Syrian insurgent groups targeted civilians in Aleppo and its suburbs.
Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, a Britain-based war monitor, said in a statement that Israeli strikes hit missile depots belonging to Lebanon’s militant Hezbollah group in Aleppo’s southern suburb of Jibreen near the Aleppo International Airport. The group claimed that 36 soldiers were killed or wounded in the strikes.

Israel has so far not issued any statement regarding the Aleppo attack.
This comes a day after similar airstrikes targeted the Syrian capital Damascus and wounded at least two people.
Such airstrikes in Syria have become commonplace over the last three to four months in the wake of the ongoing war in Gaza.
The Iran-backed militant group Hezbollah has maintained significant presence in Syria since it joined the country’s conflict fighting alongside government forces.
Aleppo, once the country’s commercial centre, faces frequent attacks nowadays, often leading to the closure of its international airport.
However, Friday’s attacks didn’t affect the airport.
