A former Obama campaign worker Peggy Moore and her wife Hope Wood were killed in a devastating car accident in Southern California on Friday (May 10).

The incident occurred on Highway 76 near Fallbrook, where the Jeep pickup truck they were travelling in collided with a Chrysler sedan. The crash claimed the lives of both.

The driver of the Jeep and the Chrysler were also killed in the crash, while a third passenger in the Jeep survived. The collision involved a silver Toyota Camry in a minor sideswipe, reports said citing the California Highway Patrol.

Peggy Moore, recognised as a significant figure in political circles, was also the campaign manager for former Oakland Mayor Libby Schaff and had a notable role in Diana Becton's successful campaign for district attorney of Contra Costa County.

She also served as the political director for Hillary Clinton's presidential primary campaign in California.

'Incredible political talent'

The news of Peggy's passing deeply saddened Rusty Hicks, the chair of the California Democratic Party, who praised her as an "incredible political talent" devoted to "justice every single day."
