Another Indian dies fighting for Russia in Ukraine, family reveals he was conned into service

An Indian soldier, Ravi Moun, has died while fighting with Russian forces in Ukraine, according to his family. This marks the fifth confirmed death of an Indian citizen in the conflict.
Deceit and death
The Indian man's family revealed that the 22-year-old had travelled to Russia in January after being promised a job in transport by a private recruitment agent. However, there, he was given weapons training and forced to join the fighting on the frontier with Ukraine in March, his brother Ajay told AFP by phone.
"After losing contact with him, I approached the Indian embassy in Moscow, and they informed us that my brother has died," said Ajay.

He also revealed that Ravi had returned from the war frontier once but was again taken to the fight.

The Indian embassy in Moscow, while informing the family of Moun's death, requested DNA samples to identify his body. The family has appealed to Prime Minister Narendra Modi to help bring Moun's body back to India.
Indians in Russian army
Ravi Moun is just one of hundreds of Indiansbelieved to be among the foreign soldiers hired by Moscow to bolster its forces.
Prime Minister Modi recently met Russian President Vladimir Putin in Moscow. There he, as per AFP, was "given assurance" regarding the repatriation of Indian citizens fighting in the conflict, according to India's foreign ministry.

India's foreign ministry said last week that the government is working with Russian authorities to bring back around 50 Indians fighting alongside the Russian army.
Four other Indian soldiers have died so far this year, reported local media. As per reports, most of the soldiers were trafficked to Russia under the pretence of a non-combat role.
Indian authorities have arrested several individuals accused of trafficking citizens to fight for the Russian army.
