On Monday (Apr 8), police in Los Angeles County were scrambling to piece together different incidents that resulted in the death of three people from a single family. It started with the killing of a man in a suburban apartment. Then, a baby girl was found dead on the side of a busy motorway and lastly, a woman was found dead after a car crash.

It was revealed only after a preliminary police investigation that the three incidents were linked to one family.

Timeline of family violence

The first sign of the family violence came up at 4:30 am local time on Monday. It was when officers were informed about a six-month-old infant in the roadway near the Sepulveda Boulevard/Howard Hughes Parkway exit on 405 Freeway. The police also found a nine-year-old girl at the scene.

While the infant was pronounced dead by emergency services, the nine-year-old girl was admitted to a hospital with moderate injuries.

According to media reports, a 911 caller spotted a black sedan near where the girls were found.

Then, at around 5 am local time, Redondo Beach police got a call about a car crash into a tree on Pacific Coast Highway near the intersection of Vincent Street. The female driver of the car was found dead.

At this point, no one could say these two incidents were related.

It was only revealed after police reached the home, in the 6200 block of Variel Avenue in Woodland Hills, of the dead female driver.

The police found that the husband of the woman was stabbed to death.

Neighbours informed the police that the couple fought before the woman left with her two kids.

On Monday afternoon, the Los Angeles Police Department confirmed its detectives were "working with the California Highway Patrol on the incident involving the two children and believe it is connected to the ... homicide scene" at the apartment.

So far, police have not revealed the identities of the family members.
