A signboard in Sweden has gone viral on social media as many netizens wondered what the words written on it, “fart kontrol”, meant.

The message sounds funny if it is read in the English language; however, in Spanish the word "fart" means speed, which changes the entire meaning of the signboard.

The language mix-up soon went viral on social media and attracted many jokes as well as generated curiosity regarding the Swedish language. The post was shared by a user of X (formerly Twitter).

The actual meaning of the signboard was the speed limit that drivers needed to follow to keep their speed down.

Since the viral post was shared on X, it has received more than 6 million views and 1,000 comments.

The post had a flurry of funny comments online as many users shared the image of the signboard and joked about the message written on it.

Some of the users even expressed surprise over the word's different meanings and found it humorous how the meaning of the word changed in different languages.

Commenting on the post, an X user, Ivan's Ooze, wrote, "Fart Kontrol is my new band name. I called it no one take please."

"There’s a type of run called a ‘fartlek,’ which roughly translates to speed play, and yes it’s pronounced fart lick," wrote second user Sunny Boy.
