The Bureau of Civil Aviation Security (BCAS) has issued new guidelines. These new rules will allow the passengers to exit from an aircraft through an airport departure gate.
This measure can be taken when there is a delay in operating the flight after boarding. BCAS announced the changes after several passengers reported getting stuck in the flight after boarding.
BCAS Director General Zulfiquar Hasan stated the airlines and airport were informed about the guidelines on March 30. Passengers will now be subject to "less harassment" as these new rules come into implementation. The director general assured that passengers will not have to keep sitting inside an aircraft for long hours after boarding. He added, "Airport operators have to make arrangements for the infrastructure, including for screening, for implementing the guidelines."

Airlines and security agencies concerned will have to deboard the passengers in such cases.

On January 17, BCAS slapped fines of ₹1.80 crores on IndiGo and MIAL over the incident of passengers having food on the airport tarmac after several cases of flight delays were reported.
Many passengers streamed out of the IndiGo aircraft at the Mumbai airport, sat on the tarmac and had food as soon as their diverted Goa-Delhi flight landed after a long delay on January 14.
Here are a few other changes the BCAS has introduced for flight passengers:
- To ensure a better experience for passengers at the airport, smart security lanes will be installed.
- At the Bangalore airport, full-body scanners will be operational starting in April.
- Airports with an annual passenger traffic of more than five million will also have scanners.
- BCAS has ordered seven scheduled airlines to guarantee the timely arrival of luggage at airports after the aircraft has landed.
