
A police officer in the United Kingdomhas been suspended after a video showing a man being kicked and stamped on the head at Manchester Airport went viral. Greater Manchester Police (GMP) confirmed that the officer was removed from all duties after a "thorough review of further information" regarding the incident which took place on Tuesday (July 23).
The video, which laterwent viral, showed theuniformed officer holding a taser over a man lying on the ground in Terminal 2 and striking him twice.The incident sparked an uproar after the clip went viral.
Meanwhile, Mayor of Greater Manchester Andy Burnham, who is set to meet the Home Secretary Yvette Cooper about the incident, called for calm.
The Greater Manchester Police said there were "deep concerns" raised by the public after the video went viral.
The footage triggered a protest outside Rochdale police station on Wednesday night (July 24), where hundreds of demonstrators gathered andchanted"shame on you."

Prior to the incident captured onthe video, a police spokesperson reported that firearms officers were punched to the ground while attempting to make an arrest following a fight at the airport.
The spokesperson noted a “clear risk” that the officers' weapons could be seized. All three officers involved were hospitalised, with one suffering a broken nose.

Following the incident, four men were arrested on suspicion of assault and affray; they have since been released onbail. The exact cause of the incident remains unclear, but Mayor Burnham suggested it was due to an issue on a flight arriving in Manchester.
"When the flight landed, two individuals were waiting for their mum, who indicated there had been an issue," Burnham explained. "She pointed somebody out, leading to an altercation in the arrivals hall."
