India were reduced to 98/5 at one stage in the game before Pant combined with Ravindra Jadeja in the middle to help the visitors bounce back from the poor start. While Pant slammed a fabulous knock of 146 runs, Jadeja scored a magnificent 104 off 194 balls to propel India to a strong total of 416 runs in their first innings.

Pant looked in brilliant touch en route to his amazing knock and went after England bowlers right from the word go. He also broke MS Dhoni's record for the fastest century by an Indian keeper-batter in Tests as he reached the triple-figure mark inside just 89 balls in Edgbaston.

Pant was lauded by many on Twitter for his fantastic knock with former India batter Virender Sehwag also heaping praise on him for his heroics. "Pant is in a league of his own. The most entertaining cricketer in the world, this is a special one," Sehwag had written for Pant in a tweet while sharing a meme.&nbsp;

Pant responded to Sehwag's message for him on Saturday (July 02) and called him one of the greatest. Pant has often been compared with Sehwag for his attacking and aggressive approach in Test cricket which is similar to the former India opener, who was one of the most destructive batters in the longest format during his playing days.

Former India batter Virender Sehwag believes Rohit Sharma should be relieved of India's T20I captaincy to manage his workload in a better manner. Rohit is currently India's captain across all three formats after taking over the baton from Virat Kohli. The 35-year-old star batter is also one of the senior-most members of the side and is a vital cog in the Indian batting line-up.

Sehwag feels the Indian team management and selectors should ensure Rohit's workload is managed in a better way and he is not overburdened with captaincy responsibilities. There have been concerns over his fitness over the last few years as he has missed several series due to injuries.

Earlier this year, he had to miss the tour of South Africa due to an injury before making his comeback in the IPL 2022. He was rested for the recently-concluded T20I series against South Africa at home and is scheduled to lead India in the rescheduled fifth Test against England next month but has tested positive for COVID-19.

Sehwag believes the selectors and the Indian team management should not waste much time and relive Rohit of T20I captaincy if they have a possible replacement in mind. Sehwag believes leaving the T20 captaincy will allow Rohit to manage his workload and take a break when required to rejuvenate himself.

"I too have vented out my frustrations on a couple of players and David Warner was one of them. Because when he had joined newly, he partied more than believing in practice or playing matches. In the first year, he had a fight with a few players so we sent him back for the last two matches. So sometimes it happens that you keep someone out to teach them a lesson," Sehwag said on Cricbuzz.

“He was new so it was important to show him that you alone are not important for the team, others are too. There are other players who can play and win the match for the team too. And that's what happened. We kept him out of the team and won as well," he added.

Warner might not have had the ideal start to the proceedings in the IPL but went on to become one of the greatest batters to have played in the league. He was with Delhi Capitals from 2009 to 2013 before joining Sunrisers Hyderabad in 2014. Warner spent nine seasons with SRH from 2014 to 2021 before being released this year.

The coach and captain trust me a lot. This helps in one's growth and there is no room for any self-doubt. So, the individual only thinks about his abilities and goes out to perform freely. When a youngster&nbsp;comes into a team, he, or she,&nbsp;always wants to make a mark and impress the captain coach. But if they back and&nbsp;trust your abilities, your work is done. You then&nbsp;tend to enjoy the process.&nbsp;

You've been a handy batter at the top or middle order and can also&nbsp;bowl a few vital overs when required. Where do you think Delhi relies on you the most? Talk about your role within the team...

It's not like Delhi depends or relies on me in one particular department. I want to contribute in any way possible and in every department. Be it batting, bowling, or fielding. The team management has trusted me in different situations and in varied roles. That is a big confidence booster in itself. I've bowled in powerplays or slog overs. If early wickets have fallen, I often get promoted or sometimes also play the role of a slogger. Overall, whenever and wherever the team needs me, I am there (smiles).

"I have been with that man since 2005 and I have seen Indian cricket change under him.
