He has to make the most of this IPL platform and score runs. Ruturaj Gaikwad scored 600 odd runs in an IPL season. Shubman Gill also scored big runs. So even Shaw has to be consistent with his IPL scores,” said Sehwag.

IPL 2023: Virender Sehwag not at all impressed by DC's Shaw, says 'he has to...'

Chennai skipper MS Dhoni thrilled the fans in CSK's return to Chepauk first with his bat and then with a win in traditional Chennai style where spinners choked the run flow of LSG.

IPL 2023: 'I don't think he...,' Virender Sehwag reveals Dhoni's mindset on smoking two sixes vs LSG

On Sunday (April 02), India celebrated the 12th anniversary of the senior men's cricket team's historic 2011 ODI World Cup triumph. Back in 2011, MS Dhoni-led Team India won the 50-over World Cup after 28 years and became the first nation to win the tournament on home soil. It was Sachin Tendulkar's final CWC and the team gave their all to win the coveted title for the first time after 1983.

Recently, Star Sports conducted a special show recalling the CWC'11 which featured members of the then Indian team such as Virender Sehwag, S Sreesanth, Harbhajan Singh and Yusuf Pathan. During the show, Sehwag -- who played a key role in India's campaign with a hundred versus Bangladesh and blistering knocks against South Africa, England and Pakistan -- revealed how Sreesanth complained of not being able to breathe during the tournament finale, at the iconic Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai where Men in Blue faced Kumar Sangakkara's Sri Lanka.

“You didn't even bowl half your quota. You were complaining 'I'm not being able to breathe' just after bowling 2 to 3 overs and went out," said Sehwag. To this, Sreesanth responded, "I did get a heatstroke because I went to the gym earlier that morning as I felt I won't get a chance in the playing XI. Harbhajan told me to stay ready but he was doing this since quarterfinals, so I felt he can make the cut straight into the finals. But Jai Mata Di I got a chance."

The former Indian opener then revealed the ultimatum given to Sreesanth. he said, "We got him back on the field after saying if you don't bowl now then please don't play cricket ever in the future."

The ex-speedster then recalled Sachin's words and said, "When I was inside the dressing room, Sachin came during the drinks break. He said ‘Sree chupchap andar aaja aur bowl daal. Mahi bula raha hain’. (Dhoni has asked you to return so come back and bowl without saying anything) and I went."

In the CWC'11 final, India took on Sri Lanka as the Islanders opted to bat first. Sl rode on Mahela Jayawardene's 103 to post 274-6 and India were reduced to 31 for 2 before Gautam Gambhir's 97 and Dhoni's 91 took India to 277 for 4 to win by six wickets. Taking about the guests who featuered in Star's show, Sreesanth ended with 8-0-52-0 whereas Sehwag fell for a golden duck in the summit clash. Harbhajan managed to take a wicket whereas Yusuf Pathan was replaced by Suresh Raina in the knockouts of the mega event.

According to Razzaq, Pakistan used to plot against legendary Indian opener Virender Sehwag, who the former Pakistan all-rounder regarded as the jackpot wicket during Indo-Pak encounters. Irfan Pathan was there too for some time. Harbhajan Singh was there. These were the big names who played big matches and performed for their country," Razzaq told the Times of India.

Virender Sehwag says he 'didn't believe' Virat Kohli will reach such heights in international cricket

The Rohit Sharma-Rahul Dravid-led Indian team is gearing up for the third and final ODI versus Australia, in Chennai, with the series levelled at 1-1. India will be eager to win the ODI series with the 50-over World Cup set to be held in India, which will be Dravid's last assignment as the head coach after taking over from Ravi Shastri in late 2021.

Before Dravid, Shastri coached India from mid-2017 till early November 2021. Prior to Shastri, it was Anil Kumble -- former Indian spinner and captain -- who coached India for a year. Under him, India beat New Zealand, England, Bangladesh, and Australia at home and reached the final of the 2017 Champions Trophy where Men in Blue lost to Pakistan.

When Kumble's initial one-year contract was about to end, there were rumours of a rift between then captain Virat Kohli and him. Thus, the search for a new coach began during Kumble's tenure end and not many know that former Indian opener Virender Sehwag had also applied for the top job.

"I wouldn’t have applied if Virat Kohli and then BCCI secretary Amitabh Choudhary hadn’t approached me. We had a meeting, and he (Choudhary) told me that things weren’t working out between Virat Kohli and Anil Kumble we want you to take the coaching position. He told me that Kumble’s contract will expire after the Champions Trophy in 2017 and then you can travel to West Indies with the team", Sehwag revealed while speaking on News18 India Chaupal.

Wouldn’t have applied if Virat Kohli had not approached me: Sehwag recalls being offered India coach job

Virender Sehwag had a stellar run at the international level. The former Team India opener ended his illustrious career with 8,586, 8,273 and 394 runs in Tests, ODIs and T20Is respectively. He was known for his fearless style of batting. Since his retirement, Indian cricket have had fearless batters such as Rohit Sharma and Harmanpreet Kaur but many a times former cricketers come up with the cliched 'He reminds me of Sehwag' phrase when youngsters play a blazing knock.

However, Sehwag feels there is no player in the Indian team who bats like him but named Rishabh Pant as the one who comes closest to his batting approach. Sehwag also urged Pant to up his game so that he scores daddy hundreds like him.

"I don't think so there is any player in the Indian team who bats like me. The two players who came to my mind who have come close to it are Prithvi Shaw and Rishabh Pant. I think Rishabh Pant is a little bit close to what I used to bat like in Test cricket but he is satisfied with 90-100 but I used to score 200, 250 and 300 and then be content. If he took his game to that level then I think he can entertain the fans even more," Sehwag said during News18 India Chaupal.

"I used to play tennis ball cricket where my mindset was to hit more runs through boundaries. I played with the same template in international cricket and used to calculate how many boundaries I need to score a century. If I am on 90 and to reach 100 if I take 10 balls then the opposition has 10 balls to get me out, which is why I used to go for boundaries and gave them only two balls to stop me reaching the triple figure-mark. The risk percentage rate dropped from 100 to 200," mentioned the former India opener.

It is to be noted that Sehwag slammed two triple tons and as many as four double centuries in Tests along with a best of 219 in ODIs. Pant, on the other hand, has tasted a lot of success in Tests -- with five centuries in 33 matches -- and scored his maiden ODI ton in 2022. He is currently on recovery mode after being involved in a horrific car accident on December 30 last year.

Rohit Sharma-led India's fourth and final Test versus Australia, in the 2022/23 Border-Gavaskar Trophy (BGT), ended in a tame draw in Ahmedabad as the hosts won the series 2-1. In the high-scoring series decider, Australia posted 480 all-out riding on centuries from Usman Khawaja and Cameron Green whereas India replied back strongly with tons from Shubman Gill and Virat Kohli (186). On Day 5, on Monday (March 13), both sides settled for a draw when Australia were 175 for 2 in the final session with no chance of any result.

There were a lot of positives for Team India in the just-concluded BGT. While the biggest positive is that India entered the ICC World Test Championship (WTC), the likes of Shubman Gill and Axar Patel also impressed and were some bright performers along with senior pros R Ashwin, Ravindra Jadeja, captain Rohit. Former Indian batter-turned-commentator Sanjay Manjrekar lavished huge praise on Gill and revealed 'another of his rare strengths' while comparing him with Virender Sehwag.

During a discussion on Star Sports, Manjrekar said, "He showed glimpses of it when he made his debut in Australia. Rahul Dravid was the coach then and was very happy with his basic abilities."

"The things I liked - one thing I will talk about is the footwork. The front foot is now going further forward although the trigger movement is the back foot. This will help him a lot in Test cricket," Manjrekar opined.

MS Dhoni will be seen in action on the 22-yard cricket strip in the forthcoming IPL 2023 edition, which kicks off on March 31.
Virender Sehwag is regarded as one of cricket’s greatest openers across formats given his impressive explosive exploits with the bat. He was known to be a fearless batter at the top of the order and was even named as the best entertainer by many during his time. However, not many are aware that he once pleaded his fellow opening partner to take the strike as he was worried about getting out on the first ball. On the sidelines of the inaugural edition of the International League T20, Sehwag narrated an anecdote from the past wherein he had asked the great Sachin Tendulkar to face the first ball against Wasim Akram during the 2003 World Cup match, and Sachin refused.

While Sachin was already an established name in the Indian dressing room by then, Sehwag was slowly entering in the list of regular-starters in the team. Given his recent modes of dismissals then, Sehwag was seen getting out early on to the left-arm seamers - be it Sri Lanka’s Chaminda Vaas or Australia’s Nathan Bracken. The attacking opener clearly didn’t want the same thing to happen against the mighty Wasim Akram in such a high-octane clash.

The attacking opener then added that he even requested Sachin for the same during the innings break as well, and again he refused.

So, you know I was trying to please Tendulkar to save me from Wasim Akram," Sehwag added.

Ishan Kishan made the headlines by slamming a memorable 210 in India's third and inconsequential ODI versus Bangladesh on December 10. Coming in place for injured Rohit Sharma, Kishan opened the innings with Shikhar Dhawan and looked impressive from the word go. Losing Dhawan early, the swashbuckling left-hander stitched a mammoth 290-run second-wicket stand with Virat Kohli (113) to help India post 409-8 before KL Rahul & Co. won by a massive 227-run margin.

Kishan, thus, became only the fourth Indian to hit a double century in the 50-over format. Overall, he became only the seventh batter to join the elusive double-hundred club. After his splendid knock, Kishan's father recently revealed the advice he gave to him. Speaking to The Indian Express, Pranav Kumar Pandey -- Kishan's father -- said, "Jab century maarta hai mai jyada kuch nahi bolta, puri duniya se shabaashi mil rahi hoti hai (When he scores runs, I don’t say much to him because he receives the congratulatory message from everyone)."

"He called me after the match, and I told him, ‘next match you will again start from zero. Don’t let this double hundred get into your head," Pandey added. The 24-year-old Ishan wasn't part of India's 2022 T20 World Cup squad despite being in the scheme of things for quite long time. Recalling the conversation he had with his dejected son, post the T20 WC squad announcement, Pandey revealed, "He was dejected, he was tense, and I have never seen him like that ever. He is a fun-loving kid, but when he was not picked, he was sad. At home, he would not sleep; he would walk on the terrace at night."

Let your bat do the talking; you are still very young. There is a 50-over World Cup next year; prepare for that and make all the opportunities count," Pandey signed off.

Ishan has added to the selection headache with his superb knock versus the Bangla Tigers. It will be interesting to see if he now pips Dhawan and Shubman Gill, having a good run across formats, to open in the forthcoming white-ball home series versus Sri Lanka and New Zealand starting from early 2023.

'Don't let this 200...' - Ishan Kishan's father reveals advice he gave to his son after his mammoth knock

Rishabh Pant missed the entire ODI series between India and Bangladesh after consultation with the BCCI medical team. While he has returned for the two-match Test series and was drafted into the playing XI after India opted to bat first on Day 1 of the Chattogram Test, Pant slammed a well-made 46-run-knock. Coming out to bat at No. 5 with India struggling at 48 for 3, Pant resurrected the Indian innings with a 64-run fourth-wicket stand with Cheteshwar Pujara (90) before falling for 46 after the lunch break. Though his stay wasn't a lengthy one, he achieved a new record.

With his second six, Pant became the second-fastest Indian to reach 50 sixes in the purest format of the game. Pant (54th inning) is only behind Rohit Sharma (51 innings). Overall, the swashbuckling wicketkeeper-batter stands third in the all-time list of fastest to 50 Test sixes. Pakistan's Shahid Afridi continues to lead the list as he reached the feat in 46 innings. Among Indians, Pant is the eighth batter to 50 maximums in whites. He has joined some big names such as Rohit, Virender Sehwag, MS Dhoni, Sachin Tendulkar, Kapil Dev, Sourav Ganguly and Ravindra Jadeja.

In addition, Pant touched the 4000-run mark in international cricket during his knock on Day 1 of the India-Bangladesh Chattogram Test on Wednesday (December 14).

BAN vs IND: Rishabh Pant becomes second-fastest Indian to hit 50 sixes in Tests on Day 1 of series opener

India opener Ishan Kishan slammed his maiden 200 in the 3rd ODI against Bangladesh in Chattogram on Saturday. Playing only his 10th ODI, Ishan entered an elite list of Indian cricketers who have hit 200 or more in One-Dayers. While he is the youngest and the quickest ever to achieve this feat among all, Ishan is still the fourth Indian batter on the list after Sachin Tendulkar, Virender Sehwag and Rohit Sharma.

His mind-blowing innings of 210 off 131 balls included 24 fours and 10 massive sixes. Hailing the knock, Sehwag and former India coach Ravi Shastri among others tweeted about Ishan's milestone. While Sehwag wrote this is the approach team India need to adapt going ahead in ODIs, Shastri said Ishan has shown what youth can do and that he has grabbed his chance with both hands. Harsha Bhogle and former India seamer Munaf Patel also tweeted, heaping praises on the youngster.

On the other hand, former India skipper Virat Kohli also notched up a ODI hundred after a gap of more than 1200 days. With this, he completed his 44th ODI ton, and surpassed legendary Ricky Ponting on the list of most centuries in international cricket. While Sachin still stands tall with 100 international tons to his name, Virat has completed 72 hundreds across formats.

India, after being asked to bat first in the final ODI scored a mammoth 409 for 8, their highest-ever score on the Bangladesh soil. As India had already lost this 3-match series 0-2, they will aim to win this match to boost dressing room's confidence.

ALSO READ: WATCH | UNBELIEVABLE! Ishan Kishan smashes fastest ODI double hundred His mind-blowing innings of 210 off 131 balls included 24 fours and 10 massive sixes.
Rohit Sharma-led India lost to England by 10 wickets in the second semi-final of the T20 World Cup 2022 edition on Thursday (November 10). Being asked to bat first, at the Adelaide Oval, Adelaide, India managed a par score of 168 for 6 but Jos Butler's 80 not out and Alex Hales' 86* propelled the Three Lions to the tournament final, where they face Pakistan at the MCG, Melbourne on Sunday (November 13).

With another heartbreaking result in an ICC event, the senior men's team's wait for a mega title continues since 2013. Post the defeat, many former cricketers have reacted to the T20 WC campaign and opined on the road ahead. 'BCCI can say thank you if...': Sehwag slams seniors after T20 WC exit, calls for youngsters' inclusion

Former India opener Virender Sehwag has slammed Australia for their poor hospitality after the Indian team complained about being served 'cold food' in lunch following their training session at the Sydney Cricket Ground (SCG) in Sydney on Tuesday (October 25).
Amid huge outcry over India all-rounder Deepti Sharma running out England batter Charlotte Dean at the non-striker's end in the third ODI between the two sides on Saturday, former India cricketer Virender Sehwag has mocked England and their fans. It was a controversial finish as India defeated England by 16 runs in the third ODI to clean sweep the three-match series 3-0.

England required 17 runs to win the game with just one wicket in hand when Sharma ran out Dean at the non-striker's end for backing too far away from the crease. Dean stepped a little too far away which prompted Sharma to stop midway through her bowling stride and dislodge the bails.

Dean was left in tears after being adjudged out by the third umpire and was seen getting consoled by her batting partner Freya Davies in the middle. Sharma and the Indian women's team have been facing criticism from the English cricket fraternity over the dismissal, with many arguing it was against the spirit of the game despite being within the rules.

Amid huge outcry over India all-rounder Deepti Sharma running out England batter Charlotte Dean at the non-striker's end in the third ODI between the two sides on Saturday, former India cricketer Virender Sehwag has mocked England and their fans.

'Poor losers': Virender Sehwag mocks England after outcry over controversial run-out by Deepti Sharma

Team India had a disappointing run in the just-concluded Asia Cup, where they failed to get past the Super Four round. After topping their group, India lost their opening two games in the Super Four and bowed out despite thumping Afghanistan by 101 runs. Ahead of the T20 World Cup 2022 edition, in Australia from October-November, former Indian opener-turned-commentator Virender Sehwag opened up on a glaring issue that Indian players need to address.

In the recent past, there have been a lot of injury concerns for the Men in Blue. The likes of Rohit Sharma, KL Rahul, Jasprit Bumrah, Ravindra Jadeja, Hardik Pandya, Harshal Patel, etc. have been injured, which has added to India's woes. In the Asia Cup, Jadeja was ruled out with a knee injury and is very likely to not be a part of the T20 WC squad. Thus, Sehwag feels Indian players shouldn't lift heavy weights in the gym during the course of a series.

“India's problems have been injuries that didn't happen on the cricket field. No one is addressing that. Hardik Pandya got injured while bowling. Most of the players are getting injured at the gym or outside the match. We didn't see Jadeja getting injured on a cricket field. After the match, we came to know that he has an injury. That means the things that are happening outside or in the gym need to be addressed," said Sehwag on Cricbuzz.

“Skills are important. Once you are in the Indian team and playing a series, gym is not as important as skills. If you have a two-month break, then fitness becomes important,” the former Indian opener opined.

Sehwag further asserted, “I learnt this from Sachin Tendulkar. Whenever he came into the team, I never saw him lifting more than 6-8kg weights. I asked him, 'what's the point of lifting such low weights?' He replied, 'this is my maintenance. I've to play a match, I'm only doing this to keep my rhythm intact, so that I don't lose my power'. You see the players these days, Virat Kohli and others posting videos of lifting 50-60-70 kg weights during a series, which actually increases the chances of injury,” he concluded.

As per reports, the BCCI selectors are set to announce India's T20 WC squad on Monday evening (September 12). It will be interesting to see who all make the cut and who will be the players to miss out due to injury issues. Ahead of the upcoming ICC event, India will host Australia and South Africa in white-ball series and look to avoid injury concerns before boarding the flight for Australia.

'Learnt this from Sachin Tendulkar' - Virender Sehwag on why Team India stars are getting injured regularly

India and Pakistan will lock horns in the forthcoming Asia Cup 2022 edition, in the UAE, on August 28. Over the years, both the Asian giants play each other only during ICC or multi-nation tournaments but the buzz and hype around every Indo-Pak clash remains extremely high.

Before Rohit Sharma's Team India and Babar Azam-led Pakistan lock horns in the Asia Cup, where they can meet each other thrice (including the final), former Indian opener Virender Sehwag recalled the two teams' 2003 ODI World Cup clash, held in Centurion.

Back then, the Sourav Ganguly-led Indian team were asked to chase a challenging 274 -- after Saeed Anwar's 101 -- and rode on Sachin Tendulkar's majestic 98, off 75 balls, and crucial knocks from Md Kaif, Rahul Dravid (44 not out) and Yuvraj Singh's unbeaten 50. However, Tendulkar had to fall back upon Sehwag to fill in as his runner due to Master Blaster's cramps. Recently, Sehwag revealed what happened when he joined Tendulkar-Rahul Dravid in the middle as the former's runner.

“We knew it was an important game. But Tendulkar was so experienced, he had played so many games against Pakistan.. he knew that he need to be prepared for it. If I have to consider his World Cup knocks, it was his best. I also came to run for him during the game because he was having cramps, and Pakistan's Shahid Afridi was abusing him a lot, kept saying something or the other. But he remained focused. He knew it was important for him to stay at the crease. He usually doesn't take a runner, but still he knew that if I come, I will run like he does. There won't be any misunderstanding," Sehwag said on a video posted by Star Sports.

Sehwag went onto add, "No matter what series it is (ICC tournament or bilateral), the match between India and Pakistan is always intense. And we will always see fights or incidents taking place between players of both the countries. And I remember there was a statement from Shoaib Akhtar that he will absolutely destroy the top order. I didn't read the statement, neither did Sachin, but Sachin did respond strongly to it in the first over of our innings. He hit 18 runs in that over."

Former Australia pacer Brett Lee has heaped praise on Virender Sehwag calling him one of the toughest batters he has bowled to. Lee recently recalled his fierce battles with Sehwag and said the former Indian opener was just too good with the bat. Sehwag was known for his swashbuckling style of batting during his playing days and used to go after the bowlers irrespective of the format.

Sehwag enjoyed some fierce duels with Lee, one of the fastest bowlers of all time. The former Australian pacer used to bowl at over 150 kmph consistently and was a nightmare to face for even the best of batters. Lee is arguably one of the best fast bowlers the game has ever seen and he enjoyed great duels with Indian batters.

The former Australian pacer has always maintained he found the legendary Sachin Tendulkar the toughest to bowl to but he also holds his opening partner Sehwag in the same regard. Lee, who enjoyed some great battles with Sehwag, recalled how the former India opener was a character who just loved playing cricket and had the ability to get people hooked to their seats with his attacking strokeplay.

"The guy that looked a little bit like Sachin Tendulkar when he was batting. And I thought 'here we go again. Another Sachin Tendulkar. If one wasn't enough, we've got another one and he is opening the batting'. We tried that in an ODI match one day and he whacked it... he absolutely nailed it out of the ground. I just thought ‘this guy is too good," Lee said in a video on his YouTube channel.

"And he would give you that cheeky little wink. The best thing about Sehwag was that he was a character. He loved playing cricket and those little battle scars against the bowler. He got the ability to make people get hooked on to seats," he added.

"You think of the word cruel. You think of the word swashbuckling. Think of the world unpredictable, I think of none other than Virender Sehwag. He played with a smile on his face, with intent... the type of guy that would quite likely want to hit the first ball of a Test match for six... and he has done it," said Lee as he spoke highly about Sehwag.

"He is a guy that is so hard to bowl to because, as I mentioned, the unpredictability. You would bowl that beautiful line and length, thinking, I’ve got him… ball shaping away. And that big smile, Sehwag would go bang, hit you over cover for six," he added.

During MS Dhoni's captaincy era, there were several reports of an alleged rift between his deputy Virender Sehwag and him. Before the commencement of the 2009 T20 World Cup, there was a lot said and written about Dhoni-Sehwag's equation in the media.

Thus, prior to the then defending champions India's opening clash -- versus Bangladesh -- in the second edition of the T20 WC, in England, Dhoni pulled off another unorthodox move and attended a press conference with the entire Team India players.

While Sehwag and the other members remained standing, Dhoni took a seat and read the official statement of the team, clearing the air regarding the alleged rift.

“Recent reports in the Indian media of a rift between myself and Sehwag amounts to nothing but false and irresponsible media reporting,” the statement read. “Our fans and supporters can take confidence from the wonderful unity that continues to exist in the team," it further added.

ALSO READ | 'MS Dhoni's dropping percentage was 21' - Former Pakistan captain's big claim on India legend's keeping skills The entire rift rumours had got elevated when a reporter had inquired about Sehwag's fitness to Dhoni prior to the 2009 showpiece event. "Whatever is related to the fitness, you will get from the BCCI", Dhoni had replied. On being probed further, the keeper-batter replied, "I am not saying anything on that”, while even admitting he was very aware of the status of the injury. For the unversed, Sehwag didn't play a single game for India in the 2009 T20 WC, where the Men in Blue bowed out in the Super Eight round.

Throwback! When MS Dhoni walked into press conference with entire team to leave reporters stunned

Former Indian spinner Pragyan Ojha hailed MS Dhoni and mentioned that the ex-Indian captain was one of the main reasons behind Men in Blue's 2011 ODI World Cup triumph at home. Ojha credited Dhoni for creating a group of 25-30 players who were ready for the big occasions at any given point and had enough match experience to not falter during knockout stages.

“I strongly feel that the reason the 2011 World Cup was a success for us was because MS Dhoni was very serious about all the guys who were going to be in the mix, the 25 or 30, needed to play at least 40 games before the World Cup started. You may have scored a lot of runs but if you don’t have the experience of dealing with various situations, you may not feel it during the league matches but the most important games, the knockouts, the semi-finals and the finals …. That is when that experience really helps you," Ojha said on FanCode.

Under Dhoni, India lifted their second ODI WC title by beating Sri Lanka in the final at the iconic Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai on April 2, 2011. Dhoni scored a match-winning 91 not out along with Gautam Gambhir's 97 as India chased down a challenging 274 versus the Islanders. The likes of Sachin Tendulkar, Virender Sehwag, Yuvraj Singh, Gambhir, Virat Kohli, Suresh Raina, Harbhajan Singh, Zaheer Khan, R Ashwin, etc. played a huge role in India's success.

When the competition goes so high you have to raise your game too and go higher," Ojha added.

Former India captain Rahul Dravid recently opened up on his successful career for the Indian team and revealed how learning to switch off from the game mentally helped him perform much better throughout his career. One of the best batters to have played for India, Dravid enjoyed a legendary career at the international level and troubled some of the most prominent bowlers with his incredible defensive technique.

Famously known as 'The Wall' for his ability to frustrate even the best of bowlers with his astute defensive skills, Dravid was a mainstay in India's batting line-up across formats throughout his international career. Dravid, who could bat for hours and hours in the middle, explained how switching off from the game was as important for him as spending extra hours in the gym or practice sessions.

"If I look back at my career, that (channelising the energy) was a game-changer. I was really able to channel my mental energy. I used to spend a lot of energy even when I was not playing thinking about my game, worrying about it, and reflecting on it. In time I learned that was not necessarily helping my batting. I needed to refresh and almost find a life outside of cricket," Dravid told Abhinav Bindra on his podcast 'In the Zone'.

Dravid explained it was after three-four years after he started his career that he realised the extra burden of thinking about the game when not playing was not helping his cause at all. The former India captain also pointed out how he was not someone like his former teammate Virender Sehwag, who found it easy to switch off due to his personality.

While India have surprised one and all with their pragmatic and aggressive approach while playing the shortest format, the former Indian opener still feels there are a few concerns and highlighted them on Twitter post the final T20I. The legendary cricketer feels India still have players who are better suited for the format and the team management needs to find a way to make them a part of the playing XI. "India has so many batsman who can get going from the start , some of them are unfortunately sitting out. Need to find a way to play the best available players in current form in T-20 cricket," wrote Sehwag. 'Some of them are sitting out': Sehwag feels India need to play 'best available players' ahead of T20 WC

Former India cricketer Venkatesh Prasad has slammed Team India's recent policy of resting out-of-form players and not dropping them from the team based on their reputation. Prasad believes giving breaks to players like captain Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli would not help them in regaining their form while also stating that there are a number of talented youngsters waiting in the wings to get opportunities for Team India.

Prasad's comments came after India's 17-run loss against England in the 2nd T20I where the likes of Kohli and Rohit failed to deliver yet again on top of the order. Both the batters were dismissed on 11 runs each as India's top-order crumbled under pressure in the 216-run chase. Suryakumar Yadav slammed a stunning knock of 117 runs in the game but it was not enough to take India over the line.

Prasad's remarks have come at a time when Kohli, in particular, is facing criticism from all corners over his ongoing lean patch. The star batter has struggled across all formats in international cricket for a while now and his recent failures have led to former cricketers and experts questioning his spot in India's T20I team ahead of the T20 World Cup 2022 this year.

Prasad too took to Twitter to take a dig at India's selection policy under captain Rohit and head coach Rahul Dravid, pointing out how some of the legends of the game have also been dropped by Team India in the past for not performing well at the highest level. Prasad said players cannot play on reputation when talented youngsters are waiting in the wings.
