California Governor Gavin Newsom took a swipe at US President Donald Trump after Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth criticised the military's fitness levels. In response to these comments, Newsom posted a photo of Trump, taken at a McDonald's last October, along with a sarcastic caption saying, "I guess the Commander in Chief needs to go!" His press office also shared a doctored image of Trump holding two McDonald's burgers, with drones flying in to deliver more fast food. He argued that the armed forces should be focused on fitness and discipline, rather than left-wing issues, and called for a return to ‘high standards’ in terms of appearance and behaviour. His comments also targeted policies such as grooming rules, which he argued were too lenient, particularly in allowing shaving waivers for Black troops. During his address, Hegseth defended his recent firings of high-ranking officers, including the Army’s top general and the Navy’s top admiral, both of whom were either women or people of colour.&nbsp;"This speech is about fixing decades of decay, some of it obvious, some of it hidden. "Foolish and reckless political leaders set the wrong compass heading, and we lost our way. We became the 'Woke Department.' But not anymore," "Hegseth said, as he called strict grooming standards, including a one-year cap on shaving waivers that are disproportionately used by Black troops. "Standards must be uniform, gender-neutral and high -- if not, they're not standards. They're just suggestions, suggestions that get our sons and daughters killed," Hegseth was quoted as saying. "The era of unprofessional appearance is over. No more beardos," Hegseth told the audience, which sat in silence.

He outlined “red lines” that hia Religious Zionism Party “will not compromise on”.Smotrich said that “through actions, our hold on the territory, and uncompromising enforcement that depends solely on the IDF and our security system.” He demanded a “true and complete withdrawal” of Hamas from Gaza and a full disarmament of all terror infrastructures.“The IDF will remain forever in the perimeter, including the Philadelphi Corridor, will maintain full operational freedom of action in all areas of the Strip, and will prevent smuggling and defend the southern settlements. It has been proven that we cannot rely on anyone else but ourselves to prevent smuggling and the rearmament of terror organizations in Gaza,” he said.

He added, “It is time to put an end to Qatar's hypocrisy and duplicity, which encourages and funds terror.” The minister also denied a mention of a Palestinian state, saying it “would endanger Israel’s existence.”“President Trump, upon entering office, explained better than anyone else how small Israel is, like the tip of a pen relative to the huge table in the Oval Office and how impossible it is to defend it with such narrow borders. The idea of a Palestinian state must be taken off the table forever and certainly not brought back through the front door and granted it dangerous ideological legitimacy in a right-wing government with the supportive Trump administration,” he said.

US President Donald Trump’s granddaughter, Kai Trump, has launched her new clothing brand this week, and showcased it at the 2025 Ryder Cup alongside her grandfather. Another wrote in the comments, “The logos look a little similar, but they're in different fonts and that's not actionable. An official of the US President Donald Trump’s administration was reportedly assaulted at the United Nations headquarters in New York during the UN General Assembly session on Thursday (Sep 25). These are the two things I got from the United Nations: a bad escalator and a bad teleprompter.” A day later, Trump said that the Secret Service was investigating what he described as “sabotage” at the United Nations, claiming that the an escalator malfunction, a teleprompter failure and sound problems disrupted his appearance. “A REAL DISGRACE took place at the United Nations yesterday — Not one, not two, but three very sinister events!" Trump wrote in a Wednesday Truth Social post. “This wasn’t a coincidence, this was triple sabotage at the UN. They ought to be ashamed of themselves... No wonder the United Nations hasn’t been able to do the job that they were put in existence to do.” However, the UN Secretary-General spokesperson Stéphane Dujarric told reporters that it was possibly a videographer from the US delegation who accidentally brought the escalator to a halt. “A subsequent investigation, including a readout of the machine's central processing unit, indicated that the escalator had stopped after a built-in safety mechanism on the comb step was triggered at the top of the escalator,” where the videographer was standing to film the US president’s arrival, he said, according to NPR. The UN has also said that the US delegation was responsible for operating Trump’s teleprompter. However, White House told the outlet that its staffers were “prevented by UN staff” from setting up the teleprompter ahead of the US president’s speech. It added that the staff was left “trying to set the teleprompter up as the President was speaking.”

While the “lunatic” was arrested after the incident and the official was safe, White House blamed the UN for “failure” after they attempted to “sabotage” Trump’s speech.

India's Ministry of External Affairs on Friday (Sep 26) issued a sharp statement, refuting the claims of NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte, who said that US President Donald Trump’s tariffs against India are indirectly having an impact on the war in Ukraine. This comes after Rutte alleged that New Delhi has contacted Moscow, adding that Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi has urged Russian President Vladimir Putin to explain his strategy on Ukraine amid trade tensions with the US.“We have seen the statement by NATO Secretary-General Mr. Mark Rutte regarding a purported phone conversation between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and President Vladimir Putin. Former FBI Director James Comey has been indicted by a federal grand jury, making him the first senior US official to face charges in Donald Trump’s drive to go after political rivals.Comey, who oversaw the 2016 Russia investigation, has been charged with false statements and obstruction of a congressional proceeding. If convicted, he could face up to five years in prison.Trump celebrated the indictment on Truth Social, writing: “JUSTICE IN AMERICA! One of the worst human beings this Country has ever been exposed to is James Comey, the former Corrupt Head of the FBI.”<h2>What the charges are about</h2>Prosecutors say the case stems from Comey’s testimony to the Senate Judiciary Committee on September 30, 2020. According to the indictment, he falsely told senators that he had not authorised anyone to serve as an anonymous source in news reports. That statement, prosecutors argue, was untrue. The charge is tied to an FBI leak probe known as the “Arctic haze” investigation, which looked into classified information that appeared in multiple news outlets.Comey has denied wrongdoing. In an Instagram video he said: “Let’s have a trial. And keep the faith. Russian warplanes spotted near Alaska, intercepted by US military: Here's what we know

US President Donald Trump assured Arab and Muslim leaders on Tuesday that he would not allow Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to annex the West Bank, according to a Politico report. The report said Trump was firm on the point, stressing that Israel would not be permitted to absorb the territory, which is governed by the Palestinian Authority. Another source said that even with this assurance, a ceasefire to end Israel’s nearly two-year war with Hamas remained far out of reach. Also read: <a href="https://www.wionews.com/world/-we-don-t-want-to-punish-india-us-tells-india-to-buy-oil-from-anywhere-just-not-russia-1758781214297">'We don’t want to punish India': US tells India to buy oil from 'anywhere, just not Russia'</a><h2>What plan did Trump’s team present?</h2>The report said Trump’s team presented a white paper outlining its vision for ending the conflict. The document included the annexation pledge as well as proposals on governance and postwar security. Steve Witkoff, Trump’s special envoy for peace missions, shared some details the following day at the Concordia summit in New York. “We presented what we call the Trump 21-point plan for peace in the Mideast in Gaza,” he said. “I think it addresses Israeli concerns and as well, the concerns of all the neighbours in the region.” Witkoff did not mention the West Bank directly.<h2>How did Arab leaders respond?</h2>Before the meeting at the United Nations, Trump told reporters it was his “most important” engagement of the day. He left without taking questions and no official readout was issued. Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan later called the meeting “fruitful” in an interview with Fox News but did not share details. Erdogan is scheduled to meet Trump again at the White House on Thursday.Arab leaders have been increasingly frustrated by Trump’s backing of Netanyahu’s war and his refusal to recognise a Palestinian state. Ahead of the talks, they warned that any Israeli move to annex the West Bank could shatter the Abraham Accords, Trump’s signature diplomatic achievement that normalised ties between Israel and several Arab nations.<h2>Why does annexation remain a flashpoint?</h2>Calls within Israel to formally annex parts of the West Bank have grown after several US allies recognised a Palestinian state. Far-right members of Netanyahu’s government see this as a chance to deliver on a long-held ambition of absorbing the territory. The war has already killed more than 64,000 Palestinians, and Arab states insist that annexation of the West Bank is a red line.

Donald Trump assured Arab leaders he would block Netanyahu’s West Bank annexation, unveiling a 21-point peace plan, but frustrations over Israel’s Gaza war and rejection of Palestinian statehood continue to strain regional diplomacy.

Also read: 'We don’t want to punish India': US tells India to buy oil from 'anywhere, just not Russia' What plan did Trump’s team present? The report said Trump’s team presented a white paper outlining its vision for ending the conflict. “I think it addresses Israeli concerns and as well, the concerns of all the neighbours in the region.” Witkoff did not mention the West Bank directly. How did Arab leaders respond? Before the meeting at the United Nations, Trump told reporters it was his “most important” engagement of the day. He left without taking questions and no official readout was issued. Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan later called the meeting “fruitful” in an interview with Fox News but did not share details. Erdogan is scheduled to meet Trump again at the White House on Thursday. Arab leaders have been increasingly frustrated by Trump’s backing of Netanyahu’s war and his refusal to recognise a Palestinian state. Ahead of the talks, they warned that any Israeli move to annex the West Bank could shatter the Abraham Accords, Trump’s signature diplomatic achievement that normalised ties between Israel and several Arab nations. Why does annexation remain a flashpoint? Calls within Israel to formally annex parts of the West Bank have grown after several US allies recognised a Palestinian state. Far-right members of Netanyahu’s government see this as a chance to deliver on a long-held ambition of absorbing the territory. Netanyahu, facing elections next year, may use the issue to shore up support among hardliners. His government has already expanded settlements and deepened security control across the West Bank. Arab and European officials have warned that annexation would end any remaining prospects of a two-state solution and block Israel’s integration into the wider Middle East. 'He inherited a mess': Trump promises ‘help’ for Argentina amid financial storm - Why this lifeline matters for President Javier Milei?

During the Rose Garden briefing on autism spectrum disorder (ASD) on Monday (Sep 22), US President Donald Trump made a claim that Tylenol is linked to a higher risk of autism. But while doing so, the US president stumbled over the word ‘acetaminophen’ – a word he did not know how to pronounce. As Trump struggled to pronounce the name of the active ingredient in Tylenol, the awkward moment became the highlight of the event and went viral on the internet. While addressing reporters and health officials, Trump attempted to read the word from his notes. “Ah-ced-uv… well, let’s see how we say that. Ascenem – enophin. Acetaminophen. Is that ok?” he said, drawing laughter from the crowd. The clips of the brief moment quickly circulated on social media, including X, TikTok, and Instagram, as netizens compared it to his past gaffes like “yo-Semites” for Yosemite in 2018.

During the briefing, Trump told pregnant women in the United States to avoid Tylenol and “tough it out”. “Taking Tylenol is not good. I’ll say it. Don’t take Tylenol,” Trump said. Kennedy added, “This isn’t a ban—it’s science.”<h2>What did Trump say?</h2>Trump linked the common painkiller, known as paracetamol outside the US, to autism. He advised pregnant women should use acetaminophen only when necessary for high fevers, in the smallest dose and shortest time possible. His claims are not backed by medical consensus.Trump further claimed that Cuba has virtually no autism, as it lacks Tylenol and pointed to the Amish as another group with essentially no autism. “There’s a rumour—and I don’t know if it’s so or not—that Cuba, they don’t have Tylenol because they don’t have the money for Tylenol. And they have virtually no autism,” he said.Meanwhile, health professionals in the US have warned that Trump’s claims were “dangerous” and “full of misinformation”. The American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists warned that avoiding Tylenol entirely without alternatives may put the mothers and unborn children at risk. The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) said, “a causal relationship (between acetaminophen and autism) has not been established,” and debate in the scientific community is ongoing.<h2>WHO quashes Trump’s claims</h2>The World Health Organization on Tuesday (Sep 22) slammed Trump’s recent claims on Tylenol as “inconsistent”, saying that neither the painkiller nor vaccines have been shown to cause autism.WHO spokesman Tarik Jasarevic told reporters that while some observational studies had suggested that autism may be possibly linked with acetaminophen or paracetamol, the primary ingredient in Tylenol, others had “found no such relationship.” He further stated that “the evidence remains inconsistent”.Jasarevic added that there was no doubt that “vaccines do not cause autism.”

‘Evidence remains inconsistent’: WHO quashes Trump’s claims of Tylenol linked with autism during pregnancy

Donald Trump’s presidency is not a series of random events; it’s an intricate and disturbing strategy. A strategy, yes, but one fueled less by a coherent vision of governance and more by a relentless drive to cement his own power at any cost. In his world, reality bends to his will, and the American public must learn to live with a constant churn of crisis, controversy, and chaos. The events of just one day—a tweet demanding the prosecution of his political foes, a press release undermining decades of public health consensus, and an attack on free speech—illustrate how Trump continues to hold his loyal base in a near-messianic grip.&nbsp; For the vast majority of Americans, Trump’s willingness to flout established norms is deeply troubling. His rhetoric and actions undermine the very institutions that underpin our democracy. On Monday (September 22), for instance, he announced a new government stance linking the use of acetaminophen during pregnancy to a significant increase in autism risk—an assertion that flies in the face of what scientific experts have spent years trying to communicate. His comments, once again, leave a lasting impact on public health policy. But for his supporters, it’s not about scientific integrity; it’s about defying what they see as the expert “elite".&nbsp; Also Read: <a href="https://www.wionews.com/world/h1-b-visa-fee-hike-is-a-trade-barrier-legal-argument-for-india-to-sue-the-us-at-the-wto-in-a-world-first-under-mode-4-of-gats-1758608807223">H1-B visa fee hike is a trade barrier: Legal argument for India to sue the US at the WTO in a world-first under Mode 4 of GATS</a>&nbsp;Trump’s deep disdain for science is no accident. By giving a platform to figures like Robert F. Kennedy Jr.—a well-known skeptic of vaccines—he continues to nurture a base that thrives on anti-establishment sentiment. This isn’t just a personal vendetta against experts; it’s a political calculation. The alliance with vaccine skeptics and anti-science activists taps into a vein of distrust and frustration that has only grown since the pandemic. What’s more, it solidifies his position as the figurehead of a movement that seeks to upend the establishment—not by offering a better alternative, but by destabilising everything it touches.&nbsp; For many, these moves might appear reckless, even harmful. It’s easy to see them as the caprices of a president with little regard for the common good. But this chaotic approach is calculated. It resonates deeply with voters who feel left behind by both parties, who view the “elite” as not just out of touch, but actively working against them. Trump’s entire political brand is built on the idea that he is not the one who is broken, but that it’s the system—the courts, the media, the scientific establishment—that needs to be fixed.&nbsp;&nbsp; Also Read: <a href="https://www.wionews.com/world/what-is-tylenol-fda-issues-letter-to-physicians-alerting-about-drug-after-trump-s-warning-against-its-usage-1758612188946">What is Tylenol? FDA issues letter to physicians alerting about drug after Trump's warning against its usage</a>&nbsp;In the warped logic of his politics, every conspiracy theory, every unsubstantiated claim, becomes not just a defense of his presidency, but a validation of his populist message. Nowhere is this more evident than in his attacks on the legal system. The call for Attorney General Pam Bondi to begin prosecuting his political adversaries, despite a glaring lack of evidence, is not just reckless; it’s a dangerous weaponization of the justice system. Trump’s interference in legal matters, including the removal of prosecutors who refuse to charge his political enemies, has the potential to erode the very foundation of American democracy. The impartiality of the law, once thought to be a cornerstone of our system, becomes a casualty in his quest to settle scores.&nbsp;Yet, Trump’s base sees it differently. To them, these actions aren’t signs of tyranny; they are proof that he is unafraid to take on the entrenched interests that have long held power in Washington. The more Trump challenges the norms, the more his followers view him as a fighter—someone who will “drain the swamp” and expose the corruption they believe festers in the halls of power. This dynamic, in which Trump positions himself as the defender of the “little guy” against the Washington elite, is what keeps his support base loyal, even as the rest of the country recoils.&nbsp; This strategy is not only about Trump; it’s about fostering a deep mistrust of anything labeled “official” or “mainstream.” In undermining science, questioning the legitimacy of the legal system, and attacking the media, Trump is shaping a world in which truth becomes malleable, and loyalty to him becomes the only constant. For his supporters, the very chaos he creates is proof of his commitment to confronting the “corrupt elites.” It’s a strategy that keeps his base energised, but one that poses grave risks to the fabric of American governance.

But for his supporters, it’s not about scientific integrity; it’s about defying what they see as the expert “elite". Also Read: H1-B visa fee hike is a trade barrier: Legal argument for India to sue the US at the WTO in a world-first under Mode 4 of GATS Trump’s deep disdain for science is no accident. What’s more, it solidifies his position as the figurehead of a movement that seeks to upend the establishment—not by offering a better alternative, but by destabilising everything it touches. For many, these moves might appear reckless, even harmful. It’s easy to see them as the caprices of a president with little regard for the common good. But this chaotic approach is calculated. It resonates deeply with voters who feel left behind by both parties, who view the “elite” as not just out of touch, but actively working against them. Trump’s entire political brand is built on the idea that he is not the one who is broken, but that it’s the system—the courts, the media, the scientific establishment—that needs to be fixed. Also Read: What is Tylenol? FDA issues letter to physicians alerting about drug after Trump's warning against its usage In the warped logic of his politics, every conspiracy theory, every unsubstantiated claim, becomes not just a defense of his presidency, but a validation of his populist message. The impartiality of the law, once thought to be a cornerstone of our system, becomes a casualty in his quest to settle scores. Yet, Trump’s base sees it differently. This dynamic, in which Trump positions himself as the defender of the “little guy” against the Washington elite, is what keeps his support base loyal, even as the rest of the country recoils. This strategy is not only about Trump; it’s about fostering a deep mistrust of anything labeled “official” or “mainstream.” In undermining science, questioning the legitimacy of the legal system, and attacking the media, Trump is shaping a world in which truth becomes malleable, and loyalty to him becomes the only constant. For his supporters, the very chaos he creates is proof of his commitment to confronting the “corrupt elites.” It’s a strategy that keeps his base energised, but one that poses grave risks to the fabric of American governance.

For God and country. For reason and for common sense.”Erika Kirk said that she forgave the “young man” who killed her husband, drawing applause from the crowd. British Prime Minister Kier Starmer is reportedly exploring proposals to abolish some visa fees for attracting top global talent. This comes after the US President Donald Trump’s administration has taken a tougher stance on its immigration policies, imposing a $100,000 fee for new H-1B visas from Sunday (Sep 22). One of the major issues in that election was a duelling perspective on emissions, energy policy, and they are now stepping in and asking the court to overrule the results."<h2>Witnesses grilled</h2>The spotlight then shifted to the young plaintiffs, represented by the nonprofit Our Children's Trust, who described how climate change is reshaping their lives.J.M., a teenager from Livingston, Montana, said that even in her short life she has seen snowfall decline, wildfire seasons lengthen, and flooding worsen. One blaze forced her family to evacuate, and she remembers packing her stuffed toys and worrying about the family's animals."Just experiencing that from a young age put the fear of wildfire in me," she said.Another plaintiff, Joseph Lee, 19, recalled wildfires in California last year that destroyed the home of a friend."I don't know if I'm going to be next -- are my parents going to be safe?"&nbsp;he told the court.Asked why he chose to participate in the lawsuit, Lee, who has been hospitalized for heat stroke that nearly caused organ failure, said: "A better future is possible."The young people faced tough questioning from government lawyers, who grilled J.M. over her family's decision to keep three horses -- arguing that raising them contributed to greenhouse emissions and implying she was being hypocritical.<h2>Long odds</h2>Expert witnesses also took the stand Tuesday, including renowned climate scientist Steven Running, who shared the 2007 Nobel Peace Prize for being a co-author on a major UN climate report, and former senior White House official John Podesta."In your expert opinion would their injuries get worse if more fossil fuels were to be unleashed under these executive orders?" Olson asked Running."Unquestionably," he answered. The plaintiffs are seeking a preliminary injunction that could open the door to a full trial. The federal government, joined by 19 conservative-leaning states and the territory of Guam, wants the case thrown out, but has not called their own witnesses. The plaintiffs hope to build on recent state-level wins: a 2023 Montana ruling that oil and gas permits violated the state's constitutional right to a clean environment, and a 2024 Hawaii settlement mandating faster decarbonization of its transport sector. On the federal level, however, the record is bleak. The landmark 2015 Juliana v. United States case was dismissed after the Supreme Court declined to hear an appeal earlier this year.During cross-examination, government lawyer Sawyer pressed Podesta for previously arguing against Juliana when he served in the government. But Podesta countered that while Juliana was too broad, and would have required reversing five decades of policy, in the new case the "remedy is direct and narrow" -- "To pull back on specific actions that are heavily burdening these kids and will have direct impact on their lives."It remains to be seen whether this central argument, key to the plaintiff's case, plays.Judge Dana Christensen, an Obama appointee with a record of pro-environment rulings, is presiding -- but even if the plaintiffs notch a win, the case could eventually land before the conservative-dominated Supreme Court.Disclaimer: This story has been published from a news agency feed with minimal edits to adhere to WION's style guide.
