US President Donald Trump has suggested that further American strikes on Iran are possible if the country resumes work on its nuclear programme. His comments came during the NATO Summit in The Hague on Wednesday (June 25).When asked whether the United States would strike again if Iran tried to rebuild its nuclear sites, Trump said, “Sure.”Trump's comments come following a 12-day conflict between Iran and Israel, which ended after a US-brokered ceasefire.
US says Iran’s nuclear sites were targeted
The United States launched airstrikes on Saturday targeting three major Iranian nuclear sites, Fordow, Natanz and Isfahan. Will the US strike Iran again? Trump says it depends on THIS one thing

US President Donald Trump has been nominated by Republican leader Buddy Carter for Nobel Peace Prize for brokering the ceasefire between Israel and Iran. He credited Trump for ‘preventing the world's largest state sponsor of terrorism from obtaining the most lethal weapon on the planet.’ Earlier, Pakistan said that the US president deserved a Nobel Peace Prize because of “his decisive diplomatic intervention and pivotal leadership during the recent India-Pakistan crisis”. Trump has repeatedly expressed his disappointment, saying he won't receive the prize, ‘no matter what he does.’ Trump and his obsession with the Nobel Peace Prize is a story that's not new. From 2018 to the present, he has been nominated for the prize six times by several individuals, yet he has not yet received one. “They should give me the Nobel Prize for Rwanda, Congo, Serbia…the big one is India-Pakistan. I should have gotten it 4-5 times. Abraham Accords would have been a good one. They won’t give me. They only give it to liberals,” Trump bemoaned.
Who is the decision maker for the peace prize?
The Nobel Peace Prize is one of the five Nobel Prizes established by Alfred Nobel’s will in 1895. It is awarded annually by the Norwegian Nobel Committee to individuals or organizations that have made significant contributions to peace. National politicians, university professors in history, social sciences, law, philosophy, theology, previous Nobel laureates, members of international courts, directors of peace research institutes, etc can nominate people or organisations for the peace prize. Nominations must be submitted by January 31 each year. So in this case, Pakistan's nomination of Trump is for next year i.e 2026 Nobel Peace Prize. The Norwegian Nobel Committee, a 5-member body appointed by the Norwegian Parliament, reviews all valid nominations. A shortlist is created—only a handful of candidates are seriously considered. Committee members and advisers analyze the shortlisted nominees’ actual impact on peace. The Nobel Committee meets to deliberate and a majority vote is required. If no candidate meets the standard, no prize is awarded. The Nobel Peace Prize winner is officially announced in early October. The announcement is made in Oslo, Norway, unlike other Nobel Prizes, which are announced in Sweden.
Why has Trump not received the Nobel Prize yet?
Despite multiple nominations, Donald Trump has not been awarded the Nobel Peace Prize due to several key factors considered by the Norwegian Nobel Committee. While he played a role in diplomatic efforts such as the Abraham Accords and initial talks with North Korea, these initiatives were often viewed as incomplete or lacking long-term impact. Critics argue that many of his foreign policy actions were transactional rather than transformative and did not resolve underlying conflicts. Additionally, Trump’s domestic and international human rights record—marked by policies like family separations at the US border and travel bans—ran counter to the Nobel Peace Prize's emphasis on humanitarian values and dignity. His presidency also saw continued military actions, including drone strikes and targeted killings, which conflicted with the Nobel’s focus on disarmament and peaceful conflict resolution. Furthermore, Trump’s highly polarising political style contrasted with the unifying image typical of past laureates. While some supporters claim ideological bias within the committee—given its ties to Norway’s parliament and perceived liberal leanings—the Nobel Committee has never confirmed such influence. Trump’s public and frequent promotion of his candidacy for the prize is unusual. Furthermore, Trump has criticized the Nobel committee for awarding the prize to former President Barack Obama. Just a few months into his presidency in 2009, Obama was honoured for his push to curb nuclear weapons and improve relations with the Muslim world. Stating that he shoudl definately get one, Trump in 2019 criticised Obama saying, "They gave one to Obama immediately upon his ascent to the presidency, and he had no idea why he got it. ... That was the only thing I agreed with him on." "I deserve it, but they would never give me", remains Trump's bottom line on Nobel Peace Prize. Whether or not this would change in future, only time can tell.

US President Donald Trump on Tuesday said he is not seeking regime change in Iran, days after appearing to suggest otherwise on social media.Speaking to reporters aboard Air Force One, Trump downplayed the idea of removing Iran’s current leadership. “If there was, there was, but no, I don’t want it. 'ISRAEL not going to attack Iran': Trump insists ceasefire ‘in effect’, tells Israeli pilots to turn back and do friendly ‘Plane Wave’ to Iranians

US President Donald Trump expressed anger on Tuesday (24 June) after both Israel and Iran broke a ceasefire he claimed to have brokered just hours earlier, even using an expletive to describe the situation.
Trump: ‘Israel needs to calm down’
As he left for the NATO Summit in Hauge from the White House, Trump told reporters, “I gotta get Israel to calm down now.” He accused Israel of immediately launching fresh strikes despite agreeing to the truce.“As soon as we made the deal, they came out and they dropped a load of bombs, the likes of which I’ve never seen before, the biggest load that we’ve seen,” Trump said.Clearly frustrated, the president swore on the camera saying, “We basically have two countries that have been fighting so long and so hard that they don’t know what the fuck they’re doing.”

US President Donald Trump and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky are expected to meet on Wednesday (Jun 25) on the sidelines of the NATO summit in The Hague, a senior source in the Ukrainian presidency told AFP. The source said that “the team are finalising the details,” adding that the talks scheduled would focus on sanctions against Russia and arms procurement for Kyiv. The United States on Sunday (June 22) struck Iran's three nuclear sites, Fordow, Natanz, and Esfahan, amid ongoing tensions between Israel and Iran. US President Donald Trump confirmed the attack, adding that B-2 stealth bombers were involved in the attack. This is not the first time the US has deployed B-2 bombers in combat. Here’s every known time the B-2 has flown into battle.
What is the B-2 bomber?
The B-2 Spirit is a long-range stealth bomber developed by Northrop Grumman. Flying directly from Missouri in the United States to Serbia and back, the bombers conducted precision strikes on key Serbian targets such as airfields and command centres. The missions lasted over 30 hours and marked the bomber’s first real-world test.
Afghanistan (2001–2002)
During the early stages of the war in Afghanistan, B-2 bombers hit Taliban bunkers, training camps, and cave complexes. The missions began in the US and involved mid-air refuelling, proving the B-2’s global reach and endurance.
Iraq (2003)
In March 2003, B-2s were used in the opening strikes of the Iraq War. They dropped bunker-buster bombs on Saddam Hussein’s suspected command bunkers and missile facilities, playing a key role in disabling leadership and air defences early in the campaign.
Libya (2011)
As part of NATO’s Operation Odyssey Dawn, the US sent three B-2 bombers from the continental US to bomb airfields and hardened aircraft shelters in Libya. This surprise attack helped enforce a no-fly zone and crippled Libya’s air power within hours.
Syria (2017)
Although not officially confirmed, multiple reports suggest that B-2 bombers were used in strikes against ISIS in eastern Syria. These missions allegedly involved the use of GBU-57 Massive Ordnance Penetrators, which are designed to hit deep, fortified targets.
Yemen (2024)
In October 2024, the US used B-2 bombers to strike Iran-backed Houthi rebel facilities in Yemen. The Pentagon described the move as a “unique demonstration” of the B-2’s ability to hit deeply buried and hardened sites, with then-Defence Secretary Lloyd Austin highlighting its strategic significance.
Iran (2025)
In the most recent and perhaps most significant deployment, the US used B-2 bombers in June 2025 to strike three major Iranian nuclear sites—Fordow, Natanz, and Esfahan. President Donald Trump called the operation a “spectacular military success”, claiming the sites had been “completely and fully obliterated.”

'Iran not the first time': How many times has US used B-2 bomber in combat?

What is the connection between a cricket Test between India and England at Leeds and a disturbing military conflict between Iran and the US involving Israel? On the face of it, there is none, but then cricket is a great metaphor to understand the game involving geopolitics and diplomacy. It was great to see a huge crowd of well-dressed English folk at the Headingly ground applauding Indian cricketers in a Test match that seems evenly poised as this is being written. There was a time when the crowds for an India-England game were thin and often full of ethnic Indians. Things have changed so much that you could say the English now view India as closer to, if not better than, their old rivals, Australia. Some of the old assumptions that go back to Britain's colonial domination of India are gone -- from both sides. Time changes everything, and it is time to keep that in mind as we look at the options before India following the Israel-Iran faceoff in which the military might of President Donald Trump-led Washington is more than apparent as Iran's nuclear facilities have been pounded by US stealth bombers. The broad perception is that India is on the side of Israel and, therefore, the US. It gets tricky when you notice that diplomatic relations are more than messy in the merry-go-round of geopolitics. The US sees Iran as a terror-sponsoring state, but conveniently supports Pakistan that India sees as a terror sponsor because it is a useful ally in containing both Iran and China, not to speak of Afghanistan. Operation Sindoor showed that India is pretty much alone in its battle to contain state-supported terror attacks on India nurtured on the Pakistani soil by the very groups that the US has declared as terrorists. Don't look for logical consistency here. It is all about expediency and usefulness. Only the other day, General-turned Field Marshal Asim Munir was recommending Trump for the Nobel peace prize after an honourable luncheon at the White House but Pakistan is now officially not with the US on Iran bombings. What should India do now? The attitude of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's government in general and his Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in particular has been pro-Israel and anti-Islamist terror, but for all practical purposes that translates as anti-Iran. This requires a course correction following last weekend's Operation Midnight Hammer. We need to stand back a little to get some context. While it is true that the US equated India and Pakistan in an undesirable false equivalence after Operation Sindoor, it is equally true that India decided to go ahead and buy Russian oil despite American sanctions against Vladimir Putin's war on Ukraine. There are already unconfirmed reports of US or Western military aircraft having refuelled in India as part of the attacks on Iran. India has solid trade relations with both China and the US. Iran is not a big trading partner as there is a total bilateral turnover of less than $2 billion, but the crisis in the Strait of Hormuz controlled by Iran shows that oil prices can zoom, hurting India's economic growth precisely at a bounce-back stage. That is simply not on. An act of limited reactive defence on a terrorist attack with back-up evidence cannot be equated with a proactive, preemptive military pounding on Iran's nuclear programme, for which there is no evidence in international diplomacy. Stay smart, stay neutral: Why India should avoid risky strokes in Iran-US crisis

Good morning! Start your day with WION's morning news brief

After the United States struck three Iranian nuclear facilities under what it called ‘Operation Midnight Hammer’, AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi slammed Pakistan for nominating President Donald Trump for the Nobel Peace Prize and asked if they want him to win the prize for the strikes on nuclear sites in Iran. The AIMIM chief's remarks come against the backdrop of the American strikes on Iranian nuclear sites as well as Pakistan’s move to nominate the US President for the 2026 Nobel Peace Prize. Pakistan had nominated Trump for the Nobel Prize, citing his “diplomatic intervention and pivotal leadership” during the recent India-Pakistan conflict. He further questioned Pakistan’s support for Trump and asked if they backed him only to see the strikes on Iran.“We should ask Pakistanis if they want Trump to get a Nobel Peace Prize for this...,” Owaisi said, referring to the US strikes on Iran’s nuclear facilities in Fordo, Natanz, and Isfahan. He also mocked Pakistan's top military leadership and asked whether Islamabad’s Army chief, Asim Munir, had lunch with the US president for this (US strikes on Iran). “They all have been exposed today,” Owaisi added.

Owaisi further raised concerns over the chances of serious consequences for India if a full-scale war breaks out in the Middle East region. He cited that over 16 million Indians reside in the Gulf and the Middle East, saying that “if that area erupts in a war, which unfortunately is very likely, then it will have a grave impact on the Indians living there”. Owaisi also targeted the United States and President Donald Trump for the strikes in Iran. “The US was never an honest broker. Whether it is Iraq, Libya or Palestine. The US is sitting completely silent on the ethnic cleansing taking place in Gaza,” Owaisi told news agency ANI. “You went into Iraq, saying they were creating these weapons of mass destruction, and nothing was found over there. You removed Gaddafi in Libya, and nothing happened. Saddam was killed, and Gaddafi was killed. US President Donald Trump, early on Sunday, announced that Washington carried out strikes on Iran's three nuclear facilities. Later, Trump warned Iran that any retaliation from Tehran against the US “will be met with force far greater than what was witnessed” on Sunday.

Owaisi further raised concerns over the chances of serious consequences for India if a full-scale war breaks out in the Middle East region. He cited that over 16 million Indians reside in the Gulf and the Middle East.

The United States' decision to join Israel in direct strikes on Iran's nuclear sites marks a significant escalation in a long and turbulent history. However, this conflict is not new, it didn't begin in 2025, nor in 1979, but decades earlier with oil, colonial interests, and a CIA-backed coup. There is a decade long struggle for power between Iran and the West. Here's a detailed look at how nearly a century of intervention, revolution, nuclear diplomacy, and proxy wars have led to the current flashpoint. The earliest known point of the conflict was in 1951.
1951–1953: The Oil Crisis and Mossadegh's Fall
In the early 50's Iran had a liberal Prime Minister nurturing a delicate democracy, who believed in shipping the country's oil resources offshore and using that wealth in investing on the country and it's people. The Prime Minister Mohammad Mossadegh’s nationalisation of the Anglo-Iranian Oil Company in 1951, however, threatened British and Western oil interests. The response was very swift and covert. In 1953, the CIA and British intelligence orchestrated a coup also known as 'Operation Ajax', deposing Mossadegh and restoring the Shah to power, this was proved through a declassified document of the CIA which admits to 'Ajax' 'having a hand' in demonstrations that spilled onto the streets of Tehran. The Shah’s government later signed the 1954 Consortium Agreement, giving British, American, and French oil firms 40% ownership of Iran’s oil for 25 years.
1957: Nuclear Cooperation Begins
Under President Dwight D. Eisenhower’s 'Atoms for Peace' initiative, Iran received nuclear technology from the US. This was after the US and Iran signed the Cooperation Concerning Civil Uses of Atoms agreement. This cooperation laid the groundwork for Iran’s nuclear programme, with the US even supplying weapons-grade uranium and a reactor.
1979: Revolution and Rupture
A popular uprising overthrew the US-backed Shah in 1979, replacing the monarchy with Ayatollah Khomeini’s Islamic Republic. That year, Iranian protestors also seized the US Embassy in Tehran, taking 52 Americans hostage for about 444 days. Khomeini took power as the supreme leader in December, resultantly turning Iran from a pro-West monarchy to a vehemently anti-West Islamic theocracy. As a result, the diplomatic ties between the two countries were severed and never fully restored. The Iranian oil imports were sanctioned and Iranian assets were blocked.
1980s: Proxy War and Sanctions
During the Iran-Iraq War (1980–88), the US supported Saddam Hussein’s Iraq against the war, despite Iraq's use of chemical weapons. Iran paid a heavy price, losing over a million people in the conflict. In 1988, the US Navy accidently shot down an Iranian passenger plane, killing all 290 civilians on-board. The US also imposed heavy sanctions throughout the decade.
1990s: Isolation Deepens

The US ramped up sanctions under Presidents Bush and Clinton administrations. The 1996 Iran and Libya Sanctions Act targeted foreign investment in Iran’s energy sector imposing an embargo against these non-American companies investing more than $20 million per year. Meanwhile, Qasem Soleimani rose through the ranks of the IRGC, eventually leading the Quds Force, Iran’s elite military unit focused on foreign operations.
2000s: Axis of Evil and Nuclear Suspicion
In 2002, President George W. Bush labelled Iran part of the "Axis of Evil" along with Iraq and N. Korea. Even though Iran helped the US post-9/11 against the Taliban, tensions escalated over nuclear development. In 2003 found traces of enriched uranium, however, Iran denies plans for a bomb. By 2006, Iran was enriching uranium and dismissing Western concerns.
2015: The Nuclear Deal
After years of negotiation, Iran finally signed the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) with the US and world powers in 2015. This deal limited Iran’s nuclear programme in exchange for easing the sanctions. President Obama called it a historic step toward non-proliferation.
2018: Trump Withdraws
President Donald Trump withdrew from the JCPOA, calling it 'one-sided' and 'the worst deal ever'. He reinstated sanctions under a 'maximum pressure' campaign on Iran. Iran responded by ramping up uranium enrichment, breaching the deal’s limits. Trump later designated the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) which is a branch of the Iranian army—a foreign terrorist organization (FTO).
2020: Soleimani’s Assassination
In January 2020, the US killed Qasem Soleimani in a drone strike in Baghdad after Trump's order. Soleimani was considered as the most powerful person after Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei. Iran retaliated with missile strikes on US bases in Iraq, in the process, accidentally shooting down a Ukrainian passenger jet. The move marked a sharp deterioration in relations. Iran's parliament approves a bill to boost uranium enrichment to 20 per cent which was far beyond the concentrations permitted by the JCPOA.
2021–2022: Stalled Diplomacy
The Biden administration attempted to revive the nuclear deal, but talks stalled, particularly after hardliner Ebrahim Raisi became the president of Iran. Iran began supplying drones to Russia during the Ukraine war, further straining relations with the West.
2023: A Fragile Thaw
In 2023, the US and Iran conducted a prisoner swap, and $6 billion in frozen Iranian funds were released. The Republican lawmakers, however, criticise the deal, which is said to be mediated by governments including Iraq, Oman, Qatar, Switzerland, and the United Kingdom, as a ransom paid to a hostile government. But the detente was short-lived. In October, Hamas attacked Israel killing more than 1,200 civilians. Though Iran denied involvement, tensions soared again.
2024: Direct Attacks Begin
For the first time ever, Iran launched hundreds of missiles and drones at Israel in April and again in October. Israel retaliated with its largest direct attack on Iranian soil, with the help of US military and intelligence support.
2025: From Pressure to War
January: Trump returned to office for the second time, and revived his 'maximum pressure' strategy on Iran. March: The US and Iran began a series of negotiations aimed at reaching a nuclear peace agreement following a letter sent by Trump to Khamenei, the letter set a two-month deadline for the agreement. April–May: Indirect talks between US and Iran, mediated by Oman and held in Rome failed. Iran refused to halt uranium enrichment. June 13: Israel bombed major Iranian nuclear facilities. Trump initially distanced himself. June 22: The US officially entered the conflict, targeting Fordow, Natanz, and Isfahan nuclear sites. President Trump called it 'a clear warning'. Khamenei went into hiding into a secure underground bunker, fearing an assassination attempt. In a televised statement, Trump said, "Iran’s key nuclear enrichment facilities have been completely and totally obliterated." He confirmed that 30 Tomahawk missiles and six GBU-57 bunker-busters were used.

1957: Nuclear Cooperation Begins Under President Dwight D. 1979: Revolution and Rupture A popular uprising overthrew the US-backed Shah in 1979, replacing the monarchy with Ayatollah Khomeini’s Islamic Republic. 1980s: Proxy War and Sanctions During the Iran-Iraq War (1980–88), the US supported Saddam Hussein’s Iraq against the war, despite Iraq's use of chemical weapons. Iran paid a heavy price, losing over a million people in the conflict. In 1988, the US Navy accidently shot down an Iranian passenger plane, killing all 290 civilians on-board. The US also imposed heavy sanctions throughout the decade. 1990s: Isolation Deepens The US ramped up sanctions under Presidents Bush and Clinton administrations. 2000s: Axis of Evil and Nuclear Suspicion In 2002, President George W. 2015: The Nuclear Deal After years of negotiation, Iran finally signed the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) with the US and world powers in 2015. This deal limited Iran’s nuclear programme in exchange for easing the sanctions. President Obama called it a historic step toward non-proliferation. 2018: Trump Withdraws President Donald Trump withdrew from the JCPOA, calling it 'one-sided' and 'the worst deal ever'. 2020: Soleimani’s Assassination In January 2020, the US killed Qasem Soleimani in a drone strike in Baghdad after Trump's order. 2021–2022: Stalled Diplomacy The Biden administration attempted to revive the nuclear deal, but talks stalled, particularly after hardliner Ebrahim Raisi became the president of Iran. Iran began supplying drones to Russia during the Ukraine war, further straining relations with the West. 2023: A Fragile Thaw In 2023, the US and Iran conducted a prisoner swap, and $6 billion in frozen Iranian funds were released. 2024: Direct Attacks Begin For the first time ever, Iran launched hundreds of missiles and drones at Israel in April and again in October. Israel retaliated with its largest direct attack on Iranian soil, with the help of US military and intelligence support. 2025: From Pressure to War January: Trump returned to office for the second time, and revived his 'maximum pressure' strategy on Iran.

There is a decade long struggle for power between Iran and the West. Here's a detailed look at how nearly a century of intervention, revolution, nuclear diplomacy, and proxy wars have led to the current flashpoint. The earliest known point of the conflict was in 1951.

A user on the social media platform, Truth Social, said, “Depending on your opinion there are those who approve of the Trump administration's bombing of Iran nuclear sites and those who do not. Undoubtedly those who do not approve of the bombing of the nuclear sites have bad dreams every night whereas those who approve of the bombing have good dreams every night. The United States is about 70/30 on that front. When Donald Trump said he wanted to restore the American dream that included our dream lives and he was not kidding.”

The B-2 is capable of carrying a 30,000-pound GBU-57 Massive Ordnance Penetrator of the US, which can destroy underground targets like the Fordow nuclear facility. The report added that a US official familiar with the matter said that Israel has communicated to Washington that it believes Trump’s deadline of two weeks is too long and swift action is needed amid the conflict. During the call between Israeli and US officials, Vice President JD Vance pushes back, saying that the United States shouldn’t be directly involved with the conflict in the Middle East. He suggested that Israelis were dragging the US into war, the sources said. Defence Secretary Pete Hegseth was also present in the call. Who else took part in the call was not clear. The Jerusalem Post reported earlier that a phone call took place on Thursday. Israel has accused Iran of seeking nuclear weapons, citing it as the reason behind its military operations against Tehran. But Iran has consistently denied the claim, insisting that its nuclear programme is only for peaceful purposes. Disclaimer: WION takes utmost care to accurately and responsibly report ongoing developments in the Israel-Iran conflict. In this context, claims and counterclaims are being made online and offline. Israel could act alone before the deadline given by Trump is up, and Israel has communicated its concerns to the US administration officials on Thursday in a tense phone call, as described by the sources.

Israel may strike Iran’s Fordow nuclear site before Trump’s two-week deadline: Report

US Intel Chief Tulsi Gabbard said that Iran could produce nuclear weapons "within weeks", months after she appeared before Congress to testify that the nation was not making them. The US Director of National Intelligence said her March testimony - in which she said Iran had a stock of materials but was not manufacturing these weapons - had been misconstrued by "dishonest media". Her flip was after Donald Trump said that she was "wrong" and that intelligence indicated Iran had a "tremendous amount of material" and could make a nuclear weapon "within months". Iran has consistently maintained that its nuclear program is purely peaceful and it has never attempted to build a nuclear weapon. On Thursday (June 19 ), Trump said he was giving Tehran the "maximum" of two weeks to agree on its nuclear program with Washington. He added that he would soon determine if the US will join the Israeli strikes against Iran. There has been growing disagreement within Trump's "America First" movement on whether the US should get involved in the conflict. On Saturday morning, Iran's Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said that his nation was "absolutely ready for a negotiated solution" on their nuclear programme but Iran "cannot go through negotiations with the US when our people are under bombardment". In her social media post, Gabbard said US intelligence indicated Iran is "at the point that it can produce a nuclear weapon within weeks to months". "President Trump has made it very clear that can't happen, and I agree," she continued. Gabbard shared a video of her complete testimony to Congress in March, in which she reported US intelligence agencies had found that Iran was not developing nuclear weapons. Experts also determined that Iran had not restarted its suspended 2003 nuclear arms programme, she said in the video, while the country's inventory of enriched uranium - one building block of such weapons - was at a historic high. In her testimony, she said Iran's inventory was "unprecedented for a non-nuclear-armed state.". Earlier this month, the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), the world's nuclear watchdog, sounded the alarm over Iran's enriched uranium stockpile, which can be used to produce reactor fuel but also weapons. Gabbard's testimony in March has been previously attacked by Trump, who previously told reporters that he did not "care what she said". The US president indicated that he is sure Iran were "very close to having a weapon" and his nation was not going to let that occur.

US President Donald Trump has spared no effort in demonstrating his desire to win the Nobel Peace Prize. In a latest development, Trump once again touted his claimed diplomatic achievements as a justification for receiving the world’s most prestigious peace honour. This time, Trump bragged his alleged role in easing tensions between India and Pakistan, a claim which has multiple times been firmly denied by New Delhi. On numerous occasions, from official speeches to campaign rallies and even interviews, Trump has never shied away from publicly referenced the Nobel Peace Prize. Despite not securing the award during his first term, his preoccupation with it appears undiminished.
A Pattern of Nominations

Trump has been nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize on multiple occasions, since his first term but has never won the prize. From Norwegian MP Christian Tybring-Gjedde, Swedish MP Magnus Jacobsson, and U.S. Congresswoman Claudia Tenney, his nominations have come from a range of people, who have been typically citing his role in diplomatic agreements such as the Abraham Accords. Earlier on Saturday, Pakistan through a post on social media platform X recommended his name, stating that the President should get Nobel Peace Prize in 2026 “in recognition of his decisive diplomatic intervention and pivotal leadership during the recent India-Pakistan crisis”. In 2024, Trump was again nominated by Anat Alon-Beck, who is an Israeli-born law professor at Case Western Reserve University. He credited him with fostering the early efforts toward peace in the Middle East and even facilitating hostage releases. Before this, Ukrainian politician Oleksandr Merezhko also put Trump forward for consideration.Despite being nominated several times, the Nobel Committee has never considered awarding him. It is often said that at the core of Trump’s resentment appears to be the 2009 Nobel Peace Prize awarded to the then President Barack Obama. Trump’s longing for the Nobel Peace Prize seems to be rooted in legacy, recognition, and validation. If we go by the reports from The New York Times and Axios, Trump believes this prize would strengthen his status as a statesman and validate his often-criticised foreign policy. He has provided multiple reference to the Nobel every time he is touting peace deals and mediating ceasefire efforts, this includes his involvement in Ukraine, Gaza, and the Middle East, often arguing that his contributions have gone unrecognised due to 'political bias'. The prize has become both a point of pride and grievance for Trump. On Social media and during public appearances, Trump frames the Nobel Peace Prize as a symbol of unjust exclusion, even while asserting that he does not care about awards. “No, I won’t get a Nobel Peace Prize no matter what I do... but the people know, and that’s all that matters to me,” he wrote. Many of Trump critics believe that this statement tells of deeper personal ambition.
Past U.S. Presidents Who Won the Prize
Trump is obviously not the first American president to seek the Nobel Peace Prize, but he is among a rare group who have expressed such great interest so vocally. Mahmoud Khalil, a leader of nationwide pro-Palestinian campus protests, was released from a federal detention centre on Friday (Jun 20) after a court order.
