The Virat Kohli-led Indian team is set to clash with Kane Williamson's New Zealand in the ICC World Test Championship final, to be played in Southampton from June 18, and the expectation for the huge match is touching its pinnacle.
"We do have a fair idea about Kane’s game, though I don’t think he has too many weaknesses. Of course, any quality batsman can fall to a good delivery, so as a fast bowler, you should look to stick to your strong points and bowl more of those balls which can fetch you wickets. And yeah, we need to get Kane out as early as possible as that’ll surely benefit the team," Umesh told The Telegraph.

Against India, Williamson has played 11 Tests, scoring 728 runs at an average of 36.40, including four half-centuries of two centuries. India had lost both their Tests against New Zealand a year ago, and the impending challenge is required to be an intense one for the Kohli-led team.

English conditions are also a big challenge for us and so is playing against a team like New Zealand. But being Test players, we need to play with discipline and make sure we remain disciplined right throughout in all aspects of the game. The team that maintains such discipline in each and every session will prevail" - he added.

Indian pacer Umesh Yadav has been ruled out of the remainder of the Test series against Australia. Umesh, who limped off in pain after pulling his calf muscle on Day 3 of the Boxing Day Test, left for India on Monday in a bid to recover in time for the upcoming England series.

Umesh’s injury leaves the Indian bowling unit even more depleted. Ahead of the Boxing Day Test, key bowler Mohammed Shami was ruled out of the series due to fractured hand. Shardul Thakur or T Natarajan, who were a part of Indian side as net bowlers, are likely to start in the third Test against Australia, scheduled to start at the Sydney Cricket Ground on January 7.

Umesh Yadav ruled out of Australia tour due to calf injury

Australia on Monday were put on backfoot by the resilience of Indian cricket team as the hosts, at the end of Day 3 of the Boxing Day Test in Melbourne, could manage just 133/6 with a lead of just two runs. The Indian bowlers were all over the Australian batting unit and didn’t allow any of the Aussie batters to settle on the pitch as the Ajinkya Rahane’s men inch closer to equalise the series.

Australia were hunted down collectively by the Indian bowling unit as the likes of Jasprit Bumrah, Umesh Yadav, Mohammed Siraj and Ravichandran Ashwin picked up a wicket each with Ravindra Jadeja scalping two to dismantle the Aussies.

While Matthew Wade showed grit to score 40 off 137, he was trapped plumb by Jadeja. Apart from Wade, none of the Aussie batters could score big with the hosts staring at a massive defeat in the Boxing Day Test.

India vs Bangladesh: Umesh Yadav takes five as winning-run for Kohli & Co continues

The Indian team is on the verge of 12th consecutive Test series victory at home after skipper scored a commanding ton which was later backed by yet another day of quality fast bowling.

At stumps on Day 2 of first-ever pink-ball Test between both nations, Bangladesh were struggling to avoid defeat by an innings with a score of 152 runs. Bangladesh are still trailing by 89 runs and have only four wickets left with them.

After taking a fifer in the first innings, Ishant Sharma was once again the star of the bowling as he took four wickets and is set for another five-wicket-haul.

At one stage, India looked to end match on the second day itself when Bangladesh lost four wickets in less than seven overs.

However, Mushfiqur Rahim and Mahmudullah's 120-run partnership delayed of what seems like another humiliating loss for visitors. The partnership looked threatening when Mahmudullah pulled up his hamstring while attempting a sharp single and was retired hurt.

The day ended after Umesh Yadav dismissed Taijul Islam, his second wicket of the innings. Rahim is still batting on 59.

Earlier, India declared on 347-9 after Virat Kohli scored his 27th hundred and ensured that India gained a decisive lead against the visitors. This was the 20th ton of Kohli as skipper and an incredible catch by concussion substitute Taijul Islam ended Indian skipper's innings at 138.

Kohli was ably supported by Ajinkya Rahane, who scored a half-century and the duo put on a crucial partnership of 99 runs. After the loss of Kohli and Rahane, India lost few quick wickets before wicketkeeper-batsman Wriddhiman Saha and Mohammed Shami hit few boundaries to take India a tad under 350.

The highlight of Kohli's innings was when he smashed Abu Jayed for four consecutive boundaries before finishing his innings with 18 fours.

Ind vs Ban 2nd Test: Hosts finish Day 1 on strong note after pace trio skittles Bangladesh

Bangladesh were forced to use two concussion substitutes Friday after India's pacemen led by Ishant Sharma bowled them out for 106 in the first day-night Test for both the teams.

Ishant returned figures of 5-22 in India's pink-ball debut to skittle the tourists in the second session after they elected to bat first in Kolkata.

But the tourists were dealt a double blow after Liton Das and Nayeem Islam were forced out of the game following hits on the helmet from paceman Mohammed Shami.

India were 35 for one at dinner -- the second session break of the day-night Test, trailing the tourists by 71 runs.

Rohit Sharma, on 13, and Cheteshwar Pujara, on seven, were batting after Mayank Agarwal was out for 14 off paceman Al-Amin Hossain.

Mehidy Hasan, who replaced Liton after the wicketkeeper-batsman retired hurt on 24, and Taijul Islam, for Nayeem, are back in the XI.

Mehidy, who made eight while batting, was replacing a batsman, so he can only bat. Taijul is a sub for an off-spinner, so he can bowl.

The International Cricket Council (ICC) approved the use of concussion substitutes for all internationals from August. This is the first time two subs are being used in a Test.

India and Bangladesh have joined the pink-ball party four years after the first day-night Test in Adelaide between Australia and New Zealand.

Ishant struck first to get Imrul Kayes trapped lbw for four, and the left-handed opener wasted a review with replays showing the ball would have hit leg stump.

Umesh Yadav soon got going in his second spell to send back skipper Mominul Haque, caught superbly by Rohit at second slip for nought, before bowling Mohammed Mithun two balls later.

Kolkata-based Shami, part of India's deadly pace trio in the series, received the loudest cheers from a packed house at Eden Gardens after getting Mushfiqur Rahim bowled for nought.

Opener Shadman Islam worked hard for his 29 off 52 balls before becoming Yadav's third victim of the first session, which ended with Bangladesh on 73-6.

Ishant returned to wipe out the tail alongside Shami who took the final wicket of Abu for nought -- the fourth zero in the innings. India's cricket chief Sourav Ganguly has put on a grand show at Eden Gardens, which is sold out for the first four days of the match. Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina was in attendance along with a host of cricketing greats including batting icon Sachin Tendulkar.

India call up Umesh Yadav to replace injured Jasprit Bumrah for South Africa series

Struggling Bangalore pacer Umesh Yadav says getting dropped from the Indian team off and on has led to a loss of self-confidence and dip in form which is clearly showing in the ongoing Indian Premier League.

Umesh, who is not in India's World Cup team, said nothing is going right for him and the piling mental pressure has affected his accuracy and rhythm in bowling.

"Everybody is saying I am not bowling well and why is this happening? Because in last two years I continued playing all formats in domestic level, but after that, I have not played too many ODIs or T20s. I am just picked for 2 to 3 games, then again get dropped," Umesh said.

"Everyone is thinking I am not giving my best, but it is not. It happens for every fast bowler," he said after the abandoned IPL match between RCB Rajasthan Royals on Tuesday.

Umesh admitted that for the past six months he has not been able to maintain accuracy.

"It is difficult to elaborate because it is part of every bowler. Sometimes, we have a good or a bad day. I think this is the phase wherein from 4 to 6 months I am not that accurate," said the 31-year-old whose last ODI was on October 24 against the West Indies.

He said his rhythm has not been the best because of mental pressure.

"Sometimes too many things goes into your head. Sometimes, there definitely is confidence, but other times I feel I am not having my time this year. Hence, that is the problem this year. Actually, my rhythm and everything is not going my way," he said.

Umesh is hurt for not delivering this season after having been the highest wicket-taker for Bangalore last edition.

"Last time I was the highest wicket-taker and this year it did not happen, so definitely I am feeling bad and hurt for not being able to deliver properly whenever the team wants from me," he said.

"The way he is playing cricket and learning, he has a bright future ahead."

Meanwhile, Shreyas Gopal, who bagged a hat-trick in the match, said he was happy with his performance, but disappointed his team did not win which would have made things clearer point-wise.

Gopal had dismissed Virat Kohli, AB De Villiers and Marcus Stoinis off successive balls to claim a hat-trick.

This will be the first time when Hyderabad and Bangalore will come face to face at Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2018.

While Hyderabad is leading the table with 14 points, Bangalore is struggling to even make it for the play-off and hence are at the third place from the bottom with just six points.

Let us take a look at the players expected to perform in today's big clash:

1. Rashid Khan - In his last match against Delhi, Rashid took two crucial wickets, which made him the 'Man of the Match'. He is also two wickets away from wearing the 'Purple Cap'. The Afghanistan tweaker is capable of breaking any standing partnership, making him the player to watch out for today.

2. Umesh Yadav - Considering his previous game against Chennai, Yadav dismissed Shane Watson and Suresh Raina to put Bangalore over the 'Yellow Brigade'. But eventually, they lost the match. He has been in good form from last few games and is expected to do the same and knock out Hyderabad batsmen. And, not to forget that one more wicket today and he will get the 'Purple Cap'.

3. Alex Hales - Hyderabad picked Hales as their new replacement for David Warner for this season of IPL. He has played two matches so far scoring 90 runs. In his previous game against Delhi, he scored 31-ball-45 which included three fours and three sixes. Being picked up at his base price, the opener has a lot more to offer to his franchise.

4. Parthiv Patel - Patel got his first chance in IPL 2018 in the previous game against Chennai and he smashed a brilliant half-century to prove his worth and calibre. His inning was a signal to Bangalore and warning to other franchises that he is capable of playing many such knocks. The Bangalore opener and wicket-keeper is definitely a player to watch out for today.

5. Kane Williamson - The backbone of Hyderabad is one of the most successful skippers in the ongoing league so far. With his team being the table-toppers, he definitely fulfilled his duties as a captain. When required he has stood up for his team as a batsman too. In nine matches he has scored 354 runs which include four half-centuries. Even in his previous game, Hyderabad skipper remained unbeaten and ensured victory for his side. Also, he stands at number seven in the race for the 'Orange Cap'.

Being at top of the table, it won't be unfair at all to say that Hyderabad has an upper hand in today's game. While Bangalore have to play a different game altogether to beat the current number one team.

The third and the final Test match is scheduled to be held in Johannesburg and will start from January 24

Indian cricket team, who is on the tour of South Africa to play three test matches, six One Day Internationals and three T20 Internationals, have already lost the Test series by 2-0. Despite two consecutive loss to Proteas, few Indian players skipped a day of the training session for a small jaunt to the jungle safari in South Africa. Although their location is not certain, but as per media reports, they went to Mabula game reserve which is located just two-and-a-half hours' drive from Johannesburg. It is said to be one of South Africa’s finest private game reserves, which is owned by absconding Indian businessmen Vijay Mallya. He owns 99.5 per cent stake in the 25,000-acre game reserve, for which he paid $6 million. The Indian cricketers even shared images on social media with Lion and Cheetah from their excursion. Ravindra Jadeja posted a picture on Instagram quoting, "Sher ! Sher Hota hai, Chahe Sasan gir mein ya Jobourg mein..Pinjare Mein Sher ko bahut log pathar marte hain, Asli Mard Saamne Khadde Hote Hain." × Opener batsman KL Rahul, who was roped in place of Shikhar Dhawan for the second Test, also posted a picture with Cheetah quoting, "Just a Lion and a Cheetah chilling." × Seamer Umesh Yadav posted a video of giraffes from Pilanesberg National Park & Game Reserve and quoted, "Wildlife safari#pilanesberg#great fun." × Indian pacer, Jasprit Bumrah, too posted a picture and quoted, "Never become sad when life pulls you back, because lion also takes one step back when he wants to go for a long jump. " × Mohammed Shami also posted an image with a lion. × Not only the cricketers, their wives were also accompanying them. Rohit Sharma's wife Ritika, Umesh Yadav's wife Tanya Wadhwa and Shikhar Dhawan's wife Aesha Dhawan posed with the wild animals. × × × The first Test was in Cape Town where both the teams struggled to score but it was South Africa which outplayed India and got the early lead.
The selection committee of Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has yet again ignored star spinners Ravindra Jadeja and R Ashwin, while announcing India's ODI squad for South Africa.

The selectors decided to persist with the young wrist-spinning duo of Kuldeep Yadav and Yuzvendra Chahal along with left-arm orthodox Axar Patel.

The two last featured in the limited-overs team during India’s tour of the West Indies, soon after the June ICC Champions Trophy.

Meanwhile, left paceman Umesh Yadav also did not find any place in the squad and is replaced by Mohammed Shami.

Shami last played an ODI against Australia in September 2017.

Meanwhile, KL Rahul, whose performance cannot be doubted if considered the ongoing T20I series against Sri Lanka, was also left out.

Middle-order batsman Kedar Jadhav and speedster Shardul Thakur have made a comeback into the Indian team.

Skipper Virat Kohli, who rested for the ODI and T20I series against Sri Lanka, will lead the side.

Ahead of the ODIs, India will start their tour with the three-Test series against the Proteas, starting January 5 in Capetown while the second (January 13-17) and third (January 24-28) Tests will be played in Centurion and Johannesburg, respectively.

The ODI series starts from February 1 in Durban, four days after the conclusion of the third Test. The second ODI will be played in Centurion on February 4, the third in Cape Town on February 7, while the fourth and fifth ODIs will be held on February 10 and 13 in Johannesburg and Port Elizabeth respectively.

The final ODI will be played in Centurion on February 16, followed by a three-match T20I series concluding on February 24.
