New Zealand seamer Trent Boult didn't sign the central contract with NZC for the current tenure as he wanted to play in the T20 Leagues around the world and spend more time with his family.&nbsp;

However, with the 2023 World Cup scheduled to begin in less than three months, NZC and Boult have cut a 'flexi' deal between them that might see the left-armer remain available and play ahead of the contracted players and earn a bit more also - a situation the former head coach Mike Hesson feels uncomfortable with.

Speaking with Sky Sports, Hesson expressed his displeasure over Boult getting an unfair advantage over centrally contracted players who have put in hard yards to be here in the first place. Boult, who represented Rajasthan Royals in the IPL 2023, will now feature for MI New York for the inaugural season of Major League Cricket (MLC).

"If you want the IPL and two or three or four other tournaments as well, you probably can't have everything, and that's a decision you've got to make at the start of the year, and I just think the flexi contracts just make it a bit untidy," Hesson said on Sky Sports. "It just gets really untidy when you've got 20 contracts, or however many is on that [NZC] list now and then you have an extra one [for Boult], and next year you might have three extra ones and."

Boult, who also appeared for the Blackcaps in T20 World Cup last year, is likely to get a go-ahead for this year's WC. Hesson feels while it could be a win-win situation for both Boult and NZC, it remains unfair to the current breed of players who are also vying for a spot in the side for the World Cup.

"This flexi contract, it might work really well for Trent, and it might actually work well for New Zealand Cricket, but it does open up a whole can of worms," Hesson added.

<h2>Boult wants some extra dollar now</h2>

Alongside Hesson, New Zealand's former assistant coach Craig McMillan shared the same views. McMillan said though he respects Boult for his services to New Zealand cricket, this current situation around the 'flexi' contract doesn't sit well with him either.

"It seemed only 12 months ago Trent Boult was more than happy to make his decision to move away from international cricket and take the riches of the T20 franchises around the world, and you couldn't bemoan him that," McMillan said.

"He'd had a wonderful career for New Zealand and been a great servant and now almost wants a little bit of a dollar each way. It's a difficult one. It doesn't sit overly well with me, and I'm sure it doesn't sit with some of the other players within the setup who are doing the hard yards then have to move back [when they return]," McMillan added.

As for Trent Boult, the Kiwi is known for extraction swing early on and has taken the wicket in the over multiple times in the ongoing IPL season as well. In five matches he has played before the one against Royal Challengers Bangalore on Sunday, he has taken seven wickets so far.

Against the Gujarat Titans in the next match, Boult sent back Wriddhiman Saha on the third ball of his and Titans innings' first over. It was only the last match against the Lucknow Super Giants where Boult took his only wicket in the game in the 12th over of the inning.

IPL 2023: RR's Samson takes SCREMAER to dismiss DC's Shaw as Boult bowls double-wicket maiden again - WATCH

Rajasthan Royals (RR), the IPL 2022 runners-up, have retained their core players ahead of the IPL 2023 mini auction, set to be held on December 23. While sharing their list of retained and released players, the one-time winners have retained superstars such as captain Sanju Samson, Jos Buttler, R Ashwin, Yuzvendra Chahal, Trent Boult and some promising Indian talents but have let go of as many as five players from the released list (comprising nine names overall).

The likes of&nbsp;Daryl Mitchell, James Neesham,&nbsp;Rassie van der Dussen are some known international names who have been released after not having a consistent run in the IPL 2022 edition. They will be in need of some quality all-rounders in the forthcoming mini auction and some handy backups.&nbsp;

For now, RR have a well-oiled bowling line-up and some handy batters but will need the likes of Devdutt Padikkal and Riyan Parag to deliver so that the pressure doesn't fall up on Yashasvi Jaiswal, Samson and Buttler.

Glenn Phillips rode his luck to smash a special hundred as New Zealand put their poor start behind to register a crucial 65-run win over Sri Lanka in the T20 World Cup, here on Saturday.

New Zealand found themselves tottering at 15 for three inside the powerplay before Phillips (104 off 64) shared an 84-run stand with Daryl Mitchell (22 off 24) to stabilise the innings.

Sri Lanka too lost early wickets but, unlike New Zealand, could not recover from there to end at 102 all out in 19.2 overs. Trent Boult caused the maximum damage with the new ball and ended up with career-best figures of four for 13 in four overs.

It was New Zealand's second win in three games, with their previous game against Afghanistan being a total washout. The semifinal passage gets a lot tougher for Asia Cup champions Sri Lanka, who suffered their second loss in three games.

The game was as good as over with Sri Lanka slipping to 24 for five in the seventh over. The veteran pace of duo of Boult and Tim Southee ran through Sri Lanka's top-order with the former picking up three wickets in his opening spell. Left-arm spinner Mitchell Santer (2/21) and Ish Sodhi (2/21) also chipped in with couple of wickets.

Barring Bhanuka Rajapaksa's breezy 34 off 22 balls, none of the Sri Lankan batters could get going against a formidable Kiwi attack. Skipper Dasun Shanaka (35 off 32), who has bailed his team out of tough situations, could not do so on Saturday.

It was New Zealand's first game since their win over Australia a week ago but it did not take long for them to operate at their optimal best.

In what may come as a shocker to the cricketing community, New Zealand pacer Trent Boult has decided to step out of his New Zealand Cricket (NZC) central contract to spend more time with his family, fueling aspersions of an impending retirement from international cricket.&nbsp;

According to NZC, Boult requested the board to be relieved from his central contract which was duly accepted. David White, NZC chief executive stated that the board respected Trent's position but was saddened to lose a player of his class.&nbsp;

Trent Boult's decision to pull out of New Zealand Cricket's central contract has left the cricket fraternity surprised. The 33-year-old left-arm pacer is one of the vital cogs in New Zealand's fast bowling unit across formats and is one of the best in the world at present. Boult had requested to be released from the central contract to spend more time with his family.

His decision, however, has sparked a debate on players preferring franchise cricket over national duty. While he will continue to represent New Zealand in international cricket, Boult is set to have a significantly reduced role for the Black Caps and is likely to feature in only major tournaments.

With many questioning his decision to snub a central contract, Australian pace great Jason Gillespie has backed the Kiwi quick insisting that the cricket landscape is 'changing'. Gillespie believes a vast majority of players still want to play for their countries but the priorities will shift in the future.

"Whether we like/agree or not, the cricketing landscape has been changing for a while now. The absolute vast majority of players want to play for their country first and foremost. There will come a time however when priorities shift," Gillespie wrote on Twitter.

"A 33 yr old seamer&nbsp;wanting to maximise his earning potential whilst he has currency AND get to spend more time with his young family? Hard to argue with that imho. We need to explore ways to make sure international cricket stays at the forefront of everyone's thinking going forward," he added.

New Zealand pacer Trent Boult's decision to snub New Zealand Cricket (NZC)'s central contract has left many surprised. Boult was released from the central contract list by NZC on Wednesday (August 10) at his own request as the fast bowler has decided to spend more time with his family. Boult's participation in international cricket will now be limited as he is not a centrally-contracted player anymore.

While his decision has sparked rumours of early retirement, Boult will not regularly feature across all three formats for New Zealand. His participation will be reduced to a significant extent as the board will prefer players with central contracts over the left-arm pacer.

The release from the central contract has also put Boult's participation in the upcoming T20 World Cup 2022 in doubt. David White, the CEO of New Zealand Cricket is however, hopeful Boult will be part of the Kiwi squad for the showpiece event in Australia later this year. White said Boult is more likely to feature only in global tournaments now and might not take part in bilateral cricket.

"I’d imagine that he will be selected for the T20 World Cup in Australia because he’s been a big part of our plans and preparation for that. He knows he will be playing a significantly less amount of international cricket," White was quoted as saying by stuff.co.nz.

"We’ve said to him that, in the future, priority for selection will be given to centrally contracted Black Caps and domestic players. Although, we will, on a case-by-case basis, consider him.

"I think it’s fair to say there’s more likelihood of him participating in global events than bilateral cricket. He’s just found it very demanding with a young family and wife he wants to spend more time with," he added.

Thus, at the post-match presentation, Danny Marrison tried putting Samson in a spot and asked him if he feels it is 'about time to get that IPL trophy back in the RR cabinet' this time around. To this, Samson had a cheeky response up his sleeves and said, "I think every season we come with great dreams. I think it's a franchise that really takes care of its players. RR got the better of SRH in every department after skipper Sanju Samson led from the front with a scintillating 27-ball 55 to power his team to an imposing 210 for six.

Smarting from the pounding in the first half of their opening fixture, SRH failed to pose any serious threat to RR after a disastrous start to their innings, which saw them slip to 9/3 and then 29/4.

In the end, Kane Williamson's (2) team was stopped at 149 for seven, with the captain himself enduring a bad day in office.

SRH wouldn't have got even that many had it not been for Aiden Markram's unbeaten 57 and Washington Sundar's 14-ball 40, the latter somewhat making up with the willow after his forgettable outing with the ball.

SRH's top-order batting was in stark contrast to Samson and Devdutt Padikkal (41 off 29 balls; 4x4; 6x2), who added 73 runs for the third wicket off 41 balls, before Shimron Hetmyer used his brute power to clobber 32 in only 13 deliveries and take RR past 200.

Samson's six-hitting prowess was on display as he struck five maximums and three boundaries, sparing no bowler during his entertaining stay in the middle.

Later Hetymar smashed three sixes to pile on SRH's misery. A clinical show by the bowlers, led by leg-spinner Yuzvedra Chahal (3/22 in 4 overs), then completed the task for RR.

Chasing an improbable 211, Sunrisers lost key batter Williamson after a diving catch by Padikkal before Rahul Tripathi (0) became Prasidh Krishna's second victim of the day. It became 9/3 as Trent Boult trapped Nicolas Pooran (0) in front of the wicket.

To make matters worse, Chahal removed two more batters in Abhishek Sharma and Abdul Samad in quick succession, as Sunrisers lost half their side for 37 runs and stared at a heavy defeat.

But Markram, Romario Shepherd (24) and Sundar, who got 24 runs in the 17th over, delayed the inevitable and reduced the margin of defeat.

During the final over, pacer Nathan Coulter-Nile injured himself while landing and was taken off. Put into bat, Royals opener Jos Buttler got a life on zero courtesy a no ball. Buttler (35) and Yashasvi Jaiswal (20) then gave the side a flying start, adding 58 runs to lay the foundation for a big total.

Buttler was brutal on Umran Malik, hammering him for two fours and two maximums in the fourth over, as RR collected 21 runs.

The two openers then struck a six each off Sundar (0/47) in the next over as RR raced to 52 for no loss in five overs. 
Jaiswal however perished in the seventh over, holing out to Markram off Shepherd. While Buttler, who hit three fours and as many sixes, was dismissed at the start of the ninth over as RR slipped to 75 for two.

Showing intent straightaway, Samson started with a four and a six over long-off and hit another maximum over fine-leg, taking on the SRH attack with gusto.

While Samson found the fence at will, Padikkal too got into the groove and began attacking in the 12th over when he pulled T Natarajan for a maximum.

Samson was again brutal on Sundar, striking him for two successive sixes in the 16th over as RR marched on.

New Zealand fast&nbsp;bowler Trent Boult remarked that the recent T20 World Cup final loss to Australia is still hurting a little bit even&nbsp;after giving it some thought.

He went on to say that the Kiwi squad made themselves proud with their efforts throughout the competition, but that the eight-wicket loss to Australia in the final in Dubai on November 14 wounded them. Boult was the only New Zealand bowler to produce a noteworthy effort with the ball, taking 2/18 in four overs.

"I have had time to process the result. It still hurts a little bit to swallow the result but life goes on. We quickly went back to the hotel, packed our bags and were on a chartered flight to Jaipur to play the series against India. It`s all good," said Boult in a video interview to New Zealand Cricket (NZC). 
 
New Zealand are&nbsp;in India for three Twenty20 Internationals, followed by two Tests. Boult believes that facing India in their own home will be a difficult challenge.

"The World Cup final was a pretty big stage but probably second to that is playing India in India. I think boys are definitely looking forward to the series and we have played some good cricket. Hopefully, the things about adjusting, adapting to it and reading the wicket is going to be a big play over here as well."

"Everyone obviously looks forward to the New Zealand summer. There's a bit of cricket coming up. I am looking forward to getting the red ball back in my hand when I get a chance. But it has been a good 12 or so weeks away already. So, I`m just looking forward to refreshing a little bit and then taking on the New Zealand summer." 
 
When asked about New Zealand's performance in the event, Boult said,&nbsp;"I think the boys did themselves proud with what we achieved in this tournament. You get to the final stages there, won against England and get into that last dance. But unfortunately, we came out on the wrong side of the result. The boys are hurting but hopefully next time we can go all the way, pretty much."

He&nbsp;thought&nbsp;the&nbsp;team's&nbsp;ability&nbsp;to&nbsp;read&nbsp;and&nbsp;adapt&nbsp;to&nbsp;the&nbsp;UAE&nbsp;wickets&nbsp;came&nbsp;in&nbsp;helpful.&nbsp;

"It has always been the strength of this side to quickly read the wicket and what balls will be successful and what scores are going to be challenging. The conditions here are very far and a bit different than the pitches that we were used to. But the boys were impressive. So, overall, a very pleasing job but bit of a shame to be on the wrong side of the result. No doubt about it."
