New voices should be applauded and given a platform, said actor Manoj Bajpayee on Friday as he lamented the lack of mentorship provided by the streaming services to independent filmmakers.

At a panel discussion at the 54th International Film Festival of India (IFFI) here, the actor said when the streaming services started in India, they backed independent storytellers but now these platforms are giving priority to blockbuster films.

“One thing that all streaming services started with initially was that they were making independent cinema but that got lost somewhere. For some reason, it has gone down completely and now we see blockbuster films making their way big time."

“But the independent cinema movement that started and was getting such mentorship from the OTT platforms, is gone. And that is a very sad development,” Bajpayee said.

If there is no independent cinema, then the Indian film industry will not evolve, he stressed.

"We will only grow in terms of money but we will not grow as creative people. New voices should be applauded and given platforms. I think they were doing so beautifully well earlier," he added.

Bajpayee said it is unimaginable for independent films to get funding at par with tentpoles such as Jawan, Pathaan or Tiger 3.

"It can't stand a chance and if you're giving shows at 9 am for an independent film, it will never do well. It will fall flat. I really request from this stage to all these platforms that they should revive that mentorship," the actor said.

Raj Nidimoru and Krishna DK, the co-creators of Bajpayee's popular OTT series The Family Man, agreed with Bajpayee.

"Earlier, all these films were directly made or shown on OTT. Now it is a clause that it has to play in theatres and only then we will take it," Nidimoru said.

Krishna added, "This is happening worldwide right now. There used to be a time when there would be a film and then there would be an OTT movie. But The Russo Brothers made The Gray Man for Netflix and it is as big as any theatrical film. So now every film is a big film." Apoorva Bakshi, who backed International Emmy-winning series Delhi Crime and Hunt for Veerappan, said streamers are pouring in resources into making "blockbusters".

"There is no safe home left for independent films and that is happening because a lot of resources are going into the blockbusters. I believe independents help filmmakers to become better show creators and directors," she said.

Raj said being an independent filmmaker taught him and Krishna to be self-sufficient.

"We didn't know anyone in the industry, we taught ourselves. So this whole package of indie cinema gave us the confidence that wherever you give us, we can make a film, irrespective of the budget and the stars. I think that's what still keeps us going," he said.

Krishna believes independent filmmaking helps in coming to terms with the fact that "you won't get everything you want".

"You kind of adapt then, I think 'jugaad' is the word. You somehow get the job done and that's how we started making films... Then this OTT and series concept came to India. We were fans of the shows from the West but nobody knew how to make a series in India. I think that jugaad mentality and idea of going back and figuring out how it is done, that came in handy," he added.

The 54th edition of IFFI will conclude on November 28.

“I stepped out for an industry party after 19-20 years because it was an industry party and not a group party. Ramesh Taurani is a good person. Over the years, Bollywood parties have become these group parties, and if you don’t belong to a certain group (camp), you aren’t invited. If you are not seen at these parties, it is assumed that you aren’t social, which is wrong. I am not anti-social at all, and I don’t believe in groups.
However, he never decided to work with David after he was left shocked by the director's action. He told the Indian news channel India TV back then, "After I left politics, I told my secretary to keep the phone speaker on, so that I could listen to what he (David Dhawan) was saying. I heard David saying, 'Chi-Chi (Govinda's nickname) is questioning a lot.' He was telling my secretary, 'I do not want to work with Govinda anymore. Tell him to do some small bit roles.' This shocked me and I decided never to work with him. After 4-5 months, I again rang him up just to find out if he would give me a guest appearance in his film. He then never rang me back. I am revealing this in public after so many years. I think he is under somebody's influence. I do not think he is that same David Dhawan who I used to know."
Sources say that Govinda was upset with the director after he started casting Salman Khan, Sanjay Dutt, and other actors in his films.

Govinda and David Dhawan have collaborated on over 17 films, and their slapstick humour made the entire 90s full of laughter. Together, they gave popular hits such as Shola Aur Shabnam, Raja Babu, Jodi No. 1, Coolie No. 1, and Haseena Maan Jaayegi, all the films performed exceptionally well at the box office and earned Govinda the title of 'king of comedy'.

The 2022 award can be cancelled, however, the awards returned to NBC in 2023 on a one-year basis. Earlier this year, the Hollywood Foreign Press Association, the organisation behind the Golden Globes, was dissolved. Eldridge Industries, owned by billionaire investor Todd Boehly, and Dick Clark Productions have purchased the HFPA's Golden Globe assets and will manage the awards in the future. The nominations for next year's Golden Globes are set to be revealed on December 11.

In a candid discussion at the Apple Park campus in Cupertino, K-pop sensation Rosé, a member of the globally acclaimed group BLACKPINK, spoke out on the emotional struggles faced by public figures. The event, organised by First Lady Jill Biden as part of the annual Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation forum, aimed to spotlight mental health awareness.

The conversation touched on the weight of social media presence, with Rosé expressing vulnerability in the face of public scrutiny. "No matter how hard I work on something, there’s always gonna be somebody who has their own opinion or who enjoys taking control of the narrative," she shared, highlighting the sense of inadequacy exacerbated by the relentless criticism often seen on social platforms.

Acknowledging the importance of discussing these challenges, Rosé emphasised the need to prioritise mental health. "Just as we feed ourselves for better health and fitness, mental health can only be maintained equally — if not more intentionally — as our physical well-being," she remarked.

After lobbying from "Swifties," Rio de Janeiro's Christ the Redeemer statue was lit up to welcome Taylor Swift to Brazil ahead of a concert on Friday as part of her global blockbuster "Eras Tour."

As die-hard fans gathered at the famed statue atop Corcovado mountain and in the square below, the giant monument went dark Thursday night, then was reilluminated wearing a light-projection tribute to Swift's "Junior Jewels" T-shirt, from her video "You Belong With Me."

"Welcome to Brasil," it said -- in English, but using the Portuguese spelling of "Brazil" -- with the names of the country's 27 states scrawled across it.

Fans were ecstatic.

"I'm going to cry. What matters most to me is her seeing it, her smiling, her being happy," said Rafaela Martins Lopes, one of those who flocked to the statue.

The Catholic rector responsible for the Christ the Redeemer statue, Omar Raposo, responded with a challenge Thursday on Instagram: raise 300,000 reais ($60,000) for charity, and he would organize a special message.

The response was so overwhelming it temporarily crashed the fundraising site handling the campaign.

By Friday afternoon, less than 24 hours later, the goal had been met, organizers said.

"Young people like a challenge. So we channeled the fans' energy for good," Raposo said in a statement.

Devil Comet with horns, the colossal, cryovolcanic comet three times the size of Mount Everest, has once again experienced an explosive event as it makes its way towards our planet Earth.

Netflix's acclaimed series The Crown chronicling the reign of Queen Elizabeth II, draws to a close from Thursday, focusing on a subject still highly sensitive to the British monarchy -- the death of Princess Diana.

The sixth and final season of the award-winning but often-criticised show created by Peter Morgan is being released in two parts.

The first five episodes will premiere on Thursday, followed by the final five on December 14, culminating 60 hours of narrative that began in 2016.

The drama covers the late queen's journey from her 1947 marriage to Philip up to the early 2000s introduction of Kate Middleton, the current Princess of Wales.

Tiger 3 Day 4 box office: After massive opening, film records sharp dip in numbers

This season depicts the final weeks of Princess Diana's life, following her tumultuous divorce from the now King Charles III, leading up to her tragic demise on August 31, 1997.

Pursued by paparazzi, the BMW carrying Diana and her lover Dodi Al-Fayed crashed at high speed into a pillar in Paris's Alma tunnel, killing her, Fayed and driver Henri Paul.

The royal family took years to recover after criticism of their reaction to the loss of Diana, whom Tony Blair famously dubbed "the people's princess".

"It's a very sensitive subject because it was such a significant event in the life of the monarchy and the royal family, and because people related to Diana are still very much alive, most notably her now-adult sons William and Harry," royal historian Ed Owens told AFP.

"It's the seminal moment that the series has been building up to since series one. The question remains whether Peter Morgan is a friend or an enemy of the monarchy.

"This series will give us a fuller understanding of whether he thinks it is an institution that has made big mistakes and which needs to modernise. Or whether it's an institution that has managed to modernise successfully since 1997."

- Massive responsibility -

The final season notably recreates Queen Elizabeth's rare live televised address from Buckingham Palace on September 5, 1997, paying tribute to Diana and addressing the widespread public grief.

Imelda Staunton, who portrays the monarch in the last two seasons following Claire Foy and Olivia Colman, expressed feeling "a massive responsibility" with this scene.

"It was an incredibly powerful address to the nation which many people remember," the actress said.

"The significance of that was not taken lightly by anyone involved, and I spent a lot of time listening to recordings of the real speech, as I needed to be as accurate as I could be with the extremely sensitive subject matter."

A media figure and celebrity friend, Diana gained global popularity by displaying empathy towards the less fortunate.

She remains a figure of immense admiration beyond the UK, casting a shadow over the image of Charles and his wife Queen Camilla, who has struggled to fully overcome her reputation as a marriage wrecker.

The season is nervously anticipated by those close to royalty -- the family itself has never commented on the series -- while early revelations about Lady Di's portrayal as a ghost have already sparked accusations of disrespect.

This isn't the first time The Crown has faced criticism, especially as it appeals to Netflix's younger audience who are learning about some events for the first time.

Pedro Pascal in talks to lead Marvel's Fantastic Four as Reed Richards

Over the seasons, it has been accused of suggesting infidelities by the queen and Prince Philip, portraying the current king as an unfaithful husband and even suggesting Charles's desire for his mother's abdication in the 1990s.

Last year, Netflix added a disclaimer clarifying the show was a work of fiction.

Annie Sulzberger, who led the documentary research for the series, acknowledged the sensitivity surrounding Diana in an interview with The New York Times.

"People who lived through Diana's death feel a sense of ownership over that history, a sense of participation, which can colour their perception of it," she said.

"With recent history, you're constantly battling with people's intimate and personal perspectives."

Tiger 3 Day 4 box office: After massive opening, film records sharp dip in numbers This season depicts the final weeks of Princess Diana's life, following her tumultuous divorce from the now King Charles III, leading up to her tragic demise on August 31, 1997. Or whether it's an institution that has managed to modernise successfully since 1997." - Massive responsibility - The final season notably recreates Queen Elizabeth's rare live televised address from Buckingham Palace on September 5, 1997, paying tribute to Diana and addressing the widespread public grief. Imelda Staunton, who portrays the monarch in the last two seasons following Claire Foy and Olivia Colman, expressed feeling "a massive responsibility" with this scene. "It was an incredibly powerful address to the nation which many people remember," the actress said. "The significance of that was not taken lightly by anyone involved, and I spent a lot of time listening to recordings of the real speech, as I needed to be as accurate as I could be with the extremely sensitive subject matter." A media figure and celebrity friend, Diana gained global popularity by displaying empathy towards the less fortunate. Pedro Pascal in talks to lead Marvel's Fantastic Four as Reed Richards Over the seasons, it has been accused of suggesting infidelities by the queen and Prince Philip, portraying the current king as an unfaithful husband and even suggesting Charles's desire for his mother's abdication in the 1990s.

End of an era: The Crown concludes with Diana's death

Alia Bhatt and Ranbir Kapoor's daughter Raha turned one on November 6. Over the past year, the couple have kept their baby out of the public eye and have refrained from sharing her pictures. However, some photos of Raha managed their way into social media, and talking about the same, Alia revealed that she broke down when she saw her daughter's face online.

Alia recently appeared on the episode of Koffee With Karan S8 along with Kareena Kapoor, who has never hidden her babies from the media.

During his appearance, host Karan asks, “I think she (Alia) is very fiercely protective of her (Raha). Why is that?”

To this, Alia replied, “At that time I remember basically I felt like a picture came out of hers, and it was our schedule in Kashmir for Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani. It was a very, very difficult schedule for me because it was my first time shooting after giving birth. And no matter what anybody says, it takes really long for your body to bounce back.”

"I wasn't sleeping at night, I was feeding, I was rushing in between shoots. So I called Ranbir and I told him I was finding it very difficult so he pushed his work and said 'don't worry, I'm going to come and pick her up.'

"It was very relaxing for me but it was also the first time I was separating from (Raha) so I felt very guilty. So that guilt carried on and it was just one and a half days later that I travelled back and I saw a photo where the side of her face was kind of visible and I just broke down," the Darlings star said.

Adding that she's just being protective of her loved ones, Alia said, "And I realise I wasn't breaking down just because I didn't want people to see her face. When we meet people Ranbir and I are like please give her your blessings, Raha do namaste, this that. We are proud of our baby. But it was too many emotions put together and I'm so protective of my loved ones that I was just like, oh god I don't want that conversation. But I realise I was just exhausted and overwhelmed at that time.''
Alia on revealing daughter Raha's face

Talking about her daughter, Alia said that she doesn't want to hide her face and is proud of her. During her recent appearance at the HT Summit, Alia was asked whether she and Ranbir were going to reveal their daughter's face anytime soon.

She said, “I don’t want it to seem like ‘Oh I am hiding my daughter’s face.’ I am proud of her. We are proud of our baby. The intention with which it came out initially was that we are new parents, we don’t know how we feel about her face being splashed all over Instagram. She is barely a year old. We don’t find the need for her to be a moment of paparazzi. She is still too little.”

Alia said that she would reveal the face of Raha when she and Ranbir were both ready.

And it could be anytime.

“It is not like we will never let anyone see her face. I think we need to get more comfortable with this parenting thing and come to a comfortable decision that ‘Ok, now we are ready.’ Whenever that moment comes. It could be now, it could be in the near future, it could be whenever. Whenever we are ready, it will happen without giving too much pressure,'' Alia said earlier.
