James Gunn almost set the Suicide Squad gang against Superman.

Gunn revealed in a new interview with Script Apart, that there was a ''time when I thought The Suicide Squad should fight Superman."

Rather than choosing him as the movie antagonist, Gunn opted for Starro against the gang of dangerous supervillains.

“He’s a character I love from the comics,” he explained. “I think he’s a perfect comic book character because he’s absolutely ludicrous but also very scary in his own way. What he does is scary.”

“He used to scare the crap out of me when I was a child, putting those facehuggers on Superman and Batman. So I thought he was one of the major, major DC villains that was probably never going to be put into another movie. And if they did, it’d have been a ‘black cloud’ version of Starro. Not a giant walking starfish, a kaiju that’s bright pink and cerulean blue, this ridiculously big, bright bad guy.”

The filmmaker also noted how Superman’s position in the DC Extended Universe impacted his final decision. “At the time, there were a lot of questions like, ‘Who is Superman in the DCEU? Is this movie outside the DCEU?’, and I just didn’t want to deal with it all that much.” He added.

The movie was well-received by fans and critics alike. Still, the movie did open with low numbers at the box office with a $26.5 million debut in North American theatres. It was very low in comparison to the original 'Suicide Squad', which debuted at $133.6 million.

The movie was released on August 5 and features Margot Robbie, Idris Elba, John Cena, Joel Kinnaman, Sylvester Stallone, Viola Davis, Jai Courtney and Peter Capaldi. The movie follows a group of convicted felons who are on their path to demolishing a Nazi-era laboratory. Along the way, they encounter a giant alien named Starro.

The sound of trumpets filled the air as thousands of people crowded into a small Serbian town late on Friday for the 60th Guca Brass Band Festival, with visitors undeterred by a resurgence of coronavirus cases in the country.

Launched in 1961 when just four bands competed for the Golden Trumpet trophy and only 2,500 visitors attended, the festival is now Serbia`s liveliest traditional music event but, like many events around the world, it was cancelled in 2020 amid the global pandemic.
This year, visitors must show vaccination certificates or a negative COVID-19 test if they want to enter Guca, a small town in the rolling hills of southwestern Serbia.

"The situation is like this everywhere in the world, and we have to learn to live with that, we cannot stop the music, we cannot stop living," Horseco, a visitor from Cuba told Reuters.

Brass bands have a long tradition in Serbia stretching back to a royal decree establishing a military ensemble in 1831, and groups of musicians are present at events spanning births to weddings to funerals.

More than 15 million visitors have come to Guca during the festival`s history, and organisers and local authorities are hoping that despite the health restrictions, sales of tickets and souvenirs, and the taxes and duties paid by restaurateurs can help the local economy rebound.

"Many people are prevented from coming because not all of them can follow prescribed measures for the protection from COVID-19," said Jovan Kovacevic, director of the Culture Centre in Guca.

Serbia has seen a sharp increase in COVID-19 infections in recent weeks, driven by the spread of the highly infectious Delta variant, mostly in the unvaccinated.
The country of around 7 million has recorded 730,222 coronavirus cases since the start of the pandemic, with 7,158 deaths. Around 50% of the population are fully vaccinated.

The deceased American music star, Elvis Presley, would be amazed to learn that he's still loved and remembered even to this day, said his former girlfriend Linda Thompson, who has shared some throwback photos of him to pay tribute. Ahead of the legendary singers 44th death anniversary on August 16, Elvis Week has kicked off at Graceland. His former girlfriend Linda Thompson, who had lived with him at the Memphis mansion from 1972-76, has paid tribute to the late legend on her social media account. The 71-year-old Miss Tennessee model admitted that Elvis would be 'astonished' to learn how much fans still love him to this day. Linda posted pictures of herself with Elvis from the seventies on Instagram and captioned it: “Elvis week has commenced in Memphis. “For the fans - you can look past our three-wheeled vehicle to see how Elvis Presley Blvd. used to look. “Interestingly, there are only two people in history whose birth & death are remembered & commemorated by tens of thousands of people all over the world each & every year… “In a non-Covid year, thousands of people gather at Graceland for a candlelight ceremony on August 16th -the day of Elvis’s death. Festivals are held all over the world on January 8th to celebrate Elvis‘s birth.” View this post on Instagram A post shared by Linda Thompson (@ltlindathompson) ×

Simu Liu, the star of the upcoming Marvel movie 'Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings', is calling out CEO of Disney Bob Chapek for saying the upcoming movie was an “experiment” for the company. Talking about the theatrical window for the upcoming Labor Day weekend release of Marvel’s movie, Chapek called the 45-day frame for the pic before it hits Disney+ “an interesting experiment,” and “another data point” for the studio as it juggles theatrical releases with its streaming service, Deadline reported. Responding to the harsh comment on Marvel’s first Asian superhero movie, Simu Liu, who obviously was not pleased by the comment and responded. Taking to his Instagram, he wrote, “We are not an experiment,” he began. View this post on Instagram A post shared by Simu Liu (刘思慕) (@simuliu) × “We are the underdog; the underestimated.
American rapper Nicki Minaj and her husband, Kenneth Petty, are facing a lawsuit by a woman who accused Petty of rape back in 1994 in New York, global news reports claim.

On Friday, the woman, identified as Jennifer Hough, filed a lawsuit in the U.S. District Court in Eastern New York and alleged that Petty 'intimidated' and 'harassed... not to speak out concerning the rape she experienced at the hands of Defendant Petty'.

The woman also accused Minaj also 'threatened' to recant her legitimate claim that 'Defendant Petty raped her'.

In the court documents, Hough has reportedly accused the couple of 'witness intimidation, intentional infliction of emotional distress, negligent infliction of emotional distress, harassment, assault, battery, sexual assault, and sexual harassment'.

The lawsuit, obtained by a global news organisation, shows a detailed report on how back in September of 1994, when Hough and Petty were both 16 and living in Jamaica, Queens (New York), she ran into him on her way to school when he later held her at knifepoint, led her into a nearby house and raped her.

Petty was arrested that day for first-degree rape and later pleaded guilty to attempted rape, says the same report. He was sentenced to 18 to 54 months in prison.

On February 25 last year, Petty was charged for failing to register as a sex offender, which is a requirement under the 2006 Sex Offender Registration and Notification Act (SORNA).

He was later added to the California Megan’s Law database, which tracks sex offenders in the state of California, where Petty and Minaj reside with their son, whom the rapper gave birth to last year.

The Los Angeles District Attorney’s office announced in March 2020 that the charges were dropped against Petty, but if he were to be convicted of the same felony charge, he would face up to 10 years in prison, which is the statutory maximum.

The New York State department has labelled Petty as a level-two sex offender, meaning it deems him as a moderate risk to reoffend, based on the 1994 attempted rape conviction.

Hough recounts the years in her lawsuit following the alleged rape, claiming she felt “mentally and emotionally destroyed” and moved around a lot out of fear of returning to New York. In 2018, a sudden surge in interest over her identity was generated following Minaj’s viral comments about the case.

In a 2018 Instagram post, Minaj shot back at those who continued to criticize Petty’s allegedly criminal past. “He was 15, she was 16… in a relationship. But go awf Internet.”

In a 2019 episode of Minaj’s Queen Radio show on Apple Music, she told her fans, “You’ve gotta cover your husband in prayer” before saying that he was wrongfully accused of rape by Hough, whom she said wrote a letter recanting her statement, which Hough denies.

“But white is right,” Minaj said later on in the episode. But the court filing states that Hough is biracial.

In 2020, shortly after Petty was arrested for failing to register as a sex offender, the suit alleges that Hough’s brother told her over the phone that “two people reached out to a family member stating an offer of $500,000.00 from Defendant Minaj if Plaintiff wrote a letter recanting her rape claim against Defendant Petty.”

Hough’s childhood friend, who acted as a liasion between the married couple and Hough, also presented another $20,000 from Minaj, who proposed to “send birthday videos to Plaintiff’s Daughter for her sweet 16 as a bonus” if she would sign an already prepared recanted statement.

“Plaintiff has not worked since May of 2020 due to severe depression, paranoia, constant moving, harassment, and threats from the Defendants and their associates. She is currently living in isolation out of fear of retaliation,” the lawsuit reportedly states.

American singer Tony Bennett is stepping back from concert performances at the age of 95, his son said on Friday.

Bennett, who was diagnosed with Alzheimer`s disease in 2016, cancelled a run of concerts planned for later this year and won`t be returning to touring, his manager son Danny Bennett told Variety in an interview.

"There won`t be any additional concerts," Danny Bennett said. "This was a hard decision for us to make, as he is a capable performer. This is, however, doctors` orders... We`re not worried about him being able to sing. We are worried, from a physical stand point, about human nature. Tony's 95," he said.
Bennett, best known for his signature ballad 'I Left My Heart in San Francisco,' made his two last live performances last week at Radio City Music Hall in New York with Lady Gaga in a show called 'One Last Time.'

The duo recorded a second album of classic duets between 2018 and 2020 that will be released in October. A video showing them recording the single "I Get a Kick Out of You" was released last week and showed the 18-time Grammy Award winner in good form.

"He has short-term memory loss. That, however, does not mean that he doesn`t still have all this stored up inside of him. He doesn`t use a Teleprompter. He never misses a line. He hits that stage, and goes," his son said of the Radio City concerts.

"Tony may not remember every part of doing that show. But, when he stepped to the side of the stage, the first thing he told me was: `I love being a singer.`"
But, when he stepped to the side of the stage, the first thing he told me was: `I love being a singer.`" Bennett started his career in the 1950s after being discovered by comedian Bob Hope.

Broadway superstar Laura Osnes has been let go from a Hamptons show because she refused to be vaccinated against COVID-19.

According to Page Six, Osnes, who shot to fame when she won the talent search show 'Grease: You're the One That I Want!' in 2008, and went on to have a heavyweight Broadway career, was set to perform in front of a star-studded audience for a one-night production of 'Crazy For You' at the Guild Hall in East Hampton on August 29. But the theatre has told the outlet that it requires staff and performers to be vaccinated, or submit a negative COVID test.

Insiders additionally told that when her co-star, Tony Yazbeck, pressed her on the matter because he said "he has two little kids at home."That is when the two-time Tony-nominee Osnes, who also starred in the title role of the Broadway adaptation of `Cinderella` from 2013 to 2014, revealed that she hadn`t been vaccinated, and announced that she doesn`t trust the jabs.

As per Page Six, she immediately got the hook and was replaced by Sierra Boggess, who played Ariel in the Broadway adaptation of the "Little Mermaid."The night of music from the 1992 Broadway production is being directed and choreographed by Susan Stroman, who won a Tony for choreographing the original. "We have a requirement now along the lines of what Actors` Equity is requiring, and what Broadway is requiring, for performances," the theatre`s artistic director, Josh Gladstone, told Page Six when reached for comment.

He added, So yes -- we`re very excited with the cast that we have, and we`re delighted Susan has put together a beautiful evening. We`re sorry not to have Laura on this, and we will look forward to working with Laura again. We are concerned about maintaining the safety of our staff and our audiences."However, a representative for Guild Hall then subsequently clarified, "The policy of Guild Hall is that performers have the option to provide proof of full vaccination or a recent negative COVID test result." The representative confirmed Osnes exited the show but didn`t comment on why she leave. Returning Broadway shows will require audiences, performers, and backstage staff to show proof of vaccination, according to The Broadway League.

In a recent interview with comedian-actor Kevin Hart, Diaz spoke about her life in showbiz and what led her to take a step back from the glamourous world of making movies.

“When you do something at a really high level for a long period of time… you’re the person who’s the talent… all parts of you that isn’t that has to sort of be handed off to other people,” she reportedly said.

She went on to explain that all she ever wanted was to be able to manage her life. "For me, I just really wanted to make my life manageable by me. My routine in a day is literally what I can manage to do by myself. It’s the best feeling.”

Diaz’s last acting job was in the 2014 remake of 'Annie', where she essayed the role of Miss Hannigan.

The actress had also reflected about retiring from acting during another discussion with Gwyneth Paltrow.

“I got a peace in my soul because I finally was taking care of myself. There’s a lot of energy coming at you at all times when you’re really visible as an actor and doing press and putting yourself out there. And I’m sensitive to energy... That’s my job. There’s lots of things I had to iron out and a lot of relationships I had to repair. A lot of relationships I had to build, that I was absent in my life,” she had said at the time.

"Something special is about to happen. We finally have someone who has the guts to do it," Fallon said in his introduction.

"I had a lot of thoughts when you sent me that — like, a lot... And the sensible part of my brain, the bit that said, 'You're not a singer, you have no connection to this song, it's of no relevance to anything you're talking about on the show,' said don't do it. But there was another little part of my brain, right? The bit that gets me in trouble that was like, 'But what if you're brilliant? What if it opens up whole new vistas of a career in singing?'," Harington said.

Emma Stone is all set to reprise her role as Cruella.

After long speculations, Stone has officially signed on to star in a 'Cruella' sequel for Disney. The 'La La Land' star's agent Patrick Whitesell had this to say about the agency’s client Stone and her new deal.

“While the media landscape has been disrupted in a meaningful way for all distributors, their creative partners cannot be left on the sidelines to carry a disproportionate amount of the downside without the potential for upside. This agreement demonstrates that there can be an equitable path forward that protects artists and aligns studios’ interests with talent. We are proud to work alongside Emma and Disney, and appreciate the studio’s willingness to recognize her contributions as a creative partner. We are hopeful that this will open the door for more members of the creative community to participate in the success of new platforms.”

News of the sequel first broke in June, few days after the live-action prequel to the Disney animated classic '101 Dalmations' opened in theatres. At the time, the movie director Craig Gillespie and screenwriter Tony McNamara were both expected to return for the new movie.

The much-talked-about movie tells the story of Cruella De Vil, the antagonist of the 1961 animated classic '101 Dalmatians'. The movie is set in 1970s London during the punk rock revolution and follows young grifter Estella (Stone), an ambitious, unfettered, and arguably unhinged designer determined to make a name for herself in the ruthless fashion business.

The events and revelation during the course of the film will see Estella embrace her wicked side and become the raucous, fashionable, and revenge-bent Cruella.

Cruella, due to the pandemic, was released in theatres and on Disney+ streaming service with Premier Access, earning more than $222 million in worldwide ticket sales.

Owing to the ongoing Covid-19 situation, Walt Disney had to release some of its films—including ‘Black Widow’—both in theatres as well as OTT platforms, Disney Chief Bob Chapek said on Thursday.

“These films were conceived during a time when … we certainly didn’t know about COVID. Just like what we’ve done many times before, we’ve found ways to fairly compensate our talent so that, no matter what, everyone feels satisfied,” Chapek reported told trade analysts.

“Both Bob Iger (Chairman, Disney) and I determined this was the right strategy. And, just to reiterate, distribution decisions are made on a film by film basis. We will continue to utilize all options going forward,” the CEO added.
Disney’s other hybrid releases include ‘Cruella’, ‘Raya and the Last Dragon’ and the recently released ‘Jungle Cruise’, starring Dwayne Johnson and Emily Blunt.

Right before the release of his film, Johnson had openly supported the company’s decision to release it in theatres as well as on Disney +.

Scarlett Johansson, one of Hollywood's biggest and top-paid stars, was entitled to a percentage of box office receipts from the much-anticipated Marvel film, ‘Black Widow’, according to a lawsuit filed at Los Angeles Superior Court in July.

"It's no secret that Disney is releasing films like Black Widow directly onto Disney+ to increase subscribers and thereby boost the company's stock price -- and that it's hiding behind Covid-19 as a pretext to do so," said Johansson's attorney John Berlinski in a statement to a global news agency.

"This will surely not be the last case where Hollywood talent stands up to Disney and makes it clear that, whatever the company may pretend, it has a legal obligation to honor its contracts," he added.

A spokesperson for Disney—which owns superhero movie powerhouse Marvel Studios—dismissed the lawsuit, telling the agency in a statement that Disney had not breached any contract and that "there is no merit whatsoever to this filing."

"The lawsuit is especially sad and distressing in its callous disregard for the horrific and prolonged global effects of the Covid-19 pandemic," it had said.

A spokesperson for Disney—which owns superhero movie powerhouse Marvel Studios—dismissed the lawsuit, telling the agency in a statement that Disney had not breached any contract and that "there is no merit whatsoever to this filing." "The lawsuit is especially sad and distressing in its callous disregard for the horrific and prolonged global effects of the Covid-19 pandemic," it had said.

Disney CEO Bob Chapek defends ‘Black Widow’ release format amid Scarlett Johansson lawsuit

Here’s the thing about teen bromance, coming-of-age tales that—despite the recycle-redeliver format that makers have been religiously following, and succeeding at—never loses its sheen: the sheer cuteness of it. Smooches & crushes or not, ‘The Kissing Booth’ crushes at rendering that same (deep) sense of connectivity to its viewers. And maybe that’s why Netflix has renewed it for three films straight. Or, maybe that’s not it.

In a minute-long opening sequence, a chirpy Joey King (as Elle Evans) quickly dives back into the lives of the central characters—Jacob Elordi as Noah, Joel Courtney as Lee and of course, the life of the franchise, Joey King herself as Elle—and brings the loyalists up to speed. Call it dependence on the relatability factor that this munchkin of a film has been riding on for so long, but much hasn’t really changed in director Vince Marcello’s universe—Noah is just as chiseled and chummy, Lee’s forever drunk-on-love persona lingers on and Elle is still a people’s person. And, yes, the very handsome Marco (Taylor Zakhar Perez) is very much hankering after his unrequited love interest.

So, what makes this latest installment a raging success, you may ask. The answer is, in fact, a counter question: why does the extension of a piece of visual literature have to be different from its predecessor in order to warm the cockles of your heart?

Staying true to the game, Vince Marcello doles out one Gen Z problem after another—which college is Elle going to choose? Will long distance work out for Rachel and Lee? And, what happens when Elle’s dad decides to find love? The helmer, tactfully, divides the movie into two parts—before interval, chaos and commotion, climax, full-circle solutions laced with nostalgia. While the first segment of this book adaptation may seem tepid and a tad bit all over the place, the second one more than makes up for the unevenness of how ‘The Kissing Booth 3’ kicks off.

Speaking of memories and nostalgia, two scenes are sure to resonate the most: first being an emotional Lee stroking the walls of his family beach home—up for sale, again, nostalgia—with paint and wells up while applying paint over the childhood height chart (that he had shared with Elle), and the other being when Elle pines for Noah to turn around for that stamp of confirmation: all is not lost between them, after all.

Some youth-centric films produce prodigies, others just faulty humans. This one is that.

What Lana Condor is to ‘To All The Boys’—again, a Netflix brainchild—Joey King is to ‘The Kissing Booth’ franchise: these names will stay synonymous with the genre, no matter who replaces them in the years to come. Likewise, Jacob Elordi’s restrained machismo and Joel Courtney’s boyish charm are meant to stick. It is unfair that Mrs. Flynn (Molly Ringwald), Elle’s Dad (Stephen Jennings) did not get a sizeable amount of screen space for their developing character tracks, but we, the viewers, will make do. Also, Maisie Richardson-Sellers as gorgeous arm candy Chloe loses the limelight between fights, insecurity-laden subtexts and stronger, more rounded characters.

‘The Kissing Booth 3’ thrives on the mushiness of the people that it brings into your lives, and dilemmas they dodge along the way. Most certainly, it is one of those popular franchises that don’t need a substantial growth in terms of plotline for its viewers to like what it has to offer. One eye blink, one flick of hair—“Goodbye Summer” song in the background—and we are sold.

You are not sad that the makers are pulling the curtains on this one, you are sad that you won’t get to witness them grow old together.

The Kissing Booth 3 review: If hearts could somersault, this would be it

A cheating case has been filed against Shilpa Shetty’s wellness centre in Uttar Pradesh recently.

DK Thakur, Lucknow Police Commissioner, confirmed the same in a statement, “A cheating case was filed against the managing director and director of IOSIS wellness centre by a person from Lucknow for cheating in a franchisee deal. It was found that Shilpa Shetty is the chairperson of the company so we have now served a notice, which was handed over personally at her residence and she has been asked to explain her side of the story in the case.”

However, Shilpa Shetty’s business partner, Kiran Bawa, has posted on social media that the actress and her mother—Sunanda Shetty—are no longer a part of her wellness spa and that she’s the former chairman of the company.

Bawa wrote, “l am addressing this post as a responsible person, being the chairperson of IOSIS Spa & Wellness Private Limited and therefore request people to please verify and confirm facts before posting and sharing it on social media or such other platforms. Ms Shilpa Shetty and her mother Ms Sunanda Shetty has no connection with IOSIS. We parted ways amicably long ago.”

Shilpa Shetty’s husband—Raj Kundra—is meanwhile embroiled in a pornography case and was arrested on July 18.

Kundra has reportedly filed multiple bail applications, stating that there is no material evidence against him, but all of those were opposed by the police.

Since Kundra is a British citizen, the police fear that he may flee the country if bail is granted to him. They also allege that he will continue to make pornographic videos if he’s let out on bail.

Amazon Studios said on Friday the second season of its multi-million dollar 'Lord of the Rings' television series will be filmed in the United Kingdom, moving fictional 'Middle Earth' out of New Zealand for the first time.
New Zealand's rolling mountains, meadows and forests were made famous as the backdrop for the 'The Lord of the Rings' and the 'Hobbit' film trilogies shot in the country by Oscar-winning director Peter Jackson.
The filming of Amazon's multi-million dollar TV series of the epic fantasy is currently underway in New Zealand, but the studio plans to move filming of the second season to Britain, Amazon said in a statement.

"The shift from New Zealand to the UK aligns with the studio`s strategy of expanding its production footprint and investing in studio space across the UK, with many of Amazon Studios` tentpole series and films already calling the UK home," Amazon said. The New Zealand government said it was told of the move yesterday and was disappointed at the decision.

"Amazon Studios advised that post-production work on Season One will continue in New Zealand till June 2022," Economic Development Minister Stuart Nash said in a statement.

Amazon said pre-production on Season Two will begin concurrently in the UK next year. The TV version of 'The Lord of the Rings' is scheduled to launch in September 2022, Amazon Studios said earlier this month.

Amazon is spending about $465 million filming the first season of the show, according to the New Zealand government. Nash said an extra 5% incentive offered by New Zealand`s Screen Production Grant in addition to a 20% grant the production already qualifies for would be withdrawn. Amazon said it would not pursue the 5% financial uplift.
Amazon Studios is expected to produce five seasons of the show, making it one of the most expensive TV series ever. Amazon has said the first season will be available in more than 240 nations, with new episodes released weekly.
