<p>Per the latest reports, the selection committee will rest the seniors and the head coach, Rahul Dravid, for this series. In his absence, Dravid’s former teammate and friend, VVS Laxman – the NCA head, will coach the new-look Indian Team.</p>

<p>Every time Dravid is granted rest, Laxman has filled in his shoes. The last time Laxman coached an Indian Team was during the Asian Games 2023 campaign, where they won the gold medal. Before that, Laxman was in charge during the Ireland T20Is, which marked the return of Jasprit Bumrah.</p>

<p>The Indian Team continued to dominate at home as they crushed Australia by 99 runs in a rain-hit match to win the second ODI in Indore on Sunday. With this win, they clinched the three-match ODI series 2-0. Twin tons from Shubman Gill and Shreyas Iyer and a stunning comeback by all-rounders in the second innings propelled India to a massive victory.</p>

<p>India head coach Rahul Dravid has confirmed that under-pressure batsman Suryakumar Yadav is going to play in the first two ODIs against Australia in the upcoming three-match series. The series against Australia starts Friday, September 22 in Mohali.</p>

<p>"We completely back Suryakumar Yadav. We believe he will do well in ODI Cricket and turn things around in ODIs, and will be getting an opportunity in the first two ODIs against Australia," Dravid said ahead of the first ODI.</p>

<p>With the ODI World Cup just a couple of weeks away, the Australia series gives India one final shot at ironing out the last few creases ahead of the quadrennial tournament. India although are in good form, as evident from their triumphant Asia Cup 2023 campaign.&nbsp;</p>

After the SL win, he told the broadcasters, "For the past year or so, he's bowling really really well. He has done a lot of hard work on his rhythm. He went back to the drawing board and worked on it. The ball is coming out nicely and you can see the results in the last 10 ODIs." Kuldeep has been in fine form in ODIs. In 2023, he is India's leading run-getter with as many as 31 scalps and has set the stage on fire in the ongoing continental tournament with nine wickets in India's two Super Four games so far. <p>"You guys know I'm a big fan (of Surya). He plays in a similar manner to how I used to play, but in ODIs, he hasn't cracked it yet," de Villiers said on his YouTube channel. "It is a tiny little mind switch that he's got to make, and he's got all the ability and capabilities that he needs to do that.</p>

<p>"I am very relieved to see SKY in the World Cup squad, I'm very happy about it. I hope he gets this opportunity in this World Cup. Looking at the balance of the Indian squad, he might not start, but a World Cup is a long tournament. So, let's see what happens then,” the Protean added.</p>

Although numbers suggest Sanju has a better ODI average (55.71 in 13 matches) than SKY — who averages a mere 24.33 in 24 outings, Harbhajan opines Suryakumar is a complete player — someone who can hit from the ball one, unlike anyone playing in that position.</p>

<p>"Because the game that Suryakumar has in the middle over[s], I don't think Sanju has that game. Even he goes for big shots from the first ball, but the reliability Suryakumar gives you — he can score big. Sanju, I feel plays the kind of cricket where there is a lot of chances that you get out," Harbhajan added.</p>

<p>Drawing comparisons with stalwarts of the game, Harbhajan said Surya (at number five or six) plays a similar role to Yuvraj Singh and MS Dhoni.</p>

<p>"What he can do at that position, neither Virat [Kohli] can do, nor Sanju or Rohit Sharma. Because what he does it's a difficult job, batting at [No.] 5-6. What [MS] Dhoni has done, what Yuvi [Yuvraj Singh] has done," Bhajji opined.</p>

<h2>SKY is better than any other Indian batter in finding gaps: Harbhajan</h2>

<p>The former off-spinner said instead of batting at the top, where it is easier to score runs, batting in the middle order in Indian conditions is far more difficult. Backing Surya to crack open the bowling attack with his supreme ability to find gaps at will in more challenging conditions makes him the best in business.</p>

<p>"Because batting there is the toughest," Harbhajan said. "Opening in [one-dayers], you know where to score runs. You have a lot of time. But when you go in to bat after 20-25 overs, you need the game to know where you can find gaps to get boundaries, and I don't think anyone in the Indian team can do that better than Suryakumar."</p>

<p>Harbhajan added he would have Suryakumar in the playing XI given his presence creates pressure on the opposition.</p>

<p>"And if it was up to me, I would play him in the team. Because when he is in the team, it increases the pressure on the opposition. Whether he fires or not. Because till the time he is at the crease, there will be pressure because on any day he can play a match-winning innings. He can hit 50-60 runs in 20 balls," Harbhajan concluded.</p>
