According to sources on the board, Watson has demanded a whopping $2 million annually, which is approximately 46 million rupees a month.&nbsp;Earlier, the likes of Mickey Arthur,&nbsp;Richard Pybus, Bob Woolmer, Geoff Lawson, Dav Whatmore and Grant Bradburn have also taken up the coaching role for Pakistan, however, none of them have been paid as much as Watson has demanded.

"He has a young family in Australia and also has commitments in the USA Major League. So, he is weighing his options as the board wants him to spend maximum time in Pakistan helping them also discover and groom talent at the domestic level,"&nbsp;the source said.

DC haven’t enjoyed a great deal of success in recent times and have failed to build on the few successes, having finished runners-up in the IPL 2020. The team lost five consecutive matches at the start of the season which cost them a place in the playoffs despite bringing their campaign back on route.

"Obviously, nothing will happen mid-season but the poor result for two successive seasons will have its share of repercussions when JSW and GMR, the two co-owners sit back and take stock of the season," an IPL source tracking the franchise told PTI.

"So you will certainly not have this jumbo coaching staff next season for sure. There will be a few heads that might roll," the source added.

In the 2023 campaign, DC missed the services of skipper Rishabh Pant, who suffered serious injuries in a car accident in December 2022. In Pant’s absence, legendary Australian cricketer David Warner led the Delhi franchise.

<h2>Agarkar linked with vacant selectors post</h2>

However,&nbsp;not all has gone wrong for Agarkar. The former Mumbai bowling all-rounder could soon apply his trade as the head of the selection committee. Few reports on Thursday, June 29 have linked Agarkar with the vacant post as he is one of the ideal candidates to succeed Chetan Sharma. The former India bowler resigned from his post as the selector at the start of the year and since then no permanent appointment has been made.

If Agarkar does become the head of the selection committee, he will face a stern challenge to put up a team capable of winning the World Cup in October and November.

The team management, however, has backed Prithvi Shaw, who definitely has loads of talent, with DC assistant coach Shane Watson going on to say that players like Shaw don't fall off a tree.

"Prithvi is as skilled as any other batter in India. And everyone has seen that from the time he made his Test debut. The biggest thing for him is just to be able to allow himself to access the skills with no fear of making a mistake or getting out, said Watson.

Speaking on Shaw's latest dismissal for which the batsman has no one but himself to blame, Watson said, "Prithvi came off after sitting for 20 overs until the impact player rules came in. Otherwise he would be out there running around ready to take off and run that a little bit faster."

Notably, Prithvi Shaw had ran himself out on the fourth ball of Delhi innings as they chased 173 against Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB).

Delhi Capitals captain David Warner is the second-highest run-scorer in IPL 2023, but on a contrasting note, his team has failed to register a single win so far. The team's assistant coach and Warner's former teammate, Shane Watson, has come to his aid, saying he'd be blown away if David doesn't set the tournament alight with his performance going ahead.

Speaking on the Grade Cricketer's podcast, Watson said even though Warner slammed his bat in frustration after completing his 43-ball fifty against Mumbai Indians the other night, he still played with a fearless approach.&nbsp;

"The other night, Dave [Warner] definitely had a [much] more fearless mindset with the way he was batting. He was taking the game on… yes, he missed a few balls that in the past he would have hit for four or six, he's mis-hit a couple of balls, but that's all part of Dave just working through the technical side of his game," Watson said.

Watson added that having played alongside Warner for years helps him understand what David's style of play is&nbsp;and what all areas are there that need improvement. The former IPL winner with Chennai Super Kings, Watson said, looking at how nicely Warner has played so far, he will set the tournament on fire.&nbsp;

"That's also part of my role as well, as a coach. Because I know Dave so well from batting with him and playing with him, there's one or two little things that I know he'll get right over the next couple of days, and I'll be blown away if he doesn't - yes, he's been scoring runs, but from a scoring perspective - if he doesn't set the IPL alight from now on, knowing that he's so close.

"He's batting very nicely. He's just mis-hitting some balls that he'd normally hit for four or six. Once you do that, once you start really finding the middle of your bat, then your scoring rate just goes through the roof," Watson added.

Watson elaborated on how David is fighting with different situations in the middle, playing through the innings even when wickets keep falling regularly.

"Warner had been working through" a 'challenging inner battle' in the first three games of the season, grappling with whether or not to take risks as wickets fell at the other end. It goes against a lot of the things that you're taught as a kid growing up," Watson said. "You lose a wicket, you've got to establish a partnership - even in T20 cricket - for five or six balls.

"But then, if you do that and you keep losing wickets after five or six balls before you know it, you're three overs down, and you've just been rotating ones to try and build a partnership. Dave was just working through that himself in the first few games," the former right-handed batter said.

Meanwhile, during the game against Rajasthan Royals, Warner completed 6000 IPL runs, and Watson feels David, over the past many years, has been a top performer in the league.

"His strike rate across his career in the IPL is nearly 140. He's been a great player in the IPL for a long period," Watson on Warner.

Delhi will next face Royal Challengers Bangalore on April 15th in an afternoon game.

Lauding him for his incredible consistency, former Australia all-rounder Shane Watson called Kohli a 'freak' and said his numbers in the T20 World Cup are 'ridiculous'. Watson said he was unable to wrap his around Kohli's numbers despite T20s being a high-risk, high-reward format for batters.

"Over 1000 runs in T20 World Cups at an average of over 80, I am not able to get my head around this. T20 cricket is a high-risk game, high-risk batting and to think that he can do it at the biggest tournament, averaging so much and winning so many games for his countryâ€¦ he is a freak and those statistics are super freakish. "The player I would put in if Jasprit’s not available is Mohammad Siraj, because of the firepower he presents," Watson said on the ICC Review.&nbsp;

"Without Bumrah, that’s the one thing India won’t necessarily have, which is vital on Australian wickets on the bigger grounds with the pace and bounce.

"Siraj is great with the brand new ball. He is fast, he swings the ball away but also his defensive skills are pretty good. And he’s got better over the last couple of years, with what we’ve seen in the IPL. So, for me he’s probably going to be the one who is going to have the most impact," he added.

Siraj has been a vital cog in the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) pace attack over the years but had a disappointing campaign in the 2022 season where he managed only nine wickets in 15 matches. When a youngster&nbsp;comes into a team, he, or she,&nbsp;always wants to make a mark and impress the captain coach. But if they back and&nbsp;trust your abilities, your work is done. You then&nbsp;tend to enjoy the process.&nbsp;

It's not like Delhi depends or relies on me in one particular department. I want to contribute in any way possible and in every department. Be it batting, bowling, or fielding. The team management has trusted me in different situations and in varied roles. That is a big confidence booster in itself. I've bowled in powerplays or slog overs. If early wickets have fallen, I often get promoted or sometimes also play the role of a slogger. Overall, whenever and wherever the team needs me, I am there (smiles).

He further opined, ''The incredible skill that Shane Warne had was seeing what people's roles were and then tapping into that role. For me, that was why he was an incredible leader, because he knew how to tap into a player's best version. He believed in the players, knew their skill set and where they fit in. For me, that's why Rajasthan did so well in the first season. He pulled all these from different cultures and different phases of their careers and led from the front."
