India skipper Rohit Sharma played a brilliant knock of 86 runs off just 63 ball as India beat Pakistan by seven wickets in the ODI World Cup 2023 on October 14 in Ahmedabad. The innings saw Rohit hitting six fours and six sixes and three off them came against Haris Rauf - one of the fastest bowlers in the tournament.

Out of the three sixes Rohit hit to Rauf, two came in one over — one over mid-on on a length ball and second a slice on the off side on a full ball in the ninth over of the innings. Rohit completed his fifty off just 36 balls and was asked by on-field umpire Murray Erasmus that how does he hit such big sixes.

Rohit, being witty, showed the umpires his muscles and the moment was captured during the live broadcast as well. After the game, Sharma's deputy Hardik Pandya asked Rohit about the gesture to which the skipper replied: "The umpire asked me about how am I able to hit such big sixes. Rohit was batting beautifully before being done by a slower one from Shaheen Afridi as he got out with India just 36 runs short of the 192-run target. Talking about his batting, Rohit acknowledged that he missed out on a hundred.

"I just wanted to play my shots. I have been trying to play like this since last couple of years and the wicket was good so I just wanted to play the shots. I know I missed out on a hundred," added Rohit.

During his knock, Rohit hit six sixes, becoming only the third batter in ODI history to cross the 300-six mark. The Indian skipper now has 303 sixes to his name in 246 innings of 254 ODIs he has played, with only West Indies' Chris Gayle (331) and Pakistan's Shahid Afridi (351) ahead of him.&nbsp;

"We pride ourselves on whoever gets the ball doing the job for us. It can be someone's day. It can't be everybody's every day," added Rohit.

The win against Pakistan was India's third in three matches in the 2023 World Cup and the skipper said that it's looking good but they don't want to get too excited.

"All in all it is looking good, and I want to keep my fingers crossed. We don't want to get too excited or get too low, we want to stay balanced."

"I've said it quite a few times now, this was an opposition we wanted to play against because we want to play quality opposition," said Rohit.

"Every opposition we come up against in this tournament is quality and can beat you on any particular day," he concluded.

The Indian skipper was unfortunate to miss out on a hundred as he scored 86 runs in front of 120,000 fans in Ahmedabad. His knock, which contained 6 sixes and 6 fours, set the tone for the Indian team as they coasted to a comprehensive win.

Earlier, Pakistan had a good start to their innings as Imam-ul-Haq (36) and Abdullah Shafique (20) countered the Indian bowling attack in the first powerplay. However, India came good in the second powerplay as they scalped skipper Babar Azam (50) and Mohammad Rizwan (49). Pakistan went from 155/2 to 191 all out.

Only five batters scored in double figures for Pakistan with all key bowlers for India coming good with two wickets each. Jasprit Bumrah, Kuldeep Yadav, Hardik Pandya, Mohammed Siraj, and Ravindra Jadeja, all had two wickets each to dent the Pakistan hopes.

On 1st March 2003, India and Pakistan locked horns at the historic Centurion ground in South Africa with Sourav Ganguly and Waqar Younis leading the respective sides. It was the Pakistan skipper who won the toss and elected to bat first as India held an unprecedented record of winning while batting first. Both teams had&nbsp;big-game players in their side with the likes of Saeed Anwar, Inzamam-ul-Haq, Sachin Tendulkar, Rahul Dravid, and others.

In reply, India started on the front foot as openers Virender Sehwag and Sachin Tendulkar took on the Pakistan bowling attack. The former was dismissed on 21 but took the attack to the opposition while Tendulkar was the architect of India’s dominance with the bat. He hit Shoaib Akhtar for a six over the third man that captured the attention of the world. It is still one of the iconic moments in the history of the World Cup.

However, Tendulkar’s dominance with the bat came to an end when a Shoaib Akhtar delivery surprised him and he was caught off guard on 98. He missed out on a hundred but did his job for the Men in Blue. He along with Mohammed Kaif (35) put on 102 runs for the third wicket while skipper Ganguly was dismissed for a golden duck. Later Rahul Dravid (44) and Yuvraj Singh (50) helped the Indian team to win as they celebrated a famous win. Dravid scored the winning four and was excellent throughout the tournament.

So, it's important for us as a team that we, as I said, should not pay too much attention to what is already over. And, we should also pay attention to the fresh day, the fresh opposition," said Rohit.

Rohit also said that both the team will start evenly and that there's no favorite or underdog in the match.

"Both the teams will start evenly. I don't think there is a favourite or an underdog. Both the teams are equal before they go into the game. It's just about handling the pressure, dictating terms," added the Indian skipper.

Rohit, however, agreed that it's a massive game but they (India) are focussing on playing against the opposition which is quality.

So, we've just got to come against a quality opposition and play good cricket, which we've done in the last two games. And hopefully we can again show some consistency in our performance and play a good game of cricket," said &nbsp;Rohit.

Pakistan skipper Babar Azam, when asked about India's 7-0 streak against them, said that 'are streaks are meant to be broken.'

"All these streaks are made to be broken. God willing, we will try to give our best tomorrow. Anything can happen on the day. I fully believe my team has done well in the first three matches, and will continue doing so in the coming matches," he said.

“Look at his record. He has got seven World Cup hundreds in just 19 innings. The great Sachin Tendulkar scored 6 in 44 innings. Sangakkara had five in 35 innings, and Ponting scored five centuries in 42 innings. So, to get seven centuries so quickly in World Cups is phenomenal,” Akram added.

Rohit’s most recent knock against Afghanistan, a team with perhaps the best spin-bowling attack in the tournament, highlights his supreme ability to take down any attack at will.&nbsp;

He doesn't seem like the Rahul who used to take pressure before, now he looks like he's soaking that pressure, and it can be seen in the result. And because of that, he doesn't even seem like he's going to get out while he is batting. He's getting beaten less. That doesn't mean one doesn't get beaten."

He added, "There seems to be control, he's finding the singles, playing the big shots, he's also using the sweep shots, seems to be having a lot of time while pulling the ball. He has worked a lot on his technique, but most importantly he looks like a much better version of himself than before."
