However, questions will be raised in New Delhi as Pakistan's enhanced imaging capacity with the help of China is a security threat to India.<h2>Possible uses of PRSS-01</h2>It is Pakistan's fourth Earth observational satellite under the URAAN programme. It will be able to produce high-resolution images that will be used in vital tasks like disaster management, such as floods, landslides, and glacier melt; agricultural monitoring, deforestation tracking, and climate resilience planning; urban infrastructure, land-use surveys, and transportation mapping. Pakistan's Space and Upper Atmosphere Research Commission (SUPARCO), in collaboration with Indonesia-based Microsat China and state-owned China Electronics Technology Group Corporation (CETC), has achieved this feat. The satellite is supposed to enhance Pakistan's capability to respond to natural disasters. It also marks another milestone in the ever-enhancing cooperation in aerospace technology between China and Pakistan. However, questions will be raised in New Delhi as Pakistan's enhanced imaging capacity with the help of China is a security threat to India. Possible uses of PRSS-01 It is Pakistan's fourth Earth observational satellite under the URAAN programme. It will be able to produce high-resolution images that will be used in vital tasks like disaster management, such as floods, landslides, and glacier melt; agricultural monitoring, deforestation tracking, and climate resilience planning; urban infrastructure, land-use surveys, and transportation mapping. This satellite is expected to bring the environmental monitoring capacity of Pakistan close to the level of developed nations. Before PRSS-01, Pakistan had other satellites like Badr Satellite Series (Badr-A, Badr-B) for low Earth orbit, PakTES-1A. Why PRSS-01 should concern India Even though touted for civilian utility, PRSS-01 has the capability to capture high-resolution images from approximately 1 m or better. Earlier, Pakistan had installed the PakTES-1A, which had very low-resolution images from 2.5-5 meters. This makes PRSS-01 a significant improvement, making it detailed enough for surveillance of military bases, radar installations, troops and vehicle movement. Even though no clear definition of a data sharing agreement between China and Pakistan is reported, but being built and launched using Chinese infrastructure, China might possibly retain the visuals from the satellite. Thus, making sensitive regions like Kashmir, Rajasthan, and Arunachal Pradesh more vulnerable. India does possess better satellite capabilities with a plethora of options like RISAT series, Cartosat Series, EMISAT, GSAT & GSAT-7 Series, and Hyperspectral & Infrared imaging instruments. Some of these are dedicated to strategic and border monitoring. Thus making it capable of day/night, all weather, ultra high resolution monitoring. Honour killings in Pakistan Cases of honour killings have increased in Pakistan, specially in the past two years. According to Sustainable Social Development Organisation (SSDO), an Islamabad-based independent organisation, more than 32,000 cases of gender-based violence were reported nationwide in 2024, including 547 instances of “honour killings” – 32 of them in Balochistan and only one resulting in a conviction. Rights activist Sammi Deen Baloch, also a member of a Baloch women’s rights group, said killing of women has become “a matter of routine” in the province. “In Balochistan, women are murdered for love, disappeared for protest, and buried under layers of tribal authority and state-backed silence. These are not isolated tragedies. They are the cost of a system designed to keep Balochistan obedient, and its women expendable,” Al Jazeera quoted her saying.

More than 200 people have died in Pakistan, including nearly 100 children, since the onset of the monsoon in late June, Geo TV reported on Saturday, citing the country's National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA). Referring to the official data, Geo TV confirmed 123 total deaths in Pakistan's Punjab, followed by 40 deaths in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, 21 in Sindh, 16 in Balochistan, 1 in Islamabad, and 1 in Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir.&nbsp;Several factors were cited for the death of reason during the monsoon. At least 118 people lost their lives due to the collapse of houses, and 30 due to flash floods, while others lost their lives to drowning, electrocution, lightning strikes, and landslides. In addition, rains have injured more than 560 people, including 182 children, Geo TV reported.&nbsp;As per the report, Rawalpindi witnessed flash floods that swept through homes, streets, and markets, submerging entire neighbourhoods. Floods also prompted the water level to rise dangerously, resulting in some areas reaching rooftops, forcing residents to leave their belongings behind and flee.&nbsp;Additionally, Faisalabad has also experienced major damage, resulting in 11 deaths and 60 injuries in 33 incidents over just two days. At least 32 roads in Chakwal were washed away after more than 450 mm of rainfall, Geo TV reported. Along with infrastructure damage, communication links also got affected, and the power supply is yet to be restored in multiple areas of the cities.&nbsp;A recent report by UN News confirmed fears of glacier lake outburst floods in the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Gilgit-Baltistan regions. UN News highlighted how these floods show the potential vulnerability of Pakistan to climate disaster.&nbsp;In 2022, over 1,700 people died and millions were displaced due to monsoon floods.
