India welcomes Pakistan Cricket Team with open arms, 'Babar, Shaheen' chants heard upon arrival - WATCH

After all the drama surrounding the signing of the central contracts over the past three months, the Pakistan players and the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) have come to common ground as the new landmark deal is signed just before the start of the World Cup 2023.

As per the latest reports, the players have agreed to sign a first-of-its-kind deal, with PCB offering a hike, alongside providing them with a share in its revenue.

It has come after the players union ended their silent protest over the same, threatening to boycott endorsing the sponsored logos on their jerseys during the World Cup.

Since the board had not paid them any salary since the previous cycle ended on June 30, the players were also said to be upset with PCB functionalities. The players also denied participating in ICC-related media events (during the CWC) in their revert to the board over payment issues.

Meanwhile, in the new contract signed just ahead of the start of the World Cup, the PCB has offered a three-year deal – rather than the standard 12-month one, with a significant increase in their salaries, alongside the board providing them with a fixed share of revenue they receive from the ICC.

Since their previous contracts ended, Pakistan was involved in the Sri Lanka Tests, Afghanistan ODIs and Asia Cup 2023 and was playing without receiving any retainers or other financial compensation. Although Pakistan players were unlikely to appear in the World Cup without central contracts in their hands, captain Babar Azam didn’t mention anything regarding the same during his pre-departure conference on Tuesday.

The new central contract signing will see category A players receive PKR 4,500,000 (USD 15,590), more than four-fold than the previous year’s numbers. Also, the board had earlier offered category-A players to play in any one league outside of the PSL but agreed to allow all players under contract to play in two regardless of the category.

Share in revenue is a big plus

Outside of players receiving hikes, PCB offering them a fixed share of the revenue is the biggest talking point. After long negotiations, both parties agreed on the same ground of players receiving a 3 per cent share of the revenue amounting to around 1 million (the PCB is set to earn USD 34 million per year from next year as a share of ICC revenue).

The players will receive this share over and above their salaries.

Meanwhile, the Pakistan Team arrived in Hyderabad on Wednesday morning and will New Zealand in their first warm-up tie on Friday, September 29.

Pakistan players-PCB agree on landmark deal; new central contracts signed

Pakistan cricket captain Babar Azam believes bygones are bygones, and it’s time for the team to look forward to winning the World Cup 2023. Speaking to the media before departing for India, Babar addressed almost all issues, saying qualifying for the semis is a small goal as they aim to walk out as winners in this edition. With a strong squad, Babar is confident of his team performing well, including against India in the marquee clash in Ahmedabad on October 14.

"The top four is a small goal for us," Babar said at a pre-departure press conference.

While Pakistan looked like the team to beat at the start of the Asia Cup 2023, they ended up being the last of the four teams in the Super Four stage.

Speaking on what went wrong during the six-team tournament, Babar said as a group, they were doing well until their last two fixtures, and though they failed to deliver, the team has learned from their mistakes and will try not to repeat them during the CWC.

"Before the last two games in the Asia Cup, we were doing really well with the same team. Although we could not deliver the way we could, we have learned from our mistakes, as individuals and as a team. We have discussed all our mistakes as a team with the support staff and put it behind us. Asia Cup was a different tournament, the World Cup is entirely different," Babar added.

Keen on playing well in Ahmedabad

Having not played in front of over 100,000 spectators before, Babar Azam said he looks forward to playing at the Narendra Modi Stadium and vowed to do well under pressure. Perhaps the finest all-format player at this moment, Babar said, "I am excited to play in Ahmedabad as it will be jam-packed."

“I will try my best to perform up to my potential. Whenever you are playing a big tournament, it is a very exciting opportunity. It is a chance to become a hero as every World Cup performance gives you a different kind of confidence. Everyone is at their best during the World Cup, so whenever you perform there, it is an altogether different feeling. No ill-will in dressing room: Pakistan captain Babar Azam slams rumours of rift ahead of CWC '23

The Pakistan Cricket is undergoing a rough time off the pitch. While the players have produced some stunning performances recently to put their country on top in white-ball cricket, issues outside the field have kept everyone discontent with PCB’s functionalities. The latest reports from Pakistan suggest the players are mulling over boycotting wearing jerseys with sponsored logos during the World Cup 2023 in their revert to ongoing tensions with the PCB over new contract signings.

Per a report in Cricket Pakistan, the Men in Green have not received any payments in terms of monthly retainers or match fees from the PCB for the past four months, upsetting the players, who until now were protesting silently against it.

Though the players refrained from taking any action that could lead to added tension in the lead-up to the World Cup 2023, they have now come forward to contemplate the possibility of boycotting wearing jerseys with sponsor logos during the marquee event.

A Pakistani cricketer on the condition of staying anonymous, said they are even willing to play for free for the country but not ready to endorse sponsor logos on their jerseys affiliated with the board, on the account that their salaries are not paid on time.

Reputation at stake

The player also admitted the Pakistan Cricket Team may deny participating in ICC-related media events during the World Cup, putting the board’s and team’s reputation at stake.

"We are willing to represent Pakistan for free, but our question is why we should promote sponsors' logos that are affiliated with the board. Similarly, we may decline to participate in promotional activities and other events. During the World Cup, we won't engage in ICC's commercial promotions and activities either,” an unnamed Pakistan cricketer told Pakistan Cricket.

A Pakistani cricketer on the condition of staying anonymous, said they are even willing to play for free for the country but not ready to endorse sponsor logos on their jerseys affiliated with the board, on the account that their salaries are not paid on time. Reputation at stake The player also admitted the Pakistan Cricket Team may deny participating in ICC-related media events during the World Cup, putting the board’s and team’s reputation at stake. Babar Azam has every quality to set World Cup 2023 on fire: Gautam Gambhir

On Friday (September 22), the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chief selector Inzamam-ul-Haq announced the final squad for Babar Azam-led Men in Green for the upcoming ODI World Cup in India, which kicks off next month in early October. Contrary to reports suggesting Shadab Khan's omission, the white-ball vice-captain has retained his place despite an ordinary run in Asia Cup 2023. The one-time winners' squad comprises three travelling reserves whereas the likes of Hasan Ali, Abdullah Shafique, and leg spinner Usama Mir have been included, with young pacer Naseem Shah being ruled out with injury concerns.

Naseem suffered a shoulder injury during Pakistan's forgettable run in Asia Cup 2023. He was out of Pakistan's last Super Four game, versus Sri Lanka, and is now set to be out of action for a long period. Addressing the press, Inzamam said, "Naseem was injured, he was our main bowler and it was unfortunate. Hasnain has an ankle injury and is out injured and so is Ihsanullah."

On Hasan replacing Naseem, he opined, "If you see how Hasan Ali performed in the LPL, or other performances, he has performed better than most. He is an experienced bowler who has played big mega events for Pakistan and performed well in them. And when Naseem was ruled out, we needed someone who could bowl with the new ball. He bowls well with both old and new ball and is a team man. His presence lends energy to the team."

CWC 2023: Pakistan announce final squad for marquee event in India, Naseem Shah ruled out with injury concerns

Pakistan entered the Asia Cup 2023 edition as the No. 1 ranked ODI side and were off to a solid start. However, their campaign fell apart in the Super Four stage with a heavy defeat versus arch-rivals India, losing by 228 runs, before throwing away a thrilling contest against Sri Lanka by two wickets (DLS method), to bow out of the multi-nation event. With the ODI World Cup to kick off early next month in India, on October 05, Pakistan are under pressure. Captain Babar Azam has also drawn a lot of criticism for falling short in terms of tactics in crunch situations in the Asia Cup. However, he has found the backing of stalwarts such as Javed Miandad and Misbah-ul-Haq.

'Our team is not as bad as it played in the Asia Cup'

Speaking to the media at a match of the 40's Global Cricket Event, both Miandad and Misbah have urged the country's cricket authorities to not panic ahead of the CWC 2023 edition. "Why blame Babar Azam only when the rest of the team didn't perform as well in the Asia Cup matches against India and Sri Lanka," Miandad said.

"Look our team is not as bad as it played in the Asia Cup. It has plenty of potential to do well in the World Cup. The only thing is how quickly our players cope and adjust to playing in Indian conditions before big crowds and in a country where they will encounter some hostility. The sooner this suspense about the final squad is ended the better it is for us in the mega-event," Miandad further asserted.

Meanwhile, former Pakistan captain and coach Misbah pointed out that Pakistan would only do well if everyone in the squad contributes collectively and isn't dependent on a select few (namely captain Babar, Shaheen Shah Afridi and keeper-batter Mohammed Rizwan). In this regard, he opined, "Don't just expect Babar to perform every time. This is not possible. This team has been successful as a collective unit and they must remember that even in India."

Misbah mentioned that now is not the time to raise questions on Babar, who had been entrusted with the role long back. "Now is not the time to talk about his captaincy. He is someone who can be relied upon in the World Cup as a captain and batsman," he stated.

In addition, the 2015 ODI World Cup skipper opened up on the speculations and discussions regarding a divide in the locker room, as well as rumours about a player leaking inside information. He feels all this will only harm the team's cause.

Why blame Babar Azam only? Miandad, Misbah back Pakistan captain for CWC '23 after Asia Cup debacle

A regular in the XI not a long time back, Pakistan's Shadab Khan is now said to get replaced by a newcomer in the side for the showpiece event in India starting October 5. The vice-captain had mediocre outings in the recently-concluded Asia Cup, picking just three wickets as Men in Green crashed out of the tournament in the Super Four stage.

The latest reports emerging from local media suggest chief selector Inzamam-ul-Haq and Captain Babar Azam are contemplating including uncapped Abrar Ahmed as cover for Shadab in the CWC squad.

According to Geo News, Babar Azam is disappointed with the performances of some seniors, with close friend Shadab being one of them.

With Pakistan already facing injury issues, including that of Naseem Shah, who is likely to miss the World Cup due to a shoulder injury, and Haris Rauf, who suffered pain in his side during the Asia Cup, removing Shadab from the scheme of things this close to the marquee event could hurt their momentum.

“During their meeting, the chief selector and skipper also discussed the fitness problems and bad form of the important players,” the report said.

Meanwhile, Abrar - the young spin prodigy, rose to the limelight following his debut against England in the home Test series last December.

Quicker through the air than Shadab, adding some mystery factor to his bowling, Abrar remains an unknown entity for most teams. With 38 wickets in six matches at a strike rate of 51.26, drafting in Abrar could be a risk worth going for.

Vice-captaincy post under threat

Let alone fighting for his place in the starting XI for the World Cup 2023, Shadab Khan’s vice-captaincy position is also said to be under threat. If Shadab gets overlooked, pace-bowling spearhead Shaheen Afridi could be named Babar’s deputy.

The left-arm seamer is part of the most-talked-about bowling trio in today’s cricket, including Naseem Shah and Haris Rauf – two of whom are nursing injuries. In their absence, Pakistan played Mohammed Wasim Jr and Zaman Khan in the do-or-die clash against Sri Lanka, which Pakistan lost by two wickets.

Per the report, all parties concerned will sit across the table with PCB chief Zaka Ashraf to take a call on such topics.

With September 28 as the deadline date for all teams to name their final 15 for the Cricket World Cup, the PCB has around a week to decide on the squad to travel to India.

Shadab Khan’s World Cup place in doubt as selectors keen on drafting in new face for CWC 2023 - Reports

All eyes are now on the upcoming CWC 2023 edition, which gets underway in India on October 05 in Ahmedabad. All the participating teams are working hard to finalise their team combination and keep their players fit, and former cricketers and experts are busy making predictions for the marquee event.

Former Australia stumper Adam Gilchrist has joined the bandwagon and shared his semi-finalists. Gilchrist, part of Australia's 1999, 2003 and 2007 World Cup winning campaigns, feels India, Australia, England and Pakistan will make the top four.

"I think India and Pakistan could feature, Australia and England are another two teams," Gilchrist told the press in a promotional event at Ahmedabad.

Recently, a second-stringed Australian side lost a five-match ODI series (2-3) to host South Africa despite leading 2-0.

Gilchrist, however, isn't concerned and stated, "Australia will learn a lot from their efforts in South Africa when they come to India. They have got three games before the World Cup against India. So, they will have a bit more of a full-strength squad there, that might tell us a bit about where they are at."

He further opined on Adam Zampa -- who was taken to the cleaners versus the Proteas and ended with 10-0-113-0 in the fourth ODI -- and added, "Adam Zampa, in South Africa, was at the receiving end a little bit but it's different conditions out here in India with different pitches and he is a world-class spin bowler, and he has shown that particularly across T20 cricket, and now he gets his chance in the 50-over World Cup. So it's a very knowledgeable group and they are going to have to use all that experience against batting line-ups across the globe and play without fear."

Australia have now shifted their focus to the three ODIs versus hosts India, which kicks off on Friday (September 22) in Mohali. For the upcoming series, the likes of regular captain Pat Cummins, Mitchell Starc, Glenn Maxwell and Steve Smith have returned.

CWC 2023: Team India make the cut as former Aussie stumper Adam Gilchrist predicts semi-finalists

Pakistan cricket has faced its worst nightmare as pacer Naseem Shah is likely to miss the entire World Cup 2023 in India due to a shoulder injury. Following undergoing scans in Dubai, the results appeared to be worse than expected, as it reflects Naseem could be out of action for an extended period, more likely for the remainder of this year. Naseem's injury came at a time when Pakistan cricket found itself in the right space heading into the marquee event.

Pakistan Cricket is said to take a second opinion after initial results are out. In case the secondary results match the initial ones, Naseem will get ruled of the World Cup and the upcoming Test series Down Under and could also remain doubtful for PSL 2024.

Naseem left the field with pain in his right shoulder midway into the 46th over against India during the Super Four clash in Colombo. He sustained an injury to a muscle below his bowling shoulder. Naseem was soon taken for a checkup and took no part in the game and the tournament. The right-arm seamer then flew to Dubai for the scans, the results of which are out and not looking good for Men in Green.

During that game, his fellow seamer Haris Rauf also complained of pain in his sides, getting ruled out earlier. With two of Pakistan’s frontline seamers out with injuries, Captain Babar Azam had no option but to rope the inexperienced pair of Zaman Khan and Mohammad Wasim Jr in the XI for their virtual knockout clash against Sri Lanka.

Their bowling was exposed, as Pakistan failed to defend the revised target (due to DLS) and lost the must-win match against Sri Lanka by two wickets, getting ruled out of the tournament.

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is yet to release an official statement on this and will only come up with one after secondary reports on the scans are out in a few days.

Shoulder injury likely to rule Naseem Shah out of World Cup, remainder of 2023 – Reports

Pakistan captain Babar Azam provided the latest update on the injury status of the pace bowling duo of Naseem Shah and Haris Rauf. Following the nail-biting Super Four clash against Sri Lanka in Colombo, Babar raised concerns over not having a fully-fit pace department at the helm at the start of the Cricket World Cup 2023.

Having lost Naseem Shah to a shoulder injury during the India game in the Super Four and Rauf to pain in his sides in the lead-up to reserve day's play, Babar picked Mohammad Wasim and debutant Zaman Khan in the XI for the virtual knockout game against Sri Lanka, which they lost by two wickets and crashed out of the tournament.

When asked about the return timeline of Naseem and Rauf, Babar said the 20-year-old seamer could be out for an extended layoff, likely missing the 'initial few' games in the World Cup while Rauf is said to be recovering quickly and should be fit in time for Pakistan's CWC opener against the Netherlands on October 6.

Without detailing anyone about their Plan B should the pace duo fail to recover in time for the World Cup opener, Babar told media personnel, "I'll tell you later. Not telling you our Plan B now. But yes, Haris Rauf is not bad. He's just got a little bit of a side strain, but he's recovering before the World Cup."

"Naseem Shah also... they have a couple of miss matches, I don't know [how long] the recovery [is], but in my opinion, Naseem Shah also [will be] in the World Cup later on. But let's see."

Against India in their Super Four clash, Rauf played a little part during the first day's play but didn't return to the field on the reserve day owing to pain in his right side. On the advice of the team physio, Rauf stayed out of action in that game.

Naseem, perhaps the best Pakistan bowler on those two days, injured his shoulder while bowling during the fag end of the innings. He left the field midway, only for part-timer Iftikhar Ahmed to complete his over.

Naseem, 20, has been an injury-prone bowler since his debut, having suffered back and shoulder injuries in his brief career. While the Pakistan team has returned home after losing to Sri Lanka, Naseem is in Dubai undergoing scans on his shoulder.

The PCB, however, is yet to detail about the extent of their injuries by when both can remain available for selection.

Asia Cup 2023: Sri Lanka edge out Pakistan to set up summit clash with India

Sri Lanka and Pakistan produced a thriller in their last Super Four clash of the Asia Cup on Thursday (September 14). Competing with each other for the remaining spot in the tournament final -- with India qualifying on Tuesday (September 12) -- the two Asian giants produced a riveting clash, in a rain-marred contest, where Kusal Mendis' 91 and Charith Asalanka's 49* propelled their side to a two-wicket win.

Opting to bat first, at the R Premadasa Stadium in Colombo, Babar Azam-led Men in Green posted 252 for 7 in a 42-over contest (which was initially a 45-over affair before another rain break reduced it further). Md Rizwan stood tall with an impressive 86 not out, Abdullah Shafique's 52 and Iftikhar Ahmed's 47 took them to a competitive score. In reply, the Lankans ticked the basics and were cruising at 210 for 3 before a flurry of wickets opened the contest and took it to the final over.

Eventually, the Islanders edged past Pakistan on the last ball to set up a final clash with India. With this, Pakistan -- the No. 1 ODI side -- have bowed out of the competition with two successive losses in the Super Four round (having earlier lost to India by 228 runs). After the match, captain Babar said in the post-match presentation, "We just decided to bowl our best overs and asked Shaheen to bowl the second last over and believed in Zaman. Sri Lanka played very well, better cricket than us."

“We have not been up to the mark in the bowling and fielding. That is why we lost the match. In the middle overs, we did not bowl well. That partnership cost us. We started well, ended well, but middle overs were not great. We have lacked that,” Babar added.

Sri Lanka played better cricket: Captain Babar Azam on Pakistan's Asia Cup 2023 elimination

Pakistan Captain Babar Azam admits his side is not feeling the pressure of the high-voltage clash against India in Asia Cup 2023; instead, his team is a step ahead of their opponents for playing more games in Sri Lanka lately. While Pakistan began their Asia Cup campaign with a thumping win over Nepal in the opener in Multan, the upcoming clash would be India’s first in this six-team tournament.

As both teams gear up to face off in the marquee clash for a fight to stay on top and eye for the trophy, Babar backs his team to beat the odds and deliver on the D-day. Ahead of the start of this tournament, Pakistan played a two-match Test series in the Island Nation before taking on Afghanistan in the three-match ODIs. A few players were also part of the Lankan Premier League (LPL).

Speaking on the same lines, Babar said spending more time in Sri Lanka helped them get used to the conditions that give them an edge over India.

"We've been here for the last two months," Babar told media personals on Friday.

“We played the Tests [against Sri Lanka] here, then the LPL and then the Afghanistan series. We have a decent knowledge of the conditions, and the wicket looks like a sporting one. I've found Sri Lankan conditions pretty similar to Pakistani and Indian conditions. You take time when you come in to bat, and bowl in the right channels,” the Pakistan Captain added.

‘We want to continue our momentum

With the right team balance and the form on their side, Pakistan is confident of turning the tables against India. Breaking the notion of Pakistan starting the contest against their arch-rivals as the underdogs, Babar said his team is under no pressure and wants to build on the momentum instead.

Babar added he is happy with how his team is progressing and that he banks on the batting order to stand tall against a seam-heavy Indian attack.

"I don't think we feel the pressure of this game," he said.

"We're focusing on what we can control. We want to continue our momentum. The boys are excited. You know India-Pakistan is a high-intensity match, and the fans wait for it for a while. We're similarly excited. We're going to stick with the same top order; but if we don't get a good start, I am encouraged by the middle order stepping up. They're chipping in. We had been lagging in the middle order for a while, but they're responding well now,” Babar added.

Asia Cup 2023: We don’t feel pressure of this game: Pakistan captain Babar Azam ahead of crucial India tie

India and Pakistan are gearing up for the marquee clash in Asia Cup 2023, and former South Africa Captain AB de Villiers feels for the Men in Blue to stay on top, they must keep Pakistan’s captain, Babar Azam quiet during the game. The ranked number one batter in ODIs, Babar hit 151 against Nepal in the previous match and looks in superb touch.

Hailing Pakistan’s modern-day great, de Villiers called Babar one of the best players to grace the game, adding he is a rock in Pakistan’s batting line-up. The Proteas veteran said that given the form Babar is in, if India manages to keep him at bay, they would increase their chances of walking out as winners.

“I love talking about Babar Azam because he is one of the best players we have ever seen play this game, and not just now. He is a huge rock in the Pakistan batting order. If India wants to keep Pakistan quiet, this is the guy to dismiss early because he keeps the batting line-up together and acts as the glue in the Pakistan middle-order,” de Villiers said, as quoted by the Indian Express.

Being the captain of the top-ranked ODI side in the world, Babar completed his 19th One-Day against Nepal and became the quickest to do so. While he hasn’t played too many ODIs against India, given how less both countries play (only during ICC-related events and in the Asia Cup), Babar remains the threat for the seam-heavy Indian bowling attack.

The current edition is being held in the 50-over format for the ODI World Cup and is also taking place in two countries, for the first time ever, including Sri Lanka. The Islanders came into the picture after India's reluctance to travel to Pakistan, the original hosts, due to their strained political relations. Would've been good if Asia Cup 2023 was held entirely in Pakistan, says Babar Azam ahead of Nepal tie

Former Indian cricketer Mohammed Kaif stated that Pakistan pacers will feel the heat when they come up against Virat Kohli in the forthcoming India-Pakistan group-stage clash in the Asia Cup. The continental tournament got underway on Wednesday (August 30) in Multan, Pakistan with Babar Azam & Co. locking horns with Nepal. The seven-time winners India will kick off their campaign versus arch-rivals Pakistan on September 02 in Sri Lanka, with the competition being jointly held by the two Asian giants.

Ahead of Rohit Sharma & Co.'s tournament-opener versus their Asian neighbours, Kaif recalled Kohli's masterclass (82 not out) during the last Indo-Pak battle which took place during the initial stage of the 2022 T20 World Cup, in Australia. Back then, India was on the mat chasing 160 at the MCG, Melbourne and struggling at 31 for 4 before a match-winning 113-run fifth-wicket stand between Kohli and Hardik Pandya (40) revived the run-chase. In the end overs, the former captain took over to guide his side to a memorable four-wicket win on a last-ball thriller.

'Pakistan will be wary of Virat Kohli and know what a big wicket he is'

Thus, Kaif feels Kohli will put some pressure on the Shaheen Afridi-led Pakistani pacers in the upcoming clash in Kandy. Speaking to Star Sports, he said, "Kohli's performance in Australia at the T20 World Cup, against Pakistan, he played magnificently. And he is a brilliant batsman when it comes to playing against Pakistan. He takes full responsibility and is a chase master. The form that he had in that World Cup was because of his performances in the Asia Cup (2022), starting from that century he hit against Afghanistan."

He further opined, "Those memories will still linger in the minds of the Pakistani bowlers. They will be wary of Kohli and know what a big wicket he is. They will know that if they get him out, the match becomes a lot easier. But the form he is in, the pressure will always be on the bowlers.

"And the fact that he has played the Pakistani bowlers in their last match at the T20 World Cup, he will know how every Pakistani bowler bowls, whether it is Naseem Shah, Shaheen Shah Afridi, or Haris Rauf. Kohli will know how to play them, he will know what their strengths and weaknesses are. Virat Kohli will be very dangerous against Pakistan," Kaif added.

Kohli has a superb record versus the Men in Green. In the shorter format, the 34-year-old has 536 runs in 13 games at an average of 55.11, including five tons and eight half-centuries.

India, Pakistan and Nepal are placed in Pool A whereas Sri Lanka, Bangladesh and Afghanistan are in the other group in the 50-over competition. Pakistan's foreign ministry to evaluate team's participation in ODI World Cup in India: Spokesperson

Pakistan captain Babar Azam is unfazed by the hype around India vs Pakistan clash at the ICC Men's Cricket World Cup in India later this year. With Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad slated to host the high-octane clash on October 15, Babar feels the mega-event is not about just one game, as the focus for the team would remain to do well against all teams and stay on top of the points table in the end.

Speaking to the media in Karachi, where most of Pakistan players are attending a camp before flying to Sri Lanka for the two-match Test series, Babar said all the hype around the most-talked-about match at the World Cup wouldn't distract his team from achieving the bigger goal - which is to win the tournament for the first time since 1992.

"We are going to play World Cup and not just going to play against India only," Babar said. "There are eight other teams, and it's not only India, and only if we beat them then we will make it into the final. We are not focused on only one team, we are focused on all other teams in the tournament. Our plan is that we have to play well against all of them and win against them."

The final schedule is already out, with Pakistan starting their campaign against two qualifying teams - the Netherlands on October 6 and Sri Lanka on October 12, both in Hyderabad. Following that, the big clash against host India will get underway in Ahmedabad.

Pakistan's remaining six matches will take place in cities like Bengaluru (vs Australia on October 20 and New Zealand on November 4), Chennai (vs Afghanistan on October 23 and against South Africa on October 27) and at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata (against Bangladesh on October 31 and England on November 12).

'I aspire to win in every country'

Babar said: "In our thought, wherever the cricket will be played, wherever the matches are, we are going to play there. Because as professionals that is what we do, you have to be ready for everything. You prepare yourself for different conditions and in every environment and that is what we call a challenge, and you take it to live up to it.

"Me, as a player and captain, I aspire to score runs in every country, dominate and win Pakistan games. So this is all we have in mind and not only that we're going to play against one team."

Pakistan's latest assignment is against Sri Lanka as both teams will face off in the two-match Test series starting July 16 in Galle.

Our plan is that we have to play well against all of them and win against them." ALSO READ: Raina, Jadeja, Hardik Pandya send birthday greetings to MS Dhoni as Thala turns 42 The final schedule is already out, with Pakistan starting their campaign against two qualifying teams - the Netherlands on October 6 and Sri Lanka on October 12, both in Hyderabad. 'I aspire to win in every country' Babar said: "In our thought, wherever the cricket will be played, wherever the matches are, we are going to play there. Because as professionals that is what we do, you have to be ready for everything. You prepare yourself for different conditions and in every environment and that is what we call a challenge, and you take it to live up to it. "Me, as a player and captain, I aspire to score runs in every country, dominate and win Pakistan games. So this is all we have in mind and not only that we're going to play against one team." Pakistan's latest assignment is against Sri Lanka as both teams will face off in the two-match Test series starting July 16 in Galle. WATCH WION LIVE HERE:

Pakistan left-arm pacer Wahab Riaz announces international retirement before Asia Cup

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) shared a video on Pakistan cricket on the country's 76th Independence Day on Monday (August 14). The two-minute 21-second clip traced back to Pakistan's international cricket debut in 1952 and captured some of their biggest moments, such as the historic ODI World Cup triumph in 1992 till the 2022 T20 World Cup where Babar Azam-led Men in Green reached the final.

However, the video has not been well-received by the Pakistan cricket fans. The short clip is facing a severe backlash as it did not involve Imran Khan, the national captain and former prime minister who led Pakistan to their first-ever mega title during the 1992 ODI World Cup in Australia and New Zealand.

The caption of the video reads, "Making history isn't just about one day; it's about the legends we create and the tales we script. Pakistan Cricket Team – a legacy that echoes through time."

The viral clip comprised some big names from Pakistan cricket such as Javed Miandad, Wasim Akram, Shoaib Akhtar, Waqar Younis, Shahid Afridi, and Babar.

It displayed some of their glorious moments in 1992 win, the 2009 T20 World Cup victory and 2017 Champions Trophy win, where they trounced India in the summit clash. However, Imran -- a veteran of 88 Tests and 175 ODIs -- was nowhere to be found.

Imran has been a huge name in Pakistan cricket. He remains one of the finest cricketers of all time. He ended with 3,807 and 3,709 Test and ODI runs, respectively, along with claiming a total of 544 international wickets (362 of them came in the purest format) during his sparkling international career (spanning from 1971-1994). He turned to politics and served as Pakistan's Prime Minister (the country's 22nd overall) from August 2018 to April 2022.

Apart from Imran, the likes of Mohammad Yousuf -- who still holds the record for the most runs in a calendar year in Tests -- and former opener Saeed Anwar were also not part of the PCB video.

Pakistan Cricket Team – a legacy that echoes through time." The viral clip comprised some big names from Pakistan cricket such as Javed Miandad, Wasim Akram, Shoaib Akhtar, Waqar Younis, Shahid Afridi, and Babar. It displayed some of their glorious moments in 1992 win, the 2009 T20 World Cup victory and 2017 Champions Trophy win, where they trounced India in the summit clash. However, Imran -- a veteran of 88 Tests and 175 ODIs -- was nowhere to be found. Pakistan set for Road Safety World Series debut in season 3, tournament set to commence in September

Former Pakistan keeper-batter and PCB ex-chairman Ijaz Butt has passed away in Lahore on Thursday, August 3, aged 85. Butt, who chaired Pakistan Cricket Board in 2008, made his Test debut against West Indies in Karachi in 1959. The right-handed batter played eight Tests for his country, with his last coming against England at the Oval in 1962.

Some 20 years later, Butt got appointed as the Team Manager for a tour of Australia and even headed the selection committee on two occasions. Butt also served as the secretary of the Board of Control for Cricket in Pakistan - the precursor to the PCB - from 1984 to 1988.

The PCB’s management committee chairman Zaka Ashraf paid tributes to Ijaz Butt on behalf of the board, saying, "On behalf of the PCB, I want to express my deepest condolences on the sad demise of Mr Ijaz Butt.

That moment led to the ban of international cricket in Pakistan for nearly a decade.

Later, in 2010, following a dismal show against Australia Down Under, the PCB hit back with sanctions against its own players.

While star batters Mohammad Yousuf and Younis Khan were banned ‘indefinitely’, seasoned campaigners Shoaib Malik and Rana Naveed-ul-Hasan were handed one-year bans. Besides, Shahid Afridi, Umar Gul and Kamran Akmal were put on six-month prohibitions.

The same year Butt also had to cope with a new issue at hand – the spot-fixing scandal of 2010, where three star players, including captain Salman Butt, Mohammad Asif and Mohammad Amir, all brought shame to the country with their shameful acts. Later, all three players were banned for respective periods, while relations between both ECB and PCB turned frosty.

In 2011, Zaka Ashraf, who holds the PCB chairman nowadays, replaced him for the top seat.
