<p>New voices should be applauded and given a platform, said actor Manoj Bajpayee on Friday as he lamented the lack of mentorship provided by the streaming services to independent filmmakers.</p>

<p>At a panel discussion at the 54th International Film Festival of India (IFFI) here, the actor said when the streaming services started in India, they backed independent storytellers but now these platforms are giving priority to blockbuster films.</p>

<p>“One thing that all streaming services started with initially was that they were making independent cinema but that got lost somewhere. For some reason, it has gone down completely and now we see blockbuster films making their way big time."</p>

<p>“But the independent cinema movement that started and was getting such mentorship from the OTT platforms, is gone. And that is a very sad development,” Bajpayee said.</p>

<p>If there is no independent cinema, then the Indian film industry will not evolve, he stressed.</p>

<p>"We will only grow in terms of money but we will not grow as creative people. New voices should be applauded and given platforms. I think they were doing so beautifully well earlier," he added.</p>

<p>Bajpayee said it is unimaginable for independent films to get funding at par with tentpoles such as <em>Jawan, Pathaan</em>&nbsp;or<em> Tiger 3.</em></p>

<p>"It can't stand a chance and if you're giving shows at 9 am for an independent film, it will never do well. It will fall flat. I really request from this stage to all these platforms that they should revive that mentorship," the actor said.</p>

<p>Raj Nidimoru and Krishna DK, the co-creators of Bajpayee's popular OTT series <em>The Family Man, </em>agreed with Bajpayee.</p>

<p>"Earlier, all these films were directly made or shown on OTT. Now it is a clause that it has to play in theatres and only then we will take it," Nidimoru said.</p>

<p>Krishna added, "This is happening worldwide right now. There used to be a time when there would be a film and then there would be an OTT movie. But The Russo Brothers made<em> The Gray Man</em>&nbsp;for Netflix and it is as big as any theatrical film. So now every film is a big film." Apoorva Bakshi, who backed International Emmy-winning series <em>Delhi Crime</em> and <em>Hunt for Veerappan</em>, said streamers are pouring in resources into making "blockbusters".</p>

<p>"There is no safe home left for independent films and that is happening because a lot of resources are going into the blockbusters. I believe independents help filmmakers to become better show creators and directors," she said.</p>

<p>Raj said being an independent filmmaker taught him and Krishna to be self-sufficient.</p>

<p>"We didn't know anyone in the industry, we taught ourselves. So this whole package of indie cinema gave us the confidence that wherever you give us, we can make a film, irrespective of the budget and the stars. I think that's what still keeps us going," he said.</p>

<p>Krishna believes independent filmmaking helps in coming to terms with the fact that "you won't get everything you want".</p>

<p>"You kind of adapt then, I think 'jugaad' is the word. You somehow get the job done and that's how we started making films... Then this OTT and series concept came to India. We were fans of the shows from the West but nobody knew how to make a series in India. I think that jugaad mentality and idea of going back and figuring out how it is done, that came in handy," he added.</p>

<p>The 54th edition of IFFI will conclude on November 28.</p>

<p>Arya will make his impending OTT debut with this show,&nbsp;making his long-format streaming debut with this horror series. Arya will be seen playing the role of a man named Gautam, who is on a rescue mission to find his family, along with some locals in the village of Kattiyal. &nbsp;</p>

<p>Speaking about his exciting project, Jamshad Cethirakath, aka Arya, shared, “My OTT debut with The Village has definitely been a different kind of experience. The show's concept, which is the horror-thriller element with a lot of gore, and a very rooted story was also never experienced in the Indian OTT market. I found that particularly enticing, which led me to pursue it further. The horror series is a class apart from all other horror genres seen on the Indian OTT platforms. A lot of times, the horror that we see in movies too is very restricted and one cannot go beyond a certain point while creating it, but here Milind (Rau - the director) has gone all out. I think this is a way for creators to believe in making this kind of content because people really want to watch these types of genres.”</p>

<p>India has told Netflix, Disney and other streaming services that their content should be independently reviewed for obscenity and violence before being shown online, according to a government document and sources.</p>

<p>The proposal was delivered to the streaming platforms at a June 20 meeting at the Information and Broadcasting Ministry. The streaming companies, also referred to as OTT platforms, objected and no decision was reached, according to government minutes of the talks and an industry source who attended.</p>

<p>The ministry "highlighted concerns regarding obscene and vulgar content on OTT platforms, as expressed by Members of Parliament, citizen groups, and the general public," said the minutes, which are not public but were seen by Reuters.</p>

<p>Netflix and Amazon have become hugely popular in India, which is set to grow into a $7 billion market for the sector by 2027, according to Media&nbsp;Partners&nbsp;Asia.</p>

<p>Top Bollywood stars feature in online material, some of which has faced criticism from lawmakers and the public for scenes deemed vulgar or offensive to religious sentiments.</p>

<p>Though all films in Indian cinemas are reviewed and certified by a government-appointed board, streamed content is not.</p>

<p>Officials in the meeting asked the industry to consider an independent panel to review content so that unsuitable material could be weeded out, two people who attended said.</p>

<p>The industry objected but the officials asked them to consider the idea, they added.</p>

<p>The government highlighted the need for a "more proactive approach" to ensure that streaming content, "including international content", aligns with a so-called code of ethics, the minutes showed.</p>

<p>That code already mandates providers to exercise caution on content that could incite violence or be sensitive for religious reasons.</p>

<p>The meeting was attended by Amazon, Disney, Netflix, Reliance's broadcast unit, Viacom18, and Apple TV.</p>

<p>The companies and the ministry did not respond to requests for comments.</p>

<p>The discussions signal growing scrutiny of India's fast-growing streaming market.</p>

<p>The proposal also comes as streaming giants protest a government order to add 50-second tobacco health warnings in each piece of content, and two years after India ordered the setting up self-regulatory bodies for complaints about streaming content.</p>

<p>Industry executives say India's streaming regulations are among the world's most stringent.</p>

<p>Two months after its theatrical release, Salman Khan's <em>Kisi Ka Bhai Kisi Ki Jaan</em> is all set to release on the OTT platform. The film is a Hindi remake of the Tamil film <em>Veeram</em> and also stars Pooja Hegde, Venkatesh Daggubati, Jagapathi Babu, Bhumika Chawla, Vijender Singh, Abhimanyu Singh, Raghav Juyal, Siddharth Nigam, Jassie Gill, Shehnaaz Gill, Palak Tiwari, and Vinali Bhatnagar.&nbsp;</p>

<h2><strong>Kisi Ka Bhai Kisi Ki Jaan OTT release&nbsp;</strong></h2>

<p>Salman Khan's action drama will be available to stream on ZEE5 from June 23. Khan made the big announcement on his social media handles.&nbsp;</p>

WION's film critic Shomini Sen wrote in her review: Ultimately, Kisi Ka Bhai Kisi Ki Jaan works only for its action sequences in the second half - provided you have the palate for incessant punches and mind-numbing stunts. Both Khan and Venkatesh somewhat uplift the climax but the film's writers Farhad Samji, Sparsh Khetarpal, and Tasha Bhambra's lazy writing shows.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Pooja Hegde and Salman Khan's romance- which forms the core story- is ice cold. It's like the girl is romancing a cucumber. In fact, Salman's inability to emote much is incorporated cleverly in one scene where he holds the same straight face when his lady love asks him to emote. Quite meta, I'd say. Also, the way the brothers decide to choose the girl for their beloved Bhaijaan is bizarre. One moment they decide and pray to god that they want a girl for their brother, and the next second, the girl lands right in front of them. Also, no background check is done for her- so much for loving their Bhaijaan. The girl could have easily been replaced by a pigeon flying past them- they would have chosen it for their Bhai.&nbsp;</p>

However, keeping all these thoughts aside, let's discuss the movie and whether the audience should pay for the ticket or simply wait for the film to land on the OTT platform.</p>

But, in the case of <em>Jogira Sara Ra Ra,</em> it tries to tick most of the boxes but fails miserably and leaves everything halfway through.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Written by Ghalib Asad Arora, the film doesn't explore much and remains tangled in many unnecessary things that only stretch the film. The narrative of the film is baffling and makes you wonder about the maker's motive. At some points, the film goes haywire with some unnecessary plot points, preachy dialogues, and character additions.</p>

<p>Despite so many flaws, the makers attempt to give the film a humorous touch which brings in some laughs momentarily.</p>

<h3><strong>How's the cast&nbsp;</strong></h3>

<p>Nawaz has proven his acting prowess in many critically acclaimed shows and movies, but he seems like a misfit in this film. To be honest, this is not a character meant for him. Nawaz as a flirty Jogi, wearing a blingy jeans jacket and speaking preachy dialogues, doesn't blend well. On the other hand, Neha's performance as a free-spirited brat child is credible. She has tried to do justice to her character but what holds her back is the lazy writing.</p>

<p>Like always, Sanjay Mishra manages to win the hearts of the audience as Chaudhary. His comic timing is perfect and his scenes light up an otherwise dull film. Other actors like Mahaakshay Chakraborty&nbsp;as Lallu, Suman Patel, Rohit Chaudhary, Vishwanath Chatterjee, Ghanshyam Garg, Zarina Wahab, and others have done a decent job in their limited screen time.</p>

Jogira Sara Ra Ra review: Nawazuddin Siddiqui’s film is neither for theatre nor OTT

<p>Netflix plans to invest $2.5 billion in South Korea's entertainment content in the span of the next four years, announced Ted Sarandos, the CEO of the streaming giant, after holding a meeting with the country's President Yoon Suk Yeol in Washington.</p>

<p>In recent years, South Korea has elevated its status as a global cultural powerhouse, especially because of the explosive success achieved by the blockbuster Netflix series "Squid Game" and the Oscar-winning film "Parasite".&nbsp;</p>

<p>"Netflix is delighted to confirm that we will invest USD 2.5 billion in Korea including the creation of Korean series, films, and unscripted shows over the next four years," said Sarandos, in a statement, on Tuesday.</p>

<p>"This investment plan is twice the total amount Netflix has invested in the Korean market since we started our service in Korea in 2016," he added.&nbsp;</p>
