<p>But the second season stumbled before it even premiered when it was announced that Anthony Mackie would be replacing Kinnaman as Kovacs. While this made sense from a lore perspective, since, in the books, Kovacs frequently changes bodies, audiences were still divided on the casting change and ultimately alienated them.</p>

From high-octane action to heartwarming stories, here's a list of seven must-watch films that you must watch before this year comes to an end. 


<p>A junior Indian minister Wednesday (Dec 18) informed the country’s parliament that the government had banned 18 OTT platforms this year for publishing obscene and vulgar content. Minister of State for Information and Broadcasting L Murugan told Lok Sabha, the lower house of the parliament, that these 18 OTT platforms were blocked in March.</p>

<p>"The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting has taken action in coordination with various intermediaries, and blocked 18 OTT platforms on 14th March 2024 for publishing obscene, vulgar, and, in some instances, pornographic content under these provisions," the minister said.</p>

<p>Murugan was responding to a question asked by Shiv Sena-UBT Member of Parliament Anil Desai. He cited the IT Rules of 2021 while saying that the OTT platforms, also referred to as intermediaries, were obliged to make reasonable efforts by themselves against displaying or spreading obscene or pornographic content.</p>

He added that the rules also empowered the central government to order any government agency or an intermediary to censor content in the interest of the sovereignty and integrity of India, defence of India, security of the State, friendly relations with foreign states or public order or for preventing incitement to the commission of any cognisable offence relating to such matters.</p>

<p>The minister further added that “significant” Social Media Intermediaries are also required to appoint a Chief Compliance Officer to ensure compliance with the Act and rules made thereunder.</p>

Oberoi’s Inside Edge co-star Tanuj Virwani, who has also done ensemble shows like Cartel and Murshid, amplifies his opinion saying, “In a film, the structure is very different as it has a beginning, an interval and a climax. You have your quintessential hero, an antagonist and a heroine. But in a long format, you get eight-nine hours of screen time to portray a fully fleshed-out story. If you have only two to three characters for that long, no matter how interesting your story is, it will start to get redundant. But having different colours through more characters makes your show bingeworthy. Every character gets to be the hero of their own story.” Further adding, “You’d have a Vijay Varma or a Siddhant Chaturvedi break out once in a while from OTT to films, but the opportunities are very limited as the hierarchy system there is very different. You still need to have the typical male lead image, but that’s not there in OTT. Heeramandi casting director, Shruti Mahajan, shared, “The challenge often lies in addressing the natural hesitations some actors may have about being part of an ensemble. Unlike films where a single actor often carries the narrative, ensemble casts require each actor to understand that the story is shared. Every actor wants the story to focus on them but ensuring that every actor feels their role is significant while contributing to the chemistry and dynamics of the group is crucial.”

Several OTT releases lined up, mark your entertainment calendar

<p>The Congress government in the southern Indian state of Karnataka is planning to impose cess on movie tickets as well as&nbsp;Over-the-Top (OTT) subscription fees to support the film industry.&nbsp;Karnataka Cine and Cultural Workers (Welfare) Bill, 2024&nbsp;was tabled in the state assembly on Friday (Jul 19) and if passed, the cess levied could range from one to two per cent.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The additional revenue created by the taxes would be used to fund social security benefits such as the Provident Fund (PF) and Employees' State Insurance (ESI) for the cine workers.&nbsp;</p>

<p>"Any individual working in the film industry as an artist (actor, musician, dancer, etc.) or in any manual, supervisory, technical, artistic, or unskilled capacity is considered a cinema and cultural activist,"&nbsp;the bill reads.</p>

<p>"This also applies to people who are involved in activities that the government has declared in connection with this Act," it added.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The bill also demands the creation of a seven-member welfare board that will manage the funds collected for cine workers and cultural activists. According to estimates by the Karnataka Film Workers Artists and Technicians Union, there are 2,355 workers in the state working on films and shows.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Labour Department Secretary Mohammad Mohsin highlighted there were plans in the pipeline to impose a tax on theatrical plays performed in the state as well.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Karnataka Assembly's Leader of the Opposition and BJP MLA R Ashoka criticised the move saying Congress had become a 'pauper government'.&nbsp;</p>

<p>"The price of petrol, diesel and everything is rising. They have put a tax on movie theatres and OTT subscriptions also. This government has become a pauper government. So there is no money. That's why they are generating the money," said&nbsp;Ashoka.&nbsp;</p>
