NBA: 'Got to have enough common sense,' says Shaquille O'Neal on Ja Morant gun video incident

Glendale Police in Colorado, on Monday, said that they are now investigating the incident involving Memphis Grizzlies' Ja Morant after he posted an Instagram Live video which showed him displaying a gun in his hand outside a nightclub.

The development comes after the National Basketball Association (NBA) already announced a probe into the matter. Morant, who deactivated his Twitter and Instagram account after the incident, is also away from the team as the NBA investigation goes on.

The Grizzlies have also not given any definitive timeline for his return as the All-Star finds himself in trouble off the court. Morant, however, apologized for the incident and said 'he's sorry.'

"I'm sorry to my family, teammates, coaches, fans, partners, the city of Memphis and the entire organization for letting you down," he said in a statement. "I'm going to take some time away to get help and work on learning better methods of dealing with stress and my overall well-being."

NBA: Ja Morant's Instagram gun video being investigated by Colorado police

The National Basketball Association (NBA) has rescinded Milwaukee Bucks star Giannis Antetokounmpo's triple-double which he had scored against the Washington Wizards on Sunday night.

The move comes after the NBA adjusted the statistics from the Bucks' win. Antetokounmpo, notably, had said after that game that he stole his rebound which gave him the season's fourth triple-double.

Antetokounmpo, with nine seconds left on the clock, grabbed a defensive rebound and hustled across the court with the ball. At that time, Giannis had nine rebounds, one short of making it a triple-double and he knew it. Further, he got near the rim and almost stopped for a nano-second before intentionally throwing the ball into the bottom of the rim and then caught it. A Rebound!

On-site statisticians too, credited him with a missed shot and the 10th rebound for that play as the Bucks' star scored his triple-double. "Kind of stole one," Antetokounmpo had said Sunday night after the game. Here's that shot:

The Memphis Grizzlies announced Saturday that their point guard Ja Morant 'will not be playing at least the next two games' after NBA launched an investigation in Morant's Instagram Live video where the player is displaying a handgun.

Morant deactivated both his Instagram and Twitter accounts Saturday afternoon and also issued statement, taking 'full responsibility for his actions.'

"I'm sorry to my family, teammates, coaches, fans, partners, the city of Memphis and the entire organization for letting you down," the statement read. "I'm going to take some time away to get help and work on learning better methods of dealing with stress and my overall well-being."

This is not the first stance that Morant has found himself in the soup. The Washington Post, on Wednesday, had published a story which contained two incidents from the summer which results in police reports against Morant but no arrests.

Meanwhile, Jim Tanner, the guard's agent, in a statement, responding to the Washington Post's story, said, "any and every allegation involving a firearm has been fully investigated and could not be corroborated. This includes the NBA investigation last month, in which they found no evidence."

The Grizzlies currently sit at second position, behind the Denver Nuggets, in the Western Conference with a 38-24 win-loss record. Morant, who has played 53 games this season, is averaging 27 points, 6 rebounds and 8 assists per game.

The Memphis Grizzlies announced Saturday that their point guard Ja Morant 'will not be playing at least the next two games' after NBA launched an investigation in Morant's Instagram Live video where the player is displaying a handgun. The Grizzlies made the announcement after NBA spokesperson Mike Bass, earlier Saturday, said, "we are aware of a social media post involving Ja Morant and are investigating." The video in question shows Morant with a gun in his hand while he was at a night club early Saturday morning, hours after Memphis' 113-97 loss to the Denver Nuggets. The Live Video, which started 5:18 am ET shows the All-Star player shirtless, rapping along with music and a handgun in his left hand. "I'm sorry to my family, teammates, coaches, fans, partners, the city of Memphis and the entire organization for letting you down," the statement read. "I'm going to take some time away to get help and work on learning better methods of dealing with stress and my overall well-being." This is not the first stance that Morant has found himself in the soup. This includes the NBA investigation last month, in which they found no evidence." The Grizzlies currently sit at second position, behind the Denver Nuggets, in the Western Conference with a 38-24 win-loss record. Morant, who has played 53 games this season, is averaging 27 points, 6 rebounds and 8 assists per game. WATCH WION LIVE HERE You can now write for wionews.com and be a part of the community. NBA: Jimmy Butler's jaw-dropping lay-up takes Heat past 76ers - Watch

LeBron James could face multiple weeks on the sidelines after suffering a foot injury, US media said Monday, dealing a blow to the Los Angeles Lakers hopes of forcing their way into the playoffs. The Lakers confirmed that the NBA's all-time leading scorer would play no part in the game against Memphis on Tuesday due to "right foot soreness".

However, multiple US media reported that the Lakers feared James would be sidelined for multiple weeks after injuring his foot in Sunday's comeback win over the Dallas Mavericks. James played on after landing awkwardly on his foot in the third quarter but was later seen limping away from the venue following the game.

James later said he was determined not to leave the game in a bid to help the recently revitalised Lakers claim victory. "I definitely wasn't going to go to the locker room and not finish the game out tonight," he said after the win. "We'll monitor (the foot) the next couple days, see how it feels and go from there."

ESPN reported Monday that James was undergoing further "testing and conversations" to determine the extent of the injury. James, 38, has been in blistering form for the Lakers this season, averaging 29.5 points, 8.4 rebounds and 6.9 assists while also breaking the NBA's all-time scoring record in early February.

After a shaky start to the season, the Lakers have improved markedly in recent weeks following a flurry of roster moves that has strengthened the team's lineup. NBA: LaMelo Ball leaves game after fracturing ankle as Hornets beat Pistons

Damian Lillard scored career-high 71 points and 13 3-pointers on Sunday night as the Portland Trail Blazers beat the Houston Rockets 131-114 and ended their two-game losing streak.

Lillard also set franchise records for points and three-pointers with his performance and became only the eight player in the history of National Basketball Association (NBA) to score 70 points or more. Lillard's previous franchise record for most points was 61, which he achieved twice.

For this season, Dame tied with Cleveland Cavaliers' Donovan Mitchell who also erupted for 71 points on January 2 against the Chicago Bulls. Lillard's 13 3-pointers in 22 attempts were also just one short of the NBA record, set by Golden State Warriors' Klay Thompson in 2018. Apart from Lillard, Warriors' Steph Curry in 2016 and Bulls' Zac LaVine in 2019 drained 13 3-pointers in a game.

NBA: Jayson Tatum's three-pointer headlines wild finish as Celtics hold off 76ers

Former NBA player JJ Redick has found himself bogged down in a debate after he put forth his view that Larry Bird was not one of the greatest three-point shooters of all time in NBA history.
The comments raised a lot of eyebrows and Dominique Wilkins, a Basketball Hall of Famer, termed former NBA guard's views as 'stupid.' Redick, however, hit back and termed the notion of of the past players incurring more physical play than current players a 'trope.'

Golden State Warriors star Stephen Curry, who is currently recuperating from a lower left leg injury, is 'making good progress,' said the team on Wednesday. Curry has started on-court workouts involving no-contact shooting after missing five games due to the injury and will be evaluated again after a week, the Warriors said. Warriors coach Steve Kerr also acknowledged that the team is going to be without Curry for the foreseeable future.

NBA: Dirk Nowitzki, Paul Gasol, Dwyane Wade highlight 2023 class of Hall of Fame finalists list

The 2023 NBA All-Star Weekend kicked off in Salt Lake City on February 17 with Ruffles All-Star celebrity game. Between the two teams playing in the Celebrity Game, Team Dwyane Wade stole a hard-fought 81-78 victory against Team Ryan. The talk of the game was NFL star DK Metcalf who impressed every one so much with his hooping skills that he was awarded the Most Valuable Player (MVP) of the game. The game wasn't without drama as WWE Wrestler The Miz almost scored a game-winning buzzer-beater for Team Ryan. Nonetheless, the second-most star-studded All-Star Celebrity Game lived up to its expectations of drama, blitz, flying and some decent hooping with Metcalf being the highlight.

The Seattle Seahawks wide receiver, in his MVP performance, scored 20 points, 10 rebounds and four blocks for Team Dwyane Wade, which was being captained by the three-time NBA champ and Utah Jazz minority owner Wade. Metcalf's double-double was not the only thing to be noticed though, as the WR also showed off his skills with a bunch of dunks during the game. Even on defense, Metcalf continued to impress by blocking and sending back shots at regular interval. Here are some of the tweets showing Metcalf exploding in the All-Star Celebrity game:

Ex-Michigan State player Keith Appling pleaded guilty to second-degree murder and a firearm charge, on Monday (February 13), with regard to a fatal shooting in Detroit two years back. Appling, who represented the Orlando Magic in 2016, pleaded guilty in a Michigan court to one count each of second-degree murder and weapons felony firearm possession. The plea deal was announced right before his trial was about to kick off on Monday. It is to be noted that in 2021, the 31-year-old Appling had been framed for the murder of 66-year-old Clyde Edmonds. As per the prosecutors, Appling’s plea agreement comprises a sentence of 18 to 40 years in the Michigan Department of Corrections. In addition, it has two years of consecutive sentencing for the possession of a felony firearm. Thus, the axe is set to fall on Appling as the former NBA player will be sentenced by a Michigan judge on March 3. It is always tragic when one with so much promise, talent and possibility is alleged to have committed the most serious of crimes." In May 2021, police officers arrived at a house in Detroit after being informed of a shooting where they found the victim on the front lawn. The body was that of Edmonds and he was rushed to a nearby hospital, after being shot on multiple occasions, before being later pronounced dead.
New Orleans Pelicans forward Zion Williamson, who is out of action since January 2 due to a right hamstring injury, will continue to be off the court even after the All-Star break after he aggravated his injury during rehab. Zion had started 3-on-3 workout in the rehab and flared up the injury. The All-Star break will start on Friday, February 20, and will run through the weekend. The Pelicans forward will be out for multiple weeks after the event as informed by New Orleans executive vice president of basketball operations David Griffin on Sunday. Zion reportedly is not happy with the setback.

"I think we're looking at multiple weeks past the All-Star break that he'll be back," Griffin said. "What that looks like in terms of timeline, I really can't tell you. Much as we have throughout this, we'll continue to image him, and post-All-Star that will happen." Talking about Williamson's reaction to the injury, Griffin said, "it's fair to say not terribly well because he was really diligent in his rehab and in the process," he said. "Unfortunately this is an injury that has a really high incidence of recurrence. It's nothing he did wrong to bring this about. He was very diligent in the process and it just is what it is."

The Pelicans have been miserable ever since Zion was declared unfit to play after the January 2 game against the Philadelphia 76ers. New Orleans has lost 14 out of their 20 games in Zion's absence, including a 10-game losing streak. With Williamson available, Pelicans were sitting pretty with a 23-14 record and a top three seed in the Western Conference. After Williamson's injury, the Pelicans have dropped to the seventh position in the conference with a 29-28 winning record.
