In an effort to make Madhya Pradesh’s Indore city free of beggars, the district authorities have said on Monday, December 16, that FIR will registered against those who give alms from January 1, 2025.
District collector Ashish Singh told reporters that the administration has already issued an order to ban begging in Indore, according to news agency PTI.
“Our awareness campaign against begging will go on in the city till the end of this month (December). If any person is found giving alms from January 1, a First Information Report (FIR) will be registered against him/her,” he said.

Earlier in September, 12 beggars were rescued from Khajrana Temple Square, according to reports. In another incident, 10 beggars and 4 children were rescued from the Annapurna Temple area in Indore city. In addition, authorities rescued 12 beggars from Balaji Temple in front of the zoo, reports claim.

"We can't babysit anyone, right? Every professional who is playing at this level, they need to know what they should be doing," Iyer said. "And he has also done it in the past; it's not that he hasn't. He has to focus, he has to sit back, [and] put a thinking cap on, and then figure out himself. The 25-year-old had made his India debut six years ago in 2018 and scored a ton against the West Indies just before turning 19 in the same year. The batter has also played six ODIs and scored 189 runs, with 49 being his highest individual score. In the lone T20I for India, Shaw got out on a duck. The T20I in July 2021 was his last game in the India shirt.

Communications were down in large parts of the territory, leaving relatives outside desperately enquiring on social media. "I need an update from Chiconi please, my brother, my sister-in-law and my niece are there and I'm without any news since Saturday," said one.
French President Emmanuel Macron was to hold an emergency meeting about Mayotte later on Monday. Acting health minister Genevieve Darrieussecq said Mamoudzou's main hospital was maintaining operations after floodwaters had been cleared while a field clinic would be set up and 100 additional medics deployed.
More than three-quarters of Mayotte's 321,000 people live in relative poverty. As the probe in the Bengaluru techie suicide case continues, details have emerged that Nikita Singhania, the estranged wife of 34-year-old techie Atul Subhash, changed her location every day and made calls only on WhatsApp to not get caught by the police. 
Nikita also constantly tried to secure anticipatory bail after the techie's family filed a suicide abetment case against her. 
However, a mistake by her and one phone call gave her location away, and the Bengaluru Police tracked her down to Gurugram, police sources told Indian news agency IANS. 
While she moved to a PG accommodation in Gurugram, her mother and brother hid in Jhusi town in Uttar Pradesh's Prayagraj district. They all communicated on WhatsApp calls. 
But Nikita made one call, by mistake, to one of her close relatives. Following this, the police tracked the tower location and reached the PG accommodation in Gurugram's Rail Vihar, according to the sources.

Meanwhile, Nikita's uncle Sushil Singhania, the fourth accused in the suicide abetment case, is still on the run. 
Soon after the Bengaluru Police registered the case, the accused locked their home in Uttar Pradesh's Jaunpur and fled, the police sources said. 
When the police reached Jaunpur, they pasted notices on their home, asking them to appear within three days. 
The Bengaluru Police also made a list of the family's close relatives and kept an eye on them. 
However, the accused only made calls on WhatsApp, which made it difficult for the police to track them.

Tabla maestro Zakir Hussain is no more. The legendary figure passed away at a hospital in San Francisco, USA. 
In an official statement released by his family, it was confirmed that Hussain died due to Idiopathic Pulmonary Fibrosis (IPF), a rare lung disease. 
"His prolific work as a teacher, mentor and educator has left an indelible mark on countless musicians. He hoped to inspire the next generation to go further. He leaves behind an unparalleled legacy as a cultural ambassador and one of the greatest musicians of all time," said his family.
The musician had been admitted to the hospital for a few weeks now. However, his health deteriorated recently when he was shifted to ICU. 
Hussain is survived by his wife, Antonia Minnecola, and their daughters, Anisa and Isabella Qureshi.

The Srinagar-New Delhi rail link has been in the making for the last 20 years and finally, the time has come for Srinagar to be connected to New Delhi via rail. 
According to government sources, the Vande Bharat train service from New Delhi to Srinagar will be inaugurated on January 26, 2025.
Kashmiri people have been waiting for decades for the Srinagar-New Delhi rail link. Since the announcement of Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnav saying a historic milestone has been achieved by completing the Udhampur-Srinagar-Baramulla rail link, there has been cheer among every community in the Valley, from businessmen to students, and from tourists to non-local workers.

Kashmir Valley is waiting for a tourist boom after the start of the service, as it would be a cheap and easy mode of transport while coming to the Valley.
''This is a welcome step and a historic development; it was our long-pending demand that we should get train connectivity from all metro cities. Budget tourism wasn't possible, and those tourists were not able to come here. It's a dream of everyone to come to Kashmir once in their life. It's a great step and will boost tourism and many other sectors. We are very hopeful that it will help the tourism sector. The train won't only have one season but also all other seasons, including winter, summer, spring, and autumn. Our national highway is beautiful, and people love to take the route, and with the train coming, it will be one of the best journeys of their lives to take, '' said Manzoor Pakhtoon, the president of Houseboat Association.
The business community of the Kashmir Valley and outside has also welcomed this step. 
Most business people believe that it will be one of the biggest game changers in the history of Jammu and Kashmir and will take business and tourism to new peaks.

The 800 km long railway track from Srinagar to New Delhi would be covered within 13 hours of travel time. The track will have around 931 bridges and 38 tunnels. It also includes the longest train tunnel, the Pir Panjal Railway Tunnel, measuring 11.21 km, and also the world's highest bridge over the Chenab River, with a height of 359 metres, making it higher than the Eiffel Tower of Paris.
The tourists coming to Kashmir Valley have welcomed the step and said that having a train service to Srinagar would mean affordable travel for the middle class.
''I think it will be great, and having another option to come to this place is going to be better for tourism. Getting more people and not everyone wants to come in a plane and not everyone would be able to come in a bus, so adding a third option is good for the area and tourism,'' said Snape, a tourist.
Security remains one of the major concerns for the authorities in Jammu and Kashmir for the rail service. Most of the security arrangements have already been put in place on the track with two wings of security, Railway Police Security (RPF) and General Railway Police (GRP), are fully dedicated to the security of railway stations and tracks. There will be CCTV connectivity at every station, every tunnel, and every bridge.
These will be controlled round the clock by railway and security officials in several sub-control rooms.

India's D Gukesh, the youngest world chess champion, returned home on Monday (Dec 16) after his historic win in Singapore. Gukesh beat defending champion Ding Liren to create history and became the world champion at 18. He's only the second Indian after legendary Viswanathan Anand to win the title.

After winning the World Chess Championship that went on for 13 games before the winner was decided in Game 14, Gukesh was interviewed by FIDE, during which he said, "I mean as a kid I wanted to become world champion because I thought it meant the best player in the world. It’s still a very special achievement for me. Going through the whole process – Candidates, World Championship – it’s very stressful and I had to put a lot of effort into it.
"So it means a lot to me, but the main goal I have had is being the best in the world and achieving my full potential. And if that’s enough to become the greatest of all time, then yeah sure," he added.
Russian great Garry Kasparov had held the record for the youngest world champion until Gukesh’s success.  Kasparov won the 1985 World Chess Championship when he was 22, a record he held until the Indian grandmaster’s success in Singapore last week.
The win was celebrated across the country, with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi leading in congratulating Gukesh.

He was the consummate artiste who performed his first concert when he was just seven, going on to captivate audiences with his sheer exuberance and talent for more than six decades. Yet Zakir Hussain would get nervous before he went on stage and thanked his “lucky stars” for that.
The 73-year-old, amongst India’s most celebrated musicians, died in a San Francisco hospital early on Monday.
In an interview with PTI earlier this year, Hussain quoted sitarist Ravi Shankar as saying he would be really worried about the show if he didn’t get nervous.
“It meant that his focus wasn’t 100 per cent on, it meant that he was taking this for granted. And you know it’s true. Over the years, you get to a point where you have built up a reputation, you have built up some kind of a status for yourself, and the more you have done it the more responsibility falls on your shoulders because you have got to live up to that,” Hussain told PTI.
Hussain, who made the tabla more popular and recognisable to western audiences and was the founding member of the fusion group Shakti, added that performance pressure can be compared to the Indian cricket team when it plays in India.
“The amount of nervousness or some minor tension increases from day to day. I mean, look at the Indian cricket team playing in India, the pressure on them is 100-fold more than the pressure on the visiting team. I do really thank my lucky stars that I still get that little hint of tension or nervousness before I go to a concert.” The percussionist, who started touring when he was just 12, won three Grammy Awards at the 66th edition of the Grammy awards earlier this year. He was known for having worked with Indian and international musicians, defying genres and creating masterpieces such as “Planet Drum”, a world music album with American percussionist Mickey Hart that was awarded the first-ever Grammy for Best World Music Album in 1992.
The son of Allah Rakha, Hussain, said “all inclusive musical creativity” came naturally to him as someone who had learnt and worked with the all-time great tabla legend who also composed music for some films.
“From the age of seven or eight, I would go with him to all his recording sessions with Asha ji or Lata ji, or Rafi ji and be part of the orchestra… He would give me a khanjari or a tambourine or a little something to play. So I grew up in this situation where being in a combination of musical creativity, which was an all-inclusive process as opposed to a singular one, seemed like a natural way to go,” he remembered.
“So the mindset as I was growing up tuned itself to the idea that music is music, it’s not Indian music or that music, so when I actually started working with musicians who were non Indian it seemed like a natural handshake,” Hussain added.
Tabla had long been viewed as an accompaniment in Indian classical music and over the years moved out of the shadows to become a centerpiece.
Hussain thanked his father and his contemporaries, especially Pandit Kishan Maharaj and Samta Prasad, for bringing notice to the humble percussion instrument.
He said it was their work with people like Pandit Ravi Shankar, Ustad Vilayat Khan, Ustad Ali Akbar Khan, Ustad Bismillah Khan, and Pandit Birju Maharaj that audience really started to notice “that this other guy is not so bad and is cool and things started to happen”.
“And because of that, we the tabla players in the next generation got a launching pad. So things were readymade but yes we had to make best use of that and luckily we were able to make that connection,” Hussain added.

On Sunday (Dec 15), it was reported that the eight-year-old boy is still in the Paediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) and is having "intermittent fever." 
As per The Hindu, the doctors of KIMS Cuddles Hospital said that he's still having "intermittent fever." 
The hospital said, ''The boy continues to be in the Paediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) on ventilator support with minimal requirements. He is hemodynamically stable and tolerating tube feedings. However, he has intermittent fever, remains in an altered sensorium, and exhibits dystonic movements.”
