Super League promoters on Tuesday revealed they have asked FIFA and UEFA for "official recognition" of their proposed competition, renamed the "Unify League", leaning on a ruling from Europe's top court.
A22 Sports Management said it sent the proposal after discussions with various leagues, clubs and other stakeholders, revising its qualification system to base participation on annual domestic performances. It has submitted plans for competitions featuring 96 teams divided into four leagues, running from September to April, followed by a knockout phase starting with the quarter-finals.

In a statement, A22 argued last year's European Court of Justice (ECJ) ruling meant that "any competition where qualification is inclusive and meritocratic, and which complies with the overall match calendar can be officially established".
Promoters also said matches would be shown live for free via a streaming platform.
"Our extensive engagement with key stakeholders revealed a number of pressing challenges facing the sport including increasing subscription costs for fans, an overloaded player calendar, insufficient investment in women's football, and dissatisfaction with the format and governance of the current pan-European competitions," said A22 CEO Bernd Reichart said.
"Our proposal is designed to directly address these challenges."

European football's governing body also pointed out that it had since brought in new rules to ensure it now complied with EU law.

The 23-year-old suspect named Arlder Israel Amoyal was detained in November over the suspicions that he was “committing security offences related to contact with intelligence officials of the Iranian regime and carrying out security missions in Israel under their direction, for financial gain,” the Shin Bet security agency said. 
Amoyal had connected with Iranian intelligence elements since October via social media. The officials said he was in contact with a profile under the name "Arianna" which later changed the name to "John".

The suspect took photos of a paper with the words "Making Peace" written on it. He further graffitied the word "Sinwar" in Tel Aviv and also took photos of several houses in Netanya and Jerusalem. 
He even purchased a GoPro camera to film his actions and used it to send the footage to his handler "John". 
Amnoyal further worked to recruit others to carry out missions for Iran. He specifically chose people with prior criminal records. 
Shin Bet said Amoyal suggested to "John" to set fire to a police cruiser. He also suggested shutting down power to the Jerusalem light rail.

Israel arrests Jerusalem man for spying on behalf of Iran

British-Pakistani girl Sara Sharif's father Urfan Sharif, and stepmother Beinash Batool have been jailed for life for murdering their 10-year-old daughter.   
Sara was hooded, burned, and beaten during a "campaign of torture" for two years by her father, stepmother and uncle. Her body was found at the family home in Woking, Surrey, in 2023.
Justice Cavanagh on Tuesday (Dec 17) described the treatment of Sara as "torture" and condemned the defendants for not showing a "shred of remorse".
Sara's father has been sentenced to a minimum of 40 years in prison for murder, her stepmother Beinash Batool, 30, received a minimum of 33 years, and her uncle Faisal Malik received 16 years of prison sentence for causing or allowing her death.

Further paying tribute to her daughter, she said, "She is now an angel who looks down on us from heaven. She is no longer experiencing violence. I hoped that when she grew up we would meet, but now that won't happen."
Prosecutor William Emlyn Jones KC said that the 10-year-old girl was subjected to serious violence from at least the age of six with a variety of weapons, including a cricket bat, an improvised metal truncheon made from the broken leg of a high chair, and a domestic iron.

“This is a case involving a gross breach of trust because the deceased was the defendant’s own little child. In their care, she suffered this violence in her own home, where she ought to have been entitled to feel safe, loved, and cared for," she said. 
Meanwhile, Sara's uncle was found not guilty of murder but was convicted of causing or allowing her death. 
As the judge continued to speak in the court, his voice shook while describing some of the injuries suffered by Sara, calling the abuse as "nothing short of gruesome". 
Sara was found dead in her family home in Surrey on August 10 last year. Her father and stepmother killed her two days earlier and fled to Pakistan. 
Further, the prison term will take into account time served on remand, with a minimum term of 38 years and 272 days for Sharif and 31 years and 272 days for Batool.

Luigi Mangione: A murder suspect 'too hot to be guilty' for Gen Z

Gurugram Traffic Police have issued a challan of Rs 15,000 to popular rapper Badshah for driving on the wrong side of the road, playing loud music, and rash driving, officials said on Tuesday.
The incident took place on December 15 when Badshah came to the Airia Mall on Sohana Road for a special appearance in a concert by Punjabi singer Karan Aujla, police said.
The Mahindra Thar in which the singer was present is registered in the name of Deepender Malik, a resident of Panipat.
Due to long traffic, the SUV, which was part of Badshah's convoy, drove on the wrong side of the road, catching the attention of some passersby who filmed the act.
As the clippings of the incident went viral on social media, the traffic police took note of it and issued a challan of ₹ 15,000 to the rapper on Monday.
"A challan has been issued and action has been taken for rash driving, playing loud music in the vehicle, and driving on the wrong side," Traffic Inspector Devender Kumar said.

It has been fitted with cutting-edge hydrographic survey technologies, including a Multi-Beam Echo Sounder (MBES) that delivers highly precise and detailed seabed mapping, an Autonomous Underwater Vehicle (AUV) enabling survey missions to be conducted in remote and challenging areas and a Remotely Operated Vehicle (ROV) for inspecting underwater structures. In a statement, the customs department said, "Based on specific intelligence, a Kenyan female passenger who arrived in Chennai from Addis Ababa by Ethiopian Airlines on December 7 was intercepted by the Air Intelligence Unit. On search of her person, she egested 90 cylindrical hyperdense objects with medical assistance."

This comes after a similar incident occurred at the Chennai airport where a cabin crew of Air India was arrested for helping in smuggling 1.7 kg 24-carat gold. 
The authorities nabbed them when the crew member and a passenger were trying to smuggle the gold at the airport on Sunday (Dec 15).

The opposition slammed the bill introduced by the BJP, calling it "anti-constitutional" and an "attack on democracy". 
Trinamool MP Abhishek Banerjee said that this is nothing less than an unashamed attack on democracy, adding that the bill is seizing people's fundamental rights to vote regularly.

Kirillov, 54, is the most senior Russian military officer to be assassinated inside Russia by Ukraine and his murder is likely to prompt Moscow to review security protocols for the army's top brass and to find a way to avenge his killing.
