Notably, Dhoni is one of the most successful skippers in the history of IPL, having won 123 matches and lost 86 out of 210 matches he has captained in with one ending in no-result.

Ahead of the IPL season opener, CSK's former star player Suresh Raina picked his choice as Dhoni's successor. While many believe Ben Stokes is likely to take over from Dhoni ever since he was roped in by the Yellow Army in the last auction, Raina named Ruturaj Gaikwad as Dhoni's successor.&nbsp;

In an interaction with Jio Cinema, Raina said, "Abhi Mahi bhai hain, I really want Ruturaj Gaikwad to nurture around him. I think Mahi bhai has a good brain. Definitely, he is around the boys. So yeah, I would say, hopefully, Ruturaj Gaikwad. He has done really well this season and I want him to do well for the country as well as Chennai Super Kings. Speaking on the sidelines of the Legends League Cricket in Doha, Raina feels if MS remains fit the way he is now and keeps smacking the balls like he is doing in nets, he could well prolong his CSK career for another season as a player.

Stressing on the factors outside of MS’ will to keep playing for CSK, Raina added all will depend on how IPL 2023 goes for him. Mr IPL, as Raina is known as, also noted that of all the players, Dhoni and Rayudu are the ones who haven’t played any cricket since the past year and that it could be a bit more challenging for them in comparison to others.&nbsp;
