Veteran Australian star Mitchell Starc has underlined his mantra for success after returning to the side in the ongoing Ashes as he tries to help his side retain the holy grail. Starc, rested for the first Ashes Test in Edgbaston, was brought back into the side for the second and third contest and has since scalped 13 wickets. The Aussies will look to seal the Ashes yet again as they currently lead the five-match series 2-1 with two matches still to go.

<h2>Starc reveals success mantra</h2>

"I wasn't going to change that this time, and if that meant I didn't play, so be it. I was going to stick to my strengths and what I bring to the attack rather than trying to be someone like Josh [Hazlewood] or someone like Pat [Cummins] because that's not going to complement the group,” Starc said as quoted by Espncricinfo.

Despite missing the opening Test, Starc is only three wickets behind leading wicket-taker Stuart Broad (16) in the Ashes 2023. The 33-year-old’s tally has been only bettered by Broad and his own skipper Pat Cummins (15) while they have played one match more than Starc. His impact was sensible immediately after returning to the squad as he scalped three wickets in both innings of the Lord’s Test.

"There was a big [focus] on economy rates last time which plenty of guys spoke about throughout the tour, and we all bought into that. And that was something that worked really [well] for us to retain the Ashes then," Starc said.

"[But] it affected my approach certainly going back to Australia and losing some airspeed. It took away from some of my strengths and some of the role that I play in our attack,” added Starc.

Australia will take on England in the fourth Ashes Test, which will start on Wednesday, July 19 at Old Trafford. England made a remarkable comeback in the Ashes after winning the Headingley Test and have reduced the visitor's lead to 2-1. England won the contest in Leeds by three wickets in another nail-biting finale on Sunday, July 9.

Ashes 2023: Mitchell Starc underlines success MANTRA in English summer, 'I wasn't going to change...'

England and Australia produced another thrilling clash in Ashes 2023 as Pat Cummins &amp; Co. won the second Test&nbsp;at Lord's&nbsp;on Day 5 by 43 runs in defence of 371. Resuming Day 5, English duo captain Ben Stokes and Ben Duckett (83) started positively before the latter fell and Australia dismissed Jonny Bairstow for cheap (10).

Stokes-Stuart Broad stitched an entertaining 108-run seventh-wicket stand before the English skipper departed for 155 -- laced with nine fours and an equal number of sixes -- as the visitors dismissed England for 327 to go 2-0 down in the series. Bairstow's dismissal triggered a big controversy as he was seen wandering out of the crease, after ducking a slower bouncer from Cameron Green, to be stumped out by Alex Carey. His dismissal led to a verbal spat between the Aussie players and some of the&nbsp;Marylebone Cricket Club (MCC) members.

After Australia's win, Cummins was asked about the Bairstow dismissal by an English reporter in the post-match conference.&nbsp; The journalist asked if Australia&nbsp;would resort to underarm bowling or if the bowlers will try&nbsp;to run out the non-striker in the remaining Tests in the aftermath of Bairstow's dismissal.&nbsp; To this, the Aussie pacer had a savage response.

"Depends on how flat the wickets get. It might be an option to turn to," said Cummins.

Underarm bowling on cards? Pat Cummins gives EPIC reply to English journalist after Lord's Test drama

Marylebone Cricket Club (MCC), the governing body of cricket laws, has justified giving England opener Ben Duckett not out on the fourth day of Lord's Test in Ashes 2023. Duckett had uppercut a ball in the final overs of the day 4 which Australia's Mitchell Starc had caught. Starc although, slid along the ground after taking the catch.

The ball was caught cleanly but it touched the ground as Starc slid along after the catch and the ball kept in touch with the ground. The decision was referred upstairs and Duckett was adjudged 'not out.' MCC, on its Twitter handle, evoked Law 33.3, saying that Starc didn't have complete control over the ball.

"Law 33.3 clearly states that a catch is only completed when the fielder has 'complete control over the ball and his/her movement'," MCC posted on Twitter. "The ball cannot touch the ground before then. In this particular incident, Mitchell Starc was still sliding as the ball rubbed the ground, therefore he was not in control of his movement."&nbsp;

England were already four down at that time but Duckett was batting on 50. He had added 68 runs with skipper Ben Stokes for the fifth wicket by the time of the incident. England then ended the day on 114/4, needing 257 on the final day of the second Test.

Ashes 2023: MCC backs ruling Ben Duckett not out after Mitchell Starc's catch on Day 4 of Lord's Test

Australia fast bowler Mitchell Starc isn't thinking much about the snub from first Ashes Test. The left-arm pacer says that he's been around long enough and this is not something new to him. Scott Boland was favored over Starc as Josh Hazlewood made a comeback in the Australia team during the Edgbaston Test.

"I'm used to it now coming to England. It's a squad mentality, much the same as last time," Starc told reporters ahead of the second Test at Lord's in London. "Been around long enough, been dropped enough. Probably dropped the most in this squad. Not something new to me, won't be the last time, either. It's never fun, everyone wants to play."

Starc, who was although part of the Australian playing XI during the World Test Championship (WTC) Final 2023, admitted that he wasn't in his full rhythm ahead of the Ashes opener.

"I came into that game feeling pretty good, but then my rhythm wasn't quite there," Starc said. "It's been a good couple of weeks of work to get back into that rhythm. We were all better for the run after that Test final at The Oval and I certainly feel less clunky than I did throughout the game."

The pacer, who has played just one Test at Lord's so far, however, is now feeling confident and good about himself shall he gets a chance to play in the second Test.

"Hopefully, that results in some good stuff if and when I play. It's all in good order, it's just about getting some time in the middle when the time comes," added Starc.

Australia, nonetheless, won the first Test by two wickets in a sensational manner. Aussie skipper Pat Cummins, who had hit the winning runs on the final day, even termed the win as 'avenging Headingly 2019'. The second Test starts from June 28 at Lord's in London.

Ashes 2023: 'Been dropped enough,' Aussie pacer Mitchell Starc brushes aside Edgbaston snub

Ace seamer Mitchell Starc got crowned the World Test Champion on Sunday after Australia beat India by 209 runs in the one-off Final at the Oval. Being one of the few Aussie players to lift three ICC trophies, Starc said playing for Australia remains his top choice.

Ace seamer Mitchell Starc got crowned the World Test Champion on Sunday after Australia beat India by 209 runs in the one-off Final at the Oval. Being one of the few Aussie players to lift three ICC trophies, Starc said playing for Australia remains his top choice. Having played the lucrative Indian Premier League (IPL) for just one season in 2014 (for RCB), Starc never opted to play in the tournament again, prioritising his fitness and the international schedule with Australia. “I enjoyed it (IPL), likewise I enjoyed my time in Yorkshire 10 years ago, but Australia will always sit at the top. I don’t regret any of it, money will come and go, but I’m very grateful for the opportunities I’ve had," Starc told The Guardian following the WTC Final in London. ALSO READ: WTC Final: ICC fines players for slow over rate, India's star batsman fined extra Taking pride in being one of Australia’s premier Test bowlers, having won several accolades over the years, Starc remains grateful to represent the Baggy Green. In his latest conversation with the British outlet, Starc added, “Over a hundred years of Test cricket and there’s been less than 500 men who have played it for Australia that in itself makes it very special to be a part of it.” “Franchise cricket is great, but you can be bought or sold or traded in 12 months, whereas this is an opportunity (playing Tests) that I’ve been fortunate enough to have over ten years now to be able to pull on the baggy green with a lot of my close mates, guys I’ve grown up in the game with," the veteran pacer added. ‘Hope kids growing up choose to play Test cricket In this fast-moving age and time, the shortest version of cricket is the go-to format for many young players. With the introduction of several franchise-based T20 leagues, and IPL being one of them, Starc said those platforms provide easy money, especially for the young kids growing up. His inclination, however, will remain towards playing Tests instead. The left-arm seamer, who played 78 Tests, 110 ODIs and 58 T20Is, wishes for young kids to draw inspiration in playing the traditional formats. “The traditionalist in me still hopes there is a generation of boys and girls who want to represent their country in Test cricket. But the easy money is in franchise cricket, it’s the fast track to notoriety," Starc said. Though he didn’t rule out his participation in the Indian Premier League soon, Starc remained firm on not doing that at the expense of the Australian team’s success on the international stage. “I’d certainly love to play in the IPL again, but my goal for a long time has been to be at my best for Australia, no matter the format," Starc said. “There’s nothing I love more in cricket than to sit back with my teammates at the end of a Test win and reflect on the success we’ve had that week. To be able to pull on the baggy green with a lot of my close mates, guys I’ve grown up in the game with," he added. Meanwhile, after winning the WTC Final, Starc’s Australia will take on England in the away Ashes, starting on June 16 in Edgbaston. WATCH WION LIVE HERE:

'Enjoyed my stint in IPL but playing for Australia comes on top,' says World Test Champion Mitchell Starc

Australia’s Mitchell Starc has urged India to be ready for a big total to chase in the fourth innings of the World Test Championship (WTC) final. The Aussies currently leading by 296 runs will look to extend their lead by a significant margin on Day 4 while Starc insisted they have no plans of declaration and India should be ready to chase a big total. As things stand, the Aussies will resume Day 4 of the WTC final at 123/4 and have gained a healthy lead to set an interesting final couple of days of the contest.

<h2>No plans of deceleration</h2>

"I haven't spoken to Pat (captain Pat Cummins) yet, so I don't know and it's not my decision, but I think we will keep batting for now," Starc said to ICC’s channel.

The Indian team was bowled out for 296 runs in their first innings which saw the Aussies take a 173-run lead in the first innings. While things haven’t gone according to plan in the second innings, they will still look to stay on the front foot as India will have to chase a total in excess of 300.

"We have still got two days to play. The weather's been good and I think it's warmer tomorrow. Hopefully, the pitch starts playing a few more tricks but as far as I know it, we are still going to be batting tomorrow.

Starc will then have to play another crucial role with the ball as they try to win the WTC final and clinch another ICC trophy. As things stand, they sit in the driving seat with a potential chance of completing the set of International Cricket Council (ICC) trophies. They have won the ODI World Cup, T20 World Cup, and the T20 World Cup. If they do win the WTC final they will become the first nation to win all the ICC trophies and complete a unique Grand Slam.

<h2>What happened in Australia’s second innings?</h2>

Out to bat in the second innings, the Aussies did not have the best start and lost David Warner (1) in the fourth over as Mohammed Siraj was at full throttle. On the flip side, Umesh Yadav also struck to dismiss Usman Khawaja on 13 to put the Aussies on the back foot. However, the partnership between Steve Smith and Marnus Labuschagne would see Australia close to the 100-run mark. Smith was dismissed on 34 at 86/3 by Ravindra Jadeja. He was soon back in action and scalped Travis Head for 18.

No plans of deceleration "I haven't spoken to Pat (captain Pat Cummins) yet, so I don't know and it's not my decision, but I think we will keep batting for now," Starc said to ICC’s channel. WTC Final: Mitchell Starc warns India ahead of potential big total, says 'we will keep batting for now'

No. 1 ranked India are set to face Australia in the ICC World Test Championship (WTC) final on June 07 at The Oval, London. The match will present India with another chance to end their ICC title drought since 2013. It won't be an easy task as&nbsp;Australia will give them a tough challenge. Ahead of Rohit Sharma &amp; Co.'s final showdown versus the Aussies, former England spinner Monty Panesar picked one X-factor player apiece from both sides.

Panesar -- best known for his 17 scalps in England's famous 2-1 series win over hosts India in 2012/13 -- feels Cheteshwar Pujara will hold the key for India in the marquee finale whereas he picked Mitchell Starc as Australia's X-factor player.

<h2>'My X-factor batter will be Pujara for India. Starc will be one to watch out for from Australia'</h2>

"The Indian top-order is in form. The conditions will be similar to the Wankhede pitch which is fast and bouncy. My x-factor batter will be Pujara because he has done so well in these English conditions for Sussex. He is the guy who binds this batting lineup together," Panesar told PTI.

"He is good with his defence and if the ball is going to do a little bit, he can negotiate the Aussie bowlers and when the pitch is flat, the others can cash in with some attacking cricket. You don't need to be an extraordinary wicketkeeper in England. He has been keeping and batting well. He should play ahead of Bharat," he further mentioned.

"For Australia, Starc will be the one to watch out for. He is going to be quick and he is going to get that late movement. He can change the game with one spell. He is the guy Australia will go to when they need a wicket," Panesar added.

India and Australia locked horns in the red-ball format recently, during the 2022/23 Border-Gavaskar Trophy in India. Back then, Pujara returned with&nbsp;140 runs in 4 matches, with a best of 59 whereas Starc only managed two scalps from an equal number of games. Both will be raring to go big in the WTC final and help their respective sides emerge on top.

WTC Final: Former England spinner names India and Australia's X-factor for mega clash

England and Australia are set to lock horns in the forthcoming Ashes 2023 edition, which will be held in the United Kingdom. Ahead of the upcoming series, England and Aussie players have already got involved in a war of words. Recently, Stuart Broad commented on the bio-bubble arrangements England had to go through when they toured Australia for Ashes 2021. Broad questioned the hard quarantine in place Down Under and called it a 'void series'. Now, Australian pacer Mitchell Starc has hit back at the Englishman and feels England got away with a lot of leeway while they were in quarantine in Australia.

"Nothing was harsher than the last Ashes series. But in my mind, I don’t class that as a real Ashes," Broad was quoted as saying to the Daily Mail last month. He added, "Nothing about that series was high-level performance because of the Covid&nbsp;restrictions. The training facilities, the travel, not being able to socialise. I’ve written it off as a void series."

'Is that an excuse for 4-0': Mitchell Starc hits back at Stuart Broad's bio-bubble remark on Ashes 2021

Skipper Rohit Sharma was left fuming after India were drubbed clinically in the second ODI against Australia by 10 wickets. Rohit lamented that Indian batters didn't apply themselves at all. Among the batsmen who failed, it was Suryakumar Yadav whoes&nbsp;dismissal grabbed eyeballs the most.

The T20 batting phenom got a second consecutive first-ball duck as he did in the first ODI in Mumbai off the same bowler - Mitchell Starc and in exactly the same manner - LBW on an in-swinging delivery.

Talking about him, skipper Sharma said that he'll get enough chances and he knows that he has to perform.

“Of course, he knows that he needs to do while in a slightly longer format of the game as well. I think things are there in his mind as well. Like I said, guys with potential will have enough run where you know they should not feel that ‘Okay, You know I wasn’t given enough chances in that particular slot’,” he added.

Notably, Yadav got into the ODI side in place of injured Shreyas Iyer and skipper Rohit said Surya is getting the chance because of his potential.

“We don’t know about (Shreyas) Iyer’s return. At this time there is a spot available so we have to play him (Suryakumar). He has obviously shown a lot of potential with white ball and I have said it many times before (that) guys with potential will be given some run,” Rohit added.

Sharma also assured Suryakumar of a consistent run in the side to allow him to prove himself.

“Yes he got out in the last two games and the series before that as well, but he needs that consistent run, like back-to-back games, 7-8 or 10 games like that so that, you know, he feels more comfortable. Right now, he has got in the place when someone’s been injured or someone’s not available. As management we can look into the performance when you give that consistent run and then you feel that okay, the runs are not coming and (he’s) not looking comfortable. Then, we will start thinking about it. Right now, we have not gone that route,” Rohit said.

The three-match ODI series is currently level at 1-1 with the final match of the series to be played in Chennai on March 22.

Mitchell Starc’s ninth five-for in ODIs helped Australia win the second match against India by ten wickets in Vizag on Sunday. With this win, the three-match series is tied at one-all, while Chennai will host the the decider on March 22nd. Travis Head and make-shift opener Cameron Green chased down the mere total of 118 in 11 overs. Electing to bowl first after winning the toss, Australia had India’s back against the wall from the word go. After traumatising India in the first ODI with his new ball exploits, Starc began from where he had – accounting for India’s top three inside the fifth over of the innings. Trapping Suryakumar Yadav on a first-ball duck was the highlight of the three. However, soon after Steve Smith plucked a blinder at the first slip to remove Hardik Pandya. Virat Kohli, who scored 31, followed him while Starc and Abbott tore into India’s tail to dismiss them on 117. While Abbott returned with three wickets, veteran Starc picked a five-wicket haul. ALSO READ: IND vs AUS, 2nd ODI: Steve Smith takes a blinder to remove Hardik Pandya - WATCH VIDEO The chase, as expected, went Australia’s way as both openers went berserk. After taking down both Indian seamers with the flood of boundaries inside the first six overs, Mitchell Marsh went after Hardik Pandya, hitting him for three clean massive sixes in this first over. With this, he also completed his fifty off 27 balls. Travis Head then carried the momentum in Axar Patel’s second over by hitting two successive fours. Marsh on the other end didn’t slow down as he whacked left-arm unorthodox Kuldeep Yadav for a monstrous hit over the deep mid wicket area. It was about time before they wrapped up the formalities and handed Australia a massive ten wicket-win in Vizag. Travis Head remained unbeaten 51 off 30 balls hitting ten fours, Mitchell Marsh, the aggressor during this partnership, slammed a 36-ball 66, hitting six sixes and as many fours.

IND vs AUS, 2nd ODI: Mitchell Starc's five-for hands Australia big win in Vizag, series level

India's star T20 batter Suryakumar Yadav failed yet again in ODIs as he got out on the first ball for the second time in a row during the second ODI against Australia off Mitchell Starc in Visakhapatnam. Yadav was trapped LBW for the second consecutive time in as many ODIs by Starc, leaving India three down for 32 in five overs.

In the first ODI as well, Yadav was trapped LBW by Mitchell Starc on the first ball after coming in to bat number four. India were 32/2 with Starc removing skipper Rohit Sharma - who made his comeback in the match after missing out in the first ODI - and sent Yadav packing with an in-swinging delivery.&nbsp;

Yadav had a chat with non-striker Virat Kohli after being given out by the on-filed umpire and decided against taking the review. The hawk-eye later showed that the ball would have hit the middle stump and Yadav's decision to not review the on-field umpire's out call was right. Have a look at the video here:

Starc, who took three wickets in the first ODI, again unleashed fury on the Indian top-order with his menacing bowling as he took out Shubman Gill, Rohit Sharma, Suryakumar Yadav and KL Rahul in just five overs he bowled inside the first 10 overs, giving away only 28 runs.

Gill was first to depart on a duck, falling prey to a loose shot on a wide delivery on the third ball of the match. Kohli and Rohit then steadied the inning, scoring freely before Starc took out both Rohit and Yadav on successive deliveries while bowling a double-wicket maiden fifth over.

KL Rahul, who played a match-winning inning of 75 off 91 balls in the first ODI, was then trapped LBW as well on the fourth ball of the ninth over. Rahul, however, challenged the on-field umpire's decision but alas, the ball was hitting the leg stump and he had to go back.

Vice-captain Hardik Pandya then chased a wide ball from Sean Abbott and Aussie skipper Steve Smith plucked a blinder in the slips and India were left five down for 51 after 10 overs. Virat Kohli, having scored 22 off 23, however, was still on the crease with last match's Player-of-the-Match winner Ravindra Jadeja (2 off 4).

Ind vs Aus, 2nd ODI: HORROR for Suryakumar Yadav as Mitchell Starc again traps him LBW on first ball - WATCH

India have been on the back foot since Day 1 of the third and penultimate Test versus Australia at the Holkar Stadium, Indore. After being all-out for 109, India managed to dismiss Australia for 197; conceding an 88-run lead. Resuming the second day, on Thursday (March 02), Rohit Sharma-led India had a task to not give a sizeable lead to the Aussies, who started the day at 156 for 4. Ravindra Jadeja, R Ashwin and Umesh Yadav starred with the ball to fold the Australian innings for 197 before the lunch break.&nbsp;

While Jadeja provided all the breakthroughs on Day 1, Ashwin-Umesh joined the party on Day 2. Umesh accounted for the wickets of Todd Murphy, Mitchell Starc and Cameron Green. While Green was trapped lbw, Murphy and Starc were cleaned up by the Indian speedster. Umesh produced a jaffa to get rid of Starc, leaving the Aussie shellshocked. Here's the video of the dismissal:

Resuming the second day, on Thursday (March 02), Rohit Sharma-led India had a task to not give a sizeable lead to the Aussies, who started the day at 156 for 4. Ravindra Jadeja, R Ashwin and Umesh Yadav starred with the ball to fold the Australian innings for 197 before the lunch break. IND vs AUS, 3rd Test: UNPLAYABLE! Umesh Yadav sends Mitchell Starc's stumps flying with a jaffa - Watch

Mitchell Starc has declared himself ‘fit-enough’ to be considered for selection for the third Test in Indore that begins on March 1st. Out with a broken finger since playing in the Boxing Day Test against South Africa last year, Starc can’t wait to getting back to the field having already missed first two Tests in the ongoing Border-Gavaskar series. In the absence of the regular skipper, Pat Cummins, who flew home to be with his ailing mother, Starc’s presence in the XI would boost the confidence in the Aussie camp. However, the seamer, in his latest discussion with SEN Cricket, admitted that he is not 100% fit but enough to get going at the Holkar Stadium.

The left-arm pacer said his recovery took longer than what he would have liked, and that he remained patient with the same.

"It's all right, it's good enough. Good to go, that'll do for selection. It's a Test match, so it'll be good. The progress was slower than what I would have liked, but I am quite patient in that regard, so it is still progressing, but it has progressed enough to be comfortable playing, Hopefully, I can play a role with this team," Mitchell Starc told SEN Cricket.

Starc said even ahead of the Delhi Test he was physically and mentally ready to play but it’s good that he didn’t because that bought him extra time to work on his fitness and get accustomed to the discomfort of the injured finger.

"The fact that I was not required last week gave me an opportunity for another week to prepare and progress, and get accustomed to the discomfort. I certainly felt that I was ready to go physically and mentally before the last Test itself," he added.

Meanwhile, not only Cummins, Australia will also miss the services of opener David Warner, who got out ruled out due to concussion and injury to his left arm, and Ashton Agar, who also flew home to take part in Sheffield Shield game for Western Australia. Whereas, Cameron Green is declared fit and Mitchell Swepson, who also went home following the first Test for the birth of his first child, has returned for the remainder of Tests.

IND vs AUS: Almost fit-enough Mitchell Starc raring to hit deck in Indore Test

Rohit Sharma-led India will take on Australia in the second Test at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in New Delhi&nbsp;from February 17. After gaining a 1-0 lead in the Nagpur series opener, India will be eager to strengthen their chances of reaching the WTC final and consolidating their overall lead. Ahead of the match, head coach Rahul Dravid addressed a&nbsp;press conference and was asked to comment on the lack of left-arm pacers in the Indian camp.&nbsp;

At present, India have only Jaydev Unadkat in the&nbsp;Test squad who is a left-arm seamer. However, he has also been released for the ongoing Ranji Trophy final&nbsp;between Saurashtra and Bengal at the Eden Gardens, Kolkata. Apart from Unadkat, India have tried the likes of T Natarajan, Khaleel Ahmed and Arshdeep Singh but the latter is the only left-arm speedster who has earned a considerable run in recent times. Dravid spoke at length about left-arm pacers and said, "A left arm fast bowler brings a lot of variation. You forgot the name of Zaheer Khan. But selectors and management definitely watch out for these talents. Arshdeep Singh played well in the recent ODIs, he also played Ranji Trophy, where he picked 4-5 wickets. He's young, he's developing."

Just then, Dravid was interrupted by a journalist who mentioned about Mitchell Starc and Shaheen Afridi and&nbsp;how these left-arm seamers have done well against India. To this, the head coach came up with a hilarious reply. "Agar 6 foot 4 inch bowler hain aapke paas toh aap batado&nbsp;(If you know a fast bowler who is 6 foot 4 inch, let us know). IND vs AUS, 2nd Test: Rahul Dravid shares epic response to reporter's question on Starc and Shaheen

India’s run in Tests at home is exceptional – let alone losing a Test match in a series, the Indian team hasn’t lost a Test series at home since losing to England 11 years back in 2012. Australia, considered as the most dominant unit in this game, has had their struggles against India in India. Having last won a Test series in this part of the world almost two decades back, the Oz are now aiming to break the ice in the upcoming Border-Gavaskar series, which is scheduled to begin in Nagpur on February 9th.

In a recent video uploaded by the Cricket Australia, the touring side was asked about their opinions on a Test series win in India – to which a few of the star players shared their thoughts. Former captain and arguably the best Test batter now, Steve Smith said winning a Test in India let alone a series is very difficult in itself. He added that a Test series win in India is clearly bigger than winning an away Ashes.

Mitchell Starc, on the other hand, said India is hardest place to travel in world cricket, and that, playing a series here would be very special for the group.

Meanwhile, Starc is currently nursing a finger injury he endured during the Boxing Day Test against South Africa, and as a result, will miss the first Test. Alongside him, seamer Josh Hazlewood and all-rounder Cameron Green will also be out of reckoning for the Nagpur game.

"Playing a series In India would be very special to our group. I think it's always been a bit of a crown jewel for Australian touring teams. It's one of if not the hardest place to play away with such foreign conditions, how strong the Indian team are at the moment as well. For our group particularly the way we sit at the minute and how we are building as a group, learning and adapting and bringing that experience. I think it will be extremely special," Mitchell Starc said.

Australia has won just two Test series in India, once in 1969 and then in 2004. Their last Test win came in Pune 2017 while they lost the series 1-2. During India’s next two visits Down Under in 2018 and 2020, they remained on the top and achieved the unimaginable i.e. winning the Test series on both occasions including winning at their fortress at Gabba in Brisbane the last time around.

'India is the hardest place to travel; win in India is bigger than winning Ashes' - Oz cricketers ahead of BGT

Ace Aussie speedster Mitchell Starc is ruled out of the first Test against India starting on February 9th in Nagpur. During the recently-concluded Australia Cricket Awards in Sydney, Starc provided an update on his finger injury he sustained during the Boxing Day Test against South Africa at the MCG. When asked if he will be available for the first Test, the left-armer said the healing hasn’t completed it and will take time, which clearly rules him out until the Delhi Test that begins on February 17th. Alongside Starc, all-rounder Cameron Green also suffered a finger injury during the same Test, and his chances of playing in the first match look bleak too.

"I am track..still a couple of weeks and then probably meet the guys in Delhi..after..hopefully, a first Test match win..get myself into training over there," Starc said during the Australia Cricket Awards on Monday.

Before flying to India for the marquee Border-Gavaskar series, the Australian team attended a pre-series&nbsp;training camp in Sydney that was&nbsp;staged by the Australian team management. As some images of the pitches they are preparing on got surfaced on the internet lately, it looks the Oz know what they are heading into and what challenges await them..

Speaking about what are his and team’s expectations from the upcoming India series, Starc said, "I guess you never really know what to expect from the conditions in India but we have a fair idea that it is obviously going to turn. You never quite know until you start the game or decide which wicket to play on. So, it is going to be a great challenge."

Meanwhile, in their quest to end the losing streak against India (having lost previous three Test series, including two at home), Australia named a strong 18-man squad, and Starc feels the team is in a good position.

“The team is in as good a position that we can be heading into an Indian tour. It’s exciting with the women going for the World Cup and we have a long tour of India. So plenty of good cricket to watch over the next couple of months, so we’re just wishing for some good success for Australia," the fast bowler added.

IND vs AUS 2023: Mitchell Starc ruled out of 1st Test against India in Nagpur

On Wednesday (January 11), Australia announced a strong 18-man squad for their forthcoming four-match Test series versus India, starting on February 09. The last three editions of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy have been won by India and with them hosting it this time around, after 2017, Rohit Sharma &amp; Co. will be confident but Pat Cummins-led Aussies have been in superb form of late and, hence, will surely pose a major threat to Team India. The series holds a lot of significance with the ICC World Test Championship final to be held in June 2023. India and Australia are expected to meet in the summit clash.

Australia have included as many as four spinners. Nathan Lyon, Ashton Agar, Mitchell Swepson and uncapped spinner&nbsp;Todd Murphy have been named in the 18-member squad&nbsp;for the matches in Nagpur, New Delhi, Dharamshala and Ahmedabad, respectively. The series will be followed by three ODIs before IPL 2023's commencement. It is to be noted that this will be the last BGT comprising four Tests as the editions to follow will comprise five matches. Head selector George Bailey spoke at length about the retention of Ashton Agar -- who went wicketless in the rain-marred Australia-South Africa SCG Test -- the addition of Peter Handscomb and spinner Swepson. "Ashton Agar continues to impress following his comeback in Sydney and we believe left-arm finger spin will play an important role in Indian conditions,"&nbsp;Bailey said in a news release. "Todd Murphy has progressed quickly having impressed in domestic cricket and recently with Australia A. With those performances Todd has emerged as a strong spin option. Selection in this squad also provides another opportunity to spend time alongside Nathan Lyon and assistant coach Daniel Vettori in India, which will be invaluable to his development."

Bailey added, "Peter Handscomb deserves his place back in the squad. His domestic form has been strong recently and Pete has proven he can perform at test level. His experience against spin on the subcontinent is valuable and he is also an exceptionally good close-to-the-wicket catcher."

Further, Mitchell Starc has been ruled out of the first Test due to a finger injury but is expected to join the team after the series opener. He remains part of the squad. The pace-bowling department comprise Cummins, Scott Boland, Josh Hazlewood whereas Steve Smith, David Warner, Usman Khawaja, Matt Renshaw and Travis Head will be their main batters. Cameron Green has&nbsp;also been selected in the hope that he will recover from his broken finger.

"Ashton Agar continues to impress following his comeback in Sydney and we believe left-arm finger spin will play an important role in Indian conditions," Bailey said in a news release. "Todd Murphy has progressed quickly having impressed in domestic cricket and recently with Australia A. With those performances Todd has emerged as a strong spin option. Selection in this squad also provides another opportunity to spend time alongside Nathan Lyon and assistant coach Daniel Vettori in India, which will be invaluable to his development." Bailey added, "Peter Handscomb deserves his place back in the squad. His domestic form has been strong recently and Pete has proven he can perform at test level. His experience against spin on the subcontinent is valuable and he is also an exceptionally good close-to-the-wicket catcher." Further, Mitchell Starc has been ruled out of the first Test due to a finger injury but is expected to join the team after the series opener. He remains part of the squad. IND vs AUS: Cummins & Co. include four spinners in squad for Border-Gavaskar Trophy; Starc out of 1st Test

Ace Australian bowler Mitchell Starc has indicated that he could miss the first Test against India in Nagpur that starts on February 9th, following his finger injury. Starc’s left hand’s middle finger got injured during the Boxing Day Test against South Africa that ruled him out from the following match at the SCG as well. With doubts rising over his participation in the all-important Border-Gavaskar trophy, Starc addressed the issue and informed it is unlikely he will be fit in time for the first Test.

The seamer said he will get a better clarity about the extent of his injury by the end of this month. Alongside Starc, all-rounder Cameron Green also suffered a hand injury in the same match, ruling him out from the Sydney game. Though both are unlikely to feature in the first Test, they could still play some role in the matches to follow.

Speaking to AAP at the launch of Amazon Prime’s ‘The Test’ documentary, Starc said, "That is probably likely (I will miss the first Test). We will see how we are placed at the end of the month. Hopefully I am there for the second Test if they want to play me. Maybe I can make some footmarks for Gazza (Lyon) or something. We will see how the finger is."

Meanwhile, Australia Test captain Pat Cummins also spoke on the possible bowling line-up on the sub-continent tracks during the Test series. Hinting they might ploy the two seamers-two spinners’ strategy against India, Cummins added there would be no workload concerns. The fast bowler further said having the luxury of part-timers in Travis Head, Marnus Labuschagne and Steve Smith, Australia could use them on those turning pitches.

"Over there, you pick two spinners. You think it is going to be quite a spinning wicket," Cummins said.

"Travis Head, Marnus (Labuschagne), Smudge (Steve Smith). They all come into it a bit more. Generally if you are picking two spinners you are not expecting it to be a long game," he added.

IND vs AUS 2023: Mitchell Starc likely to be out of Nagpur Test following finger injury

Spin-bowling all-rounder Ashton Agar and opener Matthew Renshaw were called up to the Australia squad on Friday for the third Test against South Africa with Cameron Green and Mitchell Starc ruled out injured. Pace spearhead Josh Hazlewood, meanwhile, has recovered from a side strain that kept him out of the last two Tests and is expected to play in Sydney next week.

Australia has already won the three-Test series after a six-wicket victory at Brisbane and by an innings and 182 runs in Melbourne.

Green, who didn't bowl in South Africa's second innings in Melbourne, has a fractured right index finger.

Starc bowled 18 overs with a bruised and bloodied finger that officials have now revealed was also fractured. Both players will be sidelined for weeks and are racing against the clock to be ready for Australia's blockbuster Test tour of India in February.

"Ashton offers a second spin option should the Sydney pitch be conducive to turn, as it has done in the past. He also brings a solid batting component," said selector Tony Dodemaide.

"Matthew is included as a versatile batting option who is in good form, including an unbeaten century in the recent PM's XI tour match against the West Indies."

Renshaw has played 11 Tests, but not since 2018 against South Africa, while Agar has featured four times, with his last Test in 2017 in Bangladesh.

With Hazlewood recovered from a side strain and the uncapped Lance Morris -- touted as the most exciting fast bowler in Australia -- also in the squad, selectors have plenty of options.

"In terms of fast bowlers, it's a blessing to have Josh returning, while Lance offers a genuine point of difference with his raw pace and skill," said Dodemaide. "This squad will cover all bases for when we get to Sydney and assess the conditions closer to the Test match."

Australia jolted with two huge blows as their all-rounder Cameron Green and seamer Mitchell Starc are out of the ongoing Test series against South Africa due to finger injuries. Mitchell Starc, who injured his finger while fielding bowled more overs than anyone else during the Tests, an effort that is lauded by captain Pat Cummins as 'brave'. "I've had a lot of painkillers. I could have jabbed it but I feel like I need the feeling of the ball on finger, otherwise I feel like I would have been spraying it everywhere."

Mitchell Starc to Trent Boult: Top contenders to finish as highest wicket-taker at T20 World Cup 2022

Mitchell Starc reignited the debate over Deepti Sharma's run out of England batter Charlotte Dean at the non-striker's end after he used her name in warning England Jos Buttler during the third T20I between Australia and England on Friday. Starc warned Buttler over leaving his crease early at the non-striker's end, stating that he is not Deepti but that the England skipper should not back up too far before the delivery was bowled.

Deepti had run Dean out at the non-striker's end during the third ODI between India and England at the Lord's Cricket Ground in London, triggering mixed reactions from the cricket fraternity. While several English players criticised Deepti for going against the 'spirit of the game' with her actions, the Indian all-rounder also received support from many.

Despite ICC changing the rules and recognising a bowler running a batter on the non-striker's end as a proper run-out, opinions have been divided over the controversial mode of dismissal which was referred to as 'Mankad' earlier.

On Friday, Starc caught Buttler laving the crease too early on the non-striker's end but decided against running him out. However, the Australian warned him for his actions and used Deepti's name during the argument, leaving many Indian fans disappointed.

"I am not Deepti, but I won't do it. Doesn't mean you can leave early," Starc was caught telling Buttler on the stump mic during the game.

Former India cricketer Hemang Badani was furious with Starc's decision to use Deepti's name during the argument as he slammed the Australian pacer and advised him to 'grow up'. Badani said Starc should not have brought Deepti's name in the argument even if he just wanted to warn Buttler and not run him out.

"Grow up Starc. That’s really poor from you. What Deepti did was well within the rules of the game. If you only want to warn the non striker and not get him out that’s fine and your decision to make but you bringing Deepti into this isn’t what the cricket world expects of you," Badani, who played 4 Tests and 40 ODIs for India, wrote in a tweet.

Run-out at&nbsp;the non-striker's end has since become a huge topic of debate in the cricket fraternity with mixed reactions from former and current cricketers. However, the mode of dismissal is within the rules and can be used by bowlers to stop the batters from taking undue advantage.

Mitchell Starc reignited the debate over Deepti Sharma's run out of England batter Charlotte Dean at the non-striker's end after he used her name in warning England Jos Buttler during the third T20I between Australia and England on Friday.

Former India cricketer Hemang Badani was furious with Starc's decision to use Deepti's name during the argument as he slammed the Australian pacer and advised him to 'grow up'. 'Grow up': Ex-India cricketer slams Mitchell Starc for using Deepti Sharma's name in warning Jos Buttler

Australian pacer Mitchell Starc issued a cheeky warning to England batter Jos Buttler about leaving the crease early at the non-striker's end during the third and final T20I between the two sides at the Manuka Oval in Canberra on Friday. The game ended in a no-result after rain hampered the proceedings.

England batted first in the rain-marred encounter which was earlier reduced to a 12-overs-a-side contest. During England's innings, Starc was heard warning Buttler about leaving the crease early at the non-striker's end. The Australian pacer cheekily referred to Indian women's team all-rounder Deepti Sharma while warning Buttler.

The incident happened during the fifth over of England's innings when Buttler was at the non-striker's end with Dawid Malan facing Starc. The left-arm pacer spotted Buttler leaving the crease early and warned him to stay inside the crease. However, Buttler refused Starc's claim and said he was not backing up too much.

"I'm not Deepti, but I won't do it. That doesn't mean you can leave early," Starc was caught telling Buttler on the stump mic as he walked back to bowl the fifth delivery of the over.

"I don't think I did," Buttler responded.

"Selectors felt with three games in six days across three cities -- including travel to India and internally -- Marsh, Stoinis and Starc are best served remaining in Australia to prepare for the ICC Men`s T20 World Cup," said a statement from Cricket Australia (CA).

Earlier, a report in cricket.com.au said pacer Nathan Ellis, all-rounders Daniel Sams, and Sean Abbott will be the replacements for the injured trio on their trip to India, with matches to take place on September 20, 23 and 25 in Mohali, Nagpur and Hyderabad respectively.

The last time Australia played a T20I series against India, it was in 2019, where Australia won two-match series 2-0.

Marsh and Stoinis were injured during Australia`s ODI series against Zimbabwe at Townsville and against New Zealand at Cairns. But Starc, their pace spearhead, is a late exclusion from the tour to India after a scan on his knee in Sydney on Wednesday.

The trios absence means that Australia will have some changes to their desired playing eleven on tour of India.

"The absence of Stoinis all-but guarantees Tim David will make his Australian debut on the tour as a middle-order finisher, and gives him the chance to make it difficult for Stoinis to force his way back into the side."

"Marsh`s absence could see Steve Smith move back up to No.3 with allrounder Cameron Green coming into the side, while Josh Inglis is likely to partner Aaron Finch at the top of the order with Warner rested from the tour for family time," added the report.

Australian pacer Mitchell Starc breaks record, scalps 200 wickets in just 102 ODIs

Pakistan was 268 all out against the persistent pace of Australia captain Pat Cummins and impeccable reverse swing of Mitchell Starc to concede a massive 123-run lead on Wednesday in the third and final test.

In a sensational collapse after tea on Day 3, Pakistan lost seven wickets for 41 runs&nbsp;(the last four wickets without adding a run)&nbsp;as Cummins finished with 5-56 and Starc took 4-36.

Australia had stretched its lead to 134 runs by reaching 11-0 by stumps with Usman Khawaja not out on 7 and David Warner unbeaten on 4.

In-form opening batter Abdullah Shafique (81) and veteran Azhar Ali (78) had carried Pakistan to 170-1 and denied Australia a breakthrough in the first session after resuming on 90-1 before the visitors took control of the series-deciding test.

Shafique's prolific run in the series has seen the opening batter score his maiden test hundred in the drawn first test in Rawalpindi before his patient 96 in Karachi led Pakistan to force a draw.

Shafique defied Australia with yet another patient knock off 228 balls which featured 11 fours before Lyon struck in the fifth over after lunch and successfully overturned umpire Aleem Dar's not out decision through a television referral.

With the second new ball only seven overs old, Cummins took a spectacular return catch to dismiss Azhar in his homecoming test match as Pakistan was restricted at 227-3 at tea.

Azhar, playing in his 94th test match but for the first time in his hometown of Lahore, became the fifth Pakistani batter to complete 7,000 test runs when he reached 74 by sweeping hard at Lyon to deep square leg for a single.

Former test captains Younis Khan (10,099), Javed Miandad (8,832), Inzamam-ul-Haq (8,829) and Mohammad Yousuf (7,530) are the other Pakistan batters to score more than 7,000 test runs.

Starc, who bowled only two overs with the second new ball, returned in the last session and knocked back the off stumps of Fawad Alam (13) and Mohammad Rizwan (1) with Pakistan batters struggling to cope with the reverse swing.

Pakistan's long tail didn't last long with captain Babar Azam making a 67 off 131 balls. The home team had dropped all-rounder Faheem Ashraf to go with an extra fast bowler after drawing the first two test matches.

Cummins hurried the collapse by claiming the wickets of Sajid Khan, Nauman Ali and Hasan Ali within two overs to register his first five-wicket haul against Pakistan in a test match.

Starc wrapped up Pakistan's innings by trapping Babar leg before wicket off a delivery which shaped into the skipper and then clean bowled No. 11 batter Naseem Shah off a searing full pitched delivery.

Cummins, Starc put Australia in prime position after Pakistan's batting collapse on Day 3 of 3rd Test

The second and penultimate Test between Pakistan and Australia, in Karachi, went down to the wire as the Babar Azam-led hosts made a match out of it when play resumed on Day Five, with the score being 192 for 2 in pursuit of a daunting 506-run target. Riding on skipper Babar's impressive and gritty 196 and Mohammad Rizwan's 104 not out, Pakistan managed to give a scare to Pat Cummins-led Aussies before settling for a draw at 443-7.&nbsp;

After Babar's recent heroics, he has won hearts once again worldwide as his stature continues to rise with each passing day. Thus, former Pakistan spinner Saeed Ajmal lavished huge praise on Babar and has placed him on the same level as Virat Kohli. Following his 196 versus Australia, many have raised voices that Babar deserves to enter the Fab Four batters in the modern era (comprising Kohli, Kane Williamson, Joe Root and Steve Smith).

In this regard, Ajmal spoke highly of Babar and also lauded young guns such as Md Rizwan and speedster Shaheen Shah Afridi.

"Such players are very rare to grace an era. Such players are very rare. The greatest of this era are Virat Kohli, Babar Azam; even Mohammad Rizwan has shown such great improvement in the last year, year and a half. He is the most improved cricketer in world cricket. He has proven himself in every format. He has aggression and calmness at the same time. He has everything and has performed well. But having said that, what Babar Azam has achieved in the last year is worth appreciating," Ajmal told Cricket Pakistan.

"If you talk about bowlers… among spinner, Nathan Lyon has delivered impressive performances over the last five years. Among pacers, players like Shaheen Afridi, Mitchell Starc and Jasprit Bumrah have given match-winning performances," he further asserted.

'Greatest of this era are Virat Kohli, Babar Azam' - Former spinner heaps praise on Pakistan captain

Australian pacer Mitchell Starc made a startling revelation about almost giving up on playing cricket after winning the prestigious Allan Border medal on Saturday (January 29). Starc was named Australia's Male Cricketer of The Year 2021 for his brilliant performances across all formats last year.

Starc took 43 wickets across all formats for Australia in 2021 to become only the fifth bowler in history to clinch the top honour at the Cricket Australia awards on Saturday. Despite being one of the senior members in the current Aussie squad, Starc won the Male Cricketer of the Year award for the first time in his career this time around.

Starc, however, didn't have a fairytale journey to the top honour and had to deal with his own share of struggles. The left-arm pacer recalled up and downs he had to undergo on and off-field, and revealed he was almost on the verge of giving up cricket. Starc revealed he thought he would never play cricket again at one stage last year.

I'm not really sure what words to say at the moment. It was a huge surprise. To look at some of those names who have won it before, it'll take a bit to sink in. Hugely honoured to receive this award," Starc said on Channel 7.

“Obviously last year was particularly tough on and off the field. I probably didn’t play the cricket I wanted to and, at certain stages, I probably didn’t want to play cricket at all,” he added.

Starc has faced intense criticism from former Australian spinner Shane Warne, who had recently suggested that the left-arm seamer should be replaced by &nbsp;Jhye Richardson in the Gabba Test of the recently-concluded Ashes 2021-22. Starc responded in brilliant fashion and enjoyed a great Ashes, picking up 19 wickets in five matches to finish as the second-highest wicket-taker in the series.

“It doesn’t interest me at all. He’s entitled to his opinion," Starc said when asked about Warne's criticism of him.

“I’m just going to go about my cricket the way I’d like to, and I’ve got my family support networks and I get to play cricket with some of my best mates, so I’m pretty comfortable with where I’m at," he added.
