Earlier, during the India Test in Delhi in February, he got a knock to his hand off Mohammed Shami's rising bouncer that ruled him out of the remainder of the India tour. He also revealed he had his hand covered in an ice bucket throughout the afternoon following his dismissal. "It's copped a battering the last two games, and in the nets, so it's a little bit sore at the moment, a bit of a bruise but I'll just see how we go after the game, and I think we'll examine it then," Warner said. "At the moment it's quite tender. "[I was] never in doubt, [but] it was quite sore. Initially, it was more in the palm, I've got a hotspot where my thumb is and every time the ball hits the bat it just jars. Then today I got hit back in the knuckle, which I think Mohammed Shami hit me [on] in that World Test Championship. "I've had my hand in an ice bucket all afternoon, so we'll play it by ear and assess it after the game," the veteran batter added. Warner nearing his best form Having already announced his retirement plans ahead of the away Ashes, Warner said the past six to eight months have been better in terms of him being in good form and the right space. Besides using his hands well, which he does quite often, Warner said feels his feet movement helped the cause too. Although he hasn’t scored a big total in this format lately, with him feeling confident about his game, Warner is sure a game-changing knock is just around the corner. "I've felt in total control the last six to eight months with where my game is. I'm moving into the ball, my feet are moving, not just playing with my hands," he said. "I felt like I was onto something special in the World Test Championship final. And then the last game, the same thing. I feel like everything I'm putting in the nets is actually coming out there in the middle. Debutant Josh Tongue (2 for 88) looked good whereas Joe Root picked two wickets in an over towards the end of Day 1 otherwise Australia had been in a more commanding position at the time of stumps.&nbsp;

England will be desperate to dismiss the Australian line-up for less than 400 but it looks an improbable task at the moment. For Australia, they will target anything over 450 with Smith well settled in the middle.

Three people have been arrested after chaos broke out on Day 1 of the second Ashes Test at Lord’s as the Just Stop Oil protesters invaded the pitch on Wednesday, June 28. The incident that took place in the first session of Day 1 saw three people invade the pitch after England chose to bowl, having won the toss. The protesters were seen throwing orange powder while England wicketkeeper Jonny Bairstow lifted one of the protesters off the field before the game resumed in the first session.

The Metropolitan Police said three people were arrested following the incident and taken into custody. The protesters were wearing Just Stop Oil t-shirts. Another protester was stopped by security staff before being taken away from the ground.

The protest took place at the end of the first over as two people entered the pitch while a third approached the centre with orange powder. The contest was then halted for nearly 10 minutes while Bairstow stole the spotlight as he carried one of the protesters outside the field. The English wicketkeeper soon approached the dressing room as he changed gears having carried stained clothes after the incident. The action resumed as soon as Bairstow was back on the field while rain would become another barrier in the contest.

The protest recently took centre stage as protestors invaded the world snooker championship and the English Premiership rugby final.

Just Stop Oil opposes the United Kingdom granting new fossil fuel licensing and production agreements and was founded in February 2022. Protesting at oil terminals was the primary location for the protestors but have recently started to protest at different events including sports. The group has faced criticism for blocking roads and vandalism.

Wednesday’s incident is not the first time English cricketers have been part of it, earlier their team bus was blocked from reaching the Lord’s Cricket Ground when they were to face Ireland. The incident took place on June 1 and saw Ben Stokes and Co from reaching the venue.

The International Cricket Council (ICC) also took considerable measures before the start of the World Test Championship (WTC) final earlier in the month as they prepared two pitches for the contest. The contest between India and Australia was played in London’s iconic Oval Stadium.

"Just before I go, I want to make it clear I have not read the report as it only came out last night,” Stokes said before starting his press conference on Tuesday.

"To the people involved in the game who have been made to feel unwelcome or unaccepted in the past, I am deeply sorry to hear of your experiences. Cricket is a game that needs to celebrate diversity on all fronts because, without diversity, this game would not be where it is at today,” Stokes added.

The 317-page report, titled "Holding Up A Mirror To Cricket", features evidence from more than 4,000 people, including players, coaches, administrators and fans, and drills deep into the sport's historical structural inequalities.

"As a sport, we need to learn from past mistakes and do all we can to make people feel safe and be themselves at every level. I have been an England player since 2011 and I feel very fortunate to have been a part of some incredibly diverse teams and love how everyone has a different story to tell,” said the England captain.

With team doctors running onto the field, Smith was down and was taken off immediately. Though he returned after the fall of the next wicket, following smashing Chris Woakes for a boundary, Smith got out LBW on 88. He then got ruled out of the game due to a concussion. Now, Indian off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin has opened up on what exactly happened between Bumrah and Anderson at Lord's.&nbsp;

During a discussion with India's fielding coach Ramakrishnan Sridhar on his YouTube channel, Ashwin revealed what went wrong and why Anderson was furious.&nbsp;

"Brushing him aside, he told him, "You bowl only 85MPH to the other batters, you are bowling 90mph to me. This is cheating, I won't accept," he added.&nbsp;

Ashwin said, "The thing is, Jimmy could have stopped with asking why Bumrah bowled so fast at him. But he also left few words along with that (words that can't be disclosed on the show). That fired the boys up."

Sridhar also explained the unwritten rule amongst fast bowlers as he said, "Previously, there was this unwritten rule amongst fast bowlers: The fast bowlers club. Ruth Strauss Foundation was established by former England captain Andrew Strauss after his wife, Ruth, passed away at the age of 46 in 2018 from a non-smoking lung cancer.&nbsp;

The aim of the foundation aims to raise awareness about the non-smoking lung cancers and also raise funds for research. The foundation also offers emotional support to bereaved families.&nbsp;

India's opening pair was brilliant as Rohit Sharma also made superb 83 runs for a 126-run stand with Rahul, which laid foundation for the Indian side. It was India's first-century opening partnership in a Test outside Asia since 2010.&nbsp;

KL Rahul struck some magnificent shots to complete his sixth century in 38 Tests. Not just that, he became India's third centurion as an opener at Lord's and also equalled former cricketer Virender Sehwag in the list of most hundreds outside Asia. Now, Sehwag and Rahul have four Test tons outside Asia while playing as openers in whites. Sunil Gavaskar sits on top of the list with 15 centuries outside Asia.

India vs England: 'I think India will be favourites moving forward in this Test series', says Inzamam-ul-Haq

Marnus Labuschagne made history as international cricket's first concussion substitute before his valuable fifty helped Australia draw the second Ashes Test against England at Lord's on Sunday.

Labuschagne was not confirmed as playing until Sunday morning when Australia star Steve Smith was ruled out with concussion, having been hit by a Jofra Archer bouncer during his 92 on Saturday.

Previously, a substitute would only have been permitted to field.

But this series is the first in the ICC's inaugural World Test Championship featuring new rules that allow replacement players to bat or bowl if they are covering for concussed team-mates.

Labuschagne, in just his sixth Test, responded to his late call-up by top-scoring with 59, having been hit on the grille of his helmet second ball by a 91.6 mph Archer bouncer, in Australia's eventual second-innings 154-6.

"Marnus played superbly," said Australia captain Tim Paine.

"He got hit hard in the face second ball and I thought he showed great character, great skill and technique."

England pressed hard late on to level the series at 1-1 after captain Joe Root declared to set Australia a stiff target of 267 in 48 overs following Ben Stokes's 115 not out.

It seemed the match was destined for a draw, with Australia 132-3 after tea in a Test where five sessions were washed out and rain also delayed Sunday's start by over an hour.

But Australia, who won the first Test at Edgbaston by a huge margin of 251 runs, lost three wickets for 17 runs to give England renewed hope.

Come the last over, bowled by left-arm spinner Jack Leach, England needed four wickets for victory, but Pat Cummins played out three deliveries to secure the draw.&nbsp;

Fast bowler Archer took 3-32 to finish with five wickets on his Test debut, with Leach returning figures of 3-37.

"I think it was important that we bounced back strongly and I think we've certainly done that," said Root.

Given the short turnaround, Smith, out for under a hundred for the first time this series on Saturday, could now miss the third Test in Leeds starting on Thursday.

His absence would be a huge blow to Australia, bidding for their first Ashes series win in England in 18 years, given he made 144 and 142 at Edgbaston in his first Test since completing a 12-month ban for his role in a ball-tampering scandal in South Africa.

"I'm not sure about Headingley," said Paine.&nbsp;

"He (Smith) will need to improve, there's no doubt about that. Hopefully for our sake he does."

Later Sunday, Cricket Australia said: "Steve Smith had a precautionary scan of his neck on Sunday which, as expected, cleared him of any structural damage.

"After the scan Steve returned to the team hotel to rest and he will continue to be reviewed on an ongoing basis."

'It was frightening'

World Cup winner Archer took two for two in seven balls on Sunday to dismiss David Warner and Usman Khawaja.&nbsp;&nbsp;

"It is brilliant to have someone like that in the team," said Stokes of Archer as he recalled the 24-year-old paceman's rapid spell on Saturday.&nbsp;

"He bowled a nine over spell at 90mph-plus. It was frightening. I would much rather have him on our side."

The first over after tea saw struggling opener Cameron Bancroft (16) plumb lbw to a Leach ball that kept low, with Australia 47-3.

But it seemed any hope of an England win had disappeared when Jason Roy dropped a routine chance at second slip to reprieve Travis Head on 22. Head was 42 not out at stumps.

"Mo loves playing for Worcestershire and he gives a lift to everyone in the dressing room when he comes back and plays for us. We look forward to when he returns soon."

Moeen is the world's leading Test wicket-taker over the past 12 months, with 48 scalps in 10 matches at an average of 25.27.

However, he has struggled for form in recent outings and was dropped during the World Cup over concerns about his batting.

In Tests, he has registered seven single-figure scores in his past nine innings, with his career average dipping below 30.

"If you don't have a good 10 overs (in white-ball cricket) that's it. You've got to wait to the next game, but you've ample chances in Test cricket.

"I'm more ready than I've ever been.

"I bowled 50 overs in one game for Sussex and am the one usually bowling at the end.

"Test cricket is pretty much the same as first-class. Know what your strengths are and stick to them."

Archer, whose father Frank is British, became eligible to play for England under the three-year residency rule earlier this year.&nbsp;

He said Lord's brought back happy memories of England's victory over New Zealand in a thrilling World Cup final in July during which Archer was entrusted with bowling the Super Over which clinched the trophy.

"The first one (appearance) is always special, and (to be) at Lord's where we had recent success will be comforting as well," said Archer.

"It's a good ground to come back to, and hopefully keep our winning ways here.

"I'll try and work miracles but I can only give my best."
