Rupi Kaur, in a post on X (formerly Twitter), wrote that she "received an invite from the Biden administration for a Diwali event being held by the VP on Nov 8."

The elaborate post included a letter in which Kaur expressed surprise at the celebration of Diwali amid ongoing conflict in Gaza that has claimed thousands of lives so far.&nbsp;

"I’m surprised this administration finds it acceptable to celebrate Diwali, when their support of the current atrocities against Palestinians represent(s) the exact opposite of what this holiday means to many of us." She added: "I refuse any invitation from an institution that supports the collective punishment of a trapped civilian population – 50 per cent of whom are children."

"As a community, we cannot remain silent or agreeable just to get a seat at the table," Kaur said. "It comes at too high a cost to human life."

Asked how social media is making this war different from the previous ones Israel was involved in, &nbsp; Ian Bremmer, the founder and president of Eurasia Group, &nbsp;a political risk research and consulting firm, told WION it is "a horrible challenge and getting much worse".

"Information generated on social media becomes a tool for manipulation and spreading predefined geopolitical narratives to specific audience and population," Gene Yoo, the CEO of Resecurity, an American cybersecurity company with a focus on next-generation endpoint protection and intelligence-driven solutions, told WION.&nbsp;

"Such activity also took place in period of election campaigns and important social events such as pandemics and disasters, when the bad actors can also buy or steal specific data and use it for further targeting to accomplish own goals."&nbsp;

Yoo said the tactics of bad actors involved in misinformation have become more advanced. "Based on our assessment, the bad actors may leverage a wide range of tools and resources to target desktop and mobile-based channels to spread misinformation. Typically, one of the main goals of such activity is to generate chaos and influence specific narratives using digital media channels".&nbsp;

"Data science and Artificial Intelligence could be helpful in the analysis of big volumes of data coming from social media and alternative digital channels," he said.&nbsp;

He also suggested that in addition to technology, it is critical to have domain experts and industry professionals who will be able to independently validate the content.&nbsp;

He added that collaboration is also an important component of collecting required feedback and disseminating it between the key parties involved.&nbsp;

Yoo explained with an example. During the Israel-Hamas war, he said, several misinformation campaigns were detected, targeting Saudi Arabia, UAE, Thailand, India and other countries. Iran asks India to 'use all its capacities' to end Israel's attack on Gaza

A video of a former IDF soldier was shared on social media in which he was seen supporting the Palestinians amid the escalating Israel-Hamas war. &nbsp;&nbsp;

In the video, the former IDF soldier – identified as Leif Manson – was seen carrying a Palestinian flag and expressing his disappointment with Israel.

In the video, the former soldier said, “I am probably the only person with a Palestinian flag and I am also the only Israeli citizen here. Around, 40 years ago I was a soldier in the IDF. At that time, everybody wanted a peace settlement with Egypt to be made and the next step was to have peace with the Palestinians.”

He further spoke about the attempted assassination of Bassam Shakaa in 1980, in which the Palestinian leader lost both his legs.

Israel-Hamas war: Netanyahu says no Gaza ceasefire until hostages are returned

A 20-year-old Israeli-American police officer who was stabbed by a 16-year-old Palestinian boy near Herod's Gate in East Jerusalem's Old City succumbed to his injuries on Monday (Nov 6).

The female border police officer, Elisheva Rose Ida Lubin, was pronounced dead after she was admitted to a hospital in critical condition. Another police officer who was with the deceased suffered moderate injuries, Israeli newspaper Haaretz reported.

The suspected attacker was later shot dead, police said.

"A terrorist armed with a knife arrived at Shalem police station and stabbed a female soldier... border police forces neutralised the terrorist by shooting," police said in a statement.

<h2>Another suspected arrested&nbsp;</h2>

The assailant was a resident of the east Jerusalem neighbourhood of Issawiya. The police said that "another suspect" was arrested near the scene of the attack.

The slain officer was from Kibbutz Sa’ad near the Gaza border. She immigrated from the United States in August 2021, and was later drafted into the police force in March of the following year, local reports said.

There has been a rise in targeted attacks against the Israeli Police after the Israel-Hamas war began on October 7.

The slain officer was from Kibbutz Sa’ad near the Gaza border. She immigrated from the United States in August 2021, and was later drafted into the police force in March of the following year, local reports said. There has been a rise in targeted attacks against the Israeli Police after the Israel-Hamas war began on October 7. The police intervened when protesters began to walk toward the base after holding a peaceful rally in Incirlik. Several images on social media showed hundreds of protesters waving Palestinian flags and running across a field chased by the police.&nbsp;

On Friday too, demonstrations were held in Turkey where protesters defaced posters of Blinken and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, a report by the news agency Reuters said.

In Ankara later on Sunday, Blinken will hold talks with his &nbsp;Turkish counterpart Hakan Fidan. Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan is unlikely to meet Blinken as he would be on a planned tour.

Blinken said all agreed on the need for peace and that the current status quo in Gaza could not hold, but he acknowledged there were differences between Washington and its allies.

He highlighted that a ceasefire now would simply leave Hamas in place, able to regroup and repeat what it did on Oct 7.&nbsp;

Blinken's first visit since Israel went to war with Hamas in reprisal for the militants' October 7 attack comes with fury at both Israel and the West boiling over on the streets of Turkey and inside the palace of President Recep Tayyip Erdogan.

Police used tear gas and water cannon to disperse hundreds of protesters who marched on an air base housing US forces in Turkey's southeast hours before&nbsp;Blinken's arrival Sunday.

Erdogan himself plans to travel across Turkey's remote northeast Monday in a seeming snub of Washington's top diplomat.

Blinken's talks with Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan were set to be packed with problems even before Israel launched a relentless bombing and expanding ground campaign aimed at eradicating Hamas.

The Hamas-run health ministry said at least 9,770 people had been killed in more than four weeks of war in Gaza.

The operation started after the militants killed more than 1,400 people and took over 240 hostages in the deadliest attack in Israel's history.

The war threatens to have broad repercussions on Washington's relations with Turkey -- a NATO member with a muscular foreign policy and stakes in conflicts across the Middle East.

<h2>'Crocodile tears'</h2>

Washington is anxious to see Turkey's parliament finally ratify Sweden's stalled drive to join the US-led NATO defence organisation.

The United States has also been tightening sanctions against Turkish individuals and companies that are deemed to be helping Russia evade sanctions and import goods for use in its war on Ukraine.

And Ankara is upset that Congress is holding up the approval of a deal backed by US President Joe Biden to modernise Turkey's air force with dozens of US F-16 fighter jets.

Turkey further has longstanding reservations about US support for Kurdish forces in Syria that spearheaded the fight against Islamic State group jihadists -- but which Ankara views an offshoot of banned PKK militants.

Ankara has stepped up air strikes against armed Kurdish groups in Syria and Iraq in reprisal for an October attack on the Turkish capital claimed by the PKK in which two assailants died.

Blinken's visit follows a whirlwind tour of the Middle East that included an unannounced visit to the West Bank for talks with Palestinian Authority president Mahmud Abbas on Sunday.

One protester, Ofri Bibas-Levy, whose brother and two young nephews - four-year-old son Ariel and 10-month-old son Kfir - were among the hostages, expressed her concerns about their well-being in a conversation with Reuters.

She stated, "We don't know where they are, we don't know what condition they are kept in. I don't know if Kfir is getting food, I don't know if Ariel is getting enough food. He is a very small baby."

"We are working relentlessly to reach an immediate and full humanitarian ceasefire so life-saving aid could be delivered to the Gaza Strip," Al Kaabi said.

She further called for the safety of civilians and said that the upsurge in violence was an outcome of "decades of long failure" to find a solution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his British counterpart Rishi Sunak held a telephonic conversation on Friday (Nov 3) and discussed the development in West Asia and the conflict between Israel and the Palestinian militant group Hamas. “Both leaders expressed deep concern at terrorism, worsening security situation and the loss of civilian lives. They agreed on the need for regional peace, security, stability and continued humanitarian assistance,” said the Indian PM’s Office, in a statement.&nbsp;

The leaders also discussed the “deeply distressing situation in the Middle East and condemned Hamas’&nbsp;attacks on Israel,” Sunak’s office said in a readout.&nbsp;

“They reiterated that Hamas did not represent the Palestinian people and reflected on the need to de-escalate tensions in the wider region,” it added.&nbsp;

This comes as countries including the United Kingdom and the United States have previously said that the Hamas does not represent the Palestinian people.&nbsp;

Last month, India sent nearly 6.5 tonnes of medical aid and 32 tonnes of disaster relief material on an Indian Air Force (IAF) flight to Egypt where it was handed over to the Egyptian Red Crescent for the people of Gaza.&nbsp;

The two leaders also agreed on the importance of securing an “ambitious” trade deal, as talks continue over a deal which could be finalised this year.&nbsp;

“The leaders discussed recent progress on Free Trade Agreement negotiations. They agreed on the importance of securing an ambitious deal that benefited both sides,” said a spokeswoman for Sunak’s office said in a readout following the call.&nbsp; 
 
In an interview with PTI,&nbsp;Sunak, earlier this year had said&nbsp;there was “still some way to go” for a free trade pact with India to be finalised.

PM Modi also congratulated his British counterpart&nbsp;on the successful completion of one year of his tenure in office.

After the call, PM Modi also took to X and said that he discussed “means to strengthen bilateral relations and exchanged views on the situation in West Asia,” with his British counterpart.&nbsp;

The leaders reiterated their commitment to continue to strengthen bilateral ties and Comprehensive Strategic partnership, including in the areas trade, investment, emerging technology, defence, security, health and others, the statement by the PMO added.&nbsp;

At least 35 people have been killed after Israeli strikes on an ambulance convoy in Gaza City on Friday (Nov 3), and an attack “targeting” a school in northern Gaza on early Saturday (Nov 4), said the Hamas-run Palestinian health ministry.&nbsp;

The Israeli army confirmed that they struck an ambulance convoy near one of Gaza’s biggest hospitals saying that it was being used by the Palestinian militant group to transfer militants and weapons.&nbsp;

The strike has since garnered condemnation and criticism from the World Health Organization chief, the United Nations’ chief and the Palestinian Red Crescent Society (PRCS).&nbsp;

<h2>Israeli airstrike on ambulances</h2>

At least 15 people were killed and 60 others were injured after Israel struck a convoy of ambulances near the Al-Shifa hospital that was evacuating wounded people from the besieged north to the south of the territory, said the Hamas-run health ministry.&nbsp;

Ashraf al-Qudra, a spokesman for the ministry said that the convoy of ambulances was transporting critically wounded patients from the Al-Shifa hospital to the Rafah border crossing with Egypt when it was targeted in an Israeli attack.&nbsp;

The Israeli military later took responsibility for the attack and said it had identified and hit an ambulance “being used by a Hamas terrorist cell” in the battle zone, adding that a number of Hamas fighters had been killed in the strike.

They also accused the Palestinian militant group of transferring fighters and weapons in ambulances. However, Hamas officials Izzat El Reshiq and al-Qudra rejected the claim.&nbsp;

The Israeli military gave no evidence to support its assertion but said that they intended to release additional information.&nbsp;

Al-Qudra, during a press conference outside the Al-Shifa hospital, said two ambulance vehicles were targeted – the first one at the Ansar Roundabout in Gaza City, which left the driver of the ambulance and a paramedic injured.&nbsp;

Subsequently, as the medical convoy turned back, a second ambulance was targeted when it arrived at the gate of the Al-Shifa Hospital complex.&nbsp;

<h2>Criticism, condemn of Israel’s attack</h2>

WHO chief Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus took to X after the attack and said he was “utterly shocked” by the reports of the deadly attack on ambulances evacuating patients.&nbsp;

The PRCS condemned, early Saturday saying one of its ambulances was struck “by a missile fired by the Israeli forces,” about two metres from the entrance to the Al-Shifa hospital.&nbsp;

PRCS, part of the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement, added that deliberately targeting medical teams constituted “a grave violation of the Geneva Conventions, a war crime”.&nbsp;

“I am horrified by the reported attack in Gaza on an ambulance convoy outside Al Shifa hospital,” said UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres. He added, “The images of bodies strewn on the street outside the hospital are harrowing.”

“This must stop,” said the UN chief reiterating his calls for a humanitarian ceasefire.&nbsp;

At least 20 people were killed and dozens more injured after Israel “directly targeted” a school in northern Gaza, said the Palestinian health ministry.&nbsp;

While Paris has offered its support for Israel over a deadly Oct. 7 attack by Hamas Islamists, there has been growing concern over civilian casualties that have soared under Israel's retaliatory bombardment that has seen thousands killed, wounded and displaced in Gaza.

President Emmanuel Macron confirmed to reporters in Brittany that the conference would take place.

The conference will be at head of state, government and foreign minister level. Key regional stakeholders such as Egypt, Jordan and the Gulf Arab countries will be invited as well as Western, European powers and G20 members, excluding Russia.

International institutions, including the United Nations and Arab League, and non-governmental organisations operating in Gaza will also be present, the diplomats said.

"The conference will also enable all participants to take stock of the support already being channelled to civilians in Gaza, assess requirements and announce fresh commitments, whether financial or in-kind," according to a diplomatic note seen by Reuters.

"The conference will furthermore serve as a forum for reiterating the obligation to respect international humanitarian law," it said.

This revelation comes as Meta comes under fire over an increasing number of users on Instagram and Facebook reporting biased moderation policies — in favour of Israel. Users posting in support of Palestine have reported a steep drop in engagement.

In a blog post from mid-October, Meta clarified that its "policies are designed to give everyone a voice while keeping people safe on our apps," and that "we apply these policies regardless of who is posting or their personal beliefs, and it is never our intention to suppress a particular community or point of view."

Meta also said, "Given the higher volumes of content being reported to us, we know content that doesn’t violate our policies may be removed in error."

The bill was also passed despite Democrats’ insistence it has no future in the Senate while Biden had already promised to veto it.

The measure passed 226 to 196, largely along party lines, also diverts funding from the US tax collection agency Internal Revenue Service (IRS).&nbsp;

The vote also marks a shift from typical strong bipartisan congressional support for providing aid to Israel as 12 Democrats joined the 214 Republicans to vote in favour of the bill. Two Republicans and 194 Democrats voted against the measure.&nbsp;

<h2>Why will the bill be rejected?</h2>

The aid package for Israel is the first major legislative action under new Republican House Speaker Mike Johnson, who was selected after weeks of chaos in the lower chamber of the US Congress.&nbsp;

Therefore, Biden had previously promised to veto it and Chuck Schumer, majority leader of the Democratic-controlled Senate said he would not bring it up for a vote.&nbsp;
