Since Israel Defence Forces (IDF) started air strikes in Gaza, more than 11,000 Palestinians have lost their lives, including children, according to Gaza’s Hamas-run health ministry. His sister Aya had gone there to take shelter with her children after her own apartment was damaged by an air strike. His other sisters, Walaa and Alaa, were there too with their children. The house was in the centre of Gaza in the town of Deir al-Balah, an area that had never been targeted before. They thought it was safe.

Ahmed moved to London four years ago to work for an NGO and hasn't been home since. The last time he saw the children together was over a video call.&nbsp;

Ahmed knew 13-year-old Eslam the best, who was the eldest among the lot. He was killed alongside his little sisters - Dima (10), Tala (9), Nour (5) and Nasma (2), as well as his cousins Raghdad (13), Bakr (11), Sarah (9), Mohamed and Basema who were eight and Abdullah and Tamim who were six.&nbsp;

A week after the bomb struck the home on Oct 22, communications from Gaza were almost entirely cut off as Israel escalated its attack, and Ahmed couldn't contact anyone.&nbsp;

When the signal was reconnected two days later, he learned that another one of his nieces, Malak (11) had also died. She was found alive under the rubble but succumbed to her injuries later in the hospital.&nbsp;

Israel-Hamas war: In a family photo of 11, most of the children are killed in strikes now

Israel on Saturday (Nov 11) said that it had killed a Hamas commander who had held nearly 1,000 Gazan residents hostage and was blocking their evacuation.

"IDF aircraft just struck Ahmed Siam, responsible for holding approximately 1,000 Gazan residents and patients hostage at the Rantisi Hospital, and preventing their evacuation southward," the Israeli Defence Forces said in a statement.

It further said that Siam along with other militants was hiding at "al Buraq" school.

The Palestinian officials on Friday (Nov 10) told news agency Reuters that at least 25 Palestinians lost their lives in an Israeli strike at the school, which was packed with evacuees.

<h2>'Patients at risk'</h2>

Palestinian Health Minister Mai al Kaila said that the Al Shifa hospital in the Gaza Strip, which is the war-torn region's biggest hospital, is under threat as it lacks oxygen, electricity, and fuel.&nbsp;

While addressing a press conference, al Kaila said, "Last night,&nbsp;Al Shifa hospital was air struck by, according to what they told us, white phosphorus and as you might know that this is a type of weapon that is not permitted on an international level, and last night it was air struck with phosphorus, the hospital of Al Shifa."

She further said that the Israeli forces were threatening the hospital's medical staff to leave, as well as threatening to airstrike now and then. In a separate statement, the Palestinian health minister said that 39 babies were at risk in the hospital and one baby had died.&nbsp;

The Israeli military called for an immediate evacuation of hospitals in Gaza stating that the Hamas gunmen were systematically exploiting hospitals as part of their assault.

"The hospitals need to be evacuated in order to deal with Hamas. We intend on dealing with Hamas who have turned hospitals into fortified positions," the Israeli military said when asked if it planned to enter Gaza hospitals at some point.

Hamas has repeatedly rebuffed these claims by Israel and has asked the UN and the International Committee of the Red Cross to send missions to Shifa to probe the allegations.

The victims included Israel Electric Corporation employees who were in the area to fix the power lines damaged by a previous strike from Lebanon. However, Hezbollah, while claiming responsibility for the attack, in its statement said it attacked soldiers installing surveillance equipment.&nbsp;

The remarks prompted a response from Israeli Defence Minister Yoav Gallant who said, “If it (Hezbollah) makes this kind of mistake here, the ones who will pay the price will be first and foremost Lebanese citizens.”&nbsp;

“What we’re doing in Gaza, we can also do in Beirut,” Gallant told soldiers on Israel’s northern border, according to his office.&nbsp;

Israel-Hamas war: At least 14 Israeli civilians injured in Hezbollah missile strikes from Lebanon

Pro-Israeli and pro-Palestinian protesters clashed in South Africa's Cape Town on Sunday (Nov 12). According to a report by the news agency AFP, a prayer for Israeli hostages was to be held in an affluent area of Cape Town. However, several hundred pro-Palestinian demonstrators gate-crashed the event, after a pro-Palestinian demonstration that brought thousands of people onto the streets of the port and tourist city.

AFP reported that the protesters- wearing keffiyehs and waving Palestinian flags- chased away those attending the pro-Israel prayer meet, tore up their placards and occupied the space.

Police arrived at the spot and used water cannons and sound grenades to disperse the demonstrators, then set up a roadblock to keep people out of the area.

Microsoft chief on Saturday (Nov 11) accused Russia of disseminating "disinformation" about the ongoing conflict between Israel and Palestinian militant group Hamas as tensions soar in the Middle East region.

Microsoft vice chair and president, Brad Smith, on being asked about his company's role in promoting peace at an international peace forum in Paris, said that the US tech giant and its rivals were battling disinformation, especially with the help of Artificial Intelligence (AI).

He stated that Microsoft and other companies are doing this "by creating technological tools that facilitate the detection of manipulated, modified, altered content," according to remarks translated into French by radio France Inter.&nbsp;

"We are getting very good at identifying a Russian campaign, like when they tried to tell people not to get the Covid vaccine," he said.

"Or today, when we see Russian disinformation in the Middle East," he added.

He said the three options encountering tech platforms that determine this kind of false information are to simply, delete it, or re-label it and flag that the content has been modified.

"There is no societal consensus about what companies should do," Smith added.

Israeli Defence Minister Yoav Gallant on Saturday (Nov 11) warned Lebanon's Hezbollah not to escalate the conflict along the border.

"Hezbollah is dragging Lebanon into a war that might happen," Gallant told troops in a video aired by Israeli television channels. "It is making mistakes and ... those who will pay the price are first and foremost Lebanon's citizens. What we are doing in Gaza we can do in Beirut."

Gallant's warning came after Hezbollah&nbsp;chief Hassan Nasrallah said that his group was deploying new types of weapons to hit targets in Israel further affirming that the front in the south against its foe would remain active.

Nasrallah said on Saturday there had been "an upgrade" in Hezbollah's operations along its front with Israel.&nbsp;

"There has been a quantitative improvement in the number of operations, the size and the number of targets, as well as an increase in the type of weapons," he said in a televised address.

Further elucidating on one of the weapons, Nasrallah said that this was the very first time the group deployed weaponised drones in the offensive.

"For the first time in the history of the resistance in Lebanon, we have used attack drones," he said.

Palestinian militant group Islamic Jihad released a video on Thursday (Nov 9) in which it claimed to have kept two hostages, a woman in her 70s and a 13-year-old boy, in the Gaza Strip.

"We are ready to release Mrs. Hanna Katzir on humanitarian and health grounds, noting that we might not be able to provide health care for her considering the shortage of food and medicine and the power outage.&nbsp;We are also ready to release the boy Yaghil Yaqub [Jacob] on humanitarian grounds and because of his young age," Abu Hamza, spokesman for the group's military wing, was heard saying in the video.

As clamour grows for a ceasefire to be declared in the besieged Gaza city, reports are emerging that Qatar is negotiating with Israel and Hamas for the potential release of 10 to 15 hostages held in Gaza in exchange for a brief ceasefire.

“Negotiations mediated by the Qataris in coordination with the US are ongoing to secure the release of 10-15 hostages in exchange for a one- to two-day ceasefire,” a source close to the development told AFP news agency on Wednesday (Nov 8).

Knesset approved the bill by a 13-4 majority for a temporary two-year measure, with an option of further expansion. The criminal offence carries a maximum penalty of one year in prison.&nbsp;

Police in California said on Monday (Nov 7) that they were investigating the death of a Jewish man who died after an altercation at duelling pro-Israel and pro-Palestinian rallies in Thousand Oaks last Sunday, as the war between Israel and Hamas rages on. In a statement, the Ventura County Sheriff's Office said that Paul Kessler, 69, was involved in a physical altercation with counter-protestors.&nbsp;

"During the altercation, Kessler fell backwards and struck his head on the ground," the statement added. Kessler died from his injuries on Monday. "The Ventura County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the incident and has not ruled out the possibility of a hate crime," the Sheriff's Office further said and asked anyone who was at the protests to contact it.

Footage on social media showed the 69-year-old man lying on the ground clutching his head. Kessler's family has not commented on his death and requested privacy, a report by NBC News said.&nbsp;

In a statement, the Los Angeles area office of the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) said it was "deeply saddened by this tragic and shocking loss" but cautioned against using the incident for political means.

The CAIR called on individuals "to refrain from jumping to conclusions, sensationalizing such a tragedy for political gains, or spreading rumours that could unnecessarily escalate tensions that are already at an all-time high."

Condemning Kessler's death, Israeli opposition leader, Yair Lapid said "the man was killed because he was a jew".

"It is not because of Gaza, it is because of antisemitism," Lapid said in a post on X, adding, "This is what happens when protesters glorify Hamas and call to globalize the intifada."

The conflict between Israel and Hamas has completed a month with Israeli forces in the heart of Gaza City to destroy Hamas. Thousands have been killed on both sides of the war.

On Tuesday, the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) urged an end to the horrific suffering of civilians in Gaza, especially children. "One month on, civilians in Gaza and Israel are being forced to endure tremendous suffering and loss. This needs to stop," the ICRC said in a statement.&nbsp;

"Massive bombardments are gutting civilian infrastructure across Gaza, sowing seeds of hardship for generations to come," the statement added.&nbsp;
