Hardik Pandya-led India thrashed West Indies by 200 runs in the third and final ODI to win the three-match series 2-1. The visitors won the series opener by five wickets and lost the second and penultimate tie by six wickets before dominating proceedings in the series decider. Once again, regular captain Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli were rested but a second-string&nbsp;Indian team, who lost the second match rather disappointingly, displayed a strong performance to clinch the series.

There were several impressive performances from the Indian camp in the final ODI. Batting first, India rode on Ishan Kishan's 77, Shubman Gill's 85, Sanju Samson's 51 and stand-in captain Hardik's 52-ball 70 to post 351 for 5. In reply, the Windies bundled out for 151 in 35.3 overs with Shardul Thakur claiming a four-for whereas Mukesh Kumar returned with a three-wicket haul.&nbsp;

As Rohit and Kohli were rested for the final two games, the Indian team tested the likes of Samson, Suryakumar Yadav, Ishan Kishan, etc. Talking about Samson, he came out to bat at No. 4 and returned with a sparkling 41-ball 51, studded with 2 fours and 4 sixes at 124.39. After his high-quality knock, Samson said that it is 'challenging' being an Indian cricketer.

Talking to the broadcasters after India posted a mammoth 351/5, Samson said, "Being an Indian cricketer is challenging, I have played domestic cricket for the last 8-9 years and for India, here and there, so it gives you a bit of understanding of playing in different positions. It is the number of overs you get and it is not about batting position so you have to prepare accordingly."

“It feels really great to spend some time in the middle, score some runs and contribute for your country. I had different plans for different players, I wanted to use my feet and dominate the lengths of the bowlers," he added.

Samson has played 13 ODIs, scoring 390 runs with three half-centuries at an average of 55.71. He remains in contention to make it to India's 15-man squad for the ODI World Cup, to be held later this year in October-November.

Being an Indian cricketer is challenging, says Sanju Samson after a blistering 51 in IND vs WI 3rd ODI

Rohit Sharma-led India beat West Indies by five wickets in the series opener of the three ODIs, being held in the Caribbean island. With the 2023 ODI World Cup set to be held in October-November, in India, Rohit &amp; Co. are now left with&nbsp;only a handful of ODIs in the run-up to the mega event at home. Thus, the series versus the lowly-ranked West Indies is crucial in their preparations.&nbsp;

The Men in Blue stood tall and dominated proceedings in the first ODI, dismissing the Windies for a paltry 114 after opting to bowl first, and chased down the score in 22.5 overs. Ravindra Jadeja's three-fer and Kuldeep Yadav's 4 for 6 led the show for India before Ishan Kishan's 52 and unbeaten cameos from Jadeja-Rohit took India past the finish line.&nbsp;

During the run-chase, India shuffled their batting order as Ishan opened with Shubman Gill whereas Suryakumar Yadav, vice-captain Hardik Pandya, Shardul Thakur and Jadeja were also promoted. India's two experienced campaigners such as Virat Kohli and Rohit were demoted&nbsp;and Hitman explained the reason behind the move.&nbsp;

<h2>'We will keep trying these things whenever possible'</h2>

At the post-match presentation, Rohit revealed, "We wanted to give game time to the ODI guys who have come in, we will keep trying those things whenever possible. To restrict them to 115, we knew we could try these guys and give them a go. I don't think they'll get many chances like this."

Rohit came out to bat at No. 7 whereas Kohli didn't feature in the run-chase. On him batting at No. 7, the Indian captain pointed out, "I made my debut for India and was batting at number 7, reminded me of those days."

With Rohit and Kohli experienced enough, India is focusing on giving their middle and lower-order batters enough chances -- wherever available -- in the run-up to the ODI WC, which starts on October 05. While only Ishan (52) made full use of batting at the top, India will be happy with other middle and lower-order batters also being exposed in the middle. They will hope for more such chances where they can&nbsp;experiment&nbsp;in the upcoming ODIs.

The second and penultimate ODI kicks off on Saturday (July 29) as Rohit &amp; Co. will hope to claim&nbsp;an unassailable lead.

IND vs WI: Rohit Sharma explains why India shuffled their batting line-up in 1st ODI amid WC preparations

Ishan Kishan’s fourth ODI fifty and Kuldeep Yadav’s four-for helped India beat West Indies by five wickets in the first ODI in Barbados on Thursday. In a contest that could be dubbed one-sided despite India losing five wickets in a chase of just 115, seamer Mukesh Kumar made his ODI debut. While Kishan was picked over Sanju Samson for the keeper’s role, indicating what the team’s plan looks like in the lead-up to the World Cup.

Electing to bowl first after winning the toss, Hardik Pandya - returning to the India side for the first time since IPL 2023 final, bowled with the new ball and picked the big wicket of Kyle Mayers on two. Brendon King and Alick Athanaze stitched a 38-run stand before debutant Mukesh and Shardul Thakur dismissed both in the space of four balls.

Seasoned campaigners Shai Hope and Shimron Hetmyer tried saving the sinking ship but fell prey to the spin-bowling duo of Ravindra Jadeja and Kuldeep Yadav. After West Indies got reduced to 96 for five at one stage, it was about time before Kuldeep tore into their tail to return with figures of 4 for 6, while Jadeja picked three wickets for 37 runs.

For the hosts, Shai Hope was their highest-scorer, hitting 43 off 45 balls.

Meanwhile, India, for a change, didn’t send their regular openers in captain Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill and instead sent two off-field besties, Kishan and Gill. While Gill departed on seven after a shaky start, the new number three for this game, Suryakumar Yadav, came out to bat ahead of Virat Kohli.

The T20 specialist thumped a few boundaries but got out on 19, plumb in front of left-armer Gudakesh Motie. Pandya departed soon as Kishan completed his fourth ODI fifty, bringing India closer to the win.

The attacking batter became Motie’s second scalp of the day, while Yannic Cariah picked Thakur on just one to reduce India to 97 for five at one stage.

Rohit, perhaps for the first time in ODIs, came to bat at number seven and, with Jadeja (16 off 21), helped India win the match with five wickets in hand.

With this, India won their second of the three matches on Caribbean soil on this tour.&nbsp;

The second One-Dayer will be played at the same venue on Saturday, July 29.

WI vs IND, 1st ODI: Ishan Kishan, Kuldeep Yadav help India draw first blood, beat West Indies by five wickets

India and West Indies played out a tame draw in the second and final Test, in Port-of-Spain in Trinidad, after the final day's play got washed out on Monday (July 24). After gaining a whopping 183-run lead, courtesy of Mohammed Siraj's 5 for 60, India accelerated from the word go in their second essay on the fourth day, with rain already making its presence felt. Thus, they managed to set up a challenging 365-run target for the hosts. Day Five was going to be a tough contest between bat and ball, with West Indies in search of 289 more runs whereas India needed eight more scalps for a win.

Nonetheless, rain played spoilsport to the entire day as honours were shared with India winning the series 1-0. Talking about Rohit Sharma &amp; Co.'s approach in the second innings, it impressed one and all as the visitors declared at 181 for 2 in just 24 overs (with a run rate of 7.54). Thus, many compared India's style of play with England's Bazball. Recently, Ishan Kishan -- who slammed an unbeaten 34-ball 52 in India's second essay&nbsp;-- opined on England's Bazball and made a big claim.&nbsp;

Kishan feels England's Bazball is only possible on flat tracks. "It is not possible that you can play that fast every day, it depends upon the situation also," he told the reporters after Day five of the second Test got completely washed out.

<h2>'Don't think it is necessary that we must play...'</h2>

The 25-year-old added, "If the wicket is flat, where you can score quickly, and the need of the team is to get runs quickly, then I think you can take on that action. I don't think it is necessary that we must play in an aggressive manner in every match, but whenever there will be a need of playing attacking cricket, we have got enough firepower in our ranks. I don't think you can always play attacking shots in Test cricket."

A lot has been said and written about England's Bazball approach in the red-ball format ever since Ben Stokes became the captain along with Brendon McCullum joining in as the head coach&nbsp;in early 2022. Since then, the Three Lions have been on a roll in whites but lost a golden opportunity to win a home Ashes series in the ongoing 2023 edition after the fourth and penultimate Test, in Manchester, ended in a draw. Pat Cummins-led Aussies lead the five-match series 2-1.&nbsp;

IND vs WI: Ishan Kishan not in favour of England's Bazball, says it can only be executed on flat tracks

Indian wicketkeeper-batsman Ishaan Kishan marked his Test debut against the West Indies. In the first test, he opened his account in 20 balls. But, in the second Test at Port of Spain, when he got a chance to bat at number 4 in place of Virat Kohli, Ishan hit the first fifty of his Test career. Ishan played only 33 balls. He completed his half-century with a six. After day 4 play, the Indian wicket-keeper thanked fellow cricketer Rishabh Pant for some batting tips. If reports are to be believed, Ishan also played the innings with Pant’s bat.

IND vs WI: Why Ishan Kishan thanked Rishabh Pant after maiden Test fifty

After riding on Mohammed Siraj's 5 for 60, India bundled out West Indies for 255 in their first innings on Sunday (July 23). In reply to India's 438, the Windies were 208 for 4 before Siraj struck at regular intervals to help his side take a massive 183-run lead on Day Four. In their second essay, India entered the record books with the fastest team hundred in the format as captain Rohit Sharma (44-ball 57) and Yashavi Jaiswal (30-ball 38) set the foundation for some quick runs. Ishan Kishan, promoted at No. 4, carried on from where Rohit-Jaiswal left and smashed a quickfire fifty.

Kishan returned with an impressive and attacking 34-ball 52 (laced with 4 fours and 2 sixes) as India declared at 181 for 2, setting up a challenging 365-run target for the home side. At Stumps on Day Four, West Indies are 76 for 2 and have a herculean task to save the series. After the end of the day's play, Kishan revealed it was Virat Kohli who sacrificed his usual batting slot, i.e. at No. 4 and asked for Kishan's promotion.&nbsp;

<h2>'Virat backed me and told me go and play your game'</h2>

Kishan told the broadcasters, "Was really special. I knew what the team needed from me. Everyone backed me. Virat backed me and told me go and play your game. Let's hope we will finish the game tomorrow. It was Virat bhai who took the initiative and told that I should go in. There was a slow left-armer who was bowling. It was a good call for the team. Sometimes you need to take these calls. We had the plan that we will play 10-12 overs after the rain break and score 70-80 runs. We wanted a 370-380 target."

On Day Five, on Monday (July 24), Rohit &amp; Co. will look to wrap up the Windies' innings in a flash and inflict a series whitewash. The Indian team won the series opener by an innings and 141 runs. They will be eager to add more points to their kitty in the new 2023-25 WTC cycle.

Kishan returned with an impressive and attacking 34-ball 52 (laced with 4 fours and 2 sixes) as India declared at 181 for 2, setting up a challenging 365-run target for the home side. At Stumps on Day Four, West Indies are 76 for 2 and have a herculean task to save the series. After the end of the day's play, Kishan revealed it was Virat Kohli who sacrificed his usual batting slot, i.e. at No. 4 and asked for Kishan's promotion. WI vs IND: 'He took the initiative...' - Kishan reveals Kohli backed him to bat at No. 4 after maiden fifty

Former India pacer Zaheer Khan isn't much impressed with how Ishan Kishan got out during the second Test against West Indies. The wicketkeeper-batsman got his opportunity ahead of Srikar Bharat on the tour but hasn't been of much impact so far with the bat.

“He started the knock well. So he will be extremely disappointed because once you have played 30-40 deliveries and scored 25 runs, you have gotten your eye in. In Test matches, it is said that it is not a problem if you get out at the start,” Zaheer said while speaking on JioCinema.

Unlike the first Test, Kishan had a decent opportunity to bat long in the second Test with a solid platform laid by openers Yashasvi Jaiswal, Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli as well. The left-hand batsman could score only 25 runs and got out to a shot which Zaheer described as a shot of T20 mindset.

“However, if you get out like this, especially the shot he played, the T20 or white-ball effect was seen in that, so he will be disappointed with that because he had an excellent opportunity to play a good knock today,” added the former India pacer.

India, nonetheless, finished strongly with a score of 438 in their first innings as Virat Kohli notched up his 29th Test century. Virat also broke Sachin Tendulkar's record of most centuries in first 500 international matches by one ton. Tendulkar had scored 75 of his 100 tons in the first 500 international games he had played while Kohli scored 76 in same number of matches. This was also Kohli's first ton in five years outside Asia.

As for bowling, India had scalped two West Indian wickets for a total of 117 runs before rain interrupted play on day 3. India currently lead the two-match series 1-0.

Ind vs WI: Former India pacer Zaheer Khan 'not happy' with Ishan Kishan getting out playing white-ball shot

India is taking on West Indies in the second and final Test on Thursday (July 20) at Port-of-Spain in Trinidad. Having won the series opener by an innings and 141 runs, Rohit Sharma &amp; Co. will aim for a series whitewash to also add vital points in their kitty in the 2023-25 ICC World Test Championship (WTC) cycle. Ahead of the second Test's commencement, Hitman hinted that India won't tinker too much with their playing XI after having won the first Test, in Dominica, without dropping much sweat.&nbsp;

Rohit also spoke at length about Ishan Kishan, who made his Test debut in&nbsp;the series opener. He was unbeaten on 1 in India's first innings&nbsp;but was impressive behind the stumps. Rohit revealed that Ishan has been given full freedom to play in his attacking manner even in the purest format of the game.&nbsp;

Speaking to the reporters ahead of the second Test, Rohit said, "Ishan is a very talented player. We have seen it in the short career that he has had for India. He scored a double hundred in limited overs. He has the game, we have the responsibility to chisel that talent. We have to give him opportunities. He is a left-handed batter. He likes playing aggressive cricket. I have had clear discussions with him, and I have explained to him how the team management wants him to play. He has been given freedom. He has the game, he needs the freedom and we will give him the opportunity."

Rohit also opined on Ishan's wicketkeeping skills. He stated, "I would like to speak specifically about his wicket-keeping. He kept really, really well considering he played his first Test and to keep against Ashwin and Jadeja where the ball is turning and bouncing and some balls keeping low as well... I was very impressed with his keeping skills. Unfortunately, he got to score just one run as we had to declare. We want our top-order batters bat long. If the opportunity comes (to bat long), he (Ishan) is raring to go."

With India entering a transition phase, given the likes of Rohit, Virat Kohli, Ajinkya Rahane, R Ashwin, etc. being in the last phase of their careers, the national side is focused on backing their young stars. The current Test squad comprises Yashasvi Jaiswal, Mukesh Kumar, Ishan, etc. The visiting side is keen on seeing their youngsters flourish. After Jaiswal's blitz in the series opener, India will hope for Ishan to get a big score in the final Test.

WI vs IND, 2nd Test: 'Have explained to him how....' - Rohit Sharma on India's star batter

The South Korean military detained a North Korean soldier who crossed the heavily fortified demilitarised zone (DMZ) that separates the two countries, South Korea's Joint Chiefs of Staff (JSC) said on Thursday.

The soldier expressed his intention to defect to South Korea, the JSC said later.

The unidentified active-duty soldier was first detected by thermal imaging equipment moving south near the Imjin River late on Wednesday and South Korean troops took him into custody just before midnight, the JCS said.

Also on Wednesday, the South Korean military recovered a body near the DMZ suspected to be that of a North Korean civilian, a spokesman for South Korea's defence ministry said on Thursday.

Clad in military-type pants and a belt, the body was found in the Imjin River and appeared to have been dead for at least two weeks, South Korea's Yonhap news agency reported.

South Korea returned three North Koreans on Monday who had crossed the maritime border aboard a fishing vessel.

Officials from the South said they thought the fishermen may have wanted to defect but in the end the men chose to return to North Korea.

Hundreds of North Koreans make their way to South Korea each year hoping to defect, but unauthorized crossings of the DMZ are rare.

The zone is dotted with landmines, fences, guard posts, and other military equipment on both sides of the border.

The last defection by a North Korean soldier across the DMZ was in November 2018.

In November 2017 a North Korean soldier was shot multiple times by fellow soldiers as he fled across the border into South Korea, where he was treated by doctors.

Another North Korean soldier crossed the border to defect a few weeks later in an incident that led to South Korean guards firing warning shots into North Korea.

North and South Korea agreed last year to try to reduce tensions along their border by reducing the number of landmines and guard posts, disarming their guards at a truce village, and imposing a no-fly zone.

Watch: Rohit Sharma angry with Ishan Kishan’s batting in first Test against West Indies

On Friday (June 23), the BCCI selection committee named India's squads&nbsp;for their two-match Test series and three ODIs versus West Indies as the tour commences next month in the Caribbean. Rohit Sharma retained captaincy of the 16-man Test squad, despite criticism after India's WTC final loss, whereas Ajinkya Rahane regained the vice-captaincy post.

Rahane served as Virat Kohli's deputy in whites for a long time and even led the team with aplomb in his absence before losing the post in late 2021. Soon, he even lost his spot before making his comeback during the WTC finale versus Australia early this month, where he returned with a sublime 89 and 46. With injuries to Shreyas Iyer, KL Rahul, Rishabh Pant and Jasprit Bumrah, Rahane once again got the vice-captaincy back and Little Master Sunil Gavaskar reacted to the same.

Gavaskar said there is 'nothing wrong' in Rahane regaining vice-captaincy but feels there was an opportunity lost to name a youngster as Rohit's deputy for the Windies tour. Talking to Sports Today, he said, "There is nothing wrong in having him [Ajinkya Rahane] as the vice-captain, but a missed opportunity to groom a young player. At least, tell a young player that we are looking at you as a future captain. So, he starts to think as a future leader."

Further, Gavaskar named three youngsters who can lead India in whites going forward. "One is Shubman Gill and the other is Axar Patel [as future captains] because Axar comes in leaps and bounds, he just gets better every match. Giving him the responsibility as vice-captain will make them think. So, these are the two candidates in my view. If there are others, somebody like Ishan Kishan, once he cements his place in the team. He can come in the reckoning as well," the veteran added.

Gavaskar opines on Rahane regaining vice-captaincy, suggests three names as India's next Test skipper

Ishan Kishan is among several centrally contracted players who will reach the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bengaluru next week for strength and conditioning-related work ahead of the start of the West Indies tour. Following the WTC Final at the Oval this month, India will travel to the Caribbean Islands for two Tests, three ODIs and five T20Is, starting July 12. The Indian Team is likely to depart on July 3.

With India’s premier domestic tournament Duleep Trophy, set to get underway in Bengaluru on June 28, Ishan decided to opt out at the last minute.

Selected to play for East Zone, which was scheduled to take on Central Zone in the first quarter in Alur, Ishan had a chance to play at least one red-ball match ahead of the West Indies tour. With this, he would have pushed for a case for a place in the Test side with KS Bharat, who played ahead of him in the WTC Final.

Generally in between two international series, contracted or targeted players who are not part of any ongoing domestic tournament are sent to the NCA for an update on their fitness status.

<h2>Ishan to continue playing white-ball cricket</h2>

While the Indian board is yet to announce squads for the Tests, which begin with the first game in Dominica on July 12, both Ishan and Bharat will retain their places. Meanwhile, following a mediocre outing against Australia at the Oval, KS Bharat could lose his place to the high-flying Kishan in the Test team.

If KS gets retained in the XI and Ishan gets to warm the benches, the left-handed batter is sure to start in the white-ball series that follows. Recent reports said that Ruturaj Gaikwad, Rinku Singh and Yashasvi Jaiswal are among the young uncapped batters who could get a chance in the five-match T20Is.

With regular captain Rohit Sharma expected to get some rest for ‘some part’ of the West Indies tour, Ishan Kishan will get his chance. Being one of the five Indians to score a double hundred in ODIs – against Bangladesh in 2022, Ishan is tipped to be the future of Indian Cricket.&nbsp;

Ishan Kishan among other contracted players head to NCA for strength & conditioning ahead of West Indies tour

In the absence of Rishabh Pant, Ishan Kishan was considered by many as the top-choice wicketkeeper in the World Test Championship (WTC) final against Australia. Ishan could not manage to secure his spot in the playing XI for the WTC final. The youngster now seems quite unwilling to explore his future in red-ball cricket. A report published by the news agency PTI has claimed that Ishan decided to refrain from featuring in the East Zone team for the Duleep Trophy tournament. The article stated that the East Zone selectors were utterly perplexed after they got to know about Ishan Kishan’s decision to not take part in the first-class tournament which is taking place just ahead of the Test series against West Indies, starting from July 12.

While Ishan Kishan has already represented Team India in ODIs and T20Is, the 24-year-old is yet to make his red-ball cricket debut in the international circuit. He has donned the India jersey in 14 ODIs and 27 T20I matches. Ishan has one century and seven half centuries to his name in international cricket.&nbsp;

In the latest edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL), Ishan Kishan scored 454 runs with a strike rate of 142.76. The opener emerged as the second-highest run-scorer of the Mumbai Indians franchise this year.

<h2>What the report said</h2>

PTI reported that an East Zone selection committee member asked zonal selection committee convener Debasish Chakraborty if they could select Ishan Kishan for the Duleep Trophy. “As he is a senior India regular in white ball, he would have got the captaincy. Chakraborty got in touch with Ishan over the phone and came back and told us that he is not interested in playing Duleep Trophy. We were not told if he has an injury or not. Just that he doesn’t want to play,” the selector told PTI.

While Ishan Kishan has already represented Team India in ODIs and T20Is, the 24-year-old is yet to make his red-ball cricket debut in the international circuit. He has donned the India jersey in 14 ODIs and 27 T20I matches. Ishan has one century and seven half centuries to his name in international cricket. In the latest edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL), Ishan Kishan scored 454 runs with a strike rate of 142.76. The opener emerged as the second-highest run-scorer of the Mumbai Indians franchise this year. What the report said PTI reported that an East Zone selection committee member asked zonal selection committee convener Debasish Chakraborty if they could select Ishan Kishan for the Duleep Trophy. Abhishek Porel and Kumar Kushagra are the two designated wicketkeepers present in the East Zone squad. Duleep Trophy: Ishan Kishan opts out of the tournament

In the second segment of Wion's exclusive with former Indian stumper Saba Karim, he opined on India's playing XI for WTC final vs Australia. In addition, he opened up on the Men in Blue's chances for the upcoming ICC ODI World Cup 2023, at home, and named their key player.

Exclusive | WTC Final: Former Indian stumper in favour of KS Bharat's inclusion in India's playing XI

No. 1 ranked India are set to lock horns with Australia in the forthcoming ICC World Test Championship (WTC) final versus Australia at The Oval, London on June 07. Being without an ICC title since 2013, Rohit Sharma &amp; Co. will be eager to lift their first-ever major title in the upcoming clash. However, it won't be an easy task versus&nbsp;Pat Cummins-led Australia.&nbsp;

Ahead of the WTC finale, India have plenty of injury concerns, with several key players, such as Rishabh Pant, KL Rahul, Shreyas Iyer, Jasprit Bumrah, etc. out of action. Thus, former Australian opener Matthew Hayden made his pick for India's wicketkeeper-batter slot for the marquee finale. He feels India should go ahead with uncapped player Ishan Kishan instead of KS Bharat in Pant's absence.&nbsp;

Speaking to PTI, Hayden suggested, "One of the big losses to Indian cricket right now is Rishabh Pant. If I was an Indian selector, I certainly go with the more dynamic wicketkeeper batter Ishan Kishan, he also adds that bit of swagger to the batting lineup and in the fielding unit as well."

Ishan has not yet made his Test debut. He was in the squad in the 2022/23 Border-Gavaskar Trophy versus Australia, held in India, but didn't get a game. Bharat made his debut and did a decent job behind the stumps -- albeit with a few fumbles -- and looked promising with the bat with a best of 44. While Ishan is a like-for-like replacement for Pant, with both the southpaws being aggressive with the bat, Bharat is more of a steady batter.&nbsp;

It will be interesting to see if Rohit &amp; Co. opt for Ishan and drop Bharat for the mega finale. Further, Hayden also said that India should play both R Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja in the playing XI.

In this regard, he said, "What works for India is two spinners. It doesn't work for Australia, apart from the outrageous turners that we saw in India during the Border-Gavaskar trophy."

''I know the Australian combination will always want to have three quicks. Obviously, Nathan Lyon is our spinner and Cameron Green can play as an all-rounder. I mean, that's, that's how important Cameron Green is. That's a powerful and important role that he plays as an all-rounder. So it's great to have him in form,'' Hayden added.

India should go ahead with Ishan Kishan in Rishabh Pant's absence in WTC Final, says former Aussie opener

India are set to face Australia in the upcoming ICC World Test Championship (WTC) final starting on June 07 (Wednesday) at the Kennington Oval, London. This will be India's second consecutive shot at winning the coveted Test mace after finishing second in the inaugural WTC cycle. Facing the second-ranked&nbsp;Australian team will be a huge challenge for India but Rohit Sharma &amp; Co. have a strong squad at their disposal to compete hard with the Aussies.

In their last series, India defeated Australia in the 2022/23 Border-Gavaskar Trophy at home (winning 2-1). However, playing the WTC summit clash at The Oval, London will pose a different challenge for both teams. Ahead of the finale, Little Master Sunil Gavaskar opened up on India's possible XI and highlighted a slot that might be a bit of a concern for No. 1 ranked Team India.&nbsp;

<h2>'No. 6 is where there is just a little bit of a concern'</h2>

“I will talk about the batting, and that will be Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill as one-two. No. 3 is (Cheteshwar) Pujara, No. 4 is (Virat) Kohli, No. 5 is Ajinkya Rahane. No. 6 is where there is just a little bit of a concern,” Gavaskar said on Star Sports.

Gavaskar asserted, “I would imagine No. 6 would be either (Srikar) Bharat or Ishan Kishan. They are talking about Bharat because he has played all these matches so far. So will probably stick with Bharat at six,” He added, “No. 7 will be (Ravindra) Jadeja. If it’s a bright day and a bright prediction, then I think you are looking at Jadeja and (Ravichandran) Ashwin at No. 7 and No. 8. No. 9, 10 and 11 will be Mohammad Shami, Mohammed Siraj and maybe Shardul Thakur."

If India emerge on top in the WTC final, they will break their ten-year-long ICC-title drought. Their last major title came in 2013 under legendary skipper MS Dhoni when they lifted the Champions Trophy.

No. 6 is bit of a concern: Sunil Gavaskar on India's playing XI ahead of marquee WTC final vs Australia

Team India captain Rohit Sharma will have to make a tough call about who to pick for that one keeper-batter slot between Ishan Kishan and KS Bharat for the WTC Final against Australia at the Oval in London.

Team India captain Rohit Sharma will have to make a tough call about who to pick for that one keeper-batter slot between Ishan Kishan and KS Bharat for the WTC Final against Australia at the Oval in London. While the management has nearly five days to decide on that, former India coach Ravi Shastri shared his opinion on the same recently. Speaking with Star Sports, as quoted by ESPNcricinfo, Shastri said all would depend on the conditions. Elaborating further on this, Shastri said if India decides to go ahead with both bowling all-rounders in Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja, then KS Bharat might get the nod. However, looking at the conditions, if they name four pacers in the XI instead, we might see Ishan Kishan getting his debut cap. ALSO READ: EXPLAINED - How India can beat Australia and win the World Test Championship Final "I have a feeling that India might just go with, depending on who's playing - if two spinners are playing, maybe KS Bharat, but if there are four seamers and one spinner playing, then it'll go the other way, it might go Ishan Kishan's way," Shastri opined. Meanwhile, the last time, around two years ago, Shastri was the head coach of the team when India played the inaugural final against New Zealand in Southampton. That time also India had to decide whom to play – either Jadeja or Ashwin, both, or an extra batter in Hanuma Vihari - and the team picked both all-rounders. In that rain-marred contest, India lost the match by eight wickets. Taking a note from that experience, Shastri said India must read the conditions well and depending on that, should name the final XI. "When you look at the WTC, if I remember from the last time India were in the final, what you learn from that game is very important," Shastri said. "You've got to pick a team that suits the conditions. Last time in Southampton, the weather was really overcast,” he added. Shastri names his final 12 Shastri, regardless of picking either Bharat or Kishan, named 12 names among which the final 11 will get picked for the one-off Test against Australia. "And my 12 will be very clear. It will be Rohit [Sharma], Shubman [Gill], [Cheteshwar] Pujara at three, Virat Kohli at four, Ajinkya Rahane five […] Six will be Jadeja, seven will be Mohammed Shami, eight will be [Mohammed] Siraj, nine will be Shardul Thakur, the eleventh will be Ashwin and the twelfth will be Umesh Yadav. So, this will be my twelve,” he added. "And then, depending on the conditions, if four seamers are playing, then it'll be Umesh and Shardul who'll play with Siraj and Shami. But if two spinners are playing, which should be the case at the Oval, seeing what the weather is existing in England at the moment, where it's nice and sunny at times, then it will be Ashwin, Jadeja, Shardul, Shami and Siraj,” Shastri concluded. The match will take place from 7-11 June, with the 12th kept as a reserve day. WATCH WION LIVE HERE:

WTC Final: Ravi Shastri picks between Ishan Kishan and KS Bharat, says 'if India play two spinners then...'

Former India star and commentator Mohammad Kaif has backed Ishan Kishan to make his debut for the Indian team as they prepare for the World Test Championship (WTC) final against Australia. The WTC final, which will start at the iconic Oval Stadium in London on Wednesday (June 7), could see Ishan and KS Bharat battle for a place in the Playing XI. India are without Rishabh Pant and will like to replace his aggressive batting style with Ishan but Bharat’s experience could see him keep his place.

<h2>Kaif makes bold choice</h2>

“I would play Ishan Kishan over KS Bharat because you would want someone to play attacking shots at number six because the ball is old and Rishabh Pant used to play that role,” said Kaif in a conversation with Star Sports.

The Indian team has been missing the services of Pant since December, having suffered serious injuries in a road accident. His continued absence will be a major blow for India as he brings the attacking brand of cricket. KS Bharat has since taken over the first-choice keeper's tag and made his debut for the national side in February against Australia in Nagpur.

Pant is not the only piece missing in the puzzle for India as they also will be without Jasprit Bumrah, Shreyas Iyer, and KL Rahul. With big names missing several players are on the radar and could feature in the WTC final on Wednesday.

“At seven, I will play Jadeja and at eight I would either play Ashwin or Shardul, depending on the pitch conditions, and if the pitch suits spin then Ashwin can target the left-handed batsmen like Warner, Travis Head, and Khawaja, so it will be a good match up,” Kaif said while speaking on other combinations.

“I would take fast bowlers, Mohammed Shami, and Mohammed Siraj followed by Umesh Yadav at number 11. It’s early June, and you will need three fast bowlers plus Jadeja and Ashwin or Shardul, depending on the forecast,” added Kaif.

<h2>When is the WTC final?</h2>

The WTC final will start on Wednesday, June 7 at the iconic Oval Stadium in London, with an opportunity for India to win a Grand Slam of ICC titles. As things stand, the WTC trophy remains the only piece missing from the puzzle. India won the ODI World Cup in 1983 and 2011, while they lifted the T20 World Cup in 2007 and won the Champions Trophy in 2000 and 2013.

WTC Final: Mohammad Kaif makes BOLD selection choice for Aussie clash, picks THIS player in Playing XI

Former Australian captain Ricky Ponting has backed India keeper-batter Ishan Kishan to play ahead of KS Bharat in the World Test Championship Final, starting June 7th at the Oval in London. Calling him someone who, like Rishabh Pant, can change gears and put any opposition under pressure, Ponting sees no reason why Kishan can't make his Test debut in the all-important clash.

Although the left-handed Kishan was among the runs in the ongoing IPL 2023, scoring 454 from 16 games at a strike rate of above 140, he still falls behind Bharat in the pecking order – who played all four Tests earlier during the Border-Gavaskar series.&nbsp;

Also, in the absence of KL Rahul - the makeshift keeper in ODIs, the wicketkeeping situation gets tricky for Rohit Sharma and coach Rahul Dravid. While the consensus says India might go ahead with Bharat for that one spot, many feel, including Ponting, that going with Kishan will be a better choice. &nbsp;

"If I was them [India], knowing the importance of this game - and you have to win this Test match - I'd be going with Ishan Kishan in this game," Ponting said, as quoted by ESPNCricinfo.

"He provides that little bit of X-factor that you need when you might be pushing for a win in a Test match. Obviously, if Rishabh Pant is fit, he is playing, and he provides that X-factor for India. But with him not being there, and this is no blot on Bharat whatsoever, I think Kishan just provides that little bit more X-factor, who'd do a good job with the gloves but can provide that really high-scoring run rate that is required in a one-off Test match to push for a win,” Ponting added.

Ponting said considering what is at stake and this one-off Test is all to play for, he would rather play all the x-factors to ensure India puts Australia under pressure and take the game home.

"I'd be going with as many X-factor players as I could and put some real pressure back on Australia," Ricky further opined.

Ishan and Suryakumar Yadav, two x-factors in Ponting’s eyes, were part of the BGT earlier that India won 2-1. While Surya played the Nagpur Test, and scored eight runs in the only inning he batted in, Ishan warmed the benches during the series.&nbsp;

Although Ishan is considered to be a better white-ball player, given his recent exploits, wherein he became the fourth Indian batter to complete two hundred runs in an ODI inning recently, his first-class numbers read 2985 runs in 48 matches, averaging 38.76 - which are good enough to push for a case in the XI against the mighty Aussies.

'X-factor' Ishan Kishan can put Australia under pressure in WTC Final, says Ricky Ponting

The World Test Championship (WTC) Final for the 2012-23 cycle is around the corner with both Australia and India ready to face off each other in England from June 7.

Both the countries have announced their respective squads for the marquee event and former Australia skipper Ricky Ponting thinks that India should have included Suryakumar Yadav in its squad.

<h2>The premise for Ponting's comment</h2>

With injuries to players like KL Rahul, Jasprit Bumarh and Rishabh Pant, India are not at their best in terms of playing XI. The replacement for these players have been announced with veteran batter Ajinkya Rahane taking Rahul's place and Ishan Kishan for Rishabh Pant.

<h2>What did Ponting say?</h2>

Speaking at an event in New Delhi, the former Aussie skipper said 'yes' when asked if Suryakumar Yadav should have been in India's squad. Ponting, however, said that the presence of an Pant-like player could be the X-factor in WTC Final. Notably, Yadav is one of the three standby players announced by the BCCI.

"But there is another X-factor that has just been added in Ishan Kishan. If you look at the way he plays, he is probably the most like Rishabh Pant with his potential to keep and bat in the middle order. If they do play those guys they should be given the right to play an aggressive brand of cricket," said Ponting.

"With the injury issues India have got, they can go with few different ways, especially in batting. Before Rahul's injury I had him in the eleven, now that he is not there, they need to pick Ishan or K S Bharat," said the three-time ODI World Cup winner," Ponting added further.

<h2>What could be India's best Playing XI?</h2>

India, more or less, have players finalized&nbsp;for its&nbsp;playing XI with just a couple of slots to fill. With Rahul out of the picture, skipper Rohit Sharma is expected to open with Shubman Gill. Cheteshwar Pujara seems a fix a number three followed by Virat Kohli and Ajinkya Rahane at number four and five, respectively.

For the wicketkeeper slot, India would have to choose from Ishan Kishan and KS Bharat. Ravindra Jadeja would likely to follow next as the first all-rounder alongside Shardul Thakur who may come in next.&nbsp;

Ravi Ashwin, Mohammed Siraj and Mohammed Shami then would likely to be fill up the next three places in the playing XI.

Ricky Ponting picks India's Pant-like 'X-factor' player for WTC Final

Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) secured a narrow five-run against Mumbai Indians (MI) to keep their top-two hopes alive in the Indian Premier League (IPL) on Tuesday, May 16. The win sees LSG go on 15 points while the defeat for MI also means the likes of Rajasthan Royals (RR), Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) and Punjab Kings (PBKS) can still make the playoff mathematically.

<h2>MI miss out to cement top two berth</h2>

Tasked to chase 178, MI made a definitive start and looked on course to seal the match before losing their way. Openers Rohit Sharma (37) and Ishan Kishan (59) set the platform for the visitors before they lost both of them. They put together an opening wicket stand of 90 runs while Suryakumar Yadav (7) and Nehal Wadhera (16) soon followed to make the situation vulnerable for MI.

In the final over with 11 needed, Mohsin Khan held his nerves and put the opposition in bay and sealed a famous win for LSG that took them level with Chennai Super Kings (CSK). Yash Thakur and Ravi Bishnoi both ended with two wickets each while Mohsin Khan scalped a wicket as well for LSG.

<h2>What happened in LSG innings?</h2>

Marcus Stonis' 89 (47)* powered Lucknow Super Giants to 177/3 in 20 overs against Mumbai Indians in the Indian Premier League (IPL) match here.

MI started the game on a strong note as Jason Behrendorff provided the visitors with an ideal start by picking up two wickets in two balls in the third over. He dismissed the out-of-form batter Deepak Hooda on 5(7).

MI bounced back as Piyush Chawla came back into the attack and dismissed left-handed batter Quinton de Kock on 16(15). From that moment Marcus Stoinis and Krunal Pandya built a partnership slowly taking the game into the final overs. As the unbeaten partnership reached the 82-run mark, LSG skipper Krunal Pandya went out following an injury.

Stoinis didn't take his foot off the accelerator as he sent the ball flying into the stands on the final ball of the innings to take LSG's score to 177/3 in 20 overs.

MI will now end the season at home against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) on Sunday, May 21 and will need a win to keep their playoff berth intact. On the flip side, LSG will take on Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) at the Eden Gardens and will look to book their berth in the top two to stand multiple chances of making the final on May 28 at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.

IPL 2023: Ishan, Suryakumar dominate with bat as MI down PBKS by six wickets in Mohali

The BCCI has named a few standbys for the 2023 World Test Championship final against Australia, the final 15-member squad for which was announced recently. As per the latest reports, the board has picked five players, mainly Sarfaraz Khan, Ruturaj Gaikwad, Ishan Kishan, Navdeep Saini and Mukesh Kumar, as backups.

Ahead of the final, which begins on June 7th at the Oval, the Indian team will also play a multi-day warm-up game. As per Times of India (TOI), an unnamed senior BCCI official has conveyed these names for standbys and also informed that those players, who will not feature in the IPL 2023 playoffs, which start from May 23rd, will travel to England earlier than others to get acclimatise to the conditions. ALSO READ: Kane Williamson can still travel to India for 50-over World Cup even if he's unfit, says Gary Stead The report also suggests that after consulting with MS Dhoni, veteran batter Ajinkya Rahane was picked in the Test squad for the first time since January 2022. Rahane, sold to CSK for INR 50 lacs at last year's auction, has been a standout performer for Chennai Super Kings this season. Upon hitting his fastest fifty in his debut match for CSK, Rahane broke the shackles with his incredible 29-ball 71 against Kolkata Knight Riders, hitting six fours and five sixes. Trying to find his feet after losing the BCCI’s central contract, Rahane, who also did well in the Ranji season before this, shined under MS Dhoni in yellow colours – and given his run of form, he is not likely to put a full stop. While Rahane’s selection raised questions over the criteria for picking players in international cricket, a few others, like former head coach Ravi Shastri backed this call of going ahead with him in the all-important final. He even tweeted saying this was the best squad the selectors could have picked for the WTC final against Australia. Meanwhile, all of the above-mentioned standbys are currently plying their trade for their respective franchises in the IPL 2023, with Ruturaj doing well. Here is the final 15-man India squad for the WTC final – Rohit Sharma (Captain), Shubman Gill, Cheteshwar Pujara, Virat Kohli, Ajinkya Rahane, KL Rahul, KS Bharat (wk), Ravichandran Ashwin, Ravindra Jadeja, Axar Patel, Shardul Thakur, Mohammed Shami, Mohammed Siraj, Umesh Yadav, Jaydev Unadkat

Ishan Kishan and Suryakumar Yadav turned back the clock with retro striking as they helped Mumbai Indians beat Kolkata Knight Riders by six wickets at the Wankhede Stadium on Sunday. Following Venkatesh Iyer’s record-breaking 105 in the first innings, KKR looked confident in defending 185; however, the start MI got had put them in the driver’s seat from the word go.

After being asked to bat first, KKR lost N Jagadeesan early. Iyer, who had a great start to the season, having scored two fifties in three games before this, looked in sublime touch as he smashed a few boundaries inside the Powerplay. Despite this, the touring KKR side lost three quick wickets in the middle overs.&nbsp;

However, Iyer stood his ground and kept churning out runs at will. As he inched closer to the milestone, he looked a bit nervous;&nbsp;but without much hassle, the left-handed batter completed his maiden hundred in this format. With this, he also became only the second KKR batter after Brendon McCullum to score a century in the IPL. Brendon scored the first ton in IPL in 2008, playing against RCB at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium.

The stand-in skipper for this game, Suryakumar Yadav, who has had a torrid time in the middle lately, walked in and showed why he is still the best T20I batter around.

Meanwhile, Kishan hammered everyone, including the great Sunil Narine for 22 runs in his first over as he completed his fifty soon after. He got out to Varun Chakravarthy bowled on 58. The man in form, Tilak Varma, joined SKY, as the pair stitched a 60-run-stand for the third wicket. It was about time before Mumbai hunted down the total, but before that, they lost two wickets in Surya and Nehal Wadhera.

Australian pair Tim David and Cameron Green took care of the formalities as Mumbai won the match with five wickets.

IPL 2023: Venkatesh Iyer's record-breaking 104 goes in vain as Mumbai beat Kolkata by 5 wickets at Wankhede

The Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 edition is set to kick off on March 31 with the defending champions Hardik Pandya-led Gujarat Titans (GT) set to take on the MS Dhoni-led Chennai Super Kings (CSK) at the iconic Narendra Modi Cricket Stadium, Ahmedabad. The league is keenly awaited as many are eager to see how the two most successful teams, such as CSK and Mumbai Indians (MI) bounce back after a miserable IPL 2022.

In IPL 2022, Rohit Sharma-led MI finished at the bottom, tenth spot, for the first time in their rich history. A winner of IPL titles on five occasions, MI will surely be eyeing a dream comeback in IPL 2023 and have bolstered their squad with many star players. Cameron Green, Australia's 23-year-old star all-rounder, was acquired by the MI franchise in IPL 2022 auction for a whopping INR 175 million (INR 17.5 crore) and he is expected to fill in the big shoes of Kieron Pollard, former MI legend.

Green is&nbsp;not only the highest-paid player in MI&nbsp;history but also the second-most expensive buy ever in showpiece event. He is also set to earn more than his skipper Rohit in the forthcoming IPL 2023 edition.

It is to be noted that Rohit&nbsp;has been associated with MI&nbsp;since IPL 2011 and was retained by the owners for INR 160 million (INR 16 crore). Thus, the Aussie star is set to earn more than Hitman.

Green slammed his maiden Test ton during India-Australia's fourth and final match of the 2022/23 Border-Gavaskar Trophy. He is part of Steve Smith-led Australia's ongoing three-match ODI series versus hosts India with the series levelled at 1-1. He will aim for a memorable season in IPL 2023 and help MI revive in style after their IPL 2022 debacle.

KL Rahul’s composed 75-run knock helped Team India end their 12-year winless run in ODIs at the Wankhede Stadium after they beat Australia by five wickets on Friday, March 17. The win saw India take a 1-0 lead in the three-match series while also securing India’s first ODI win at the venue since beating England in October 2011. Asked to chase 189, the Indian team had initial struggles but an unbeaten 108-run stand between Rahul and Ravindra Jadeja (45 unbeaten) for the sixth wicket helped India draw the first blood.

India currently hang in balance as they still have not confirmed a place in the World Test Championship (WTC) final which is to be played in England in June. However, India will book a berth in the final if they manage to win the Ahmedabad Test.&nbsp;

The Test, however, if ends in a draw or India lose, the chances of India making it to the final would depend on the result of ongoing Test between Sri Lanka and New Zealand.

Sri Lanka have set a target of 285 runs for New Zealand to win the first Test of two-match series and if New Zealand win the match, it will put India in the final. However, if Sri Lanka win the series 2-0 then they would pip India for the final berth, but anything apart from a 2-0 win will give India a place in the WTC final irrespective of the result of Ahmedabad Test.

India lead the four-match series, 2-1, but lost the third and penultimate Test in Indore by nine wickets and the series became alive even though India have already taken an unassailable lead. While Australia, who have already qualified for the WTC final, will aim for a memorable 2-2 scoreline, Rohit &amp; Co. will be desperate to win the series 3-1 and get the ticket to enter the WTC summit clash. If India lose or the series finale ends in a draw, they will hope for New Zealand to not lose both their Tests versus visitors Sri Lanka with their series kicking off on Thursday as well, in Christchurch.

Apart from India, Sri Lanka also have a faint chance of entering the WTC final. Nonetheless, Rohit &amp; Co. can put an end to SL's hopes with a win in Ahmedabad.

UNMISSABLE! Rohit Sharma leads the charge as Team India celebrate Holi in Ahmedabad - Watch

India are gearing up for the third and final T20I versus New Zealand, to be held at the Narendra Modi Cricket Stadium, Ahmedabad on Wednesday (February 01). Ahead of the series finale, with the scoreline being 1-1, former Indian spinner and captain Anil Kumble lavished praise on some young Indian players and mentioned two&nbsp;future superstars.

Having worked closely with pacer Arshdeep Singh, during his sting as Punjab Kings' (PBKS) coach, Kumble lauded the left-arm seamer and reckoned he has a bright future. In his limited international appearances, Arshdeep has taken 39 T20I wickets in 25 matches and was part of Rohit Sharma-led India's Asia Cup and T20 World Cup campaigns.

"Having worked closely with someone like Arshdeep, it’s wonderful to see him grow into what he’s done for India. I would look at Arshdeep as the next superstar bowler coming through," said Kumble on JioCinema.

Among the young batters, India have abundance of talents in the form of Shubman Gill, Ishan Kishan, Prithvi Shaw, Rahul Tripathi and the likes. Kumble, however, picked ODI double centurion Ishan as a superstar in the making.&nbsp;"From a batting perspective, Ishan Kishan is someone who’s been wonderful in the opportunities he’s got. He got a double hundred and he’s someone who I think will be a superstar," Kumble asserted.

Meanwhile, former Indian stumper Parthiv Patel mentioned two different names. "He's (Umran) quick and bowling well and already played for India. He’s someone who can be a superstar. Batting-wise, having seen Tilak Varma in the last couple of years, I had the opportunity to scout him and see the cricketer he has become. We’ve seen his batting ability, and he has the ability to go on and lead the side. He’s someone who comes across as a leader."

At present, Hardik-led Indian T20I team will be eager to win the three-match series versus the Kiwis before the action moves to the much-awaited Border-Gavaskar Trophy between India and visitors Australia, starting on February 09.

IND vs NZ: Arshdeep, Gill, Shaw or Ishan? Anil Kumble names two future superstars of Team India

Ahead of the first ODI between India and Sri Lanka on Tuesday evening (January 10), captain Rohit Sharma confirmed that Shubman Gill will continue to be persisted as his opening partner, with no room for Ishan Kishan. Kishan had replaced an injured Rohit in the third and inconsequential ODI versus Bangladesh, in early December, and made the most of his opportunity to score a double ton. Many believed that Kishan had done enough to cement his spot as an opener, with Shikhar Dhawan dropped, but the Indian team management want to persist with Shubman.&nbsp;

Speaking on his opening partner, Rohit said in the pre-match presser on Monday (January 09),&nbsp;"Both openers (Gill and Kishan) have done really well. But looking at how both have gone through, I think it is fair that we give Gill a chance to have a fair run because in the last games Gill got a lot of runs as well. I am not going to take anything from Ishan. He has been&nbsp;wonderful for us. He got a double hundred and I know what it takes to get a double hundred, it is a great achievement. But just to be honest and be fair to the guys who have done really well before that we need to give those guys enough chances as well."

Rohit added on Kishan, "It is unfortunate that we won't be able to play Ishan but looking at how things have panned out for us in the last 8-9 months, looking at how the ODIs have gone through for us, it is fair to give Gill that run and he has done extremely well in that position. We will definitely try out and keep Ishan in the mix and see how things pan out for us as we play lot of games ahead." In Gill's defence, he has been&nbsp;among runs in the West Indies, Zimbabwe and New Zealand tour but wasn't part of the Indian squad for the Bangladesh series, with the return of the key players. Hence, when Kishan was in the squad and scored a double ton when he got a chance in the playing XI, many believed he would pip Gill to open versus SL.

Thus, former Indian pacer Venkatesh Prasad reacted to Kishan's omission. He tweeted, replying to a cricket portal's post, and wrote, "Think fair would have been to give chance to a man who scored a double hundred in India’s last ODI, and in a series where India lost two games and the series. Have all the time in the world for Gill, but no way you drop a player for scoring a double ton."

In the ongoing first ODI between India and SL, Rohit &amp; Co. lost the toss and were opted to bat first. Rohit and Gill stitched an impressive 143-run first-wicket stand with the youngster returning with a sublime 60-ball 73, studded with 11 fours. For him to cement his place as the second opener, Gill has been consistent but will hope to score some daddy hundreds.&nbsp;

For Kishan, he will surely feel unlucky&nbsp;to have missed out despite scoring the fourth double ton by an Indian in ODIs. However, India have a lot of white-ball cricket to play en route the IPL 2023 edition. Hence, he will aim to once again make the most of his opportunities.

'No way you...': Former Indian speedster blasts Rahul Dravid-Rohit Sharma for dropping Ishan Kishan

Returning India captain Rohit Sharma confirmed his opening partner ahead of the first ODI against Sri Lanka in Guwahati. With Shubman Gill and Ishan Kishan fighting for one place, picking one of them was always going to be tough. The skipper, however, has made up his mind. Speaking to the media on eve of the first match, Rohit confirmed that Shubman Gill will be opening alongside&nbsp;him while the double-centurion in his last ODI outing&nbsp;– Ishan Kishan will be warming the bench.

Explaining this decision, Rohit said Gill has&nbsp;been a proven opener in this format having done well in the past one year;&nbsp;and that the management wants to give him a fair chance going forward.
