While Ishan is a like-for-like replacement for Pant, with both the southpaws being aggressive with the bat, Bharat is more of a steady batter.&nbsp;</p>

<p>It will be interesting to see if Rohit &amp; Co. opt for Ishan and drop Bharat for the mega finale. Further, Hayden also said that India should play both R Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja in the playing XI.</p>

While the management has nearly five days to decide on that, former India coach Ravi Shastri shared his opinion on the same recently.</p>

<p>Speaking with Star Sports, as quoted by ESPNcricinfo, Shastri said all would depend on the conditions. Elaborating further on this, Shastri said if India decides to go ahead with both bowling all-rounders in Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja, then KS Bharat might get the nod. However, looking at the conditions, if they name four pacers in the XI instead, we might see Ishan Kishan getting his debut cap.</p>

<p>Meanwhile, the last time, around two years ago, Shastri was the head coach of the team when India played the inaugural final against New Zealand in Southampton. That time also India had to decide whom to play – either Jadeja or Ashwin, both, or an extra batter in Hanuma Vihari - and the team picked both all-rounders. In that rain-marred contest, India lost the match by eight wickets.</p>

<p>Taking a note from that experience, Shastri said India must read the conditions well and depending on that, should name the final XI.</p>

<p>"When you look at the WTC, if I remember from the last time India were in the final, what you learn from that game is very important," Shastri said. "You've got to pick a team that suits the conditions. Last time in Southampton, the weather was really overcast,” he added.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Shastri, regardless of picking either Bharat or Kishan, named 12 names among which the final 11 will get picked for the one-off Test against Australia.</p>

It will be Rohit [Sharma], Shubman [Gill], [Cheteshwar] Pujara at three, Virat Kohli at four, Ajinkya Rahane five […] Six will be Jadeja, seven will be Mohammed Shami, eight will be [Mohammed] Siraj, nine will be Shardul Thakur, the eleventh will be Ashwin and the twelfth will be Umesh Yadav. So, this will be my twelve,” he added.</p>

<p>"And then, depending on the conditions, if four seamers are playing, then it'll be Umesh and Shardul who'll play with Siraj and Shami. But if two spinners are playing, which should be the case at the Oval, seeing what the weather is existing in England at the moment, where it's nice and sunny at times, then it will be Ashwin, Jadeja, Shardul, Shami and Siraj,” Shastri concluded.</p>

<p>The match will take place from 7-11 June, with the 12th kept as a reserve day.</p>

<p>The Indian team has been missing the services of Pant since December, having suffered serious injuries in a road accident. His continued absence will be a major blow for India as he brings the attacking brand of cricket. KS Bharat has since taken over the first-choice keeper's tag and made his debut for the national side in February against Australia in Nagpur.</p>

<p>Pant is not the only piece missing in the puzzle for India as they also will be without Jasprit Bumrah, Shreyas Iyer, and KL Rahul. With big names missing several players are on the radar and could feature in the WTC final on Wednesday.</p>

<p>Former Australian captain Ricky Ponting has backed India keeper-batter Ishan Kishan to play ahead of KS Bharat in the World Test Championship Final, starting June 7th at the Oval in London. While the consensus says India might go ahead with Bharat for that one spot, many feel, including Ponting, that going with Kishan will be a better choice. &nbsp;</p>

<p>"If I was them [India], knowing the importance of this game - and you have to win this Test match - I'd be going with Ishan Kishan in this game," Ponting said, as quoted by ESPNCricinfo.</p>

<p>"He provides that little bit of X-factor that you need when you might be pushing for a win in a Test match. Obviously, if Rishabh Pant is fit, he is playing, and he provides that X-factor for India. But with him not being there, and this is no blot on Bharat whatsoever, I think Kishan just provides that little bit more X-factor, who'd do a good job with the gloves but can provide that really high-scoring run rate that is required in a one-off Test match to push for a win,” Ponting added.</p>

<p>Ponting said considering what is at stake and this one-off Test is all to play for, he would rather play all the x-factors to ensure India puts Australia under pressure and take the game home.</p>

<p>"I'd be going with as many X-factor players as I could and put some real pressure back on Australia," Ricky further opined.</p>

<p>Ishan and Suryakumar Yadav, two x-factors in Ponting’s eyes, were part of the BGT earlier that India won 2-1. While Surya played the Nagpur Test, and scored eight runs in the only inning he batted in, Ishan warmed the benches during the series.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Although Ishan is considered to be a better white-ball player, given his recent exploits, wherein he became the fourth Indian batter to complete two hundred runs in an ODI inning recently, his first-class numbers read 2985 runs in 48 matches, averaging 38.76 - which are good enough to push for a case in the XI against the mighty Aussies.</p>

As per the latest reports, the board has picked five players, mainly Sarfaraz Khan, Ruturaj Gaikwad, Ishan Kishan, Navdeep Saini and Mukesh Kumar, as backups. Ahead of the final, which begins on June 7th at the Oval, the Indian team will also play a multi-day warm-up game.</p>

<p>As per Times of India (TOI), an unnamed senior BCCI official has conveyed these names for standbys and also informed that those players, who will not feature in the IPL 2023 playoffs, which start from May 23rd, will travel to England earlier than others to get acclimatise to the conditions.&nbsp;&nbsp;</p>

Rahane, sold to CSK for INR 50 lacs at last year's auction, has been a standout performer for Chennai Super Kings this season. Upon hitting his fastest fifty in his debut match for CSK, Rahane broke the shackles with his incredible 29-ball 71 against Kolkata Knight Riders, hitting six fours and five sixes.</p>

<p>Trying to find his feet after losing the BCCI’s central contract, Rahane, who also did well in the Ranji season before this, shined under MS Dhoni in yellow colours – and given his run of form, he is not likely to put a full stop.</p>

<p>While Rahane’s selection raised questions over the criteria for picking players in international cricket, a few others, like former head coach Ravi Shastri backed this call of going ahead with him in the all-important final.</p>

<p>Shivam Mavi made a dream debut with a relentless display of fast bowling as his four-wicket haul made the difference in India's narrow two-run win over a spirited Sri Lanka in the first T20I on Tuesday.</p>

<p>India batters found the Sri Lankan spinners hard to put away before Deepak Hooda (41 not out off 23) and Axar Patel (31 not out off 20) took the hosts to 162 for five.</p>

<p>The Sri Lankans surely had the firepower to chase down 163 but Mavi's strikes at the front and back end of the innings tilted the game in favour of the home team.</p>

<p>The game went down to the wire with spinner Axar Patel managing to defend 13 runs in the final over. Mavi ended with envious figures of four for 22 in four overs.</p>

<p>The fighting knocks from skipper Dasun Shanaka (45 off 27) and Chamika Karunaratne (23 not out off 16) went in vain as Sri Lanka ended 160 all out in 20 overs. This is the lowest total India have defended at the high-scoring Wankhede Stadium.&nbsp;</p>

<p>India`s 227-run victory in a dead-rubber was effectively set up by left-handed opener Ishan Kishan smashing the fastest double hundred in the history of men`s ODI cricket in 126 balls, breaking the previous record of 138-ball double-century by West Indies` Chris Gayle in the 2015 ODI World Cup against Zimbabwe in Canberra.</p>

<p>When he got out for 210 off 131 balls, converting his maiden ODI ton into a double-hundred, Kishan had more records against his name -- the highest individual score by a batter in men`s ODIs in Bangladesh, as well as the highest score by an Indian batter outside of the home. His 210 is also the third-highest individual score by an Indian men`s batter in this format.</p>

He`s also the youngest to hit a double hundred in menis ODI cricket. Ishan&nbsp;also added 290 runs for the second wicket with Virat Kohli, who made his 44th ODI hundred, and his first in the format since August 2019, also his 72nd international hundred, through a 91-ball 113 as India made 409/8 in their 50 overs.</p>

<p>Chasing 410 was always going to be difficult for Bangladesh. Axar Patel broke the 33-run opening stand on the first ball of the fifth over when Anamul Haque holed out to long-off. Three overs later, Litton Das hit straight to the mid-off fielder off Mohammed Siraj. Axar got his second wicket as Mushfiqur Rahim went for the sweep but was castled. Eight overs later, Yasir Ali was trapped lbw by Umran Malik in a successful review by India. Shakib Al Hasan was accumulating runs in his steady flow but chopped onto his stumps off Kuldeep Yadav.</p>

<p>As Mahmudullah was trapped lbw by Washington Sundar and burnt a review while Mehidy Hasan Miraz didn`t produce any heroics with the bat, the result was all but a foregone conclusion as India registered a crushing victory.</p>

He reached the milestone of hitting a double ton in just 126 deliveries, breaking the record (138 balls) set previously by Chris Gayle against Zimbabwe.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The double century came against Bangladesh during the third ODI here in Chattogram.&nbsp; Kishan joins the small yet illustrious list of Indians to have smashed a double century. Previously,&nbsp;Sachin Tendulkar, Virender Sehwag and&nbsp;Rohit Sharma have reached the milestone.</p>

<p>While Tendulkar and Sehwag have scored a double century in ODI once, current Indian skipper Rohit Sharma has achieved the feat thrice, including the highest ever score of 264.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Martin Guptill, Fakhar Zaman and&nbsp;Chris Gayle are the other players to have reached the incredibly rare landmark.&nbsp;</p>
