BTS leader RM becomes 5th male soloist to surpass 600,000 1st-week sales in Hanteo history with 'Indigo'

<p>In order to fulfil the rising demand for air travel and the resulting delays in the delivery of new aircraft, InterGlobe Aviation Ltd, the owner of IndiGo, the leading airline in India, announced on Friday that it is considering "wet leasing" aircraft.&nbsp;</p>

<p>A "wet lease" arrangement is one in which the lessor provides the aircraft and personnel while still maintaining operational control of the flights.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Following the release of IndiGo's second-quarter loss report, the airline's new Chief Executive Officer Pieter Elbers revealed that the company has been prolonging some of its current leases and delaying the return of aircraft.</p>

<p>"Another element which is under discussion today, and we are still in the final stages of clarifying, is a possible wet lease operation," Elbers said.</p>

<p>The demand for air travel has increased to levels that are very similar to those seen before the Covid outbreak, both domestically and abroad.&nbsp;</p>

<p>After its loss for the July-September period worsened because of high fuel expenses and foreign exchange losses, IndiGo said it was optimistic about returning to operational profitability in the current quarter.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The airline anticipates an increase in capacity, as defined by the number of available seats per kilometre, of around 25 per cent&nbsp;from the same period last year. Additionally, it kept its forecast for a 13–17 per cent&nbsp;rise in capacity for the current fiscal year.</p>

<p>"In the coming years, we will build on our strong (domestic)foundations with more international aspirations," Elbers said.</p>

<p>According to IndiGo, fuel prices increased by more than three times during the second quarter compared to the same period last year, and rupee-related foreign exchange losses were 12 billion rupees ($145.88 million) for the three months.</p>

In order to fulfil the rising demand for air travel and the resulting delays in the delivery of new aircraft, InterGlobe Aviation Ltd, the owner of IndiGo, the leading airline in India, announced on Friday that it is considering "wet leasing" aircraft. A "wet lease" arrangement is one in which the lessor provides the aircraft and personnel while still maintaining operational control of the flights. Following the release of IndiGo's second-quarter loss report, the airline's new Chief Executive Officer Pieter Elbers revealed that the company has been prolonging some of its current leases and delaying the return of aircraft. "Another element which is under discussion today, and we are still in the final stages of clarifying, is a possible wet lease operation," Elbers said. The demand for air travel has increased to levels that are very similar to those seen before the Covid outbreak, both domestically and abroad. After its loss for the July-September period worsened because of high fuel expenses and foreign exchange losses, IndiGo said it was optimistic about returning to operational profitability in the current quarter. Additionally, it kept its forecast for a 13–17 per cent rise in capacity for the current fiscal year. "In the coming years, we will build on our strong (domestic)foundations with more international aspirations," Elbers said. According to IndiGo, fuel prices increased by more than three times during the second quarter compared to the same period last year, and rupee-related foreign exchange losses were 12 billion rupees ($145.88 million) for the three months. Earlier on July 5, a Dubai-bound SpiceJet aircraft from Delhi was diverted to Karachi city due to a malfunctioning fuel indicator light in the cockpit. All the 150 passengers were said to be safe. Indigo levies 'cute fee' on passengers, netizens find it hysterical

<p>The word 'Indigo' was perhaps a cause&nbsp;of anger and even outright revolt against East India Company in pre-independence India. A simple Google search would reveal as much. Though it's a little weird to connect the two but what happened on July 2, 2022 is an apparent hark back. This one was not a revolt, everybody would of course have wanted to be politically correct. But the end effect was some company finding it hard to carry out its daily business.</p>

<p>IndiGo, India's largest airline struggled to keep its flights on time. About 55 per cent of the company's flights were delayed.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Reason?</p>

<p>A large number of its cabin crew called in sick. And mass recruitment by Air India appeared to be too obvious for the sudden sickness to seem mere&nbsp;co-incidental.</p>

<p>Sources in India's aviation industry have been quoted in the media reports as saying that there was a fat chance IndiGo employees took a leave to ensure fatter paychecks at Air India recruitment drive.</p>

<p>The phase-2 of Air India's recruitment drive was conducted on Saturday, July 2.</p>

<p>IndiGo, India's largest airline, currently operates approximately 1,600 flights --domestic and international -- daily.</p>

<p>News agency Press Trust of India said IndiGo and Air India did not respond to its requests for statements.</p>

<p>According to the Ministry of Civil Aviation's website, 45.2 per cent of IndiGo's domestic flights operated on time on Saturday.</p>

<p>In comparison, the on-time performances of Air India, SpiceJet, Vistara, Go First and AirAsia India was 77.1 per cent, 80.4 per cent, 86.3 per cent, 88 per cent and 92.3 per cent, respectively, on Saturday.</p>

<p>IndiGo CEO Ronjoy Dutta had on April 8 told employees through an email that raising salaries is a difficult and thorny issue but the airline will constantly review and adjust wages based on its profitability and the competitive environment.</p>

<p>IndiGo had on April 4 suspended a few pilots who were planning to organise a strike the next day to protest against the pay cuts that were implemented during the peak of the COVID-19 pandemic.</p>

IndiGo says systems back to normal after outage hits flyers

<p>India's biggest airline IndiGo reported its biggest-ever quarterly loss on higher maintenance costs and cut capacity expansion targets, at a time when the industry is grappling with slowing passenger growth in a sluggish economy.</p>

<p>IndiGo parent InterGlobe Aviation Ltd's net loss grew to 10.66 billion rupees ($150 million) in the three months to September&nbsp;30 from 6.52 billion rupees a year earlier, the only other instance that the airline reported a quarterly loss.</p>

<p>Maintenance costs spiked as IndiGo was forced to reassess the expense of leasing and maintaining older Airbus&nbsp;A320ceo planes to fill a gap caused by the grounding of newer A320neo aircraft due to engine issues, Chief Financial Officer Aditya Pande said on a call with analysts on Thursday.</p>

<p>The company also cut its expectations for capacity expansion for 2019-20 to 25 per cent&nbsp;from 30 per cent, blaming a 3-4 month delay in aircraft deliveries by Airbus. It projected capacity growth of 25 per cent&nbsp;for 2020-21.</p>

<p>The results come against the backdrop of an escalating tussle between IndiGo co-founders and top two shareholders Rakesh Gangwal and Rahul Bhatia over corporate governance issues and future strategy.</p>

<p>Gangwal had alleged that Bhatia's affiliate IGE Group had unusual control over IndiGo. Earlier this month, Bhatia alleged Gangwal had breached shareholder agreements and filed cases in courts in London and the United States, according to media reports.</p>

<p>Some analysts said the feud will not hurt IndiGo's performance, while others believe a prolonged dispute could impact high-level decision making at the Gurugram-based airline.</p>

<p><strong>'Softening economic environment'</strong></p>

<p>IndiGo's quarterly loss also comes as Asia's third-largest economy grows at its slowest pace in years and domestic passenger growth cools.</p>

<p>Although IndiGo flew more customers compared with a year earlier, domestic passenger traffic in India rose only 1.2 per cent&nbsp;year-over-year in September, the slowest increase since March and the second-worst pace in at least five years.</p>

<p>"The revenues in the festive season have been somewhat subdued," Chief Executive Ronojoy Dutta said on the conference call, referring to October, a typically strong period for consumer spending.</p>

<p>"Are we in a softening economic environment? It looks like it."</p>

<p>Dutta also estimated a "flattish" year-over-year change in 2019-20 unit revenue, a measure that compares revenue to flight capacity and is used to gauge efficiency.</p>

<p>Still, IndiGo's quarterly revenue from operations surged 31 per cent&nbsp;to 81.05 billion rupees.</p>

<p>IndiGo and smaller rival SpiceJet Ltd have benefited this year from the collapse of cash-strapped Jet Airways, once India's largest private carrier, as both raced to fill Jet's vacated slots.</p>

<p>IndiGo's overall expenses rose 27.6 per cent to 95.77 billion rupees, while costs related to aircraft repair and maintenance surged 88 per cent&nbsp;to 15.3 billion rupees.</p>

<p>The higher costs are expected to continue for the next couple of quarters and taper off in 2022, CFO Pande said.</p>

It projected capacity growth of 25 per cent for 2020-21. The results come against the backdrop of an escalating tussle between IndiGo co-founders and top two shareholders Rakesh Gangwal and Rahul Bhatia over corporate governance issues and future strategy. Gangwal had alleged that Bhatia's affiliate IGE Group had unusual control over IndiGo. Earlier this month, Bhatia alleged Gangwal had breached shareholder agreements and filed cases in courts in London and the United States, according to media reports. Some analysts said the feud will not hurt IndiGo's performance, while others believe a prolonged dispute could impact high-level decision making at the Gurugram-based airline. 'Softening economic environment' IndiGo's quarterly loss also comes as Asia's third-largest economy grows at its slowest pace in years and domestic passenger growth cools. Although IndiGo flew more customers compared with a year earlier, domestic passenger traffic in India rose only 1.2 per cent year-over-year in September, the slowest increase since March and the second-worst pace in at least five years. "The revenues in the festive season have been somewhat subdued," Chief Executive Ronojoy Dutta said on the conference call, referring to October, a typically strong period for consumer spending. "Are we in a softening economic environment? It looks like it." Dutta also estimated a "flattish" year-over-year change in 2019-20 unit revenue, a measure that compares revenue to flight capacity and is used to gauge efficiency. Still, IndiGo's quarterly revenue from operations surged 31 per cent to 81.05 billion rupees. IndiGo and smaller rival SpiceJet Ltd have benefited this year from the collapse of cash-strapped Jet Airways, once India's largest private carrier, as both raced to fill Jet's vacated slots. IndiGo's overall expenses rose 27.6 per cent to 95.77 billion rupees, while costs related to aircraft repair and maintenance surged 88 per cent to 15.3 billion rupees. The higher costs are expected to continue for the next couple of quarters and taper off in 2022, CFO Pande said.
