Rohit Sharma-led India lost their first game in the Men's T20 World Cup 2022 when they went down to South Africa by five wickets in Perth on Sunday (October 30). While they very remain alive in the race for the semifinals, BCCI selection committee, on Monday (October 31), announced India's T20I squad for the New Zealand series, in Black Caps' backyard, post the ongoing ICC event.

As expected, regular captain Rohit, KL Rahul, Virat Kohli and some big names have been rested as Hardik Panya will lead the Men in Blue, with Rishabh Pant as his deputy. After the squad announcement, chief selector and former player Chetan Sharma opined on Rohit-Kohli's T20I future with regard to the next edition of the T20 WC, in 2024.

"In the middle of the tournament, how do you expect the chairman of selectors to speak to somebody? I shouldn't be speaking to anyone (about their future) in the middle of the tournament. They are such big players, if they are getting to understand something, they themselves will come and talk to us," Sharma said while addressing a virtual presser.

Apart from the NZ T20I squad, BCCI also named India's ODI squad for the series versus the Kiwis and the ODI, Test squad for the Bangladesh tour, which will commence in December.

While the squad sees the return of Rohit, Kohli and many other senior players, including all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja, Jasprit Bumrah continues to be out due to back injury which made him skip the T20 WC. Opening up on Bumrah, Sharma admitted the selectors' mistake and said, "We tried to hurry Jasprit Bumrah before the T20 World Cup and you saw what happened. So we want to be patient now. Little cautious to have him in Bangladesh tour."

Chetan Sharma opines on Rohit, Kohli's future for 2024 T20 WC, reveals where they went wrong with Bumrah

India lost to South Africa by five wickets in their third Super 12 clash at the Men's T20 World Cup on Sunday (October 30) at the Perth Stadium, Perth. Batting first, India managed only a paltry 133-9 riding on Suryakumar Yadav's 40-ball 68. In reply, SA were 40-3 in ten overs before fifties from Aiden Markram and David Miller lead their side to a win in 19.4 overs as they now occupy the top spot in their group. After the loss, many pointed fingers at Rohit Sharma for choosing R Ashwin to bowl the 18th over, with SA still in need of 25 off the final 18 balls. While Ashwin removed Tristan Stobbs, he conceded two sixes to bring down the equation in favour of the Proteas.

Many thought Hitman had irked with his tactics by not giving the ball to Md Shami or Bhuvneshwar Kumar in the 18th over (with both pacers left with an over each). At the post-match presentation, Rohit explained the thought process behind his move and said, "I've seen what happens with the spinners in the last over, so I wanted to go the other way. If I can finish Ash, I just wanted to make sure that the seamers are bowling the right overs. You have to use it at some point. With the new batter, it was the perfect time for him to bowl. Miller played some good shots as well."

During India's defence, Arshdeep Singh (2 for 25), Md Shami (1 for 13) and Hardik Pandya (1 for 29) were the most effective bowlers whereas Bhuvi also remained economical, raising questions with his swing. However, Ashwin went for plenty as Markram-Miller went after him to ease the pressure. The wily off-spinner ended with 4-0-43-1 but could've gotten the wicket of Markam, in the 12th over, had Virat Kohli held onto a simple catch at the deep.

After the defeat, India will now face Bangladesh (on November 02) and Zimbabwe (on November 06). They remain in contention for a spot in the semi-finals despite a defeat at the hands of a strong South African side.

T20 WC: Rohit Sharma explains thought process behind giving the ball to R Ashwin in 18th over vs SA

The Perth hotel has taken swift action and suspended the individuals involved after Indian cricket team superstar Virat Kohli complained about a breach of privacy on Monday (October 31). Issuing an apology to Kohli and the Indian cricket team, the hotel said the video has been taken down from the social media handles of the concerned individuals.

Kohli took to social media on Monday to express his disappointment after his room was invaded by unknown individuals who filmed inside and posted the video on social media. The former India captain said the video was 'appalling' and made him feel 'paranoid' about his own privacy.

After huge outrage from the cricket fraternity, Crown Resorts, the hotel in question where the Indian team stayed in Perth, said it was incredibly disappointed over the incident. The hotel confirmed that all individuals concerned have been stood down and that further investigation is being conducted into the matter.

"The safety and privacy of our guests is our number one priority, and we are incredibly disappointed this incident has occurred. We unreservedly apologise to the guest involved and will continue to take the necessary steps to ensure this remains an isolated incident," Crown said in a statement.

Perth hotel issues apology, suspends staff who leaked video of Virat Kohli's personal room

Team India conceded their first game in the Men's T20 World Cup 2022 edition, losing to South Africa by five wickets at the Perth Stadium, Perth on Sunday (October 30). Batting first on a spicy wicket, Rohit Sharma-led India never got going and were reduced to 49 for 5 in no time before Suryakumar Yadav's gutsy and entertaining 40-ball 68 propelled India to 133-9 in 20 overs. In reply, SA were tottering at 40-3 at the halfway stage before the fifties from Aiden Markram (52) and David Miller (59 not out) took their side home in the last over. With the win, the Temba Bavuma-led Proteas now occupy the top spot in Group B.

Talking about India, the one-time winners' campaign is still on track and they very much remain in the race to seal a semi-final spot. Given India started their campaign with two back-to-back wins, they have four points from three games and will now face Bangladesh (November 02) and Zimbabwe (November 6) in their last two group stage encounters. After the defeat to South Africa, India is likely to end in the second spot and qualify for the last four.

While anything can happen in the remaining matches at the T20 WC, there are quite a few incredible patterns for Team India which indicate that they might have the final laugh at the ICC event in Australia. Here's a look at such factors which point out that it might be Rohit & Co.'s T20 WC:

1) The last time India successfully defended a score versus Australia in a warm-up game prior to the World Cup was in 2011. Ahead of the 2011 ODI WC, MS Dhoni's India dismissed Australia for a paltry 176 after posting 214, at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium, Bengaluru. In the run-up to the T20 WC 2022 Down Under, the Men in Blue did the same by defending a competitive score, 186 for 7, by six runs. Will 2011 heroics repeat this time around?

2) Ireland defeated England in the group stage of the T20 WC 2022 edition on October 26, at the MCG, Melbourne. The last time the Irish side defeated the Three Lions in a World Cup was in 2011. Well, we all know which side walked away with the mega title.

3) The last time SA defeated India in an ICC event came in the 2011 ODI WC. Back then, the Proteas defeated India with two balls to spare. On Sunday (October 30), Bavuma & Co. also won in 19.4 overs.

4) The last time India faced the Netherlands in an ICC event was also in 2011. Before that, they had faced them during the 2003 edition of the 50-over World Cup. So, whenever India have faced the Dutch line-up, they have reached the finals; winning the championship in the last instance.

After India's defeat versus the Proteas, captain Rohit said at the post-match presentation, "We expected that the pitch will have something in it. We knew that there'll be a lot of help for the seamers, that's why it wasn't an easy target to chase. We fell a little short with the bat. We fought well, but South Africa were better today. When you see that score (40/3 in 10), you'll always think you're in the game. That was a match-winning partnership from Markram and Miller. We were a little poor in the field, we gave so many chances and we weren't clinical. We were just not good enough."

Four incredible patterns that suggest India might lift the T20 World Cup 2022 trophy

South Africa defeated India by five wickets in a low-scoring thriller in the T20 World Cup 2022 on Sunday (October 30) to claim the top spot in Group 2 of the Super 12. The Proteas chased down the target of 134 runs with two balls to spare to hand Rohit Sharma & Co. their first defeat in the tournament.

Aiden Markram and David Miller slammed half-centuries apiece to bail South Africa out of trouble in the tricky run-chase after the Proteas were left reeling at 24/3 at one stage. While Markram scored 52 off 41 balls, Miller smashed a quickfire unbeaten 59 off 46 balls to take South Africa over the line.

South Africa are now the only unbeaten team in Group 2 and are comfortably placed at the top spot with five points from three matches. Their game against Zimbabwe was washed out due to rain which saw them lose a point. However, they are favourites to secure a spot in the semi-finals from their group.

India have slipped to the second spot after their five-wicket defeat as their unbeaten streak came to an end on Sunday. However, India remain firm favourites to qualify for the semi-finals with 4 points from three matches so far and two games to play. Bangladesh are third with as many points as India but a lower net run rate. Pakistan and Zimbabwe are at the fourth and fifth spot respectively in Group 2.

T20 World Cup 2022 points table: A look at Super 12 standings after India's loss against South Africa

Former Pakistan captain Shahid Afridi came up with a cheeky response to veteran Indian spinner Amit Mishra's hilarious dig at current Pakistan skipper Babar Azam over his poor form. Mishra had taken to Twitter on Sunday to aim a potshot at Babar after his flop show in Pakistan's Super 12 clash against Netherlands in the ongoing T20 World Cup 2022.

Babar was dismissed cheaply on just 4 runs against Netherlands in Perth as his woeful run with the bat continued in the T20 World Cup. Referring to an old tweet he had posted for Virat Kohli during his lean patch earlier this year, Mishra wrote - "This too shall pass. Stay strong @babarazam258."

His tweet soon went viral on social media invoking mixed reactions from fans as Babar had tweeted in support of Kohli, who was at the time receiving criticism from all corners over his poor form. The Pakistan captain's gesture for his Indian counterpart had been lauded by many.

However, Mishra's dig on him in reference to his old tweet didn't go down well with many on social media as many said it was not in good taste. Afridi was asked about Mishra's tweet during a show on Pakistan's Samaa TV. He refused to speak much on it but took a brutal jibe at the Indian spinner.

"Ye jo aap naam le rahe hain Amit Mishra, ye bhi India se khela hua hai. Ye spinner tha ki batsman tha? (This name you’re taking, Amit Mishra, he has also played for India. Was he a spinner or a batsman?)" - Afridi said on Pakistan's Samaa TV.

After being told that Mishra was a spinner, Afridi said - "Koi baat nahi. Chalein aage. This too shall pass. (Don’t worry. Let’s move on)."

Babar has been enduring a lean patch in the ongoing T20 World Cup 2022 where he is yet to fire for Pakistan. The prolific right-hander has looked completely out of sorts in the first three games of the tournament and has managed only 8 runs in what has been a disastrous campaign for him.

Babar's poor form has also seen Pakistan struggle in the tournament as they have managed only one win in their first three matches. Pakistan lost their opening game against India before suffering a shock defeat at the hands of Zimbabwe in their second Super 12 clash. They bounced back to win their third game against Netherlands on Sunday.

'Has he also played for India?': Shahid Afridi takes a dig at Amit Mishra over his tweet on Babar Azam

David Miller and Aiden Markram combined to steer South Africa home in a tricky run-chase as the Proteas defeated India by five wickets in the T20 World Cup 2022 on Sunday (October 28). It was a low-scoring thriller between the two sides in Perth as South Africa managed to come out on top after holding their nerves towards the end.

After an excellent effort with the ball to stop India on a paltry 133, South Africa found themselves in troubled waters early in their run chase as Indian bowlers gave the Proteas a taste of their own medicine with the ball.

Arshdeep Singh continued his fine form with the new ball as he struck twice in his very first over to get rid of Quinton de Kock on just one off 3 balls and Rilee Rossouw on a duck.

South African skipper Temba Bavuma too couldn't trouble the scorers much and departed for just 10 off 15 balls as his men were left reeling on 24/3 inside the Powerplay. However, Markram and Miller combined to post a match-winning 76-run stand for the fourth wicket as they helped South Africa stage a comeback in the contest.

While Markram took charge in the middle overs after the run rate started slipping away from South Africa's reach, it was Miller, who finished off the proceedings in style after his dismissal. Markram slammed a crucial 52 off 41 deliveries while Miller played an important knock of unbeaten 59 to steer his team over the line.

Suryakumar Yadav played a terrific knock of 40-ball 68 but his superlative effort went in vain as South Africa managed to hand India their first defeat in the tournament. It was an excellent bowling effort from the Proteas, who rode on an exceptional spell from Lungi Ngidi to restrict India to a low-key total.

Ngidi was the pick of the bowlers for South Africa as he ran through India's top-order to finish with brilliant figures of 4/29 in his four overs and was awarded the Man of the Match for his bowling heroics. Ngidi was well supported by Wayne Parnell, who picked up three wickets while conceding only 15 runs off his four overs.

The loss brought an end to India's winning streak in the tournament as South Africa grabbed the top spot in Group 2 with five points from three matches so far. India are at the second spot with four points and are still comfortably placed to secure a spot in the semi-finals with two games in hands.

T20 World Cup: Miller, Ngidi help South Africa beat India by 5 wickets to claim top spot in Group 2

Suryakumar Yadav played a brilliant knock of 68 runs off 40 balls as he turned out to be India's saviour in their Super 12 clash against South Africa in the T20 World Cup 2022 on Sunday (October 30). On a day when the Indian batter struggles against the quality Proteas pace attack, Suryakumar continued his red-hot form with the bat.

Opting to bat first, India got off to a woeful start as they lost wickets in quick succession at the top to be left reeing at 49/5 in no time. With half the side back to the dugout, Suryakumar combined with Dinesh Karthik to steady the ship for the Men in Blue as the duo added 52 runs for the sixth wicket.

However, 46 out of those 52 runs were scored by Suryakumar, who single-handedly helped India post a sighting total of 133 runs on the board. En route to his half-century, the star India batter became only the third player to score over 900 runs in T20Is in a calendar year to join Pakistan's Babar Azam and Mohammad Rizwan in the elite list.

Rizwan tops the charts when it comes to most runs by a batter in T20Is in a calendar year as he scored 1326 runs in 29 matches last year, including 12 fifties. Babar had amassed 939 runs in 29 matches last year with the help of nine fifties. They are now joined by Suryakumar in the list of batters who have completed 900 runs in a calendar year in the shortest format.

Suryakumar has so far scored 935 runs in 26 matches this year at an average of over 42 and a stunning strike rate of 183.69, including eight half-centuries. Earlier this year, he had broken Virat Kohli's record for most runs by an Indian batter in a calendar year in T20Is.

Suryakumar didn't have an ideal start in the ongoing T20 World Cup 2022 as he had failed to get going in the opener against Pakistan. However, the star batter bounced back with a quickfire 25-ball 51 against Netherlands and followed it up with another half-century against the Proteas on Sunday.

His 68 off 40 balls was laced with three sixes and six fours as the right-hander displayed great composure and grit throughout his knock while batting under immense pressure. India have managed two wins in their first two games in the tournament and will be hoping to continue their winning streak on Sunday.

Suryakumar Yadav joins Babar, Rizwan in elite list after brilliant 68-run knock against South Africa in T20 WC

Former India opener Gautam Gambhir was left surprised by the Indian team's decision to drop all-rounder Axar Patel for Deepak Hooda in the playing for their clash against South Africa in the ongoing T20 World Cup 2022 on Sunday (October 30). After failing to make the cut in the playing XI for India's first two Super 12 matches, Hooda finally made his T20 World Cup debut on Sunday.

Binging in Hooda for Axar was the only change India made in their playing XI from their last win against Netherlands. Gambhir failed to understand the logic behind the selection and asked where did India plan to play Hooda. He also argued if Hooda can be relied upon as India's sixth bowler.

"Ya, it was quite surprising for me. Why would you want to go with a batter when something is working for you. I know Axar has not bowled a lot, but he has bowled four overs in the previous game. India has gone with only 5 main bowlers and Hooda is your sixth bowler. Probably the reason could be that South Africa have a couple of left-handers in their ranks, that is the only reason I can think of," Gambhir said on Star Sports ahead of the start of the game.

Hooda, who made his T20 debut for India earlier this year, showcased exceptional form with the bat to earn a spot in the team's squad for the ongoing T20 World Cup 2022. However, he had to wait for his chance as India went with Axar as their second all-rounder alongside Hardik Pandya.

While he has been consistent in the anchor's role in the middle and the top order, Gambhir felt India could have gone with a striker of the ball lower down the order instead of playing Hooda. However, he insisted the fact that South Africa have a couple of left-handers in their batting line-up might have prompted the Indian team to select Hooda, who can be a handy leg-spinner.

"But where you are going to play him? Are you going to play him at number 7? He is not someone who can bat at number 7. It is good to depth in your batting, there is nothing wrong in it, but it depends on who you are getting. If the batter is suited for the position, that also matters. And we will have to wait and watch how India fare with a less strong bowling line-up," Gambhir added.

Hooda's selection didn't work out for India as he was dismissed on a duck after coming out to bat at number five against the Proteas on Sunday. On a day when the entire India batting line-up struggled on a tricky wicket in Perth, it was Suryakumar Yadav who turned out to be the team's saviour.

Suryakumar played a brilliant knock of 68 runs off 40 balls to help India post a respectable total of 133 runs on the board after they were left reeling at 49/5 at one stage in their innings. India will be looking to wrap up South Africa's run-chase early and bag their third win in a row.

Virat Kohli on Sunday added another feather to his illustrious cap by achieving a huge milestone in his T20I career. The senior India batter became the first player from the country to complete 1,000 runs in the T20 World Cup and the second overall to achieve the feat.

Kohli, who has been enjoying a purple patch in the ongoing T20 World Cup in Australia, didn't have an ideal outing against the Proteas on Sunday but did enough to breach the 1000 run-mark in the T20 World Cup. Kohli needed 11 runs to achieve the feat and scored 12 to become the first Indian to do so.

Kohli is also on the brink of becoming the highest run-getter in the history of the T20 World Cup. He now has 1,001 runs to his name in 24 matches at the T20 World Cup at a brilliant average of 83.41, and a strike rate of over 131, including 12 fifties.

On Sunday, Kohli arrived early in the middle after India got off to a shaky start against South Africa. They lost captain Rohit Sharma cheaply on 15 off 14 balls after te Hitman miscued a shot trying to go big. KL Rahul followed suit as his struggles continued with the right-hander managing only 9 off 14 balls.

Kohli looked in great touch as he smacked back-to-back boundaries against Lungi Ngidi in the seventh over but got dismissed by the South African pacer after a stunning catch from Kagiso Rabada at long leg. India's woes were further intensified after Deepak Hooda, who came in at number 5, was sent packing on a duck leavng the team reeling on 42/4 inside just 8 overs.

Virat Kohli becomes first Indian player to achieve massive T20 World Cup milestone

Former India captain Kapil Dev has urged the Indian team management to play Rishabh Pant over Dinesh Karthik in the Men in Blue's clash against South Africa in the ongoing T20 World Cup 2022 on Sunday (October 30). India have gotten off to a flying start in the tournament with two wins in their first two games and will be hoping to maintain their winning streak in the third Super 12 clash against the Proteas.

Karthik has been India's first-choice wicket-keeper batter so far in the tournament but hasn't got too many chances to impress as he bats in the lower-middle order as the team's designated finisher. While he hasn't batted enough, he hasn't been flawless while keeping wickets.

Speaking ahead of the crucial clash against South Africa, Kapil India should look at playing Pant as he will provide a left-hand option in the middle order and his wicket-keeping can be like a breath of fresh air for the team making it look complete.

"I want to say that since we have Rishabh Pant, now is the time India need him. It felt as if Dinesh Karthik would get the job done, but factoring in the wicketkeeping as well, I feel that if India have that left-hander option in the team, this team would look complete," Kapil said on ABP News.

Kapil also backed struggling KL Rahul to find his form soon in the ongoing tournament. Rahul has looked completely out of touch in the first two games and has managed only 13 runs so far. The former India captain said Rahul needs to be patient at the top and take his time initially as he has the skills to accelerate when needed.

"He is a very neat cricketer. If you look at his batting, he doesn't appear to be struggling. He gets out and has in fact, played on twice or thrice. I want him to score runs because it is really important for him to score. Some players are told not to play fast. He can take time initially because he can easily accelerate as and when needed. I want him to play patiently, play the first 8-10 overs, and then when he gets an idea what total is best on the pitch, then go for it," said Kapil.

Team would look complete: Kapil Dev urges India to play Rishabh Pant over Dinesh Karthik vs South Africa

At 37, Dinesh Karthik could well be playing his last ICC tournament, having been a part of global event squad for the first time back in 2007. At 25, Rishabh Pant has years of top-flight cricket left in him. He batted from start to finish during the nets but a place in the playing eleven still looks like a distant reality.

Both are at different stages of their lives -- Karthik doing some special 'blind drills' so that people don't criticise his keeping in what could be his last big tournament.

While gathering a powerful throw, he seemed to be in pain and took off his main gloves and looked at his 'inners'.
In case of Pant, there was passion and anger of a youth in his batting session as Rahul Dravid spent the maximum time looking at his batting.

At times he treated Shardul Thakur and Mohammed Siraj with utter disdain. At other times, he played and missed but didn't leave the nets.

On one of the coldest days in Perth, the focus of India's net session was Karthik's unique keeping drills under supervision of fielding coach T Dilip.

Blind Drill is a specific keeping exercise done to increase alertness as keepers get blindsided by batters when the ball comes to them at last the moment.

Dilip kept a couple of red and white markers at least four feet apart and put a white towel on them. As Karthik crouched behind the imaginary stumps, Dilip from the other kept an inclined plane used for giving sharp catches and hit the balls between the two road markers and in a manner that it gets deflected by the towel.

The towel is like a batter, who is covering the ball, and even if he misses it, the keeper would get a sight of the delivery at the last moment. This training is specially done to get the reflexes in order if someone like an Axar Patel, who bowls his deliveries at a quicker pace beats the bat.

Karthik had missed an easy stumping chance against the Netherlands as could watch the ball only when it had come near him at the last moment. The drill has two-fold benefits - it helps in making the reflexes quick and improves footwork.

The second set of the drill was with the big kit bag after removing the marker. Now Dilip was hurling the ball down the leg-side and a crouched Karthik needed deft footwork even if he is wrong-footed and gather the wide leg-side balls when bowlers lose their line.

Later, Karthik practiced catches off awkward edges. Here, the team used a special rubber bat with rough and rugged edges. The moment the ball hits those rugged cuts, it could fly in any direction - inside edge, outside edge, lob on-front, or just nosedive.

It was mental conditioning coach Paddy Upton, who batted left-handed during the drills. In fact coach Rahul Dravid had instructed net bowlers (spinners) to bowl fast and quick into the stumps when Karthik was keeping.

"We got an instruction from Indian coaches to flight it less and bowl fast and keep it within stumps without much turn for Karthik to keep. We are not used to bowling this quick in Grade cricket but it was good fun," said one of the net bowlers Khilesh.

As Karthik did his drills, Pant batted and batted at the other nets. One could gauge he is hurting. You are not a champion player if you are not hurt by snub.

After the two-hour session, when everyone thought he was packing his kits, he took out his keeping gear and asked Nuwan Senaviratne to give him throwdowns for another 15 minutes.

It seemed he didn't want to leave the Optus Stadium even if the temperature was around 10-12 degrees.
He obliged the selfie hunters as well as the journalists. Shook hands with familiar faces and exchanged pleasantries. But it was clear, he was hurt at being left out of playing XI.

"Rishabh bhai open kaarlo, India ki zindaagi badal jayegi," a fan shouted from the other side of the fence. Rishabh looked back and started walking.

Even he wants to open but is the team management listening.

The chairman of selectors Chetan Sharma was present during the optional training session but quietly watched proceedings from a distance. Unlike some of the series after he had become the coach, Sharma wasn't seen voluntarily entering the nets or talking to the bowlers.

Rather he chose a safe distance behind the fast bowler's bowling mark and watched coaches Rahul Dravid, Paras Mhambrey and Vikram Rathour monitor the session. Once the practice was over, he was seen sharing a laugh with Karthik as they walked back.

'Can’t wait to retire': Australia captain Aaron Finch wants to watch India-Pakistan game live

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) president Roger Binny has heaped praise on senior India batter Virat Kohli after his stunning knock against Pakistan in the ongoing T20 World Cup 2022. Kohli smashed an unbeaten 82 against Babar Azam & Co. to help India secure a 4-wicket win in a last-ball thriller at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG) on Thursday.

In pursuit of a tricky target of 160 runs, India were in deep trouble when the Men in Blue were left reeling at 31/4 inside just seven overs after losing their top order in no time. However, Kohli combined with Hardik Pandya to pull India back into the contest and set up a nail-biting win for the team.

Speaking at his felicitation ceremony at the Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA) on Friday, Binny, who recently took charge as the new BCCI president said watching Kohli bat against Pakistan was a dream for him. The 1983 World Cup winner said it was a fantastic win for India and a game that every fan wanted to watch.

"It was like a dream for me. Couldn't realise the way the ball was being hit in the park by Kohli. It was a fantastic victory. You never see such matches where most of the time the match was in Pakistan's favour and all of a sudden it came back to India. Good for the game as it's what the crowd wants to see," said Binny.

Kohli was under tremendous pressure earlier this year having dealt with a prolonged lean patch with the willow in all formats of the game. Nothing seemed to be going right for the senior India batter, however, he made a strong comeback in the Asia Cup earlier this year where he notched up his 71st international century before continuing his purple patch in the ongoing T20 World Cup 2022.

After his stunning 82 against Pakistan, Kohli followed it up with a brilliant 62 off 44 balls against Netherlands on Thursday. The Team India superstar is currently the leading run-getter in the T20 World Cup with 144 runs to his name and has played a key role in India's first two wins in the tournament.

Praising him for his strong mindset and ability to deal with pressure, Binny said players like Kohli don't need to prove anything to anyone as they know how to come out of pressure situations.

"Kohli didn't have to prove himself. He is a class player and players like him thrive in pressure situations. Pressure brings out the best of them," said the BCCI president.

Kohli will next be seen in action on Sunday (October 30) when India lock horns with South Africa in their third Super 12 clash of the ongoing T20 World Cup. India will be aiming to continue their winning run and bagging their third win on the trot when they lock horns with the Proteas.

Also Read: Kohli becomes 2nd highest run-getter in T20 WC, moves closer to Jayawardene's tally Praising him for his strong mindset and ability to deal with pressure, Binny said players like Kohli don't need to prove anything to anyone as they know how to come out of pressure situations.

In pursuit of a modest 131, in Perth, Babar Azam-led Pakistan were 88 for 3 in 13.3 overs before they collapsed and were restricted to 129 for 8 to lose by one run in their Super 12 clash versus Zimbabwe in the T20 World Cup, on Thursday (October 27).

After a last-ball defeat at the hands of arch-rivals India, many expected Pakistan to get off the mark in their face-off versus the Craig Ervine-led African side. However, the lowly-ranked side opted to bat first and only managed 130/8 but kept fighting hard and held their nerves to go past the 2009 winners by a run on the last ball of the epic clash.

Following Pakistan's shocking defeat, many former cricketers have slammed the Men in Green team management. Shoaib Akhtar, known as the Rawalpindi Express, also lashed out at his national side and also predicted India's fortunes in the mega event in Australia. While Rohit Sharma & Co. are at the top of Group B, Akhtar feels Pakistan will return home next week and India will follow suit after a semi-final defeat.

"I had already told Pakistan that they will come back this week. And India will come back next week after playing in the semi-final. Voh bhi koi Tees Maar Khan nahi hai (India are also not some unbeatable side) and we are even worse," Akhtar said on his YouTube channel.

Akhtar then shifted his focus on Team Pakistan's flaws and said, "I have been saying this repeatedly, these openers, the middle order aren’t good enough for us to get success at this level. What can I say? Pakistan have a bad captain. Pakistan is out of the world cup in the second game. Against Zimbabwe. Babar, come one down but he is not listening. Major flaw in Shaheen Afridi’s fitness. A major flaw in captaincy."

A dejected Akhtar further opined, "What kind of cricket do you want to play? For god’s sake, you have lost to Zimbabwe. Don’t you understand your cricket is deteriorating? The management and the PCB chairman don’t have brains … We had to play 4 bowlers, and we played 3 fast bowlers. A proper middle order is needed, you are selecting something else."

The former pacer was also unimpressed with Pakistan going ahead with Shan Masood and overlooking Fakhar Zaman. Masood has had scores of 52 not out and 44 in the two games.

"Two good openers were needed who can use the 30-yard circle. Fakhar Zaman is sitting there; you didn’t use him. He is a back-foot player, and would do well in Australia…It’s really really embarrassing. Ultimately, it’s not you but we have to face the media. We have to sit in India. We have to give answers to the world. What answers can we give now? No plans, no middle order, no openers … I was saying if Zimbabwe bowled length balls, they would win here. I don’t have trust in this team," Akhtar added.

At the post-match presentation, Babar said, "We would have taken 130 at the halfway stage. Very disappointing performance, we are not up to the mark in batting. We have good batters but both openers got out in the powerplay. When Shadab and Shan were building partnership, unfortunately Shadab got out and then back-to-back wickets that pushed us into pressure situation. First 6 overs, we haven't used the new ball well but we finished well with the ball. We will sit out, discuss our mistakes and we will train hard and come back strong in our next game."

T20 WC: India not an unbeatable side, we are even worse, says Shoaib Akhtar after Pakistan lose to Zimbabwe

Virat Kohli produced a masterclass in India's T20 World Cup (T20 WC) opener when they faced Pakistan at the MCG, Melbourne on October 23 (Sunday). Opting to bowl first, Rohit Sharma-led India restricted the Men in Green for 159 for 8, with three-fers from Arshdeep Singh and Hardik Pandya.

In reply, India were tottering at 31 for 4 and needed 115 off the last 60 balls with Kohli-Hardik in the middle. The duo stitched an impressive 113-run fifth-wicket stand to take the game to the last over, with 16 needed for a memorable victory. India eventually got past the finish line on the last ball of the contest, with four wickets in hand. Kohli's inning was laced with 6 fours and 4 sixes, at a strike rate of 154.72, and was rightly rewarded with the Player-of-the-Match award.

Kohli's record at the T20 WC is impeccable, to say the least. As India take on the Netherlands in their second Super 12 clash, on Thursday (October 27) at the SCG, Sydney, the 33-year-old is on the cusp of entering an elite list. He is 73 runs away from entering the 1,000-run club in the T20 WC. So far, only Mahela Jayawardene is part of this list. Hence, Kohli will be the second to be a part of the elusive list.

Virat Kohli on cusp of becoming first Indian to join 1k-run club in T20 WC during India-Netherlands tie

Suryakumar Yadav has steadily become one of the lynchpins in the Indian batting line-up after a remarkable rise in international cricket. The stylish batter who has often been labelled as India's Mr. 360, had to wait for as many as 11 years to don India's jersey for the first time since making his first-class debut in 2010.

Suryakumar had to wait long for his dream India debut despite performing consistently in the domestic circuit and the IPL for a few years. However, his big break came in 2021 when the stylish right-hander managed to earn his maiden call-up after a brilliant IPL season with Mumbai Indians.

Suryakumar revealed his wife Devisha Shetty played a key role in changing his career graph as she helped him in ironing out his weaknesses and adapt a more productive diet and training regime which worked wonders for the star cricketer. She pushed him to work smarter not harder after all the work that he had already put in without getting closer to his India debut.

"After 2017-18 me and my wife, Devisha, sat down and decided, let's do some smart work from here on. You have worked hard, you have come this far, let's do something else and we will see what happens," Suryakumar told ESPNCricinfo's Cricket Monthly.

The India batter changed his diet, worked on his offside game, and trained differently before his body started feeling different in the year 2020. He had an impressive IPL season for Mumbai Indians in 2020 and continued his consistent run the next year to eventually her his maiden India call-up in the T20I series against England.

"I started dieting. Did a few things which really helped me in the 2018 domestic season and 2019. And going forward, in 2020 my body was completely different," said the Indian batter.

"It took time. It took around a year and a half for me to realise what my body is used to - what will help me, how can I move forward," he added.

Suryakumar revealed he was practicing all the time before but was not getting the desired results. However, changes in his diet, overall nutrition, and his training regime helped him in sparking a turnaround as he made it to the national team and there has been no looking back ever since.

"Eventually we both realised, yes, we are moving in the right direction. Then everything was on autopilot. I knew what I had to do, how I had to train, how much practice I had to do," he said.

"Before that I was just practising, practising, getting a little frustrated sometimes. And I felt there was no quality in that - there was a lot of quantity. But after 2018 there was a lot of quality in my training, diet, net sessions and everything, which helped me really well.

"And then it was a complete build-up, runs coming in all formats, in the IPL as well. So consistency came with that and finally I broke the door," Suryakumar added.

The 32-year-old is currently one of the mainstays in the Indian batting line-up in white-ball cricket and is part of the T20 World Cup 2022 squad. A lot will depend on how he performs with the bat throughout the tournament if India are to realise their dream of winning the trophy in Australia this year.

From hard work to smart work: How Suryakumar Yadav realised his dream of playing for India

India and Pakistan produced a humdinger of a clash when they locked horns in the Super 12 round of the Men's T20 World Cup (T20 WC) on Sunday (October 23), at the iconic MCG, Melbourne. Bowling first, India restriced Pakistan for 159-8 riding on three-wicket hauls from Arshdeep Singh and Hardik Pandya.

In reply, India were on the back foot and tottering at 31 for 4. Virat Kohli (82 not out) and Hardik (37-ball 40) revived the run-chase with an impressive 113-run fifth-wicket stand before the last over started with India needing 16 for a win. Hardik fell and Dinesh Karthik also returned back to the pavillion, with India requiring two from the final delivery.

R Ashwin came out in the middle. Holding his nerves, Ashwin confidently left a delivery from Md Nawaz, which was called a wide to level the scores. After that, he smacked a four on the last ball of the contest to take India to a famous four-wicket win at the jam-packed stadium.

Recalling that Nawaz delivery which was a wide, Ashwin hilariously stated on BCCI.TV during an interaction with Hrishikesh Kanitkar, "If that ball of Nawaz turned and hit my pad then only one thing I do was back to dressing room and picked my Twitter and write 'Thank you so much, It was wonderful my cricketing career and Journey and thank you all (laughs)'."

Bhuvneshwar Kumar created history on Thursday as he became the first Indian cricketer to bowl back-to-back maiden overs in a T20I innings. He was able to achieve the feat in the first two overs of his spell during the ICC T20 World Cup 2022 encounter against Netherlands in Sydney.

The others who have achieved the feat at the T20 World Cup are - Graeme Swann vs Afghanistan (2012), Nuwan Kulasekara vs Netherlands (2014) and Rangana Herath vs New Zealand (2014).

Bhuvneshwar looked in perfect control on Thursday as the Dutch batsmen struggled to score runs off his bowling and he even castled opener Vikramjit Singh in the third over of the match.

Thanks to his performance, Bhuvneshwar equalled compatriot Jasprit Bumrah’s tally of nine maiden overs overall – the highest in T20I cricket. With Bumrah missing the T20 World Cup due to a back stress fracture, Bhuvneshwar has the opportunity to claim the top spot for the time being.

When it comes to T20 cricket, it is West Indies spinner Sunil Narine who holds the record with 27 maiden overs. Bhuvneshwar is fourth in the list with 20 with Bangladesh skipper Shakib Al Hasan with 23 and former West Indies leg-spinner Samuel Badree (21) in the second and third spot.

Earlier, Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma and Suryakumar Yadav slammed half centuries to take India to a solid total of 179 for the loss of two wickets. The Indians batsmen dominated proceedings after losing KL Rahul early and it was once again a masterclass for the in-form Kohli.

IND vs NED: Bhuvneshwar Kumar becomes first Indian cricketer to achieve impressive feat

Team India faced the Netherlands in their second Super 12 clash at the Men's T20 World Cup (T20 WC) on Thursday (October 27). Playing at the Sydney Cricket Ground, SCG, Rohit Sharma-led India produced a clinical performance to go past the Dutch line-up by 56 runs.

Opting to bat first, India were off to a slow start and lost vice-captain KL Rahul (9). While he was trapped lbw, had he taken the decision upstairs, it would've allowed him to continue his inning. However, Rohit was joined by in-form batter Virat Kohli as the duo tried to accelerate after India only managed 32 for 1 in the first six overs.

Rohit took on the likes of Bas de Leede and Logan van Beek to up the ante and took the score to 67 for 1. From thereon, he attacked Tim Pringle and reached the 50-run mark, second by an Indian in T20 WC, and also achieved the massive feat of having the most sixes by an Indian in tournament history. Against the run of play, he was dismissed for 53.

Following his departure, Suryakumar Yadav and Kohli stitched an impressive and unbeaten 95-run third-wicket stand as India posted 179-2 in 20 overs. SKY scored the fourth-fastest fifty by an Indian in the T20 WC whereas Kohli continued his merry run, scoring an unbeaten 44-ball 62.

In reply, the Netherlands' line-up was never in the run-chase. Bhuvneshwar Kumar started with two successive maiden overs whereas the likes of Md Shami, Axar Patel, and R Ashwin dented the run-chase with regular strikes. Axar and Ashwin contained the run-flow whereas the inexperienced Dutch batters struggled to rotate and score freely.

India's fielding was upto the mark whereas the Rohit-Rahul Dravid-led team management will be satisfied with the bowling effort as well. It was a disciplined performance from the one-time winners, who now atop their group with four points from two games.

T20 WC: All-round India thrash Netherlands by 56 runs to make it two wins in a row

Rohit Sharma-led India are up against the Netherlands in their second Super 12 clash at the Men's T20 World Cup 2022 edition, on Thursday (October 27) at the SCG, Sydney. After winning the toss, Rohit & Co. opted to bowl first and rode on half-centuries from the skipper (53), Virat Kohli (62 not out) and Suryakumar Yadav (unbeaten 51) to post a challenging 179-2 in 20 overs.

During the start of the Indian innings, the one-time winners lost vice-captain KL Rahul for cheap but Rohit accelerated after a slow start to slam his 29th half-century in the format; first as captain in the T20 WC. Hitman's knock comprised 4 fours and 3 sixes. By virtue of his knock, he achieved a huge feat to surpass Yuvraj Singh (33) to now have most sixes by an Indian in the tournament history (34).

In addition, Rohit became the second Indian captain to score a fifty in the T20 WC. In the 2021 T20 WC, then skipper Kohli had hit a half-century (57) during India-Pakistan clash in Dubai. At the coin toss, Rohit said after opting to bat first, "Yeah, morale is really high. Winning a game like that (vs Pakistan) takes your confidence to the next level but at the same time we understand we need to stay calm, just the first game of the tournament and plenty of things to happen. We have to calm ourselves and look forward to this game. We want to keep improving no matter what the results are, it always keeps you in good stead when you are thinking like that. It is important for us to keep ticking those boxes."

After his unbeaten 51, SKY told the broadcasters, "I’ve enjoyed batting here, enjoyed that partnership. When I went inside, Virat bhai just said keep batting the way you have been batting, so I just expressed myself. Good to see everyone come here and support us, my wife is also around so that’s a great support as well. The wicket is a bit two-paced, it is a good score to defend. 'A new era of gender equality': BCCI to give equal match fees to women cricketers as male counterparts

India left for Australia early this month for the upcoming T20 World Cup. Rohit Sharma & Co. have had a stellar run in the shortest format in this year and, hence, are one of the title contenders for the marquee edition Down Under. In the last edition, held in 2021 in the UAE, India faltered under pressure and failed to get past the Super 12 round after back-to-back losses in their opening two games, versus Pakistan and New Zealand, respectively.

They have a strong squad -- compromising Rohit, vice-captain KL Rahul, Virat Kohli, in-form Suryakumar Yadav, Bhuvnneshwar Kumar, Hardik Pandya, etc. -- and will be desperate to click from the word go. So far, India have won the T20 WC title only once, during the 2007 edition under MS Dhoni, and since then, they managed to reach the top four only twice (with them ending as runners-up in 2014). Will India return with the elusive title? Only time will tell...

Team India at T20 World Cup 2022: Squad, schedule, timings - Everything you need to know

After beating Pakistan in their T20 World Cup (T20 WC)'s opening clash, India have now shifted their focus to their second encounter where they face the Netherlands, on Thursday (October 27) at the SCG, Sydney. Before their face-off versus the Dutch line-up, Team India players didn't have the best of experience after the end of their practice session in Sydney.

After India's optional practice session, on Tuesday (October 25), the dressing room menu was found to be cold and inadequate and the players reported the matter to the official at the iconic SCG. The menu included fruits, falafel and ‘make your own sandwich’, not pleasing the Indian team players. “The food was not up to the mark. We can’t have a sandwich after a practice session,” a member of the Indian squad said as per a report in the Indian Express.

After a practice session, players usually prefer having an adequate and hot meal and, hence, the menu didn't impress the Team India members. The optional session was attended by captain Rohit Sharma, vice-captain KL Rahul, Virat Kohli, Dinesh Karthik, Rishabh Pant, Mohammed Siraj, R Ashwin, Shardul Thakur and Deepak Hooda, along with the support staff. On the other hand, the team management rested the likes of Axar Patel, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Mohammed Shami, Hardik Pandya and Arshdeep Singh.

"BCCI has told ICC that food provided after practice is inadequate. BCCI has further told ICC - How can you give cold sandwiches after 3 hours of practice for lunch? Sandwiches are not even made, players have to make their own sandwiches. This is not acceptable to us. The problem was in Melbourne and now Sydney. ICC had promised to look into it but hot food is the basic. Why wasn’t it looked at earlier?" top sources conveyed Times Now.

After the Pakistan clash, India occupy the second spot in Pool B. The points table is currently led by Bangladesh, who defeated the Netherlands by nine runs, with India, South Africa and Zimbabwe following suit. Pakistan and Netherlands are at the bottom and yet to open their accounts.

India vs Netherlands weather prediction: Will rain play spoilsport in Rohit Sharma & Co's Super 12 clash?

India defeated Pakistan by four wickets in the last-ball thriller on Sunday in the ongoing T20 World Cup 2022 to get off to a winning start in the tournament. However, their top-order woes were left exposed once again during the game as openers KL Rahul and Rohit Sharma failed to fire.

The Men in Blue rode on Virat Kohli's unbeaten 82 and a crucial 40-run-knock from Hardik Pandya to chase down the tricky target of 160 runs after a poor start at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG). Former Pakistan pacer Shoaib Akhtar has said that the Indian openers looked scared against the Pakistan pacers in the powerplay.

Both Rahul and Rohit were dismissed for four runs each leaving India in a spot of bother early in the high-pressure chase. While Rahul played one onto his stumps against Naseem Shah after being beaten by pace, Rohit edged one from Haris Rauf to get caught at first slip.

The International Cricket Council (ICC) has said it is looking into the matter after the Indian players complained about being served 'cold food' following their practice session at the Sydney Cricket Ground (SCG) in Sydney in the ongoing T20 World Cup 2022 on Tuesday.

The players were expecting a full sumptuous lunch after their three-hour-long training session at the SCG but were dejected to find only fruit, falafel, and cold sandwiches on offer. While some of the players did much on some falafel and picked up fruits, others decided to leave and get a proper lunch back at the team hotel.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India were quick to spring into action after the issues were brought to their notice and they registered an unofficial complaint with the ICC. Reacting to their complaint, an ICC official confirmed that the governing body, which is in charge of the T20 World Cup is looking into the issues faced by the Indian team.

"Yes, the Indian team has told us about their issues with the food after practice. We are trying to figure it out and the issue will be sorted," an ICC source was quoted as saying by news agency PTI.

ICC official reacts as Indian players skip lunch after being served 'cold sandwiches' in Sydney

It has been over a month since Deepti Sharma ran Charlie Dean out, at the non-striker's end, as the batter was taking unfair advantage for backing up too far. Since then, Deepti's act has been talked about a lot and has led to divided opinions. While many have backed and lauded Deepti, and fairly blamed Charlie, the English and Aussie cricketers refrain from considering it as a legitimate form of dismissal -- although the International Cricket Council (ICC) and MCC have included it to the run-out law from unfair play -- all-rounder Hardik Pandya joined the bandwagon and shared a strong response in this regard.

Speaking on the latest episode of ICC Review podcast, the 28-year-old Hardik said, "Because you gave the example, we need to stop making a fuss about this. It's a rule, simple as that. To hell with the Spirit of the Game, if it's there, remove the rules, simple as that. The ones who have problems, good for them, that's fine."

The all-rounder further opined that he would be fine if a bowler runs him out at the non-striker's end. Hardik added, "Personally, I have no problem. If I am out, if I am walking out and someone runs me out, fair enough, it's my mistake, not the bowlers. It is using the rules to one's advantage. Simple as that, let’s not make a big deal, that's it."

Hardik was last seen in action during India's memorable four-wicket win over Pakistan in the Super 12 clash at the T20 World Cup (T20 WC) 2022 edition on Sunday (October 23). Hardik returned with 3 for 30, after Rohit Sharma & Co. opted to bowl first at the MCG, Melbourne, and stitched a match-winning 113-run fifth-wicket stand with Virat Kohli (82 not out off 53 balls) to score a 37-ball 40 and help India prevail on the final ball of the contest while chasing 160.

Hardik-starrer India will now face the Netherlands on October 27 (Thursday) at the SCG, Sydney.

'To hell with the Spirit of the Game': Hardik Pandya shares his take on run out at non-striker's end

Former India captain Sunil Gavaskar believes skipper Rohit Sharma's form is the only concern for the Indian team in the ongoing T20 World Cup 2022. India registered a thrilling four-wicket win against arch-rivals Pakistan in their opening game of the tournament on Sunday to get off to a flying start.

The Men in Blue rode on a stellar knock from Virat Kohli and all-round heroics from Hardik Pandya to clinch the last-ball thriller against Pakistan. However, their batting woes were left exposed once again as the top-order failed to deliver in yet another high-pressure game.

Both Rohit Sharma and KL Rahul got dismissed on 4 runs each highlighting India's concerns at the top. Gavaskar believes Rohit being out of touch now remains India's only concern going forward in the tournament as the Hitman has not managed to score runs at the consistency he is known for.

"The only concern really has been that Rohit Sharma of late has not quite scored with the same capability we know him to. I think if he gets going it really makes people’s life really easy for people to follow," Gavaskar was quoted as saying by India Today.

Rohit and Rahul once again fail to give India the start they needed in the tricky 160-run chase as a result of which the team found itself under massive pressure with 31/4 at one stage before Kohli and Pandya's rescue act. Gavaskar urged Rohit and Rahul to aim at giving a good platform at the top which can make life easy for the middle-order batters.

Legendary Pakistan pacer Shoaib Akhtar lauded Virat Kohli after his fabulous knock against the Men in Green in the T20 World Cup 2022 on Sunday. Kohli scored a match-winning unbeaten 82 as India clinched a thrilling four-wicket win against their arch-rivals to get off to a flying start in the tournament.

India were in a spot of bother at one stage in the tricky 160-run chase as they found themselves reeling at 31/4 inside just seven overs. However, Kohli then took charge and combined with Hardik Pandya to take the game down the wire before slaughtering the Pakistan bowlers in the death overs.

Kohli helped India chase down 48 runs off the last three overs to register one of their most memorable wins against Pakistan in recent times and truly announce his comeback after a prolonged lean patch earlier this year. Akhtar hailed Kohli as one of the greatest of all time and labeled his knock as the best of his career so far.

"According to me, he played the greatest innings of his life against Pakistan. He played like this because he had the self-belief that he will do it," Akhtar said in a video on his YouTube channel.

The former Pakistan pacer, who has been an avid supporter of the senior India batter, had backed him continuously during his rough patch. Akhtar said the game against Pakistan was the perfect one for Kohli to announce his comeback and he did that in stellar fashion with a memorable knock.

"He was down and out for 3 years, he didn’t score runs, he was stripped of his captaincy and a lot of people said a lot of things to him. People even dragged his family into it but he kept training and put in the graft and just a day before Diwali, he played a firecracker on an innings. He decided that this place and this stage is perfect for his comeback. The king is back and he is back with a bang and I am really happy for him. He is a great cricketer," said Akhtar.

The Pakistan great then went on to urge the senior India batter to consider retiring from the shortest format arguing that he can score many more centuries if he concentrates on ODIs. Akhtar said Kohli could have scored three centuries in ODIs with half of the effort that he put into his 82-run-knock against Pakistan on Sunday.

"I want him to retire from T20I because I don’t want that he puts his entire energy in T20I cricket. If he used all his might like he did today, he can score three centuries in ODIs," said Akhtar.

Kohli was struggling with his form and was also dealing with significant mental pressure due to his poor performance just a few months back. However, the Indian superstar put his head down and worked hard to script a fairytale comeback and redeem himself at the grandest stage of them all.

He will be looking to continue his purple patch with the willow when India take on Netherlands in their next Super 12 clash on Thursday.
