"I think in terms of our squad here, probably it didn't allow us the flexibility in some ways to be able to change the combinations a little bit," Dravid said in the post-match press conference.

In reply, West Indies completed the chase in 18 overs to win the contest and the series.

"As these games are going on, and scores are becoming bigger and bigger if you look at West Indies, they had Alzarri Joseph coming in at No. 11 and he can hit a mean ball. So you have sides that have that depth. Obviously, we have some challenges on that front and we need to work on that. It's certainly something that this series has shown us and we need to build on that depth,” Dravid further added.

The Indian team will now have the opportunity to bounce back from the embarrassing series defeat when they take on Ireland in a three-match T20I series. The Ireland tour will see the return of Jasprit Bumrah to the Indian side while a few players from the West Indies tour will also join the Indian squad. The Indian team for the Asia Cup 2023 will soon be announced as India now target continental glory before entering the ODI World Cup. They will also face Australia in a three-match ODI series before the showpiece event.

Having levelled the five T20Is after being 0-2 down, the Hardik Pandya-led Men in Blue were expected to continue with the winning momentum and clinch the series, however, Rovman Powell-led Windies were clinical in the final T20I to win by eight wickets.

This became India's first-ever five-match T20I series overall. Meanwhile, West Indies won their maiden bilateral series (minimum of three games) versus the opponent since 2006, when they defeated Rahul Dravid &amp; Co. 4-1 in the Caribbean island.

Thus, many fingers have been raised on Hardik's leadership whereas head coach Rahul Dravid is also being criticised left, right and centre.&nbsp;

Former Indian opener Aakash Chopra also joined in and analysed Hardik's captaincy after the WI T20Is. Chopra pointed out how Axar Patel was underutilised throughout the series (did not bat in third and fourth T20I and completed his full quota of overs in only two games) and feels India played with only ten players.

On his YouTube channel, Chopra said, "Axar Patel was bowling the first over in the last match and in this match, Axar Patel bowled one over in total. The way Axar Patel has been used, we really don't know. It almost seems like we played with 10 players."

He further asserted, “You are saying that you will get Kuldeep Yadav to bowl if Nicholas Pooran comes, or else you will get Axar to complete his overs. What will you do if Nicholas Pooran comes up the order? He came up the order when Arshdeep Singh dismissed Kyle Mayers once again. Axar Patel is not being used at all."

In reply, West Indies made a mockery of the run-chase, finishing proceedings in 17 overs with eight wickets in hand, thanks to Brandan Kings' 85 not out and Nicholas Pooran's entertaining 47.

Former Indian opener Wasim Jaffer has been left unimpressed with India's long tail and questioned their batting preparations for next year's T20 World Cup, in West Indies and USA.

Speaking on ESPNCricinfo, Jaffer pointed out, "Losing Yashasvi Jaiswal and Shubman Gill within that powerplay, that was a big setback. We all know that India only bats till No. 7. The last four don’t contribute much at all. They don’t have that boundary-hitting or six-hitting ability. When you lose two to three wickets, the guys coming in can’t play freely. It adds a lot of pressure."

Jaffer further asserted, "If we are five down, the tail starts coming. That’s exactly what has happened in the games that we have lost. That is a big concern for India. The batting hasn’t clicked. Suryakumar Yadav played well, but nobody else chipped in."

"The top seven has to bat the bulk of the overs. Sometimes, when you go with that mindset, it doesn’t help you. India need to address this issue. Within 10 months’ time, India will be playing the World Cup here. This can’t be the template. Our batting needs to come till at least No. 8, possibly No. 9 - somebody who can tonk the ball," he added.

After the series loss, head coach Rahul Dravid admitted to India's lack of batting depth.

"It's very wonderful, they got heart. That is something which is very important in international cricket. While Surya scored a blistering 83 off 44 with 10 fours and four sixes, Tilak played yet another important innings of 49 not out to see the side home.&nbsp;

Tilak, who made his debut during the first T20I of the series itself, broke Gautam Gambhir's record of most runs after three T20I innings for India. With the score of 39, 51 and 49 not out, Tilak has 139 runs to his name, second most after three T20I innings with Deepak Hooda at the top.

Surya also became the fastest Indian to reach milestone surpassing Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli. Overall, Surya is second behind West Indies' Evin Lewis who reached the feat in 42 innings.

Chasing 160 in the third T20I, India lost two quick wickets before Surya and Tilak joined forces for 86-run partnership. By the time Surya departed, India needed just 39 runs in about seven overs. Pandya (20 off 15 not out) and Varma then took India home without further damage.

Sanju Samson, don't waste your chance: Former Indian opener urges star batter to score big in WI T20Is

India's losing streak continued on Sunday, August 7 against West Indies as they lost the second T20I of the five-match series by two wickets in Guyana. The visitors are now two down in the series with three more matches left. India skipper Hardik Pandya lamented yet another poor outing by batsmen and acknowledged that it was not a 'pleasing performance.'

“If I am being honest that was a not a pleasing batting performance, we could have batted better. 160-plus or 170 would have been a good total,” said Pandya after the match.

Notably, India had lost two wickets in the powerplay itself and eventually managed just 152 runs in their 20 overs. Two-T20I-old Tilak Varma was the only shining spot in the Indian batting line-up, scoring 51 off 41 balls. Apart from him, opener Ishan Kishan and Pandya scored 27 and 24, respectively, as India tried to overcome another batting failure.

However, once Varma got out in the 16th over, India's long tail was unable to keep up the scoring rate. Asked about the same at the post-match presentation, Pandya said that "we have to trust top seven batters".

“With the current combination we have, we will have to trust our top 7 batters to come good and hope the bowlers win you games. We have to find ways to make sure we have the right balance but at the same time batters need to take more responsibility,” said Pandya.

The bowlers did bring India back in the game as they scalped two quick wickets at the start of the chase, but Nicholas Pooran's 40-ball 67 took the game away from them. Leg-spinner Yuzvendra Chahal's sensational over with three wickets, including a run-out, did give India an opening towards the end but the visitors couldn't capitalize on it.

The two teams will play the third and last T20I of the Caribbean leg on August 8 in Guyana before moving to Lauderhill, USA for the last two T20Is.

Kishan also commented on the T20 World Cup and thinks it is a bridge too far and is not thinking about it. "I’ve played a few tournaments here and I know how the wickets play here, not really thinking about the next T20 World Cup. Focusing on the upcoming tournaments, you know how one tournament can change your life. We’re just focusing on that now," said Kishan.

While chasing the target, the Caribbean bundled out for a paltry 151, handing India the series win.

The aggressive gameplay displayed by the left-right duo enabled India to reach 100 within 15 overs.

Both put on a 143-run stand inside 20 overs before Yannic Cariah ended Ishan’s innings at 77.

Soon, No. 3 batter Ruturaj Gaikwad followed suit as he got out cheaply for 8.

But the run rate kept ticking for India as Sanju Samson and well-settled Gill went on to score freely.

That strike came after Shardul Thakur's three-wicket burst which brought India back into the match following a 53-run opening stand between Kyle Mayers and Brandon King.

"Once I can contribute to team wins I am happy. Whether I get a 50, whether I get a hundred, whether I get a double-hundred, as long as we win I am happy," said a delighted Hope.

<h2>Virat, Rohit rested</h2>

After being put into bat first following the toss, stand-in skipper Hardik Pandya explained the reason for dropping both Virat and Rohit. The duo has been playing consistent cricket in recent times and needed rest to manage the workload. Both Virat and Rohit have been rested from the T20 series as well and will travel back to India after the conclusion of the ODI series.

“Rohit and Virat have been playing constant cricket, few questions need to be answered for us so they are resting in this game. They can be fresh for the third ODI,” Hardik said at the toss.

The Gujarat Titans (GT) skipper admitted that there are areas where the team can improve despite them being on the front foot in the first ODI. India won the contest by five wickets, however, considering the&nbsp;target, it was a poor run chase by the Men in Blue.

“I think when you get someone out for 115, it's a good effort from the bowlers. Our catching was impressive, but we can improve in certain areas. Instead of losing five wickets, we could have lost only two wickets and finished the last game,” added Hardik.

The Indian team also saw the return of Sanju Samson and Axar Patel in the team having remained out of contention in the opening ODI. Samson will have the opportunity to impress the selector as he faces a tough task to make the ODI World Cup squad while Axar will see competition from Kuldeep Yadav and Yuzvendra Chahal for a place in the mega event.

The India team will try to seal the series with a win on Saturday, while West Indies will look to return the favour&nbsp;after losing&nbsp;the first ODI.

"Honestly, this was our last chance to try some of our players. We have got four of our players who are injured and are in the NCA. With days to go for the Asia Cup and then the World Cup, we are kind of running out of time in a lot of ways. And we are hoping that some of them will be available for the Asia Cup and the World Cup but we can't take those chances. We have to try out other people and give them chances so that in the worst-case scenario they at least have game time behind them."

"It also gives us the opportunity to make some decisions on players. Honestly in a series like this with 2-3 matches to go before the Asia Cup, playing Kohli and Rohit would have not given us any answers. But with the injuries we have in the NCA and some uncertainty around them we just wanted to give others a chance," Dravid said.
