Former India cricketer Sanjay Manjrekar has shared his views on KL Rahul's captaincy and stated that he loses his impact as a batter when leading the team. Rahul is currently leading the Indian cricket in the absence of permanent skipper Rohit Sharma in the ongoing three-match ODI series against South Africa.

Manjrekar cited the example of Rahul's numbers from his captaincy stint with Punjab Kings in the Indian Premier League (IPL) where his strike rate went down significantly after becoming the captain of the team. Manjrekar's comments came after Rahul's 79-ball 55 in the second ODI against South Africa on Friday (January 21).

After opting to bat first India rode on Rahul's 55 and Rishabh Pant's quickfire 85 off 71 balls to post a fighting total of 287/5 on the board, batting first in the must-win game. Pant and Rahul added a 115-run stand for the second wicket where the left-hander was going all guns blazing but the Indian skipper adopted a cautious approach and looked a bit sluggish during his innings.

"When he's a captain [for Punjab Kings] he has a strike rate of 133 and when he's not the captain 146. So this is KL Rahul, when he becomes captain, the impact that he makes as a batter gets diminished and that's something that hurts the team in the end and we have seen it hurt Punjab Kings in the IPL,"&nbsp;Mankrekar said on ESPN Cricinfo.

Today, you could say with Rishabh Pant batting there and the kind of overall confidence that the Indian team currently has, he saw potential issues had he got out early, especially with Virat Kohli gone," he added.

Manjrekar wants Rahul to learn from Kohli and try to be like him as a captain. Kohli enjoyed the pressure of leadership and his performances only got better when he became the captain of the Indian team across formats. Manjrekar wants Rahul to replicate the same and win games for India with his batting.

"So I can understand the innings but going forward, I just want to see KL Rahul [be] the guy who makes an impact with the bat. Like Virat Kohli, for example, when he became the captain didn't lose Virat Kohli the batter who won him a lot of games. I want to see the same with KL Rahul," said Manjrekar.

India lost the first ODI against South Africa by 31 runs under Rahul's captaincy and are on the verge of facing back-to-back defeats as South Africa are well placed to win the second ODI and clinch the three-match series.

KL Rahul's impact as a batter diminishes when he captains, he should learn from Virat Kohli: Sanjay Manjrekar

Rishabh Pant slammed a brilliant knock of 85 runs in the second ODI against South Africa at the Boland Park in Paarl on Friday (January 21) to achieve an elusive milestone. Despite missing out on a well-deserved maiden ODI ton, the Indian wicket-keeper batter wowed fans with some fantastic skills and strokeplay during his entertaining knock.

After opting to bat first in the must-win second ODI, India got off to a good start with openers KL Rahul and Shikhar Dhawan adding 63 runs for the first wicket. The visitors then lost Dhawan (29) and Virat Kohli (0) in quick succession before Rahul and Pant combined to steady the ship.

While Pant played the aggressor and went after the South African bowlers, Rahul played the anchor's role to perfection. Pant slammed a cracking 85 off 71 balls laced with ten fours and two sixes as he achieved an elusive milestone. The left-hander added a 115-run stand for the third wicket with skipper Rahul, who notched up a fine 55 off 79 deliveries.

Rishabh Pant breaks Rahul Dravid's record to achieve elusive feat with cracking 85 in 2nd ODI vs South Africa

India and South Africa have locked horns with each other in the second and penultimate ODI at Boland Park, Paarl on Friday (January 21). After losing the series opener by 31 runs, KL Rahul-led India are in a must-win scenario to keep the series alive.

After winning the toss, Rahul &amp; Co. opted to bat first and were reduced from 63 for no loss to 64-2. Thus, Rahul and Rishabh Pant came together and stitched a wonderful 115-run third-wicket stand before both the set batters returned after scoring a fifty each. While Rahul went back for a 79-ball 55, Pant registered his highest ODI score (85) but missed out on his maiden century in the 50-over format.

During the match proceedings, former Indian pacer Zaheer Khan lauded young Pant and compared his approach towards the game with ex-opener Virender Sehwag. "When you talk about a player who has got the X-Factor, Rishabh Pant comes to mind. He's got versatility that puts him in a different category. If one manages to do things which other players are not able to pull off, expectations tend to rise as well as pressure," Zaheer told&nbsp;Cricbuzz.

"But Pant is a character and he's least bothered about the commentary or outside noise. Virender Sehwag also used to be like that in our times. He used to think about his own game instead of focusing on other things... and Pant also has got a similar approach. You can't judge him on the basis of his stats due to the amount of risk that he takes. He's an impact player."

Zaheer further opined that Pant's batting position should remain flexible. "I don't think his batting position has affected his performance in limited-overs. India instead expects flexibility from him. They have a player who can come in to bat according to the situation. You can't correlate his form and batting position... these are two completely different things. Pant should be utilized as an impact player rather than alloting a fixed batting spot to him," he added.

India and South Africa have locked horns with each other in the second and penultimate ODI at Boland Park, Paarl on Friday (January 21). After losing the series opener by 31 runs, KL Rahul-led Team India have to win the second match to keep the series alive in the rainbow nation.

Opting to bat first, Rahul-led side started well. After a fifty-run opening stand between stand-in captain Rahul and Shikhar Dhawan, India lost the plot with back-to-back wickets as former captain Virat Kohli returned back to the pavillion without opening his account. From 63 for no loss, India were 64-2 as Rahul was joined by Rishabh Pant.&nbsp;

In the 15th over of the Indian innings, Pant nudged a delivery from Keshav Maharaj towards the leg-side. While the left-hander looked for a run, he was caught ball watching as he saw Rahul from the non-striker's end reach near him. Hence, both the batters were at the same end, which led to a run-out opportunity.&nbsp;

Amid the communication mishap, bowler Maharaj missed the throw to inflict a run-out. What followed was that there was no one backing the bowler as the mid-wicket fielder was stationed near the boundary line. Hence, by the time the ball came back to Maharaj, Rahul stormed his way back to the non-striker's end to negate any damage for Team India.

After the riveting three Tests, India and South Africa will square off with each other in the three-match ODI series opener at Boland Park, Paarl on Wednesday (January 19). Team India will play their first-ever series in the 50-over format since July 2021 and following Rahul Dravid's appointment as the head coach.

In 2021, India played two bilateral ODI series, versus England and Sri Lanka respectively. India ended the year winning four games and losing two. Since then, a lot has changed in Indian cricket. Virat Kohli was sacked as the ODI captain, having resigned on his own as T20I and Test captain (recently on January 15). Rohit Sharma was named the limited-overs captain in early December 2021, before being ruled out of the upcoming ODIs due to hamstring injury.

Thus, the 29-year-old KL Rahul will take the charge of the side in the SA ODIs in Rohit's absence. Rahul has already led India in the ongoing tour, during the second and penultimate Test at The Wanderers, Johannesburg. It will be interesting to see how he guides the side with veterans such as Kohli, Shikhar Dhawan, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, R Ashwin, etc.

Since July 2021, Dravid has already worked with several captains -- in the form of Dhawan, Rohit, Ajinkya Rahane, Kohli and&nbsp;Rahul. Thus, the national side will be eager to gel well and start the series with a bang after losing the Tests 2-1. The young guns such as Venkatesh Iyer, Ruturaj Gaikwad, Ishan Kishan, Md Siraj, Rishabh Pant, etc. will be desperate to make the most of their chances.

On the other hand, Bavuma-led SA aren't pushovers by any means. The likes of Bavuma, Quinton de Kock, Lungi Ngidi, etc. will be bolstered by the presence of white-ball specialists David Miller, Andile Pheklukwayo, Tabraiz Shamsi.&nbsp;

Match prediction for India-South Africa encounter:&nbsp;There's not much separating both sides. Expect big runs with small boundaries -- on a pitch known to be slow and flat -- if the weather doesn't play a big role. SA's practice session was abandoned on Tuesday (January 18) due to rain interruption. Thus, the weather can make its presence felt.

Given how much India enjoy playing this format and are well in sync with it, expect the visitors to go 1-0 up. Nonetheless, it will be a close contest.

IND vs SA, 1st ODI prediction: Who will win series opener between KL Rahul-led India and South Africa?

Virat Kohli endured a disappointing outing with the bat in the ongoing second ODI between India and South Africa at the Boland Park in Paarl on Friday (January 21). The former India captain was dismissed by spinner Keshav Maharaj without opening his account after managing to face just five balls in his innings.

After opting to bat first in the must-win game, India got off to a good start as openers KL Rahul and Shikhar Dhawan added 63 runs for the first wicket before the left-hander was dismissed by Aiden Markram on 29 off 38 deliveries. Kohli came out to bat at number three and was expected to build a partnership with Rahul.

However, Kohli&nbsp;failed to get off to a good start and was sent packing by Maharaj. It was a tossed up delivery from Maharaj, which Kohli was expected to dispatch but the former India skipper played a very poor shot as the ball landed straight into the hands of Temba Bavuma in the cover region. It was a soft dismissal as Kohli recorded his 14th duck in ODIs.

With his 14th duck, Kohli went past his India teammate Rohit Sharma and current India head coach Rahul Dravid in the list of most ducks for India while batting at no. 1 to 7 positions. Kohli joined the likes of Virender Sehwag and Suresh Raina in an unwanted list of Indian batters with 14 ducks in ODIs. He is now joint-second on the mist of Indian batters with most ducks in ODIs while batting at no.1 to 7.

Kohli had been dismissed on a duck by a pacer on all 13 occasions in the past, however, on Friday, Maharaj became the first-ever spinner to hand former India captain a duck in ODIs. England's Adil Rashid is the only spinner to have dismissed Kohli on a duck in T20Is while Moeen Ali and Ajaz Patel have dismissed him on a duck in Tests.

<h3>A long drought without a hundred for Virat Kohli</h3>

Kohli's century drought continues to extend in international cricket as the batting maestro struggles to find consistency with the willow. He has now gone 17 innings without a century in ODIs - his longest streak without scoring a ton in the fifty-over format.

After Kohli's dismissal, skipper Rahul combined with Rishabh Pant to steady the ship for India as both batters notched up half-centuries apiece. While Pant slammed a quickfire 85 off 71 balls, Rahul notched up 55 off 79 deliveries to add 115 runs for the third wicket.

Virat Kohli creates unwanted record after 5-ball duck in 2nd ODI against South Africa

KL Rahul-led Team India lost the first ODI, of the three-match series, versus Temba Bavuma's South Africa at Boland Park, Paarl on Wednesday (January 19). Opting to bat first, Proteas were reduced to 68 for 3 before Bavuma's 110 and Rassie van der Dussen's 129 not out propelled the home side to 296-4 in 50 overs. In reply, India managed 265-8 courtesy fifties from Shikhar Dhawan, Virat Kohli and Shardul Thakur.

Ahead of the second and penultimate ODI between both sides, on Friday (January 21), former Pakistan spinner Danish Kaneria has made a glaring remark. Kaneria feels Indian team is divided in two groups, claiming that stand-in captain Rahul and Kohli are not on the same page. Earlier, reports were doing the rounds that there was a rift Kohli and limited-overs skipper Rohit Sharma. However, Kohli had tarnished all such reports before the SA tour.

Kaneria told in a video on his Youtube channel, "We saw that the Indian dressing room was divided into two groups. KL Rahul and Virat Kohli were sitting apart. Also, Kohli wasn’t in the same mood as he used to be when he was the captain. But he’s a team man and will come back stronger."

Kaneria's claims make heads turn given Rahul has lavished praise on Kohli ahead of the ODIs. Talking about the former captain Kohli, the 33-year-old took the field for the first time after giving up captaincy altogether -- quitting as T20I and Test captain whereas he was&nbsp;sacked as ODI skipper.&nbsp;

Kaneria feels India will be eager to sign off from South Africa with an ODI series win, losing the Tests 2-1. However, the tainted spinner opines that India need to stand tall after lacking intensity in the series opener. "After losing the Test series, India would be eager to redeem themselves and clinch the ODI rubber. But Rahul hasn’t shown that spark until now. He had led in the Test series but wasn’t able to lift the team to break the South African partnership. At one stage, it didn’t look like the Proteas would put up 296 on the scoreboard. Lack of intensity from the Indian team helped the opposition in scoring such a total. There were also fielding lapses from the visitors," said the former Pakistan spinner.

The second and penultimate ODI is being held at the same venue on Friday.

India and South Africa will square off with each other in the second and penultimate ODI on Friday (January 21). After losing the three-match ODI series opener convincingly, KL Rahul-led India will feel the pressure as they have only a day to regroup and keep the series alive.&nbsp;

Talking about the first ODI, Temba Bavuma-led Proteas won the toss and opted to bat first. Despite the hosts being reduced to 68-3, Bavuma's 110 and Rassie van der Dussen's 129 not out propelled SA to a daunting 296-4 in 50 overs. Bavuma-Rassie's 204-run fourth-wicket stand took the game away from the visitors despite being on the back foot at the start.

In the run-chase, Rahul &amp; Co. rode on an impressive 98-run second-wicket stand between Virat Kohli (51) and Shikhar Dhawan (79). However, the duo's dismissals brought the home side back into the contest as the middle and lower order failed to put up a fight from thereon. Shardul Thakur's 50 not out ensured India played their full quota of overs, to end at 265-8.

For the second and penultimate ODI, India will ring in a few&nbsp;changes in the line-up. Suryakumar Yadav or Ruturaj Gaikwad might get a look-in whereas Deepak Chahar can be considered to bolster the pace department.&nbsp;

In reply, India managed only 265-8 in their full quota of overs to go 1-0 down in the series. There were half-centuries from Shikhar Dhawan (79), former captain Kohli (51) and all-rounder Shardul Thakur (50 not out) but no daddy hundred from the top order and unimpressive returns from the middle and lower order resulted in India's convincing loss.

Reviewing India's performance in the ODI series opener, former Pakistan captain Salman Butt feels the energy that Kohli brought on the field as captain was entirely missing under KL Rahul. For the unversed, Rahul is captaining the side in the absence of limited-overs skipper Rohit Sharma (out due to hamstring injury).

"The energy that Virat brought to the ground as captain was missing. Maybe the team doesn’t have that vibe with KL. The grip and energy of a team that is attached with its captain as well as that unity was missing. KL didn’t have energy,” Butt said in a video on his YouTube channel.

“It happens with some people. They have a different vibe when given responsibility and another when they do not have it. He didn’t seem like an out-of-the-box thinker. As a captain, you keep on trying and keep the opposition guessing. These things were not evident in his leadership,” the tainted batter explained.

Ahead of the second and penultimate ODI, on Friday (January 21) at the same venue, Butt suggested how India can tweak their team combination a bit. "KL Rahul can keep wickets and India can bring in an extra batter in Gaikwad or Ishan. This will improve the middle order. India should also bring in a genuine pacer in place of Bhuvneshwar Kumar. Rishabh Pant is the fifth batter. He is very expressive and talented but you cannot consistently rely on him. He needs to get fit. Lost his balance today. He needs to bring himself back in shape physically. He needs to make some sacrifices in this diet for the team,” Butt added.

'Energy that Kohli brought as captain was missing, team doesn't....' - Salman Butt on India's 1st ODI loss

India and South Africa played out the first ODI, at Boland Park, Paarl, on Wednesday (January 19) after the three-match Test series ended in the African nation. KL Rahul-led India lost the series opener convincingly, by 31 runs, as Temba Bavuma's Proteas have gone 1-0 up in the series.

While winning the toss, SA opted to bat first, they weren't off to a great start and were reduced to 68 for 3. Bavuma and Rassie van der Dussen's match-winning 204-run fourth-wicket stand propelled the hosts to 296-4 as Rahul &amp; Co. were restricted foe 265-8 in response.&nbsp;

During centurions Bavuma (110) and Rassie's (129 not out) partnership, the former wasn't pleased with former Indian captain Virat Kohli's efforts on the field as the duo had a fiery exchange. In the 36th over, bowled by Yuzvendra Chahal, Bavuma played a shot towards short covers. Kohli was stationed at that position, who collected the ball and unleashed a powerful throw at the keeper's end. While there was hardly any chance of a run-out, Bavuma felt the throw could've hit him hard. Hence, he made his displeasure known and uttered some words towards Kohli.

To this, the 33-year-old Kohli also didn't remain mum and gave it back to Bavuma. Nonetheless, it didn't escalate any further. Here's the video of the entire episode:

At the post-match press conference, the South African captain Bavuma labelled his side's performance as a 'perfect game'.

"We played close to a perfect game, that's quite hard in 50-over cricket. We can take a lot of confidence. I struggled throughout the innings, Rassie seemed like batting on another wicket. That partnership was the decider. I tried to partner him as much as I could. Another good debut for him (Jansen), we feel he can take wickets with the new ball. He's growing from strength to strength and it's nice to see,"&nbsp;he opined.

India vs SA: Virat Kohli surpasses Sachin Tendulkar, Ricky Ponting to achieve elite feat during 1st ODI

With Rohit Sharma being ruled out of the ongoing three ODIs between India and South Africa, KL Rahul is leading the Men in Blue in the African nation. On Wednesday (January 19), Rahul walked out for the coin toss for the first time ever as India's captain in the 50-over format.

For the unversed, Rahul has already captained India once. During the ongoing SA tour, Rahul had led the Indian team in the second and penultimate Test -- captaining India for the first time in a full match -- which the visitors lost by 7 wickets. On his ODI captaincy debut, the 29-year-old achieved a unique record. Rahul became only the second Indian to captain the side before making 50 appearances in the ODI format.

Thus, Rahul joined former India batter Mohinder Amarnath in the unique list, who led India on his 35th appearance in ODIs in 1984. At the coin toss, Rahul-led India were asked to bowl first as SA captain Temba Bavuma (110) and Rassie van der Dussen's 129 not out propelled the Proteas to 296-4 in 50 overs.&nbsp;

In reply, India lost stand-in captain Rahul (12) early in the run-chase at Boland Park, Paarl.

After losing the three-match Test series, in the rainbow nation, India will be eager to stage a recovery and win the ODI leg. In early 2018, Virat Kohli-led India had won their first-ever bilateral series in the African nation when they beat SA 5-1 in a six-match ODI series.

With Rohit Sharma being ruled out of the ongoing three ODIs between India and South Africa, KL Rahul is leading the Men in Blue in the African nation. On Wednesday (January 19), Rahul walked out for the coin toss for the first time ever as India's captain in the 50-over format.

IndvSA: KL Rahul becomes second Indian to achieve unique captaincy feat during ODI series opener

Former India cricketer and cricket expert Sanjay Manjrekar believes Venkatesh Iyer cannot be considered an all-rounder yet for the Indian team. The Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) star has been included in the ODI squad for the upcoming series against South Africa which gets underway from Wednesday (January 19).

All-rounder Iyer rose to fame during the second phase of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2021 last year with his batting exploits. He scored 370 runs and picked up three wickets in ten matches and played an instrumental role in helping KKR reach the final of the tournament. Iyer made his T20I debut for India last year and is now in line to make his ODI debut.

Manjrekar believes India should go with five specialist bowlers in the first ODI against South Africa in Paarl on Thursday even if they include Iyer in the playing XI. The former India cricketer said India should pick Jayant Yadav, Yuzvendra Chahal as the two spinners while Jasprit Bumrah, Shardul Thakur and Deepak Chahar can form the pace attack.

"I believe India should go with five bowlers. Venkatesh Iyer could be the sixth bowling option. Yuzvendra Chahal and Jayant Yadav will be spin-bowling options with pacers Jasprit Bumrah, Shardul Thakur and Deepak Chahar as the other specialist bowlers," Manjrekar said on ESPNCriicnfo.

Iyer, who bowls handy leg-spin, has bowled just three overs for India so far in T20Is and can be utilised as the sith bowler as per Manjrekar, who has doubts over his all-round credentials as of now. While he is not sure about his bowling, Manjrekar said there is something special about Iyer as a batter.

"I'm not sure Venkatesh Iyer is an all-rounder yet. But he is maybe someone who can chip in with 4-5 overs. But I think there's something special about his batting," he said.

With captain Rohit Sharma set to miss the series, another youngster Ruturaj Gaikwad might make his ODI debut for India on Wednesday and open the batting with stand-in skipper KL Rahul. Iyer, who has been included in the squad in the place of Hardik Pandya, also looks set for his debut.

Cricket South Africa (CSA) on Tuesday confirmed that seam bowler Kagiso Rabada has been released from the team for the upcoming series against India.

The decision has been taken due to high workloads over a sustained period of time and the need for him to recover prior to the outbound Test series against New Zealand next month.

"No replacement will be brought in for him as there is an extended squad in place in the Bio-Secure Environment (BSE), but George Linde has been retained from the Test team as an extra spin-bowling option for the series," stated an official Cricket South Africa (CSA) release.

Earlier on Tuesday, South Africa limited-overs skipper Temba Bavuma said that his side would look to take the momentum from the Test series onto the upcoming ODI series against India.

India and South Africa will lock horns in a three-match ODI series, with the first match set to be played on Wednesday in Paarl. Earlier, the Proteas had defeated India 2-1 in the Test series.

"Yeah, momentum is a real thing, you would have seen after the first Test, how we managed to get some momentum in the Johannesburg Test and how we carried through. Momentum is a real thing, obviously, it is a different format and there is a different kind of pressure. Confidence is well within the team and we will be leading onto that to inspire the new guys," said Bavuma during a virtual press conference.

"I would like to have as many options as possible considering the balance of the team. I am not aware of any physical or mental issues with Quinton de Kock. He had his commitments with his family, he is here with the team now and he is training with the team. As far as I know, Quinton is fit and fine," he added.

Talking about Quinton de Kock, Bavuma said: "It is good to see him again. We obviously missed him in the Test team but he has made his decision to retire from the longest format. We respect his decision, having him back has been good. Quinton will have a point to prove and I am sure he is also as excited as we are to see him in the team."

South Africa release pacer Kagiso Rabada from ODI squad ahead of India series

After the end of the riveting Test series, India and South Africa will face each other in a three-match ODI series in the African nation, starting on January 19 at Boland Park, Paarl. The series will see India return to the 50-over format after a long time. The last ODI series for the Men in Blue was in Sri Lanka, in July 2021, where a second-stringed Shikhar Dhawan-led side beat the Islanders.&nbsp;

The last time both sides faced each other in ODIs in the rainbow nation led to the visitors winning 5-1. Since then, India and South Africa haven't faced each other in the shorter&nbsp;format. During SA's tour of India in late 2019, the African nation had played three T20Is and equal number of Tests. Their only face-off in the 50-over format was during the 2019 ODI World Cup.

The ODI series will present a huge opportunity for KL Rahul to bolster his chances of taking over as the Test captain, following Kohli's resignation. Rahul is leading the national side in the absence of limited-overs skipper Rohit Sharma, ruled out due to injury. He will have the assistance of Kohli, Dhawan, R Ashwin, Jasprit Bumrah, etc.

On the other hand, the Temba Bavuma-led Proteas will be bolstered by the presence of white-ball specialists, such as David Miller, Wayne Parnell, Andile Phehlukwayo, Tabraiz Shamsi. They will like to carry on in a similar stead after having won the three Tests, 2-1, despite a 1-0 lead.

INDvsSA: When and where to watch India vs South Africa 1st ODI match - IST time and streaming details

Virat Kohli shocked the entire cricketing world after dropping the captaincy bomb on social media last week. He confirmed that he will no more be leading India in Tests and will now continue playing as only a batter in all three formats of the game for the Men in Blue. Kohli will be looking to make the most of the upcoming ODI series against South Africa, which will be his first international assignment after giving up captaincy across all formats.

All eyes will be on Kohli the batter when India will lock horns with the Proteas in the series-opener of the three-match ODI series at the Boland Park in Paarl on Thursday (January 19). The batting maestro will be looking to achieve a few milestones in the upcoming ODI series against the Proteas in their own backyard and is on the verge of surpassing Sourav Ganguly and Rahul Dravid in an elite list.

Kohli currently has 1287 runs in ODIs against South Africa and will be just a few runs away from surpassing both Dravid and Ganguly in the elite list of Indian batters with the most runs against the Proteas in ODIs when he walks out to bat in the 1st ODI in Paarl on Wednesday.

BCCI president Sourav Ganguly (1313 runs) and current India head coach Rahul Dravid (1309 runs) are currently placed second and third&nbsp;respectively in the elite list of highest run-getters for India in ODIs against South Africa. Kohli needs just 27 runs to surpass the two greats and go second only behind Sachin Tendulkar.

Tendulkar is leading the elite list with 2001 runs in 57 ODIs against South Africa. Sachin is also the leading run-getter against South Africa overall and is followed by former Australia captain Ricky Ponting (1879 runs) at the second spot. Kohli is 8th on the overall list.

<h3>Virat Kohli has a sublime record against South Africa:</h3>

Kohli has an exceptional record against South Africa in ODIs with his 1287 runs in just 27 matches at a stunning average of 64.35 including four centuries and six fifties. He also has a brilliant strike rate of 86.90 against the Proteas in ODIs so far in his career.

With the burden of captaincy off his shoulders now, Kohli will be hopeful of making an impact as a batter and returning to his old form. The former India skipper will be also hoping to bring an end to his long-standing century drought during the ODI series against South Africa.

Four-time champions India dished out a clinical show to start their U-19 World Cup campaign on a winning note, thrashing South Africa by 45 runs here.

Put in to bat at the Providence stadium on Saturday, India rode on skipper Yash Dhull's responsible 82 to post a fighting 232 allout and then bundled out the opposition for 187, with left-arm spinner Vicky Ostwal (5/28) and pacer Raj Bawa (4/47) doing bulk of the damage.

Chasing 233, South Africa colts lost opener Ethan John Cunningham (0) in the first over as he was trapped in front by pacer Rajvardhan Hangargekar (1/38).

But Valintine Kitime (25) and Dewald Brevis (65), who idolizes AB de Villiers, then rallied the innings with a 58-run stand.
The duo played patiently and hit the loose balls away as South Africa cantered to 38 for 1 after 10 overs.
Kitime then took on left-arm medium pacer Ravi Kumar (0/30) in the 10th over, hitting him for a boundary and a six as South Africa amassed 10 runs off it.

Brevis and Kitime then hammered Bawa, amassing 17 runs of the 11th over. But Ostwal broke the stand after removing Kitime, who edged to stumper Dinesh Bana in the 12th over.

It soon became 83 for 3 as Ostwal struck again, this time dismissing GJ Maree (8), who was caught by Bana in the 21st over.
Thereafter, India did not allow any other South African batter to settle down. Bawa sent back a well-set Brevis, who was caught by rival skipper Dhull in the 36th over and that triggered a collapse for the rainbow nation.

Skipper George Van Heerden (36) tried to take the game deep but he was devoid of partners as Bawa and Ostwal wrecked havoc on the middle and lower order. The South African innings eventually folded in 45.4 overs.

Earlier, Dhull helped India recover from a poor start and his knock laid the cornerstone of India's fighting total.
The start of play was delayed by around 40 minutes due to rain and amid the prevailing conditions, South Africa decided to put India in to bat.

Left-arm pacer Aphiwe Mnyanda rocked the Indian top-order by trapping in-form opener Harnoor Singh (1) and his partner Angriksh Raghuvanshi (5) in front of the stumps.

Left-handed Harnoor, who was India's leading run getter in the Asia Cup and scored a century in the warm-up game against Australia here, fell to a ball that nipped back in. Raghuvanshi played around Mnyanda's inswinger and was plumb in front, leaving India for 11 for two.

With India in trouble, skipper Dhull and Shaik Rasheed (31) got together to resurrect the innings. They shared a 71-run stand before Rasheed missed a sweep shot off left-arm spinner Liam Alder to be adjudged LBW.

Rasheed, who was dropped on 17 at second slip off Andile Simelane, played some impressive strokes in his 54-ball knock, including an aerial pull and an on drive off pacer Matthew Boast to break the shackles.

Delhi batter Dhull then shared a 44-run stand with Nishant Sindhu (25) to take the innings forward. The skipper ended up with 11 fours and it took a brilliant direct hit from Simelane to dismiss him.

Kaushal Tamble added 35 valuable runs towards the end of the innings to take the team past 200.
Boast was quick to clean up the lower-order, removing Tambe and Rajvardhan Hangargekar in successive deliveries as India were all out in 46.5 overs.

The Dhull-led side, who have also won the Asia Cup, will now take on Ireland on Wednesday.

India beat South Africa by 45 runs to get off to a winning start in U-19 World Cup 2022

Indian Test captain Virat Kohli and a couple of other Indian players didn't shy away from expressing their frustration after a controversial DRS call went South Africa's way on Day 3 of the recently-concluded third Test between the two sides at the Newlands in Cape Town. South Africa captain Dean Elgar survived a close lbw call after opting for the DRS leaving Indian players miffed.

R Ashwin had trapped Elgar plumb in front of the wicket and the ball had hit the batter below the knee. He was adjudged out by the on-field umpire before reviewig the decision. The hawk-eye predicted the ball to be going over the stumps despite the replays suggesting that it had hit Elgar below the knee.

Indian players were left in shock after what they saw on the screen and went on to vent out their anger on the stump-mic. Indian skipper Kohli walked towards the stump mic and took a dig at the host broadcaster SuperSport alleging that they were controlling the hawk eye.

"Focus on your team as well when they shine the ball eh, not just the opposition. Trying to catch people all the time," Kohli was heard saying on the stump-mic. KL Rahul and R Ashwin also joined the chatter and took digs at SuperSport. "You should find better ways to win, SuperSport," Ashwin was heard saying while Rahul said - "It’s the whole country against 11 guys."

While Kohli and the other Indian players have been criticised a lot by several former cricketers and experts for their behaviour, former Australian cricketers Adam Gilchrist and Shane Warne also shared their views on the matter. Both Gilchrist and Warne observed that the frustration might have been brewing in the Indian camp as it looked like this was not the first instance when such a decision went against them.

"That accusation there I am interested in Warnie, this seems a bit premeditated, and this has been building or brewing…. and it has got to a breaking point. That accusation about filming teams shining the ball I am assuming it goes all the way back to that very ground when the Australians were caught out on camera," said Gilchrist while speaking on Fox Cricket.

Indian captain Kohli was asked about the DRS controversy involving Elgar during the post-match press conference after the visitors' defeat in the third Test in Cape Town. However, he refused to make any comments to refrain from triggering a controversy.

'Wonder if that happened 3-4 times': Warne, Gilchrist react to Virat Kohli's stump-mic outburst in 3rd Test

Former India captain Sunil Gavaskar has slammed Team India for their 'baffling' tactics in the recently-concluded series-deciding third Test against South Africa at the Newlands Stadium in Cape Town. India lost the game by seven wickets as South Africa went on to clinch the three-match Test series 2-1.

Gavaskar said he was left surprised by the Indian team's tactics post lunch on Day 4 of the third and final Test between the two sides. South Africa were cruising towards victory post lunch but India refrained from using the likes of Jasprit Bumrah and Shardul Thakur a lot which baffled Gavaskar, who said the visitors looked like they had given up on victory even without a fight.

Gavaskar, who had backed India to script history by winning their maiden Test series in South Africa this time around, said the dream of the maiden Test triumph turned into a nightmare as India lost the series 2-1.

"India's cricket after lunch has just baffled me. One would've thought that you would make one last-ditch effort, bring Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Shami on to bowl. Because after an interval, batsmen have to reset. India's dream of winning a series for the first time in South Africa has turned into a nightmare," Gavaskar said on-air while commentating during the third Test.

"What can one say? Both of these victories are comprehensive for South Africa, again winning by seven wickets -- seven wickets in Johannesburg and seven wickets here," he added.

India had made a wonderful start to the three-match Test series with a comprehensive 113-run victory in the series-opener in Centurion. Captain Virat Kohli then had to miss the second Test due to a back issue as South Africa bounced back to draw the series level at 1-1. India stood just one win away from creating history heading into the decider.

However, the Proteas produced a good overall show with the bat and the ball to deny the visitors a win to claim the series 2-1. Gavaskar said he believed India will follow a similar template in the next two games after winning the first Test by dominating the proceedings, however, that was not meant to be.&nbsp;

"Hasn't even gone close, India had a big victory in the first Test and I really thought that is going to be the template for the next two Test matches as well. Did not happen," said Gavaskar.

"Margin of victories that is something terrific for South Africa. But hard to understand as far as India are concerned. The way they dominated that first Test, really thought they would be able to win the series. I was thinking in terms of a 3-0 series, because of the fragility of the South African batting. The fact that Nortje wasn't playing -- that was a huge plus again for India because you had then two inexperienced bowlers," he explained.

'Dream turned into a nightmare': Sunil Gavaskar baffled by India's tactics in third Test against South Africa

Former India cricketer Ajit Agarkar believes the Indian team management needs to take a firm call regarding the future of senior batsmen Cheteshwar Pujara and Ajinkya Rahane. Both Rahane and Pujara have struggled with their respective forms in Tests for India in the last few years and have failed to score runs consistently.

The duo's lean patch continued in the recently-concluded three-match Test series against South Africa where they both failed to get going once again. While Rahane managed to score 136 runs in three matches against the Proteas, Pujara notched up only 124 runs in as many games in what was an abysmal display from the senior duo.

There have been calls over the exclusion of both Pujara and Rahane from India's Test squad with a number of youngsters waiting in the wings. The likes of Shreyas Iyer, Hanuma Vihari and Shubman Gill can all be slotted in the middle-order while Ruturaj Gaikwad and KS Bharat among others remain great future prospects for the country in the longest format.

Former India cricketer Agarkar said there are tough decisions to be made on Pujara and Rahane's future but India have talented players waiting in the wings to take their spots in the team.&nbsp;

"There is no doubt that there is scrutiny on Pujara and Ajinkya Rahane and there has to be a discussion about that because you have players who can take their places. Certainly, there are tough decisions to be made, not only about Pujara or only about Rahane, but regarding both of them," Agarkar said during a discussion on Star Sports.

"You have two players - Shreyas Iyer played a good Test in Kanpur and I don't think Vihari has done anything wrong whenever he has played Test cricket. You have Shubman Gill as well, so you have options," he added.

<h2>You have to decide what is best for the Indian team: Agarkar</h2>

Both Rahane and Pujara have been underperforming with the bat for quite a while now in Tests. However, they have been given a long rope by the selectors and the team management considering their experience and their contributions in the past.

However, Agarkar believes Pujara and Rahane's future should be decided for the larger good of the team as the duo look under pressure each time they walk out to bat in the middle.&nbsp;

"It is not that you are doing this just because you have lost. We are seeing with both these players for quite some time that every time they go out to bat, we say they are under pressure, or it might be their most important innings, or their last innings in Test cricket and the way they are batting," said Agarkar.

Ajit Agarkar on Rahane and Pujara's future in Test cricket: 'You have players who can take their places'

Indian captain Virat Kohli and other players have been subjected to immense criticism following their outburst at the stump-mic during Day 3 of the recently-concluded series-deciding third Test against South Africa in Cape Town. Indian players were seen openly expressing their frustration and accusing the official host broadcaster of controlling the hawk-eye projection after a DRS call went against them.

Dean Elgar was trapped lbw by R Ashwin during Soth Africa's second innings on Day 3 and was adjudged out by the on-field umpire. He later went for a review and managed to survive as the hawk-eye projected the ball to be going over the stumps despite the replays suggesting that the batter had been hit below his knee by the ball.

A controversy erupted soon as Indian skipper Kohli walked towards the stump-mic to aim a jibe at SuperSport - the host broadcaster. R Ashwin and KL Rahul also joined in and aimed digs at the broadcaster, accusing them of controlling the DRS. The Indian team were warned about their conduct during the day's play but were not charged by the ICC.

As per a report in ESPNCricinfo, the ICC match officials had a word with the Indian team management post the conclusion of the Test match and warned them about their on-field conduct. There was no charge levelled against India for a code of conduct breach.

Trying to catch people all the time," Kohli was heard saying on the stump-mic after Elgar managed to survive the lbw decision.&nbsp;"You should find better ways to win, SuperSport," said Ashwin as he also vented out on the host broadcaster.

Kohli was asked to share his views on the controversial episode during the post-match presser on Friday after India's seven-wicket loss in the third Test. The Indian skipper chose to remain silent on the issue and said he didn't want to trigger any controversy.

"That one moment seems very nice and very exciting to make a controversy out of, which honestly I'm not interested in making a controversy of it at all. It was just a moment that passed and we moved on from it, and just kept focusing on the game and trying to pick up wickets," Kohi said in the post-match presser.

No charges but Virat Kohli & Co. warned by ICC officials after stump-mic outburst against South Africa

India lost the series-deciding third and final Test against South Africa by seven wickets in Cape Town on Friday (January 14) as the visitors lost the three-match series 2-1. Virat Kohli &amp; Co. had come close to pulling off a historic maiden Test series win on South African soil when they won the first Test in Centurion comfortably by 113 runs.

However, South Africa bounced back strongly and went on to script a remarkable turnaround as they won the next two games in a row to clinch the series. India were thus denied a chance to win their maiden Test series in the Rainbow nation despite being in a closing distance of glory.

Post India's 2-1 defeat in the recently-concluded Test series, former England captain Michael Vaughan resumed his off the field rivalry with former India batsman Wasim Jaffer. The two former cricketers never shy away from poking fun at each other at the expense of their respective national side's losses.

Vaughan tried to troll Jaffer by 'checking on him' after India's defeat, however, the former India batter, who is famous for his witty tweets, had a brilliant response. “Evening @WasimJaffer14 !! Just checking you are ok,” Vaughan tweeted for Jaffer.

“Haha all good Michael, don't forget we are still leading you 2-1," Jaffer responded as he reminded the former England captain of India's 2-1 lead in the five-match series against England.

'Don't forget..': Wasim Jaffer responds as Michael Vaughan 'checks on him' after India's 2-1 defeat vs SA

India and South Africa played out an intense and riveting three-match Test series, in the rainbow nation, which ended on Friday (January 14) with Dean Elgar-led hosts clinching the series over Virat Kohli's India by 2-1. Day 4 of the third and final Test commenced, on Friday, with Proteas needing 111 more runs to win -- in pursuit of 212 -- whereas India needed 8 more wickets.

Keegan Petersen's 82 and Rassie van der Dussen-Temba Bavuma's unbeaten knocks propelled the South African side to a seven-wicket win at Newlands, Cape Town as the hosts won the series 2-1. Day 3 of the final Test saw a huge controversy when the Indian players were left agitated over Elgar's DRS decision.

During SA's run-chase towards Day 3's end overs, Elgar survived a very close lbw call off R Ashwin's bowling. While he was given out initially by Marais Erasmus, the on-field umpire, the SA captain took the decision upstairs. The replays suggested that the red cherry had hit the batter below the knee whereas&nbsp;the hawk-eye showed that the ball was going over the stumps. Hence, Elgar was given not out; with Kohli, KL Rahul and R Ashwin not mincing their words and targetting the host broadcaster SuperSport on the stump-mic.&nbsp;

Captain Kohli said on the stump-mic, "Focus on your team as well and not just the opposition, trying to catch people all the time."

India vs SA: Virat Kohli opens up on Dean Elgar DRS controversy during Day 3 of Cape Town Test

South African broadcaster SuperSport has responded to the allegations of foul-play made by the Indian players during Day 3 of the recently-concluded third Test between the two sides at the Newlands Stadium in Cape Town. Indian players, including captain Virat Kohli, didn't shy away from venting out their frustration on the official broadcaster for the hosts after a controversial DRS call went South Africa's way on Day 3 of the Test match.

The incident happened during Day 3 when South Africa skipper Dean Elgar was trapped plumb lbw by R Ashwin. The on-field umpire raised his finger and deemed Elgar out. However, the SA captain went for a review and the DRS hawk-eyer showed the ball was going over the stumps despite the replays suggesting that the ball had hit him below his knee.

The hawk-eye tracker left Indian players baffled as Kohli and others were absolutely furious. Kohli was then seen walking towards the stump mic and taking a jibe at the host broadcaster SuperSport. “Focus on your team as well when they shine the ball eh, not just the opposition. Trying to catch people all the time,” Kohli was heard saying.

R Ashwin and KL Rahul also joined the bandwagon and alleged foul-play by taking a dig at SuperSport. “You have got to find better ways to win SuperSport,” Ashwin was caught saying on the stump-mic while Rahul said - “The whole country against us 11.”

SuperSport has now responded to the allegations and comments from the Indian players and said it has no control over the hawk-eye, which is an independent service provider and is approved by the International Cricket Council (ICC).&nbsp;

“SuperSport does not have any control over the Hawk-Eye technology,” the statement added.

South African broadcaster responds after Indian players allege foul-play in Dean Elgar DRS controversy

India lost the three-match Test series versus South Africa on Friday (January 14) at Newlands, Cape Town. Defending 212, India had claimed two wickets of the Dean Elgar-led side at stumps on Day 3 with the hosts well placed at 101-2 on Thursday.

Day 4 produced only one wicket for Virat Kohli-led India as Keegan Petersen (82), Rassie van der Dussen and Temba Bavuma completed the formalities for the hosts as they won the contest by seven wickets to clinch the series 2-1, despite conceding a 1-0 lead.

While India did fight hard during the course of the three Tests, in the African nation, the&nbsp;batters let the team down significantly. The likes of Cheteshwar Pujara, Ajinkya Rahane, Mayank Agarwal didn't do anything extra ordinary whereas Kohli's century-drought continues. KL Rahul produced two good knocks but failed to capitalise on his starts on many occasions.&nbsp;

Hence, India returned with scores of 327, 174, 202, 266, 223 and 198. Talking about Rahane and Pujara, in particular, the two have been out of form for quite sometime. Rahane's last triple-figure knock came in late 2020 whereas Pujara has gone over two years since his last hundred. In the SA series, Rahane amassed 136 runs at 22.66 whereas the No. 3 batter Pujara finished with&nbsp;124 runs at 20.66.

At the post-match press conference, Captain Kohli addressed India's batting woes and also opined on Pujara and Rahane. “Obviously, the batting has let us down in the last two games when we needed to step up. There is no running away from that. (On Pujara, Rahane) I cannot sit here and talk about what’s going to happen in the future. You’ll probably have to speak to the selectors about what they have in mind because this is not my job," he said.

Kohli added, "As I said before and I will say again, we will continue to back Cheteshwar and Ajinkya because of the kind of players they are, what they have done in Test cricket for India over the years, playing crucial knocks. In the second Test as well, you saw that important partnership in the second innings, which got us to a total that we could fight for. What the selectors have in mind, I cannot comment on that sitting here."

Virat Kohli opens up on Cheteshwar Pujara, Ajinkya Rahane's future after flop show in SA Test series

Indian Test captain Virat Kohli didn't hold back as he went after the South Africa players once after another in the recently-concluded third and final Test between the two sides at the Newlands Stadium in Cape Town. South Africa won the match by seven wickets after comfortably chasing down the target of 212 runs with seven wickets to spare in their second innings on Day 4 (Friday).

While it proved to be an easy win for the hosts&nbsp;in the end, the game saw some heated moments between the players from both sides. Both the teams gave their all to come out on top and the players were involved in some fiery exchanges throughout the course of the Test match.

After venting out his frustration on the stump mic after Dean Elgar survived a controversial DRS call on Day 3, Kohli went after South Africa batter Rassie van der Dussen on Day 4 of the Test match. Kohli gave it back to Van der Dussen over his heated exchange with Rishabh Pant during India's second innings on Day 3.

The incident happened in the 37th over of South Africa's second innings when Mohammed Shami thought he had induced an edge of Van der Dussen's bat. India went for a review only to find out that his bat had hit the ground which caused the noise as the batter was ruled not out. Though, there was a spike detected on the ultra edge when the ball passed the bat.

Kohli was thus once again left unhappy and had a chat with the on-field umpire before heading back towards the second slip. On his way, he had a small exchange with Van der Dussen and taunted him for going After 24-year-old Pant.

"Really? So you go after someone who is five years younger than you? Yeah? And then you are asking me if you sledge Rishabh?," Kohli can be heard telling the Proteas batter on the stump mic.

India lost the third and final Test versus Dean Elgar-led South Africa to lose the three-match series 2-1. On Friday (January 14), the Proteas resumed their 212-run chase with Keegan Petersen and Rassie van der Dussen in the middle. Petersen missed out on his maiden century (82) but did the job as the home side crushed past the No. 1 ranked Virat Kohli-led Indian team by 7 wickets.

With this, India missed a golden opportunity to win their first-ever Test series on South African soil. India have won a series in England, Australia (twice in a row) and in New Zealand, however, SA was their final frontier to conquer before conceding the series despite a 1-0 lead.

Talking about the third Test, Kohli-led India won the toss and managed only 223 in the first innings, thanks to Captain Kohli's gritty 79. In reply, Jasprit Bumrah's 5 for 42 restricted the Proteas for 210, enabling a vital 13-run lead for the visitors, before India only managed 198 in their second essay (courtesy Rishabh Pant's 100*). As a result, Elgar &amp; Co. marched past the visiting side to win the contest, and series, by 7 wiclets.

Updated ICC World Test Championship points table after South Africa clinch series vs India at home

South Africa defeated India by seven wickets in the series-deciding third Test of the three-match series on Friday (January 14) to clinch three-match series 2-1. Keegan Petersen turned out to be the hero for the hosts as he slammed a brilliant knock of 82 runs to help South Africa chase down the target of 212 runs in their second innings comfortably and win the Cape Town encounter.

It was a disappointing batting performance from the Indian team in the game as the visitors were bundled out for just 198 runs in their second innings after managing a lead of 13 runs. South African batters produced a gritty display with the bat to ensure they bounced back to claim the series 2-1 after losing the series-opener in Centurion by 113 runs.

After winning the first Test in Centurion, India were in a closing distance of scripting history by winning their maiden Test series in the Rainbow nation as they needed just one more win to secure the series. However, South Africa won the next two games in a row to ensure India's hunt for their maiden Test series win in the country was extended.

Kohli said South Africa deserved to win the series after the way they bounced back post their loss in the first game and pointed out how lapse of concentration in key moments cost India the series.

"I think it's a great spectacle of Test cricket for all to see. We played well in the first game to win but South Africa bounced back well in the second and carried on the momentum in the third as well. There was some lapse of concentration from us as well in key moments," Kohli said at the post-match presentation ceremony.

"I thought South Africa performed better in those key moments and totally deserved the win," the Indian skipper added.

Virat Kohli pins blame on India's batters

&nbsp;While Kohli credited the South African bowlers for bowling well throughout the three-match Test series, the Indian skipper admitted the Indian batters were far from being on top of their game.

While the likes of Ajinkya Rahane and Cheteshwar Pujara continued to disappoint, Kohli himself struggled to get going in the Test series. Barring his unbeaten century in the second innings of the third Test, Rishabh Pant also had an average outing in the series.

"The opposition bowlers bowled well this series but generally, we haven't been consistent. We have had too many batting collapses. Of course, it (batting) has been the reason, no doubt about that. Their bowlers were just better in terms of their execution and applying pressure. Batting is certainly something to be looked at. No excuses there," Kohli said as he explained the reason behind India's series loss.

"It's really disappointing for sure. We did well in Australia and England but that doesn't guarantee us success in South Africa," he added.

'No doubt about that': Virat Kohli explains reason behind India's 2-1 defeat in Test series vs South Africa

Keegan Petersen scored a superb 82 as South Africa completed a seven-wicket victory in the third test and a 2-1 series win over world number one India on a spiteful Newlands pitch having chased down their challenging target of 212 on Friday.

It is just the fourth time in 133 years that a team has scored more than 200 in Cape Town to win, and follows on from South Africa’s epic seven-wicket victory in Johannesburg in the second test when they needed 240 in the fourth innings.

Petersen, who was the leading scorer in the series with 276 runs, was the anchor for the home side on a difficult wicket for batting, but there were also important unbeaten contributions from Rassie van der Dussen (41) and Temba Bavuma (32) as they put on 57 for the fourth wicket.

The result means India are still in search of a first test series victory in South Africa having had high hopes when they won the opening match. The teams will now play three One-Day Internationals starting in Paarl on Wednesday.

Keegan Petersen shines as South Africa beat India by seven wickets in 3rd Test, seal series 2-1

India's Test captain Virat Kohli remains a livewire on the field when leading his side. He rarely shies away from getting into the nerves of the opposition and likes to give it back. Kohli was absolutely furious after a controversial DRS call went in South Africa's favour during Day 3 of the ongoing third Test between the two sides in Cape Town on Thursday.

Kohli lost his cool and directed a brutal dig towards the host broadcaster (SuperSport) after South Africa skipper Dean Elgar survived an LBW call. R Ashwin had trapped Elgar plumb and the ball hit him below his knee, however, the DRS&nbsp;hawk-eye predicted the ball to be going over the stumps.

Kohli along with the likes of Ashwin and KL Rahul aimed jibes at the host broadcaster after the decision saw Elgar survive. Many have criticised Kohli and the other Indian players for going overboard with their reaction, including former India opener Gautam Gambhir. Gambhir slammed Kohli for setting the wrong example with his behaviour.

Calling the Indian skipper 'immature', Gambhir said with such actions, Kohli can never become an idol for youngsters across the nation. “Kohli is very immature. It's worst for an Indian captain to say like this in stumps. By doing this you will never be an idol to youngsters," Gambhir said on Star Sports.

“In the first innings, you got a 50-50 call on caught behind then you were silent and in Mayank appeal too. I think Dravid will talk to him on this topic,” he added.

Kohli was visibly upset after Elgar's dismissal was overturned by the DRS before he walked up to the stumps to vent out his frustration. "Focus on your team while they shine the ball. Not just the opposition. Trying to catch people all the time,” he was heard saying on the stump-mic taking a dig at the official&nbsp;broadcaster.

Elgar had been initially ruled out by the on-field umpire but he decided to review the LBW call and managed to survive, thanks to the hawk-eye. Elgar was dismissed by Jasprit Bumrah later in the day after scoring 30 runs off 96 balls to take South Africa in a comfortable position in the game.

In pursuit of the target of 212 runs, South Africa were 101/2 at stumps on Day 3 and need just 111 runs to win the game with two days to play. A win will see South Africa clinch the three-match Test series 2-1.

Virat Kohli is very immature: Gautam Gambhir slams Indian skipper after stump-mic outburst in 3rd Test

Indian captain Virat Kohli was absolutely livid as he raged into the stump mic following a controversial DRS decision which saw South Africa skipper Dean Elgar survive during Day 3 of the ongoing third Test between the two sides in Cape Town. The incident happened during South Africa's second innings after the visitors were asked to chase the target of 212 runs.

During the 21st over, South Africa skipper Dean Elgar was given out LBW by the on-field umpire after being trapped plumb in front by spinner R Ashwin. However, Elgar decided to review the decision and opted for the DRS. While the replays showed the ball had hit Elgar below the knee, the hawk-eye showed that the ball was going over the stumps.

Much to Indian players' surprise and agony, the on-field umpire's decision was overruled as Elgar was given not out by the third umpire on the basis of the hawk eye's prediction. Kohli was certainly not happy with the decision and was spotted venting out his frustration on the stump mic.
