Exclusive! Nothing bigger than emotion, feeling and noise: John Buchanan on Indo-Pak cricketing rivalry

Team India fans have been patiently waiting to see Hardik Pandya bowl once again. The all-rounder had undergone a back surgery in late 2019, which ruled him out of action from international cricket for a long time. He returned to competitive cricket in IPL 2020. While he did well with the bat, the 27-year-old didn't bowl a single over in last year's IPL.

On the other hand, Hardik just bowled a handful of overs when Virat Kohli was searching for an extra bowler during the second and penultimate ODI versus Australia, during India's tour of Australia in late 2020. Since then, he hasn't returned to bowling at regular intervals. While he did contribute with the ball in the India-England T20Is, at home, early this year and in the Sri Lanka tour in July, Hardik is playing majorly as a specialist batsman in limited-overs whereas he has gone down the pecking order in Tests after not being available as an all-rounder. In addition, he didn't bowl a single over even in IPL 2021.

As far as the stats are concerned, India have beaten Pakistan in all of their 12 matches at the T20 and 50-over formats.
Commenting on the match, Indian skipper Kohli, during the pre-match presser, said that they will need to be at their very best to overcome Babar Azam's side. The neighbouring countries now square off only in the multi-nation ICC tournaments as the bilateral series between the two has been suspended due to political reasons. They last met in the 2019 ODI World Cup and India last hosted Pakistan in a bilateral series in 2013. Commenting on the match, Indian skipper Kohli, during the pre-match presser, said that they will need to be at their very best to overcome Babar Azam's side. We definitely have to bring our A game tomorrow." Like Kohli, Babar too refused to dwell on the past in his first global tournament as Pakistan skipper. "We are not focused on what happened in the past, but looking forward to what lies ahead. It's important to start well, and make an early impact. We are excited to be here," he said. ×

T20 World Cup: 'Insane' that over 1 billion people will watch India-Pakistan match, says Shane Warne

Bollywood actor Ranveer Singh has fired up Indian captain Virat Kohli ahead of the team's clash against Pakistan in the T20 World Cup 2021 on Sunday (October 24). 'It's ours this time': Ranveer Singh reacts to Virat Kohli's post ahead of blockbuster Pakistan clash

Virat Kohli-led India are all set to open their T20 World Cup 2021 campaign against arch-rivals Pakistan at the Dubai International Stadium in Dubai on Sunday (October 24). While Pakistan have already announced their 12-man squad for the much-awaited clash, India have kept the cards close to their chest and are yet to give a hit about their playing XI.

Ahead of the clash against Pakistan, former India opener Virender Sehwag gave his take on the combination India should opt for in their playing XI against Babar Azam's men. There has been a debate surrounding all-rounder Hardik Pandya's place in the XI with doubts over his bowling.

Hardik did not bowl a single over for Mumbai Indians in the second leg of the recently-concluded IPL 2021 and is unlikely to bowl for India against Pakistan due to his back issues. With Shardul Thakur in the squad, many believe India should play Shardul instead of Hardik in the XI to have much-needed balance in the line-up.

However, Sehwag had backed Hardik to play as a pure batter and feels he can make the game one-sided for India if he manages to click with the willow. Sehwag said Hardik would be the first player he would pick in his playing XI for India against Pakistan.

"He'll be on my team. The kind of batter he is, if he clicks, he'll make the match one-sided, and finish it. He has the ability, which he has shown many times. Yes, if he was bowling fit, that would have been the icing on the cake...", Sehwag said on Cricbuzz.

"You should go with five bowlers plus if Hardik Pandya or someone else from the top-order bowls a few overs, it'll be the perfect team for me... His batting is surely a concern. If he's not in form or not batting well in the nets, then you can maybe see another batter, otherwise, he'll be my first pick," he added.

'He will be my first pick': Virender Sehwag names Indian star who can be game-changer against Pakistan

India and Pakistan are set to lock horns with each other in match 4 of the Super 12 round in the T20 World Cup 2021, at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium, Dubai. The hype is on another level for the marquee encounter as both sides are meeting each other for the first time in over two years.

India and Pakistan had last played each other during the 2019 ODI World Cup, where Virat Kohli & Co. thrashed Sarfaraz Ahmed-led Pakistan by 89 runs (DLS method). On the other hand, this will also be the first T20I between both sides following their face-off in the previous edition of the T20 WC. Back then, India had defeated Pakistan by 6 wickets, in 2016, at Eden Gardens, Kolkata.

For the unversed, India have a 7-0 lead in the ODI World Cup versus the Men in Green. On the other hand, they lead Pakistan 5-0 in T20 WC history. Prior to the clash, former Pakistan wicketkeeper-captain Rashid Latif feels India have problems of plenty with several power-hitters and bowling options to choose from. Hence, Kohli might err in team selection, giving Pakistan a chance to break their unbeaten streak.

Former Pakistan captain Younis Khan, who guided the side to the ICC T20 World Cup title in 2009, feels that while Virat Kohli and Babar Azam are two "very bankable batsmen" for their respective sides, Rohit Sharma and Mohammad Rizwan could well decide who wins the T20 World Cup`s `Super 12` clash between the arch-rivals here on Sunday.

Indian skipper Virat Kohli, who previously downplayed the hype around the mouth-watering India vs Pakistan clash, reiterated that his side's impeccable tournament record against Pakistan will count for nothing when both the teams will face off at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium, Dubai on Sunday (October 24).

The Indian skipper said that they will need to be at their very best to overcome Babar Azam's side. As far as the stats are concerned, India have a 12-0 record against Pakistan in Twenty20 and 50-overs World Cups and they will hope to extend that streak in their tournament opener against their arch-rivals.

'We understand the value he brings': Virat Kohli has his say on Hardik Pandya's availability during T20 WC

MS Dhoni-led India had defeated Pakistan by five runs in a thrilling final to lift the T20 World Cup trophy during the inaugural edition of the tournament in 2007. It was a thrilling final played between the two arch-rivals which went down the wire with the result getting decided in the final over of the game.

Joginder Sharma was handed over the ball to bowl the final over for India in a tense situation with Misbah-ul-Haq going strong on one end. Misbah was nearing his half-century and was looking set to take Pakistan over the line before he was dismissed by Joginder in the final over. With six runs needed off the final four balls of the 20th over, Misbah tried scooping a delivery and was caught by S Sreesanth.

Recalling the thrilling finish to the epic final of the 2007 T20 World Cup, India's current limited-overs vice-captain Rohit Sharma, who was part of the game, said Yuvraj Singh almost thought that Sreesanth would drop the decisive catch. Rohit revealed he was fielding at cover during the final over and saw Yuvraj turn around as Misbah played the shot.

“I was standing at covers that particular ball. Yuvi ( Yuvraj Singh )was at point. The moment Misbah played that shot, I saw Yuvi turning around. He was not watching because he thought he was going to drop it,” Rohit said in a video shared by ICC.

In Dubai, the stage is set at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium for one of the most awaited clashes of the ICC Men's T20 World Cup, that is India vs Pakistan. The South Asian neighbours will square off on Sunday (October 24) to add a new chapter to the historic and epic rivalry.

In the cricket world, the Indo-Pak clash is trending everywhere. From England to India, the cricket pundits are having their say on the high-octane clash. As the former Australian opener Matthew Hayden admitted that "nothing matches" the hostile rivalry. On the other hand, former India batter Mohammad Kaif gave his valuable insight on the same, as he talked about the expected result and also weighed in on which team will be under more pressure.

If we talk about the stats, they are favouring India as Men in Blue have beaten Pakistan in all of their 12 matches at the T20 and 50-over World Cups. However, the matches between the two are lesser due to the cancellation of bilateral series due to political reasons. Now, they only meet in the multi-nation ICC tournaments. The two teams last met in the 2019 ODI World Cup in England and India last hosted Pakistan in a bilateral series in 2013.

Apart from the stats, one thing, in particular, has grabbed the attention which is the Virat Kohli vs Babar Azam debate. Talking about the same, Kaif, during an exclusive chat with Zee News English in a Facebook Live session, expressed his thoughts.

On being asked about the hype around Azam vs Kohli debate, Kaif said, "Look this Pakistan team is very good, Babar Azam is a very good batter and captain. They have got players who can perform good on their day but I would give my vote to India because the grounds and experience the Indian players have got because of the IPL. They’ve been there (UAE) for quite a long time now so they know the conditions in Dubai better compared to the Pakistan team. IPL is also a very high-pressure tournament so that also counts for India."

"India vs Pakistan match has that pressure on it on paper, so skills come later after the pressure handling and I think India can handle that pressure well. Look the records are records and they signal that India are the winner as they always defeat Pakistan in the World Cup.
Pakistan's form can't be ignored as they come into the Super 12s contest with 10 wins in a row in the United Arab Emirates. For the team, the skipper himself is in top form with two T20 centuries this year. The in-form Azam believes his team can break the World Cup jinx as commenting on the match, he said, "Definitely we have played a lot of cricket in the UAE. These conditions suit us and we know how to play here. We need to keep things simple in all the departments."

The Indian captain Kohli, on the other hand, has downplayed the hype as he said "it's just another game" of cricket. T20 World Cup: Mohammad Kaif weighs in on Virat Kohli vs Babar Azam debate ahead of Indo-Pak clash

Team India will lock horns with arch-rivals Pakistan in what promises to be a cracker of a game in the ongoing T20 World Cup 2021 on Sunday (October 24). The much-awaited clash between the two teams will be played at the Dubai International Stadium in Dubai, where Pakistan have a formidable record when it comes to the shortest format of the game.

A lot has been said about India's unbeaten streak against Pakistan in the cricket World Cup. The Men in Blue have a staggering advantage when it comes to the head to head record between the two teams in World Cups. India have never lost a game against Pakistan in an ODI or a T20 World Cup so far.

India have beaten Pakistan in all seven meetings in the ODI World Cup and have won all five matches between them in T20 World Cup so far. India enjoy a 12-0 record against Pakistan in World Cup history and will be aiming to keep the flawless streak intact when they take on Babar Azam & Co. in Dubai on Sunday (October 24).

However, India need to be wary of Babar Azam & Co. in Dubai, which can be considered Pakistan's second home when it comes to cricket. Pakistan are well familiar with the conditions in the UAE and had played a majority of their home matches in the country when international teams were not travelling to Pakistan.

Virat Kohli & Co. should not take the Men in Green lightly as Pakistan are heading into the clash on the back of a magnificent streak in Dubai. Pakistan have been unbeaten in their last six T20I matches in Dubai and will be looking to extend the record against India on Sunday.

Pakistan's unbeaten streak in Dubai:

While India have never lost against Pakistan in World Cup matches, Pakistan have not lost their last six T20I matches in Dubai. Their winning streak started with back-to-back wins against West Indies in September 2016 before Pakistan stunned Australia and New Zealand in two matches apiece at the Dubai International Stadium in 2018.

Pakistan's unbeaten streak in Dubai: While India have never lost against Pakistan in World Cup matches, Pakistan have not lost their last six T20I matches in Dubai. Their winning streak started with back-to-back wins against West Indies in September 2016 before Pakistan stunned Australia and New Zealand in two matches apiece at the Dubai International Stadium in 2018. T20 World Cup: Mohammad Kaif reveals which team will be under more pressure between India and Pakistan

India and Pakistan are all set to lock horns in what promises to be a blockbuster encounter in the ongoing T20 World Cup 2021. The much-awaited clash will be staged at the Dubai International Stadium in Dubai. Billions across the world will be glued to their TV screens when the two teams go up against each other.

India and Pakistan share one of the greatest rivalries in cricketing history and a clash between the two sides is always a high-octane affair with expectations and pressure at an all-time high from both sides. Ahead of their meeting, former Pakistan pacer Shoaib Akhtar opened up on the rivalry and said Indian cricketers are loved as much in Pakistan as they are in their own country.

Akhtar had a special mention for India's limited-overs vice-captain and star batsman Rohit Sharma, who he feels is liked more than Indian skipper Virat Kohli in Pakistan. The legendary fast bowler, who is an active pundit, said Rohit is known as India's Inzamam-ul-Haq in Pakistan.

“In Pakistan, people like and appreciate Indian cricketers. They praise Virat Kohli, they like Rohit Sharma even more. They call him India’s Inzamam,” Akhtar said on Zee News.

Former India cricketer Mohammad Kaif was also part of the discussion panel and picked India as favourites for their clash against Pakistan. While admitting that the result could go either way in a T20 game, Kaif said it will be a shocker for him if Pakistan manages to beat India in Dubai.

“Historically, India has always won these (World Cup) matches. But it depends on how the players perform on match day. The Indian side has an advantage that they just played the IPL in UAE and are accustomed to the conditions. Players are also in form. It would be a shocker if Pakistan wins. Of course, anything can happen in T20, but on paper, India appears to be a much stronger team,” said Kaif.

Akhtar agreed with Kaif's comments and said the result will depend on how players from both sides perform on the given day but he insisted that Pakistan can stun India if they play with courage and execute the right strategy in the high-pressure game.

“Big matches are not won by big players but by big courage. No doubt, India has better players, but with courage and right strategy things could turn out to be different than expected. Also, T20 is a tricky format. It’s going to be a 50-50 game. It will depend on how the players perform on the given day,” said Akhtar.

Ashish Nehra reveals how an India vs Pakistan World Cup match coined Sachin Tendulkar's nickname

Will Pakistan beat India? Or will, there be a similar result favouring India? Well, the time will tell but as of now, the hot gossip in the cricket community is the high-powered and much-anticipated T20 World Cup clash between India and Pakistan, scheduled to take place on Sunday (October 24).

Fans in both the cricket-crazy nations go berserk over the Indo-Pak matches and their frenzy spreads like a fever. Although, the neighbouring countries now square off only in the multi-nation ICC tournaments as the bilateral series between the two has been suspended due to political reasons. The two teams last met in the 2019 ODI World Cup in England and India last hosted Pakistan in a bilateral series in 2013.

The question here is, who will win on Sunday? Will Indian skipper Virat Kohli open the campaign on a winning note? Or will Pakistan captain Babar Azam end the losing streak? The stats are favouring India as Men in Blue have beaten Pakistan in all of their 12 matches at the T20 and 50-over World Cups.

However, the in-form Azam believes his team can break the World Cup jinx as commenting on the match, he said, "Definitely we have played a lot of cricket in the UAE. These conditions suit us and we know how to play here. We need to keep things simple in all the departments."

The Indian captain Kohli, on the other hand, has downplayed the hype as he said "it's just another game" of cricket. "I have always approached this game as just another game of cricket. The Indian captain Kohli, on the other hand, has downplayed the hype as he said "it's just another game" of cricket. "I have always approached this game as just another game of cricket. I know there is a lot of hype created around this game more so with ticket sales and the demands for tickets. The environment, you can say, is different.
