<p>"I was trying my best to do what I could and sometimes I can make a mistake and get out. Still, I'm learning. If I do make a mistake, I'll make sure that I try to learn from it," the batter said after the end of play on day 2.</p>

<p>Jaiswal was caught and bowled by England all-rounder Joe Root while trying to chip over short mid-off fielder. The batter, however, acknowledged that it would have been amazing to score a hundred.</p>

<p>"Of course, it would have been amazing if I would have scored a hundred. But what took me there was my thinking and my process to score runs and I was quite positive in my mind and I was just thinking, making sure I can build an innings. But it was good actually," he said.</p>

<p>The southpaw, who made his debut in whites last year in West Indies, is playing his first Test in India. He agreed that the environment is quite different from the three Tests he played in West Indies and South Africa.</p>

<p>"This is my first Test match in India and I was just thinking of contributing well and doing well for my team. When I was playing in the West Indies and South Africa, it was quite a different environment. Here also the environment is quite different. I was really enjoying all the places, of course. It is a proud and honour moment every time I go and play for my country," noted Jaiswal.</p>

<p>India finished the second day of play at 421/7, with a lead&nbsp;of 175 runs. Ravindra Jadeja (82) and Axar Patel (35) were still on the crease.</p>

<p>Having asked for time out from the national side during the Test series against South Africa in December, the BCCI opted to rest the wicketkeeper-batter and drafted KS Bharat into the squad. It was reported that he had asked BCCI for a leave on the grounds of mental fatigue. However, he was later found partying in Dubai. The BCCI officials were not happy with Ishan’s approach and dropped him from the home T20I series against Afghanistan and was also not included in the Test squad for the opening two matches in Hyderabad and Visakhapatnam.</p>

<p>Head coach Rahul Dravid asserted that Ishan wanted time out from the squad so was not made available for selection. However, lack of discipline has been touted to be the reason behind his exclusion from the squad.</p>

<p>It is worth noting that the left-hand batter has not made himself available for selection for the ongoing Ranji Trophy season with Jharkhand. So as things stand, Ishan if elected, will likely feature in the third Test against England in Rajkot.</p>

India’s stand-in ODI captain KL Rahul will look to cement his place back into the Test team as India take on South Africa in a three-match series starting on Sunday (Dec 17). While the focus is on the ODI series, Rahul narrates that keeping wickets in the Test format could help him keep his place in the side. India have a busy next few weeks in the Test format as they take South Africa before hosting England in a five-match test series. Rahul to keep wickets in Tests? "I don't know about all formats, right now my focus is on this ODI series. Yes, I'll be doing the same role. I'll be wicketkeeping and batting in the middle order. After that, yes, I would be happy to take up that role even in the Test matches,” Rahul said in the pre-match press conference on Saturday. "I've always been open to doing new roles and accepting whatever role the team wants me to perform," Rahul said. "So I'm happy to do whatever the management, coach and captain ask of me. If that's the role the team sees me in, I'm happy to do that,” he added. With KS Bharat not in plans and Rishabh Pant still not fit, Rahul’s chances of cementing a place in the Test squad have increased manifold. Like the ODI World Cup, Rahul will face competition from Ishan Kishan for the wicketkeeper-batter spot in the side but will be ready to go toe-to-toe for a spot in the Playing XI. For now, Rahul’s focus will be on Team India’s ODI series against South Africa where he has confirmed his batting position. Despite rumours of a return to the opening slot, Rahul has confirmed that he will be batting in the middle order during the South Africa series. The New Wanderers Stadium in Johannesburg will host the first ODI starting at 8:30 PM IST.
